In response to post #35004165. #35010930 is also a reply to the same post. Even if they don't, it'll quickly be modded in. So nothing to really worry about :)

The title says it all. I'm trying to decide which overhaul mod I want to use, but I've never used either of them, so I don't know which is better. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Ok, so I've gotten the game running from all the errors it was having before, now I need a little help. Since I've installed the game to a folder other than Program Files, the launcher no longer recognizes that it's installed. Is there any way to fix this so I can get BOSS working so I can get on with my gaming?

That's what I thought too...considering how long they've had Alchemists in the TES Universe and how much Real Life Alchemists helped to spread the use of Gunpowder across the world...it isn't unreasonable to think somebody, somewhere in Tamriel invented Gunpowder.

I've been playing around with some of the Flintlock pistols that have sprouted up on the Nexus...they're alright I suppose, but I still think something's missing.

they've said it'll come out shortly after the 1.4 patch which is supposed to come out this week. We can only hope.

Never been at that point personally...my last character was pretty much a Tank with a Lightsaber so I just waded into the fray and layeth the smacketh down on their candy asses. My newest character just plinks with arrows from the shadows until nobody's left standing. Maybe if she's feeling bold she'll go up and personally stab the last guy in the throat.

Whichever side I choose I just murder any Thalmor I find anyway...doesn't much matter to me. Just set me loose in the Thalmor's home country and I'll have them all dead within a couple weeks. Entire towns dead in a night.

I've abandoned too many to count...deleted almost all of them. The one that lasted the longest was my Tank character: Heavy Armor, Shield, Sword (Lightsaber mod :P), small amount of Archery, and I had just started expanding into Sneak before I finished the main quest and lost interest. My latest is a Dunmer Thief/Assassin...mainly uses Bows atm, but I plan to expand into Daggers and Illusion magic. I think I want to advance the main storyline to just past the Dragon attack in Whiterun, but before I go to see the Greybeards just so I can kill Dragons and shout. Hopefully I'll get around to finishing the TG and probably join the DB at some point. I never did get around to choosing a side in the war either, but I'll probably go Stormcloak since the Imperials are just dicks.

It's like nobody that comes up with this stuff has ever seen V for Vendetta. People will only take being walked all over for so long before something sets them off and revolution happens. Right now, the internet keeps a lot of people from caring about what's actually happening in the world...take that away and suddenly you've got a LOT more people wanting to change things. If the government ever actually does start to censor the internet and it becomes widespread, there are going to be riots. Not just peaceful protests, there will be full-blown riots in DC. And as large as our military is, they can't keep every single person under control at all times. There are some people who have a LOT of free time to think up, and plan out, ways to bring down the government. All it takes is the right spark to set it off.

I'm on my 2nd play-through now with a character that just doesn't give a ****. I have the quest from Farangar to go get the Dragon Stone, but I'm holding off on it cause I just don't care all that much. Even with how high I got my last character (57), I've still never owned a house in another city, never finished Thieve's Guild or Dark Brotherhood, haven't picked a side in the Stormclock vs Imperial fight....none of that stuff. So now I'm just gonna go through and ignore the main quest in favor of playing through everything else. My character doesn't need Shouts or Dragon Souls to be awesome...though they are pretty neat. Especially with Tytanis mod that lets me craft more stuff out of Dragon Bones and Scales. Crap, I might just advance the quest enough for High Hrothgar after I finish Thieve's Guild to start getting Dragon encounters.

Nevermind, I'm a freakin' derp. I'm supposed to add it if it doesn't exist :*(

I only really noticed it after I found I couldn't hit a target that should've been well within my range. Apparently there's a max range that you can use your Bow at and once the arrow passes that max range, it'll pass right through any NPCs it comes across, only hitting the ground and alerting them somebody's there. I've supposedly found a way around it on this page: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Archery By modifying the INI file, you can set how far away you can actually hit things with arrows...however, I can't seem to find the Skyrim.ini file with "fVisibleNavmeshMoveDist" anywhere on it. If anybody on these forums could help me out, it'd be much appreciated.

