  1. I've recently (in anticipation for Skyrim) been playing a heavily modded Morrowind. It's awesome :) . One mod caught my eye however; first person enhanced. It replaces first person animations with third person animations; you can look down and see your body, the screen bobs when you walk, your character will put up his arm and block part of the screen when you walk into a blizzard or ash storm, your arms will swing when you walk, etc. It's very immersive. I'm not sure I could ever love a game without something like that anymore actually.

I know from the Skyrim previews that it has better 1st person animations than Oblivion, but they're still somewhat bland compared to that Morrowind mod. Anyone have any idea how hard this would be to pull off in Skyrim, based on how it was done in Oblivion and Morrowind?

  2. Yeah, I was worried about just taking them out of the game entirely. Just in case there would be, like, a big badass spider at the end of a dungeon, but when she gets there there's nothing. Thanks a lot for all the advice, guys! :) I just gotta figure this thing out, and we should be good to go. Any idea how long it'll be for the modding tools to be released?

just leave the spiders ingame... a person needs to face thier fears. otherwise they will never grow. thats my opinion anyhow.

of course, all these years later, im only marginally less afraid of heights, despite that Im always climbing something.

No. Psychology has proven that most phobias can't be cured with exposure. It just makes people panic and cry.

Regular fears can be cured this way, but not true phobias. Try shutting a claustrophobic person in a tiny box and see what happens. (hint; they won't get over their fear)

  3. If you don't like the npc appearances, you could try hgec female bodies, plus Robert's male bodies. I believe there's an underwear version as well, if you're squeamish. Also, I would recommend 'Natural Faces'. They get rid of some JPEG artifacts, and make them look much less like potatoes covered in cellophane. The Real Swords collection is awesome as well. It's a fairly long download, and some weapons in it are a bit overpowered, but it adds literally hundreds of new, unique, awesome swords (plus a few maces, bows, and arrows) to the levelled lists. It has to be the best weapon mod series in all of Oblivion.

Also, you can try 'Very Textured Normal Maps For Vanilla'. It uses the game's vanilla textures, but adds bumpmapping to them and makes the game environments look twice as good. I prefer it over Qarl's Texture Pack, actually, and it doesn't hurt performance much.

What else... well, if you have performance to spare you could install lighted windows. It looks much, much better at night, but it hits your frames per second like a battleaxe. It adds many new dynamic lights, so you can't expect it to be easy to run.

I also recommend 'low poly grass'. I don't even notice the graphical difference most of the time, but it's a big help to the framerate.

  4. The PS3 will probably have a bit more texture pop because of the pathetic VRAM, but the 360 will most likely have a worse framerate because of it's clock speed. To be completely honest, I'd favor the PS3 version; the pc system requirements recommend four cores, and the PS3 has more cores than the 360, so it'll probably run much better, even if a few textures get a little stretched.

Of course, a decent, optimized PC will destroy either console at this point. That's not even counting the mods. That's why I bought a PC. :whistling:

  5. I got (and modified) a similar mod for Oblivion. It was epic. I assume it will be twice as epic in Skyrim. It would be easier to just increase weapon damage a lot rather than lowering health, I think.

Traps should be an insta-kill no matter what level you are.

Swords should deal massive damage (one hit per mage, two or three for heavy humanoids roughly)

Arrow damage seems better in Skyrim, but it should also be bumped to correspond to the melee damage increase.

    Blocks should null all damage.

Trolls should be almost invulnerable (bump up their health massively to make up for higher weapon damage), but they should die very easily (or even run away) if you use fire on them (fire weakness +50ish, possibly?).

Hostile animal health should be increased. There's no way some dude with a knife is going solo against a bear in real life, lol.

Only magic or silver against ghosts, unless that's already included. Possibly more later.

  6. Try turning down the brightness, and if that makes it look too dim, turn up the contrast slightly (very slightly). I get headaches (or used to, rather) from looking at my monitor for too long, and it was always a little too harsh to be comfortable. Last week I turned down the brightness substantially, bumped the contrast a little, and now the headaches are a distant, quickly fading memory.
  7. When you kill an npc shopkeeper, how do the courts of Skyrim decide which family member inherits the business? What are Skyrim's laws on transfer of ownership of property? Is there some kind of Probate Court? And what about child custody laws?
  8. I think I'll recommend him the GTX 560 Ti, but I'll be sure to tell him about all the more efficient options. Great article about SLI stuttering, btw. That might save me a huge headache when I'm wondering whether to SLI my GTX 460.
