I'm making a very basic "true to Skyrim" follower mod using my girlfriend's Skyrim character as the basis (Since we both started at the same time), basically what I really need to know is what information is there on how Serana's AI work's as a follower, I've been going through the creation kit but have had no luck finding what causes Serana's AI to let her interact with the world while following you about. I know there are mods that do this but I'm not interested in stuff like that, I want to understand how Bethesda did this for Serana, and then copy that exact process for my own follower. I've done quite a bit of searching and found various topics about it but most people seem to have never figured it out themselves or just resorted to using other mods that accomplish the same thing with different methods. Any information or guidance on this would be much appreciated.

DDS texture format issue
FoxhoundCommander replied to FoxhoundCommander's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Ahhh I hadn't thought of that with PSD being an issue, I'll try some tricks and see how it goes, it could just be a case of needing to save it in a naturally lower sized format first so that the jump across formats doesn't cause DDS to flip out and ruin it, and yeah the difference isn't that noticible unless you're prone to looking for details, which when you are, has it's downsides when you get a bit OCD about things being correct. Also in my experience I've noticed that the random patches of discoloration and loss of quality tend to show through shaders like small damp patches in clothing. -
A mod that would be like an ingame creatable version of immersive armor. Make a new area in the smithing window where the parts of armor are seperated like so. Chest Piece: >Neck >Shoulder Left/Right >Torso >Waist And you can mix, match and attach parts like pouldrons and seperated parts in a list from various armors in the game (Like the Thieves Guild chest straps), but the Basic AR would come from the core base piece, not the attachments. effectively creating your own version of vanilla armor, all of the customization, none of the law/game breakage.

So lately I've been working on a reskin for an armor and I've come across an issue with the textures, it keeps losing quality regardless of how I save it, mind you it's not overly noticable but it's definitely there and it's a bit annoying. http://i.imgur.com/rQOtuIG.png Tested formats: DXT1 No Alpha DXT3 Explicit Alpha DXT5 Interpolated Alpha DXT5 Using DXT5 All of these have given me the above result, over and over and I'm starting to wonder if this is a Photoshop issue or if I haven't set something correctly, I have switched between Fastest Compression and Highest Compression in several of these and it didn't change the result, the only format so far that seems to not affect compression is 8.8.8.8 ARGB 32bpp Unsigned, which would be fine if it didn't cause the file to increase upto over 5mb from 1.3mb, and I'd rather not have to make people use 5mb textures for things that are really no higher quality than default. So what am I missing here, is this a known issue people just ignore or is there a better way of saving textures properly or what? I cannot stand the thought of textures losing quality or their files being way too big, if Bethesda can save DDS textures without quality loss, why can't we? I've searched and searched for information about the format in general with texture modding, but for whatever reason information is rather sketchy and unconfirmed at best, which is odd given the sheer number of mods, but anyway.

I have seen many mods that do different things to Skyrim's XP system. One I haven't been able to find however, is a mod that changes things in such a way, so leveling up requires an exact amount of skill increases, this is basically what Morrowind did, where you you would level up every time you gained a total of 10 skill increases. I have some experience in the creation kit but have been unsuccessful in figuring out exactly what it would require changing to get this result. Mind you, I don't wish to change the skills themselves in any way, just how many you need to increase to level up. I have figured out that if you max every skill this way, your level should be roughly 150, which while sounds very high, puts you on the same level as the greybeards, which in my mind makes a lot of sense as a cap. So if anyone knows how to pull this off or a mod that does this, that would be great.

Mods I use - Official Mods - Knights Of The Nine - Shivering Isles - Unofficial Oblivion Patch - Shivering Isles Unofficial Patch - Official Mods Unofficial Patch - Elaborate Eyes (great Mod, It adds about 30 billion eye colors too many though) - Level Slow X4 (All skills level 4x slower, makes the pace a lot more like morrowind) - Alyied Wells as Landmarks (Alyied wells show up on your map as Land Marks just like way shrines etc.) - Unlocate Cities (Takes all but the Imperial City "map markers" off of your map, great way to explore with a new character) - No Oblivion Gate Storm (stops that annoying oblivion weather appearing when getting close to a gate) That's basically all I use, I hate mods that add new weapons or armor because most people can't seem balance them, or they look unbelievably out of place in Oblivion, I don't use mods that add quests because of the fact Oblivion has voice acting for everything, no voices would be annoying, so would fan made voices (like the horrible Valen Dreth Custom Race fix) haha.

