  1. I have a legal copy. Bringing in law is kind of senseless in this argument anyhow. 1) In the country this message is being posted from, a person could admit to using pirated software and face no criminal consequences whatsoever. Similarly if you are posting from North America or most of Europe, you cannot face any criminal penalty for simply giving someone a link to an application that removes or alters a piece of code from a game (in this case the code altering a mechanism that scans my drive for a disk). 2) More importantly, bringing in the law runs counter to the basis of the forum itself which is to modify the original structure of the game. Even in the zaniest court case in history, they (Bethesda) would have a hard time justifying this: They allow you modify and redistribute modifications to EVERY little aspect of the game on a site that is ad-supported (and thus for REVENUE) and suddenly put their foot down because you haven't stipulated a rule barring random people on the forum from discussing modification to a security feature. The owner of this site cannot be held accountable in court for someone on a public forum on his site discussing something against the game ToS. But they clearly stipulate you cannot modify any part of the game and re-distribute that or any other part of the game for profit (not even a sound file) yet here TESNexus is profiting off hundreds of people modifying the game and re-distributing it to tens of thousands. No one working for this site is exactly in a position to call anyone else a thief or claim what they are doing is illegal. I'm not ignorant to the scenario here either, it's likely similar to that of other sites: Bethesda technically doesn't mind most of these modifications since it attracts dedicated fans and doesn't cause a loss in profit. Thus the owners of the site do what they can keep Bethesda happy so they can keep generating ad-revenue off the millions of unique downloads where you have to wait 40 seconds for an ad. Then they turn around and act like hypocrites so they aren't in a position where Bethesda gets angry and takes away some potential for this ad-revenue. That, and there might be a chance they get some "hardcore site goodies" as I like to call it. Come in to the studio for beta testing, early releases, consulting with the devs, that kind of stuff. Since TESNexus can't be held accountable if a random person enters there public forum, messages another and tells them how to solve an issue that may or may not be a violation of the game ToS, they have no reason to specifically ask there moderators to enforce it. That is unless they have something else to lose from it ($$$, the goodies, etc). Thus it is clear we are dealing with a morality issue here, as well as a technological issue (lack of a system in place for users to receive discounted PC game if switching platforms). There's no use hiding behind the law when it's flawed and counter to morality and in many senses reality.
  2. Yes, you should pay the full asking price (I believe the 5 year anniversary edition with all of the DLC is $40). You should also learn to never ever buy another Bethesda game for a console as they're horribly notorious for their lack of debugging. They release an Alpha as their final product, put out 2 or 3 patches that get it up to around Beta quality and then quit supporting their games. They've been doing this since Morrowind. If they do all this, how would a person in this scenario not be justified in "pirating" the PC version? It is immoral to pirate software. It is immoral to release incomplete, alpha versions your product for the same price as the full, working version. Two wrong don't make a right? or Revenge is a dish best served cold? More specifically: One could easily pose the argument that you are actually purchasing the same thing twice. Porting a product costs a fraction of the actual development of the core game. It barely constitutes a new product, let alone at full price. Why does a person need to pay full price for the few percent difference in code? Why don't they allow a person to purchase this extra code for a discounted rate? DATA and OWNERSHIP as well as COPYRIGHTS are a very complicated issue.
  3. Thank you for the help! Problem solved. I did not say I pirated the game. None the less I will present a completely random scenario to you. A person purchases a game for, say, PS3. They realize the game is infinitely unplayable on this console and decide they prefer to play on PC. PC, where people, including yourself I would assume, have more or less admitted to the game's faults by using modifications that correct THOUSANDS of pieces of code within the game. Should this person have to pay full price for access to data that is 99% similar to what they have already purchased? Are they offering a discounted rate for people switching platforms?
