I'm fairly certain it does...

idk... maybe you can go for a killstreak; how many family members can you bump off before the children start to cry?
-
My heartfelt thanks for the suggestions so far. The more the merrier! (which, FYI, is what I'm going to yell gleefully as I see how many bodies I can stick in a closet in Skyrim)

Egil Saga by Faun. Well... maybe I wouldn't use it for battle music, but it's great for an intense explore track at least.

So, I have a gtx 460. That's not the issue.
My brother wants a pc capable of maxing some games, including Skyrim. What's the best budget card you can think of? He's leaning towards the GeForce 580, but I informed him that there are plenty of great cards for less than $350. Now think of some :) !
-
I doubt that's possible; I don't have a scanner big enough, and my camera is nowhere near good enough to get a nice image.

I've done one painting inspired by Skyrim so far. There will be more to follow as the release of Skyrim gets closer and closer. Nothing really screams 'Skyrim' about this, but the references were a mixture of Icelandic landscapes and Skyrim wallpapers. I think in the next one I'll put in a statue of Akatosh or something... Suggestions, perhaps? I won't promise anything. Sorry about the low picture quality.
I know it's not professional quality... but I'm not a professional :)
EDIT: You can see a higher resolution version if you click the image, in case someone doesn't know. :)

All you need to do is gather a bunch of Skyrim fans, dress in makeshift armor, carry swords, and take over Gamestop. Then you ride out on horses with copies of Skyrim. If anyone tries to be a hero, bow snipe him or leave some poisoned apples.

Yeah. Admittedly, in games realistic combat usually means 'more realistic'.
It was still more realistic than chopping some guy in the head fourteen times and dying through my shield though. :)

I think the newer system requirements might actually be 1GB VRAM, but I'm not sure. It'd be awesome for me if it was still less than 768Mb...
I couldn't even find a 256Mb VRAM version of that card. Are you sure it's not 256-bit?

Yeah, but then if you have a disease and you save over your only file a half hour after getting the disease, you might never be able to get a cure in time and ruin your save.
-
Cement!? But then we'd only hear the guy! That's no fun ;)

Antialiasing won't be affected by definition. It will, however, have more pixels, so it'll look like antialiasing is better.

I have an ancient tv (luckily my pc is new and has a much better monitor, lol), and I can't believe how much better HD looks. If your tv is decent though, I don't know if HD will be much different. It depends on the game as well. MAG? Not good in HD (according to other people). LittleBigPlanet2 (a.k.a. the best reason to own a PS3, lol), looks really nice in HD from what I hear. Skyrim could probably go either way, but my guess is it'd look at least a bit better.

I disagree with the assessment that a combat realism mod wouldn't work. I got a realistic health mod (well, plus I changed it for my preferences), in Oblivion and I loved it. Blocking nulled damage, shields were a valuable commodity (I was always hunting for new ones, lol), and weapons were far more deadly. Two or three hits would drop anyone. Bows were the sniper weapon of choice. Most bandits died in two sword strokes, and I died in one hit as a mage, or two hits with heavy armor. Hack'n'slashing didn't work anymore; I had to set up traps and assassinate people whenever I was fighting more than one person at a time. It was probably the most fun I've had playing a game since I played my first Resident Evil (coming from a person who loves zombies). Whenever I saw an Orc carrying a battleaxe I just sprinted away as fast as I could! (Like a human really would do if encountering a raging Orc.)
In vanilla Oblivion, I could just carve my way through a dungeon and spam potions. I just walked right through traps without a threat. That didn't work after the mod. I found myself tense, creeping through a cave straining to see a tripwire in front of me. If one hit me, it'd drop me at least 75% of my health, or insta-kill me. It was tense. Poisons *gasp* actually mattered! In vanilla I always banked like 50 potions, then I never wanted to use them! After the realistic combat mod, I was going questing just to collect ingredients for my alchemist build, and you know what? It was actually fun exploring, looking for that perfect pool of water with sacred lotus growing, or hunting for the orange speckled cap of Fly Amanita for a much-needed health potion.
In other words, if nobody makes a 'hardcore health limit' mod for Skyrim, I'm going to make my own. Sure, you can hardly kill Daedra or ghosts, and non-tanks need to run in fear from tanks, but really, isn't that what living in a harsh fantasy world is all about?

:) yay.

I like all the glowing rigs; that's why I got one :)
By the time Skyrim releases, I'll be running:
CPU: AMD Phenom 2 Quad Core Black Edition at 3.2Ghz
GPU: Galaxy GeForce GTX460 DDR5, and it's factory overclocked (I'll be running another one in SLI as soon as I stop being so broke)
RAM: 4GB DDR3
PSU: 850W Black Widow
OS: Windows 7 64-bit

The new system requirements recommend 1GB of VRAM. My GeForce GTX460 GC, which I bought specifically for Skyrim when the recommendation was 512MB, is only 768MB. How much do you think this will impact performance on max textures, but at a 1440x900 resolution? Will the resolution possibly make up for my lower VRAM?
-
"Can You Run It?" also thinks that my horrible $50 card has 2GB VRAM. I know that's not true.
It also believes that that same card should be able to play D&D Online with recommended specs, but I can barely manage medium.
In short, don't always trust "Can You Run It" sites.
Though if you don't mind playing in low settings, I doubt most decent cards will have issues.
-
Yeah, upon review I'll second that. The 210 doesn't have much of a hope, not at 1080p, at least, and probably not smooth even at absolute lowest of everything. You'll almost certainly require a much better card to run Skyrim in any capacity. Also, if you tell the specs make sure to list both watts and amps on your power supply. It's not a good idea to try to fit a good card with a 400w, 5 amp psu.
-
I wouldn't like a standard horde mode, but I think if you go to prison you should have the option of getting stuck in an arena for entertainment as an alternative. If you die, reload a save. If you win against unfair odds, you go free. It seems like a 'primal, rough, Nord style of punishment'. It'd probably fit into Skyrim pretty well if somebody modded it.
-
I actually wouldn't mind a self-deleting save. Hardcore roleplayers do that in mmo's all the time. It really mostly ends up making the game more immersive while you're alive; you feel much more alert, focused, and threatened by the enemies, and you feel more like you're in real danger. (you have to be really patient though) But enough about my sad life, lol.
I'd just probably impose a health regen limit for hardcore difficulties, and make traps more damaging. For example, if you run through a swinging axe you get insta-killed. In addition, potions would only be able to refill your health up to something like 30% or 40%; after that, you need to sleep to heal.
-
I wouldn't count on it (not smoothly, at least). That's not much VRAM for such a high resolution, and I doubt Skyrim's lowest settings will be as easy to run as older games'. It's only a $30 dollar card; would it be absolutely impossible to upgrade?
EDIT: Wait, do you have the passive version, or the 1GB version with a fan? 1GB is easily enough VRAM, but it's still DDR3 at only a 500Mhz core. Your chances aren't great for smooth gameplay, but much better with the $40 version compared to the passive version.

On second thought, I just remembered that the warrior tree has some beheading, and I also recall locational blood splatter from the gameplay videos. That means there must already be some kind of precise hit tracking and damage system depending on where you're hit. If the modders (better modders than me) can adapt that, maybe locational damage won't be so hard to get after all.
I understand the health regen now; that might not be so simple. It's still probably possible based on what we know about Oblivion.

Well, we already had a thread like this, but I can't resist showing off my rig. Behold!