It's nice being able to choose your fights sometimes...plus at higher levels those Drauger are a PITA to fight face-to-face.
-
You're not walking around behind them, you can actually sneak attack them while they're meditating and they won't even turn around or fight back. It's an easy way to level up the Sneak skill to the point it becomes useful.
-
Do you go about killing Dragons the same way...just pelt it with arrows until it's dead?
-
How do you guys/girls go about making your character sneaky? Do you start out sneaky in the tutorial area and just continue or do you start out sword & board and then move into sneaky later? I already know about the Greybeard trick to leveling Sneak, but I was wondering if my fellow Dovahkiin had other ways to go about it. Also, which do you prefer: Bows or Daggers? How best to level up Light Armor so it's not such a let down compared to Heavy Armor?

it's a beautiful piece of rusty-looking AWESOMENESS! Question: Are the shells going to be like arrows for a bow in that you need them to make the gun function? If so, are there going to be different types of shells to show which one fires which shell?

You are my new hero. This looks incredible. I can hardly wait to see how it turns out with animations and such.
-
Dude, I start cackling like a maniac when I saw that model. You are freaking amazing bro :)
-
That looks freaking awesome already. Since we want it to look Dwemer-esque you could likely remove some things from it like the 2 pointed parts on top of the gun that look like sights, as well as the piston like part in front of the trigger. You'll probably want to color it Bronze when you get to that stage so it looks like the rest of the Dwemer inventions. The bar that goes across the back of the loading chamber, you'll want to shorten the side bars so it looks like it's holding the firing chamber closed like it's supposed to. Other than that, it's freaking fantastic already. Can't wait to see how far you take it bro :) Just so we're clear, it doesn't have to look EXACTLY like the stuff I linked...that's just reference material. If you want to make the barrel just 1 straight tube, that's fine with me. The loading and firing process should probably stay similar, but the rest of the design is up to you my friend. You're the one making it, not me.

Found a couple good videos, 1 with the texture and model and 1 with just the model...both show how the gun is loaded, the first shows approximately what it looks like while firing, but that's open to any changes the mod maker feels like Model and Texture: just the Model: And here's some good hi-res pics of the model: http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs42/f/2009/145/e/c/Outlaw_Star__s_Caster_Gun_by_Syklon.jpg I really hope this helps you :)

Bump to get it seen and hopefully picked up :)

Well, since Bethesda has already given us one handed Staves that fire charged spells, where you hold down the right/left trigger to charge and then release to cast, then it seemed like a plausible idea that you could simply change the model to make it any kind of weapon that you wanted. Granted, since it can only cast spells and not use melee attacks, a ranged weapon would be better. With all the Dwemer ruins in Skyrim and the fact that the Dwemer were known to blend Magic with Technology...it only seemed right that they would manage to make an item that allowed a Non-Mage to use even a limited amount of magic. Once the creation kit comes out, I'd love to see maybe the idea that you have to go on an epic quest just to put the gun together since you'd find only pieces of the gun in random Dwemer ruins. Possibly collect the ammo while you're delving into the Dwemer ruins and maybe find a small handful in a vendors inventory on rare occasions. If we really wanted to make it like the Outlaw Star gun, then there would be different types of Shells with different spells in each type. The gun itself is generally considered and extremely RARE antique and the ammo is difficult to come by. Make it take just as long to load as it normally does to bring up a bow, knock an arrow, and draw it back. Then, after all that, have it act like a staff in regards to charging the spell before firing. Each shot would have to do a good amount of damage, maybe 2-3x the normal damage of a staff/spell of the appropriate level, to make it worth it to use the gun over an equivalent spell/staff. More of the quest can be fleshed out after somebody actually makes a working mod that get the gun into the game.
