  1. You can check how much VRAM you have by loading up this tool prior to starting Skyrim: GPU-Z

Edit: Load GPU-z and have it running WHILE you're playing Skyrim

It's a free tool that will allow you to know how much VRAM you are using during your play.

2 GB should be fine if you're running textures at or below 2k, but if you are running textures at 4k and up(CBBE body mods, high res weapon mods) then during extended play you could run into slight stuttering and maybe freezing. But don't worry, 2GB is good, since my old video card ran at that and as long as I ran an optimizer (search for it on Nexus and learn how to use this handy tool) I didn't have an issues.

You don't need a Titan for Skyrim unless you're playing with 3 screens at once. Your 680 is more than enough.

Edit: Also it has to be a TON of 4K textures. You can run some mods at 4K, just don't go overboard with it. You'll be fine

  2. You need mods. Bethesda absolutely underpowered Mage's in this game and all you can rely on on higher levels is stun spamming once you get the impact perk. A mage build is the weakest build in Skyrim. There are a bunch of Mage mods (I have one, but don't download it, I'm releasing a big update really soon). Find ones that will allow your magic to level as you spend perks in the destruction tree. That's all you can do at this point.

  3. What's your screen resolution? If it's nothing massive then you should be more than fine. Also make sure the mod is 2K and below. Get an optimizer, there's two good ones here on the nexus, to shrink the files without too much of a loss in quality.

  4. I have several black soul gems and a daedric dagger that does soul trap and I wanted to slay Aerin before trying to marry Mjoll. Well the plan has backfired in a pretty violent way. After I killed Aerin and his soul entered the gem, Mjoll FLIPS THE *kaboom* OUT! She says, "I can't believe this is happening!" Then she draws her axe, and goes on a mass murdering rampage. She kills a begger, then follows me into the tavern where she kills a few other non-essential people until finally someone depletes all of her health. I had to kill Mjoll in the end. I have a mod that lets me kill essentials if I hit them three times when they do that crouching thing by the way. I also have a mod that stores corpses in coffins down in their respective city halls of the dead so several new coffins now line the Riften crypt including Mjoll. It was kind of funny but quite bizarre. Does Mjoll normally lose it like this if Aerin is cut down right in front of her? No one knew I did it because I didn't get a bounty so did she just decide to kill all of Riften to ensure that the real killer was brought to justice? Skyrim never ceases to amaze me.

To kill Aerin, without Mjoll acting weird, do what I did, cast Frenzy on her and Aerin, have them fight. She will win all the time and won't get mad at you because she was the one who did the killing. I also think the Unofficial Patch fixed this not sure. Haven't married Mjoll in a long time. Oh, make sure you're in stealth when casting Frenzy, just in case she deems you hostile.

  5. First of all if you want ur overhaul to be good u must to make it work with Frostfall because its a must have mod now.

Dead Thrall was my favorite spell but it's became useless, u should remove the level cap, so u can thrall everyone at every level, and something that I always wanted is to edit the thralls inventory like they are followers, and let u use thralls as Vampire Lord, because they die when u enters the Vampire Lord and if u are high level they can't be thralled again.

I wish also for imerssive Racial abilites so we can feel differences when we playing each races like :

Khajiit - Claws that scales with stamina 15% Movement Speed + 15% Jump, 50% Fall Damage Reduce + Toggle Nightvision.

Bosmer - Stamina 15% more damage with Bows (not crossbows) 15% faster bow draw, 15 % faster movement with bow, 50% Poision and disease Resistance, Command Animal - let u command animals no cooldown.

Redguard - +70 Stamina - Adrenaline Rush (Infinite Mana for 60 seconds) - 50% resistance to poision 25% Stronger Dual Wielding and 15% faster dual wielding , Alteration is 20% stronger (because they using cloths)

Nord - +50Health + Stamina 50% Resistance to Frost, Tweaked Battlecry - let u attack 4X more damage with weapons (no magic) while reciving x3 more damage

Orcs - +100HP and +50 Stamina Berserker Rage (no magic) (Only good Racial Ability), 15% better smithing.

Altmer - +100 Magicka, All Spells cost 15% less and 10% stronger, Highborn (Can Be Tweaked)

Argonian - + 30 Magicka,Stamina,Health. - Waterbreath + 25% faster swimming, Get 25% less damage from Weapons (because of their skin), Claws scales with stamina, Histskin, 50% resistance to disease

Dunmer - +50 Magicka and Stamina %50 Resistance to fire + fire spells are 20% stronger, Ancestor's Wrath - get x2 less damage and deal 40 fire damage per if you are below 15% hp.

    I have more ideas...

My overhaul is only touching AI, Spawns, Magic, Loot, and System tweaks. Should be compatible with frostfall, because I use it too. I haven't touched Races yet but those are some good suggestions. Dead Thrall spell has no cap and you can thrall anything (Werewolves, Deathlords, etc) the vanilla only does human NPCs. I actually did the uncapped mod in my "Better Mage" mod, ages ago, say January of last year. New spell will allow players to prevent them from despawning and will allow you to access their inventory so that they can wear the armor you give them and stop respawning their vanilla armor.

