  1. Is your fps capped? If you use certain framerate cappers at certain values below 60 fps, like ENB's internal capper, it can massively extend your load times. I was capping my fps at 30 for a while with ENB and my loads went up to 4-5 minutes. I changed the cap to 60 and the load times went down to 5-7 seconds. Capping my Skyrim fps at 30 and 45 through Nvidia Inspector also caused the long load times, but capping at 60 fixed it again. Removing the cap altogether doesn't shorten the load times any more than capping at 60 however. Since Skyrim has internal vsync at 60, it seems that Skyrim is prone to bugs for certain people when capped below 60.
  2. It looks like intense lens glare to me. Your game looks really bright, maybe there's a powerful light source or several light sources somewhere causing it?
  3. I'm trying to make a body mod based on the vanilla bodies. I like the shape of them, and I hate texture seams, clipping, and exaggerated proportions, so I'll be making nude body mods for males and females by editing the vanilla meshes and textures. I have Blender and Nifskope, but I'm not sure how to convert body meshes safely between Blender/Nifskope/Skyrim. Would a program such as 3ds Max be easier to use, or is Blender adequate for conversions and edits? I'll pay for another program if it'll make editing or converting nifs simpler. Also, if someone could just explain how to convert specifically character bodies so that the necessary data stays intact, that'd be really appreciated. Posting a link that describes that would be good as well. I noticed that in the Meshes.bsa, there are two body meshes for each sex: malebody_0 malebody_1 femalebody_0 femalebody_1 Both versions for each sex look identical to me in Nifskope, which do I edit?
  4. The other issue is that my 1080p monitor needs to be run through my video card in order to fix some brightness oddities, and obviously I can't do that on the PS3, lol. All the colors look faded when I play my PS3 on my 1080p monitor, though it looks fine with my pc. I ended up buying a 22" LED model from LG. There aren't many LED tvs at 720p, so I'm glad I found one that actually has a 720p native resolution and not 768p.
  5. This isn't a request, as I'm planning on doing it myself at some point in the future. This is just to discuss the advantages of Skyrim's dialogue system, and how it can be used to create characters with personality depth equivalent to characters from one of Bioware's games (Mass Effect, Dragon Age, etc). As Skyrim is still based around a disposition system, it's easy to make dialogue choices add or subtract disposition (assuming it works at all like Morrowind or Oblivion). This could be used to create a companion that has realistic responses to a character's dialogue, while Skyrim's alignment system can allow characters to react to your actions. In previous ES games, getting companions functioning at any level was a large task that occupied a lot of time. CM Partners is by far the biggest companion mod for previous games, and even that struggled to find a unified following. Only a few characters come to mind that actually reached realistic depth, and all of those used independent companion systems (not CM Partners). Now that Skyrim has followers by default, it should be relatively easy to work on character depth in a way that previous ES games never reached. However, so far nobody has done this. I'll certainly make a character like this once I start college and get rid of my current job, but it's strange that nobody has attempted this. It's a long-running joke that marriagible npcs in Skyrim are only bland sammich-makers, so this is actually really surprising. Thoughts?
  6. What people mean when they say "lore-unfriendly" or "unfitting" is that they don't fit TES lore. The timelines match up, but the lore doesn't. For example: glass swords. lol. I'm not saying this is a bad idea, I'm just saying that people saying it doesn't fit aren't simply talking about a medieval timeline. It's your request ofc, I'm not trying to detract, I'm just explaining their position.
  7. Nevermind, I bought one. :)
  8. I've heard of a couple other people having shut-downs from Skyrim, without it being PSU failure. It could easily be PSU failure, but there's hope.
  9. Windows 7 There's only a minimal chance that Vista will run effectively on 2GB of RAM.
  10. Really Textured Normal Maps for Vanilla is great, but it won't work with Qarl's Texture Pack. The Oblivion Graphics Extender (OBGE) is great as well. Using OBGE will also let you use AA with HDR lighting, as you can enforce AA through OBGE. Also, Natural Faces helps the character's face textures.
  11. the whole leveling system and scaling, Oblivion Unleveled the landscape (the world in general felt kinda meh), Unique Landscapes Compilation the combat (ALL parts of the triangle), Unnecessary Violence II or Deadly Reflex As for other mods... Alternative Beginnings. (many new options when starting the game) http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/37382 CM Partners. (adds a full companion system) http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/7819 Faster Magic. (makes damage spells like Flare travel 2x as fast in the air) http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/41103 I'm planning a mod right now that'll change the lore to a medieval folklore setting instead of a TES setting. It affects mostly lore sources like dialogue and books. If I finish it I'll pm you a link, if you're interested.
  12. Atm, if one or more commentor/s starts to flame a mod the only way to get them to stop is to warn them, ban them, or lock the entire comments page. It could be useful if there was a function to block individual users from commenting on a mod. The person determining which people would be unable to comment would be the mod creator, ofc. We wouldn't want to give people the ability to delete comments that are already in place, as that would open the door to mod creators covering up large issues with their mods and allowing only the good comments, but the ability to block users from commenting on a specific mod again would be useful.