  4. Hello, I am getting some pretty low frames in Oblivion (15fps). I am running an i7-2600k OC'd to 4.45ghz with an NVIDIA GTX 580 and 8GB DDR3-1600 RAM. I have the following mods installed: - Natural Environments - Qarl's Texture Pack III - Open Cities - RAEVWD - OBGE - Water mod - FastExit - Oblivion ENB series I am using these settings in my video card panel: - 16x Anisotropic filtering - 16xQ CSAA anti-aliasing, - Ambient Occlusion ON, - 8x Supersampling, - V-Sync, Triple Buffering, - Threaded Optimization to Auto With the ENB series turned off it functions okay. However once it's turned on all goes to s***. Is this normal? I thought this card could handle anything you throw at it in terms of Oblivion. I do realize the settings/mods could be a bit overkill though. Are there changes to Oblivion.ini I should make for a system like this? (So the game can take advantage of it) Thanks!
  5. Hello, I launched Oblivion today and it suddenly started asking me for the disc. This is after I used OMM to properly install Qatars Texture Pack III. What can I do to get rid of this diagnostic? Thanks!
  6. Hi, I am using TES4LODGen as described in the mod that allows you to see almost everything from a distance (RAEVWD). Do I use TES4LODGen before or after launching Oblivion? Thanks!
  7. Hey guys I accidentally killed a merchant some time ago without realizing it was one. What exactly happens now? I'm fairly new to the game still so I've never experienced this. The store is empty and has been for WEEKS! Is someone else gonna take over soon? This was not in a quest or anything like that.
  8. Hey guys, I like to have a database of good merchants, good trainers, rumors, places I've robbed, etc. in the game. I was wondering if there is a mod to take notes in the game. Preferably something that can be edited via a .txt or .ini file outside the game as well. That or a mod that tracks merchants/trainers and the last prices/percentages I got from em'. Thanks!
  9. Thanks guys. I've already modified my system to run the game ideally. That is adjusted the Oblivion.ini file to use my resources more effectively, overclocked my CPU from 2.0 to 2.4, disabled services/programs/internet connection, installed Streamline and Stutter Remover, and disabled things like Anti-aliasing and V-sync on my GFX card console. I was able to get an average of 5fps better than before. My system is an Intel T7300 Dual Core 2.0ghz, Nvidia 8600M GS 256mb, 3GB DDR2, running Win 7 64-bit. I was told I would barely be able to run the game at high settings, as in less than 10 fps. Yet here I am having all the settings maxed except resolution (displaying at 720p on a 1080p TV). I was so damn happy and surprised... And it really does work fine in most parts, even most of the forest! It ends up averaging around 5 minutes per hour of game-time where the frames drop too low (below 15). I'd hate to have to disable some settings to fix such a short amount of gameplay time. Okay so with all this info is there any other solution, without having to sacrifice quality in parts where performance is currently fine ...I do have another question. Do I need to enable Streamline in my inventory (pick the settings) every time I launch the game? Or does it save and apply the last settings before the last time I quit? Thanks guys
  10. Hi guys, Is there a mod for quick visual setting switches? I can run the game with all settings maxed in town however I find I need to drop the draw distance on grass/trees (as well as turn off shadow filtering sometimes) when outdoors. Anyway to save a few presets and toggle between them in-game or in console?

  12. Hi all, I find my FPS is dropping rather low in certain forested areas. In towns I can sport 16-20 fps with multiple guards attacking me and townspeople watching/running. In a calm atmosphere I can sport 24-30 fps in town. Even without enemies in many forested areas I am stuck at 12-14 fps. During fights it can drop as low at 10fps. I don't have natural environments installed or anything like that. I have open cities classic and animated lighting windows however but I can get in the mid 20sFPS on my Akatosh mount flying over a town with ALW kicking in. Pretty confused why the rather "mod-less" forest would be killing the FPS like that. Canopy shadows are on, grass shadows are off, grass distance is middle, view distance is maxed, HDR lighting is on. All other settings are in the middle. 1280x720 Intel T7300 Dual Core 2.0ghz 3gb DDR2 ram Nvidia Gefore 6800 256mb 64 bit Windows 7 There is 2gb ram free pre-load EDIT: I also have 1 more question... I am running it at 720p on my TV that is displaying Windows at 1080p. Would it run smoother if I played windowed?
  13. I agree too however I am unfortunately used to games released around 2009-2011. If I had played in 2006 I'm sure I would have done as you guys said, I almost always do. None the less the specific spoiler I read was rather necessary however it was simply a mistake, both parties have moved on. I do think certain mods obviously need to include spoilers in the description and it should be mandatory to mark spoiler tags when making such explanations.