My magic overhaul really pertains to class. After you create your character, you pick a class. So far I have Conjurer, Spellsword/BattleMage, Assassin, Warrior, Barbarian, Lich/Necromancer, Illusionist, Blacksmith, Bard, Scout, Thief, Hunter, Paladin.

The class system will lock you into a build. You are then free to play however you want, but whatever perks you pick up, will unlock special spells and abilities pertaining to the build you pick. For example: A conjurer who puts perks in 1H will unlock conjurers that use 1H weapons. As you put points into smithing, those same conjurations will wear the armor you put perks into. So if you unlock "Orcish smithing", your 1H conjurers will wear Orcish gear. Conjurer has been the deepest one, and took 2 months to finish. I have conjurations for Rogues, 2H, Dual, Archers, Necro, Illusionist, etc. Whatever perk you spend in the main tree, you will obtain the conjurations of that build. So if as a conjurer you spend certain perks in Heavy, 1H, and Block, you will obtain a spell that will allow you to summon Random (three each) Tanks. They will specialize in 1H, Shield, and Heavy armor and will tank. Once reaching master conjuration, you can unlock only ONE of the three that will allow you to make them a permanent Follower. They will no longer have the familiar ghost shade and be fully voiced and mariable. Done for both male and females. Did spells for all the builds, so a conjurer will have multiple spells.

I won't get into what I have in store for the others, since it's too long but I'm finishing SpellSword and it's turning out awesome. If you pick SpellSword and spend perks into conjuration, then you will unlock conjurations that will fight alongside you and if you choose, transform into unique and powerful weapons that you can wield for a set duration. Each weapon will have unique enchantments.

This system allows me to keep things totally vanilla and allow others to use other magic, perk mods, since you unlock my perks by using the Vanilla perks. A menu will pop up when you reach an achievement.

I have tons more done/planned and that's why it has taken me a year to do this since I'm a one man crew.

Thanks for the feedback. I will work on Racial Spell overhaul as well.

  6. U right about the enchanting but still, I don't think that Alvor can sell Enchanted ebony helmet ever !,

most of the blacksmith dont even know what magic is...

Yeah, they may not be able to enchant, but I'm sure they could easily pay a mage, or have a friend that is a mage, do the enchanting for them. That's at least how I try to interpret it.

Edit: Lol, I totally botched the whole quote thing.

  7. That's all the screenshots I have, don't mind the armors (lol) since I created bandits ages ago, I no longer use them. I was looking for a barbarian look to the game, but some of them were just over the top. So what do you guys think? Too over the top, looks wise? I used Apachii's hair (received permission of course). This project is about 60% done because right now I'm doing world spawns, Unique boss battles, and a new class system that won't just be about stats. You will get skills depending on the playthrough you select. If you're familiar with my "Better Mage" mod, then you know what direction I'm heading in. I redid that mod, so now it's a ton less buggy.
  8. I'm working on a NPC, Gameplay, Dungeon, Loot, Spawn, Magic overhaul mod for Skyrim. It will be called, "Skyrim Dark" that will make the game ridiculously more immersive, difficult, and more aesthetically pleasing. I created thousands of Bandit, Thalmor, Forsworn, Vigilants, Warlocks, etc of both male and female characters in Skyrim. This has taking me months to achieve and I'm pretty much finished with character creation. Now I'm working on new spawn points so that they spawn all over skyrim, I already pretty much finished adding more spawns in dungeons (separate plugin) which is why the game will be harder (also overhauled the entire AI system, so combat will be more dynamic, NPCs will heal and use potions, and skilled NPCs like guards and thalmor will be harder than say bandits). My question is, do you guys prefer the NPCs to be more rugged or beautiful looking?

The reason I asked is because this mod was conceived because I enjoy playing as a necromancer and LOVED the dead thrall spell but I hit a wall after level 30 or so because A): Any NPC that you dead thralled, will be cleaned up after a few days or so. B): Some of the characters that you could dead thrall were either hideous (looks wise), weak, or there was no variety. All of the spawns looked the same. Now you may not notice it as you causually play through, but when you're looking for unique NPCs to thrall, it's quite noticeable. And as I tackled through the CK, trust me, there is like one template for a handful of NPCs, there is NO variety. So I started creating NPCs and got carried away. I also tweaked the dead thrall spell, so that now, you will gain a spell that you can buy that will prevent the NPCs that you want to thrall, from being cleaned up. This can add to save bloat if you use the spell on hundreds of dead NPCs, so I also created a spell that will allow you to disable the ones you no longer want. Now I have over a 1,000 or so and they all look like some of those standalone follower mods. Is this OK with you guys?

Here is a screenshot of just some random bandit, I will try to add more. There are hundreds that are just like her, and I spent way too much time on character creation (OCD) would you guys want to play in a world like this, or cringe, do you want me to make them more rugged?

