i can see it fine in geck when i load it, just not in game

So all i was gonna do was put a some ammo in a trash can and put it somewhere in the world ( i created my own container). I did this, saved the esp file, checked it in the launcher and loaded the game, but, it was not there... I dont know what im doing wrong, i just got new vegas but used to mod morrowind and oblivion all the time. I have googled this and havent found an answer that has worked for me! Please help, thanks!