  14. Why are people allowed to upload mods to the site without the descriptions being checked for spoilers? Absolutely ridiculous. I switched over to PC in the hopes that the game would be better. Now I find myself informed of things that happen 80% through the main story. God damn I wish I just stayed on Xbox. Here is a good idea for Skyrim: Make a policy where people can't upload mods for everyone to use while telling you what happens halfway through the game FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER OTHER THAN THERE OWN MISPLACED LOGIC. Why when you say X type of NPC dies, do you feel the need to use an example that is so pertinent to the main quest? And how the hell does something get 5,000 downloads, 13 comments, and no one noticed this... back in June of 2006! My goodness.
  15. Okay so I have figured out how to edit the .ini files. All categories still appear as a "?" instead of what is assigned in the ini file. I can't add anything or change anything to the menu, despite that it comes up in the inventory screen..
  16. How do you use it? I have no idea how to assign any buttons as hotkeys. It's just all question marks. The script creator included the least helpful readme I have ever seen too. Although I do appreciate the mod and effort so ignore my whining. So, how do I use this mod exactly?
  17. Thanks a lot, just grabbed them as well as a few others from that section of the site. Didn't know that existed . :) All I need now is the mod to assign spells/attacks to any key and the script to put in the console to change it so you can become a real vampire more than once.
  18. Hey guys, I've played about 150 hours however it's been mainly just messing about. I'm basically 4-5 missions into the main quest and that's it after all this time :P. I'm now playing on PC (xbox before) and find myself a little overwhelmed with the hefty amounts of mods available. Queue reading a couple spoilers while trying to find "essential mods" and here I am making this thread. What are some recommended mods for someone just starting to really get into the game? I'm not exactly looking for weapon/armour mods or God-mode mods. I like having to build all that up. I'm also not looking for additional content either, that is more places, items, quests, races, clothing, etc. Although I will list a few exceptions in here I'm mainly looking for: - unofficial patches/bug fixes - ways to make the game perform better - mods that remove the tedious/annoying aspects of the game such as 1 - easier ways to sort through items/ingredients 2 - able to assign weapons/spells/items to as many keys as free on the keyboard 3 - able to become a vampire more than once 4 - etc - THAT DRAGON MOUNT MOD! - a mod that regenerates alembic, mortals/pestles, etc. in all mages guilds when they are taken. I know there isn't a mod per say like this so anything that would in affect do the trick is welcome. - If there is a mod that adds more voices to the game that would be cool too (if it's well done) - I noticed my High Elf is skinny as hell and looks like a fool in heavy armour. Is there a way I can beef this guy up? Thanks!
  19. Hey thanks for the link! My issue with Oblivion on console is that this game is not meant for a controller. The movement itself is clearly meant for WSAD/arrows; you move like an FPS rather than an open-world game like GTA. And of course it's nice to have 20+ keys to change weapons, spells, etc. rather than the 8 D-pad directions on a controller. I'm also really into mods that can do things like... list which of my ingredients that I have (hundreds) contain the "silence" effect. I can't imagine console mods would allow this, not a saved-game mod at least. Again though thanks for the vid, definitely worth looking into none the less.
  20. Thanks for the reply! I suspected it could be done in the console. Hate to sound noob (hard to sound something other than what I am :P) but is there a page that lists out all the commands that can be done in the console? EDIT: Just found the conversion video! Awesome, thanks for the heads up. NVM this thread now
  21. Hey guys, So I made the wretched mistake of playing this game on the 360. I really didn't know anything about the franchise and now that I'm 150 hours in, I find myself wishing I had just played on PC. Is there a mod that allows you to start the game from where I left off? via entering in all the information i've completed. (OR... if you guys have a mod that converts 360 saves into PC saves... that would be amazing) For instance: - the names of all the quests I've completed and how I completed them (ex. if I had to save 2 people, did I actually succesfully save them?) - all the rare weapons/apparel/stuff I have found (ex. calliben's retort blunt weapon) - factions ive joined and progress so far - non-respawning NPC's I have killed (outside of the ones in the completed quests) etc etc Thanks!!