How rich is your character?
FoxhoundCommander replied to Carah's topic in Oblivion's Classic Discussion
In this current phase of Oblivion playing one of my characters had about 23k before level 5, my Main character right now has about 2k on him, I just spent 2,000 septims buying the waterfront shack, It's pretty easy to get money when you know where to look, usually looting vilverin ruins alone right at the beginning can net you 2000 gold, I've made 10,000+ gold from the caves around the Imperial City isle before on previous characters as well. -
YOU and YOUR Character
FoxhoundCommander replied to evilkoal's topic in Oblivion's Classic Discussion
I more or less play a male character, I am a male myself so yeah, I'm not big on playing female characters, although "Sometimes" I'll make a female ninja/assassin type for the hell of it, I usually end up never playing them again after awhile. -
I got it off a mate tonight. Played for a couple of hours and I have to say i was a tad let down. I was expecting a game play style closer to HL2. Instead it was surprising to find the running and shooting to be a bit sluggish. But i would say in about 4 days i'll find my self addicted.

I would say in my opinion Multiplayer would be to complicated for Oblivion. However i do have an idea for how i would see multiplayer introduced into it. We can fight in the arena right? What if they released an expansion where there was another arena where you could fight other players in game modes: 1 Vs 1 (Duel) 2 Vs 2(Team Duel) Player(s) Vs Creatures Free for all: up to 4 people at one time using each of the 4 entrances. and so on, you get the point.... you could have a section outside the arena it's self where players could talk, trade etc. and challenge each other to duels. Possiblility of betting: could win anything up to 20,000 Gold if your team wins etc. I think it would be cool. your playing, finish a quest etc and think.. "hmm i'm stronger now maybe i'll head to the PVP arena and try my luck. It's a small portion for MP but i think something along those lines would suit a game like oblivion well. And lets you actually duel your buddy etc.

I worked out where each race fits in our worlds culture of accents. Khajiits: Russian Nords: German (they fit the build to) Wood/high/dark elves: English (british or whatever) Imperials: American (females sound less american) Bretons: Very english/british Argonians: Slightly euro that's my take on their voices. i like the voices, except the awesome badass dark elves voices they removed "City of Light, City of Magic"

Hot Topic #1: The dumbing down of Oblivion
FoxhoundCommander replied to Dark0ne's topic in Oblivion's Classic Discussion
I got my hands on Morrowind before it was released in Australia. Back then i didn't know much about "RPG's" or anything like that. The game was amazing for it's time, i just enjoyed it that much for about 5 years. But when it came to oblivion. I loved it for awhile. And as people havesaid, just felt it lacked in alot of areas. some things i liked: Good graphics (duh) Alot of fun quests and guild story lines (Eg: the DB storyline) The voice acting was a cool thing to see. But. I was dissapointed at the dark elves of all races. In morrowind they were gruff and nasty, badass elves. Oblivion set them down to the standards of Wood elves and High elves. Even though i am pleased that wood elves are *slightly* less annoying. It was just not fun. Orcs also really pissed me off with their voices. I think voice acting needed more thought put into it. and used ONLY in The main storyline. Because then they wouldn't have wasted so much time with it. The Dark Brotherhood was an awesome guild to play through. Had an excellent story and was actually "Thrilling" at times. However the Mages guild and fighters guilds just got left out in the cold. Thieves was slightly better but was annoying at times. I won't name the other more obvious issues with oblivion. But my gripe with the story was that it was ok but. It was far to short. by the time finished Oblivions story i would be up to getting named by the ashlands or hortator of the great houses in Morrowind. Dungeons wern't to bad but the lack of the thrill of finding uniques and other treasures was bit hard at times. Archutecture annoyed me. It looked fine but Tribunal's idea of the buildings etc lead you to believe all of the imperial city and towns looked exotic and fantasy like. Instead i found my self standing in england style houses Etc. The fast travel map was good but defeated the purpose of horses. It would have worked better if you could "Target" places you have found on the map and ride there etc. And mage teleportation from town to town would have been really good for town to town traveling. that's my say on the topic.
