  1. What graphics card do you have?
  2. I think it's very unlikely that From would make the player character special, so the protag is probably not the firstborn. Looking at their history, the KF series gave you literally a featureless character. You never even saw your own face in KF4, which was the last one ever made. In their Armored Core games, the protag is once again a blank canvas with no set characteristics. In Dark Souls, as in Demon's Souls, you're almost certainly nobody special once again. Kingseeker Frampt says you're the "chosen undead", but there's no proof that he's telling the truth. In fact, simply because he says that you're chosen, but then warns you to be cautious, implies that he may be lying. He may be trying to manipulate every capable undead he finds into fulfilling the prophecy, hoping that at least one will succeed. My guess is we're nobody special. Just an undead who's determined and strong willed enough to resist the hollowing.
  3. it wasn't "snuck in", because From never said they were ditching it. They said the game would be available on Steam, and it is. However, the Steam version still uses GFWL drm, which caused some confusion originally. So yes, it still uses GFWL. If you're worried about save deletion, a widely used mod called DSfix fixes many aspects of the port and also can be used to back up your saves automatically.
  4. Well, the 7xxx series is better for overclocking, and they're less expensive generally. Not being able to force SSAO in the drivers could be a potential loss though, plus TXAA. Edit: Regardless of the card, it'd be a good idea to spend $3 more and get the 1600Mhz version of that RAM, unless you're intent on getting a single stick. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428
  5. I'm not sure anything can be worse than Origin actually... Origin was infectious enough to infiltrate half my games, even though they had nothing to do with Origin. I bought Skyrim through Steam (Origin was not involved at all), but after getting my first Origin game (BF3), every time I'd play Skyrim I'd get corrupt files and massive lag. Eventually I noticed that Origin was turning itself on whenever I played ANY game, even ancient ones like Arx Fatalis. It didn't take long to connect the dots, so I uninstalled Origin. After I ran the Origin uninstaller it dragged most of Skyrim's files (including the .exe) with it into the nether, along with stray bits of other games. I can't be totally certain, but there's a huge indication that Origin was to blame, unless it's a massive coincidence that all my problems went away after getting rid of EA's drm.
  6. wha? :ermm: Lol, real pirates. :)
  7. He's not really getting 120 fps. The refresh rate of the monitor is 120 fps, but the games on the PS3 are capped at 30 or 40 fps, depending on the game. Although the screen's higher refresh will help clarity and sync somewhat, it's not the effect of a 120 fps game. In addition, just because the screen is 1080p doesn't mean the game is 1080p. Most PS3 games and all 360 games are capped at 720p, so even on a 1080p screen they're still 720p stretched out. I've played plenty of PS3 games on my 1080p monitor and on a friend's 1080p tv, and they're definitely not running at 1080p unless the game itself advertises 1080p support (like in Sacred 2 and a handful of others). They look worse than they do on a native 720p screen unless you sit or stand far away. Anyway, it's basically irrelevant now since I have a solid 720p LED tv. It's 22 inches, so I just have it next to my pc monitor and play PS3 games like I play PC games, from about two feet away.
  8. Hah, yeah. This exactly. I keep trying to use Force in Dark Souls to knock Black Phantoms off platforms in Blight Town. It doesn't usually work given the short range, but it gets them running and quitting. I used Firestorm with the Insanity Catalyst, Ring of Magical Sharpness, and the Kris Blade all together for a similar purpose in Demon's Souls. At that point it's almost always a one-or-two-hit kill, even considering that magic doesn't scale as much with level in DS compared to DkS. If they're invading, how can they expect a fair fight? The very idea is a conflict in terms. I never actually PvP much for its own sake, and I never PvP'd at all [with the Red Eye Stone at least] in Demon's Souls. With Demon's Souls it's because of minor lag, and in the PS3 version of Dark Souls I didn't PvP because of much worse lag. In the PC version of Dark Souls it feels pretty fair, if only because dodging actually works without lag. I "like" black phantom invasions now because of the tension it adds, but I still wouldn't actively seek PvP. I'm not really into competitive modes. There's too much melodrama.
  9. This sounds odd considering I haven't been killed by any of these things online yet. The only guy who killed me did it with an (apparently) upgraded sword with a high chance to cause bleeding. I'm not saying that some spells are not at least a little overpowered, but it's not enough to sway the course of most invasions. Having said that, I've only put 50 hours into the pc version so far and I'm usually hollow, so invasions are rare. I also think it's silly that black phantoms complain about getting hit 3 vs 1. It was always my understanding that as a black phantom, you're expected to be outmatched. Otherwise nobody would ever make any progress and everyone would bash the game for having a **** community or something. Anyway, I'm happy to say that my 460 is more than capable of maxing Dark Souls, using DS Fix SSAO, with a DoF resolution of 810p, with screen downsampling at 1152p. The game looks gorgeous and is still smooth (aside from a couple tiny spots in Blight Town). Even the Demon Ruins are good 99% of the time, which is surprising considering I didn't know if a 460 with 768MB of vram would handle many games at 1080p, let alone the 1152p I'm using in Dark Souls with SSAO. It runs much better and looks much better than Skyrim on my rig. Has anyone considered that perhaps the sporadic framerate drops are the result of White Light Gates scaling with resolution? Various effects such as fur and particles scale with resolution in DkS, so it wouldn't surprise me if White Light Gates scaled heavily. It seems like one is on-screen or in front of the player behind obstructions whenever there's slowdown.