  13. It's possible that they'll use GFWL's more intrusive functions to block mod support, but idk.

  15. A new article seems to have confirmed that the PC release of Dark Souls will be capped at 720p and 30 fps, despite previous information. My guess would be they took out the option of uncapping the game after noticing code issues, and the 1080p thing was probably just a mix-up to begin with. This is fine imo, but the part I don't like is that they're apparently using GFWL servers for everything. I can bear GFWL as drm, but their servers are terrible, and more importantly, this means that Dark Souls on the pc may get taken offline eventually. I'm hoping for the best and planning for the worst. If the Dark Souls pc release uses GFWL servers in addition to the confirmed DRM, I'll buy it to support FROM's PC attempt and then just play the PS3 version. Anyway, that's not really the point. The point is, I just bought the PS3 Collector's Edition of Dark Souls for $90, as I decided to work even more hours to make up for it. Yay! I get the official soundtrack! That's like 30% of the reason I bought the CE. Another 20% is the cover art, while the remaining 50% is just because I want to have the best version.
  16. I used the UDK once for about a week, lol. It's fairly user-friendly, and it looks nice. It's still pretty complicated though. Pretty much everything is going to be complicated and somewhat overwhelming. Prepare yourself for that and take it one small step at a time.
  17. I like my new 1080p pc monitor, but sadly most ps3 games are 720p, so they look really bad blown up on a 24 inch 1080p monitor. Because of this, I also need a 720p tv. I know what to look for in monitors, but none of the specs I've seen are consistent across tvs. Some people say a contrast ratio of 20,000:1 is good, which is completely wrong, while others say a certain monitor is 720p when it's really 1366x768. Blegh. Can someone recommend a good led tv? It must have: a native resolution of 720p (not 1366x768, or 1920x1080, or anything else. Exactly 1280x720.) a screen size between (and including) 19" and 24" at least one hdmi port an LED backlight Speakers are irrelevant, as I'm going to use my pc speakers connected directly to the PS3. How are these, btw? http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN19D4003-19-Inch-Black-MODEL/dp/tech-data/B004VRJ3FQ/ref=de_a_smtd http://www.amazon.com/LG-22LV2500-22-Inch-720p-LED-LCD/dp/tech-data/B004OVEUR0/ref=de_a_smtd Also, does viewing 720p content on a 1080p monitor make it look worse than viewing it on a native 720p screen?

  19. There's Dark Souls in a few weeks. I doubt it'll be very moddable, if at all, but it's open and it's amazing without mods.
  20. F*** yeah. I'm glad I didn't buy Arma II now.
  21. I had a Dell laptop once... it died in a week and I never got another one from that company. Thankfully the warranty was still in effect. My Dell speakers broke after a month, so there's that. I'd go with something from ASUS. I haven't had one of their products break yet.
  22. I prefer Oblivion, and it's easier to run, so I'd definitely say to go for the PC version. The mods are really developed, whereas we're still seeing a lot of WIPs and experimentation in Skyrim. I strongly recommend this graphical mod. It just changes a few textures and it's a virtually nonexistant performance hit, but it vastly improves the lod. http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/18497 And ofc, I shamelessly self promote my one and only finished HD texture mod. http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/42285
  23. Essentially it's going to be a quad-core cpu at 3.1Ghz, as four cores is the most anybody is really optimizing for. That's pretty solid for $700, unless AMD FX cpus have a drawback I don't know about? Edit: It might also help for future-proofing to have the extra cores, as the next-gen consoles will probably have several cpu cores and therefore next-gen games will probably be more optimized for multiple cores.
  24. The install thing sounds problematic. Have you tried just deleting all the files manually and having Steam validate the game cache? As for the bug itself, it could be a Steam thing. I use it with the disk GOTY and have no difficulties. Did you have a vanilla Morrowind install? That's strongly recommended. I tried without a vanilla Morrowind install once and I kept running into invisible walls. -_- You can certainly use it with separate mods; I use several. You just have to be careful that they don't conflict, and other mods you intend to use should be installed carefully after MGSO. Also, make sure you're using MGE XE in the advanced configuration options for MGSO. As far as I know, that's the best and newest version, and it's the version I use. Alternatively, you could try reinstalling Morrowind, only installing MGE XE, and check if that works. If it does, then the problem is probably not an unavoidable one. If it doesn't work, I would have to assume that MGE XE takes issue with either your specific hardware configuration, or with Steam. If MGE XE doesn't work in any capacity, I would recommend trying a different version of MGE. You'll miss out on some of the more advanced effects, but it'd still be a vast graphical improvement over vanilla. If no version of MGE works, or no version with sufficient graphical improvements for your taste, I would recommend getting a physical version of Morrowind, if possible. @Themisive Admirable from a fan's objective perspective of the series, but not very helpful to the OP in this case.
  25. Wait, there's an EC? That's good, I was worried I was going to have to mentally end the series at ME2.