  10. I just started college, but the pressure's killing me. It's not even that hard right now, but all the courses have some terrible requirement, like "If you don't turn in one assignment, you automatically fail". I don't plan on not turning in an assignment, but it's horrifying that one lapse of memory could ruin everything. I have a terrible memory (I keep very detailed text documents on a laptop now), and every other week I end up depressed. In high school I could get enough done while depressed that I'd get D's for that week, and once the depression passed I'd get A's for long enough to bring my grade back up. Now that's not going to work, but my depression isn't any easier to cope with, if it's even depression. I don't know anymore. Now it feels more like agoraphobia or social anxiety or something like that. I really don't know. Ofc, taking 16 credits per semester I only have time for a part-time job so I have to live with my parents. That'd be okay, except more and more I feel like I need to get help with whatever mental problem I have. I've talked to them, and if I fail a single class I'll be kicked out. I can't split rent with someone else, because I absolutely can't talk to people. I put off getting a haircut for like four months because I didn't want to deal with the talking aspect of it. It's painful to try to work on assignments when everything in my head is screaming that I'll fail everything, and I don't have time for therapy or something like that. My doctor just keeps prescribing the same thing that I've been taking for a year, which doesn't help. Ofc I'm still taking it, but this is getting really sickening and he never considers changing the prescription when I say that it's not working. I don't know what the **** I'm going to do.
  11. I've been searching for a long time for moddable older games, so I thought I'd ask here. There are a few preferences, however: The game should be for a Windows OS (2000, XP, 7, etc). I like playing a few DOS games in DOSbox, but I don't want to try modding any of them on a Windows OS with tools meant for DOS. The game should be fairly moddable. It doesn't need to be as moddable as Oblivion, but you should be able to do more than swap textures. Games with toolkits are preferred, but a toolkit isn't necessary. If you just can't think of any moddable older rpgs, then as a last resort I'd be happy with just texture swapping and similar tweaks. The game should be as open as possible. Once again, it doesn't need to be as open as Morrowind, but it shouldn't use a linear mission system. I've tried Google, but usually everyone just recommends the games that everybody already knows about, like Oblivion, Morrowind, Skyrim, Fallout, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, etc. Those suggestions aren't very helpful because they're very common and well-known.
  12. Mounted combat is a patch feature as Ragicka said, not a Dawnguard feature.
  13. "REAL Demons". lol
  14. Hopefully it's optimized a little better.

    Skyrim Question

I'm editing the vanilla Skyrim body meshes. I've been looking at Skyrim armor tutorials, as that's the closest thing I could find. The armor tutorials tell me to delete the bones of the mesh, but would I actually delete those if I'm editing the body itself for a body mod? I'm using Nifskope and Blender.
  16. A superclocked 670 has performance almost identical to a 680, but costs $80 less than a 680. Ofc the superclocking will wear on the card a little faster.
  17. I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as an AMD Radeon 640. Do you mean an Nvidia 640, or did you forget a number of an AMD card?
  18. CAPS LOCK?
  19. If you're saying what I think you're saying, you could edit the weather in the CS to make it always foggy.
  20. My 768MB runs Skyrim at 1080p with some hd textures and a lot of mods, at 60fps. 4GB is just overkill. The current generation of 4GB cards literally exist only for people who play on at least 3 monitors.
  21. I see... Well, I've been working with an esp and I haven't been able to reproduce the bugs I was getting, so I may just use an esp.
  22. Single cards do work best for Skyrim. I'm not sure how the cards you listed compare, but a single card is probably the way to go for Skyrim.
  23. No, even 2GB will handle Skyrim with a total 2k HD overhaul. 1GB almost gets the job done. If you were running triple monitors in eyefinity you'd want 4GB, because 4GB is made for people gaming on multiple monitors at crazy resolutions. You use two monitors, but one isn't used for gaming. I'd bet almost anything that 2GB would easily be enough for any game on a single monitor, even with HD textures. I'd get a 2GB 670 if I was in your position. A friend has one, and last time I checked he was getting way above 60 fps in the newest games on ultra.
  24. Is there some way that I can edit the Skyrim.esm? I know it'd break compatibility with most mods, and I know that most people edit esps. The mod I'm trying to make requires that I edit the Skyrim.esm, because using an esp would be very inefficient and would create a lot of dirt.
  25. Nvm. Edit: If your PS3 controller won't work, corded 360 controllers are only about $25. Btw, if you're trying to use a PS3 controller and your pc doesn't have bluetooth connectivity, just connect it with a usb cord and set MotionJoy to "local".