  9. Also, their are some really good mods that are buried on the nexus because so few download them. The youtubers who make videos, only look for new mods, don't blame them though, because there are a ton of mods on this site. Just saying, for any potential modder out their, before releasing your mod, have a video on your mod page. That's one of the first things I look for before downloading your mods. Don't rely on the youtubers to do it for you, because there's a chance that they might miss it or aren't interested in your mod. Do it yourself. Go to forums, be active in the community, promote your mod before releasing it, if you want to gain popularity on Nexus.
  10. Modders work for free. They get no money, no jobs, the only perks to modding is watching your download counter go up as you create mods. So modders make what they feel are going to get popular, Skimpy armors, hair, or other FEMALE based mods. Not knocking that, for I use some of those mods as well, just saying that nothing is more frightening to a modder than spending countless months in to a mod and seeing only a handful of people download it. So the majority play it safe. If people see different content make it into the top files, then it will encourage people to expand their modding horizons.

I'm working on a magic, gameplay, loot, dungeon overhaul mod that has taken me almost 9 months to get to the point where I can say I'm 60% done. And I'm AFRAID that when I finish, my mod will only be downloaded by a few people. So I have to encourage myself that this mod, is changes that I WANT TO PLAY, and am making the mod for me. I tell myself that my mod is just something that I find enjoyable and am so kind enough to share it with the community. If modders have this concept in mind, you'll see more diverse mods. Right now, the majority are just giving the people what they want, and that's skimpy, female armor.

  11. I get your gripes, some of them I totally agree with, but I find it silly that you (Dragonborn) are the only person in Skyrim that can craft Glass, Elven, Orcish, Dwarven, Ebony armor. The materials are all over Skyrim. Now Daedric, that's one thing since it requires a Daedra heart and not too many people are skilled enough to take down one of those. And since there are blacksmith trainers, all over Skyrim, I'm sure those trainers are skilled enough to craft and sell Orcish, Ebony, Glass, Dwarven. Though I love your idea of having Orcish blacksmiths sell primarily Orcish. I'm working on an overhaul mod (9 months now) and I will look to doing some of the things you mentioned (having touched the looting system yet, but I'm gonna).

As far as enchanted items, I'm sure those Blacksmiths have enough coin to hire Mage's who can enchant the items for them so that they can sell them. You (Dragonborn) aren't the only one with the common Enchanting skill. That would be like the Dragonborn being the only one able to cast fireball, icespike, etc. Shouts should be the only thing that is unique to the Dragonborn.

  12. I posted this on his/her main page, but I'll post it here as well since Apachii's hair mod is popularly used.

I have discovered a work around that will allow you to ONLY choose the hair that you want. That means if you have no need of creating an elf, orc, khajiit, or male character, then the hairs for those won't clog up the character creator, thus increasing the risk of crashing. This little workaround requires the CK. Keep in mind, the best way is to have a hair you already want to use. Apachii has pictures of his hairs in your Skyrim Data folder that you can use to decide which ones you want to use. The fewer, the better it will run in game.

    1. Load up the CK and only choose one of Apachii's plugins. ONLY one at a time. So start with 1.5, since it's the largest. Just double click and wait for it to load in the CK.

    2. On the left hand side, go under the CHARACTER heading, in the CK (Under Actors and Audio), find the HeadPart tab and click it.

    3. Type Apachii in the filter and you will see the selections of all of Apachii's hairs. Now what you need to ignore is any file with HairLine in it's title. Ignore that totally.

    4. Make sure you have a hair or hairs (fewer the better) that you would like to use. Say, ApachiiFHair39... Since that's the one I want to use, then double click the other hairs (ApachiiFHair38, 37, etc). And a box should appear.

    5. There will be a tab marked PLAYABLE, this tab will have a check mark in a box. Click the box so that the check mark is gone. Then hit ok. Do this for all the hairs that you don't have a desire to use. Remember, ignore any Apachii file with HairLine in it, they don't matter. Each race has their own hair, so if you don't want to play as an orc, elf, Khajiit, then find the Apachii files with those race names (the race will be in CAPS) and remove the playable tag from them.

    6. Now that you picked the hair or hairs (the fewer the better) SAVE your esp. Name it whatever you want.

    7. Make sure that it's activated (use NMM) and create your character (beginning of game or showracemenu). Then do the same things for the optional version 1.2 females and the males file.

The hairs that you allowed to be playable should only show up in the creation menu. The ones that you have no need for, will not show and will greatly reduce crash. This method takes preparation, have in mind the Race, Gender, and Hair for the character that you want to create, and then build it.

If you decided to change your mind of the hairs that you wanted to use or not use. Reload your plugin, and mark the ones you want to use as playable and the ones that you don't, remove the playable tag.

One thing to note. Any mod that relies on Apachii's hair mod as a Master, or uses APachii's hair mods as standalone hairs, must be disabled before loading the game. This may cause a duplicate hairs (something already noted on Apachii's main page) and ultimately defeats the purpose of this workaround. Disable them, then create your character, then re-enble those mods.

You can notify the mod authors of those mods to uncheck the box marked PLAYABLE to the hairs added so that the duplication bug is avoided. Or do it yourself. This will in NO way cause those mods to load bald NPCs, because PLAYABLE only applies to the PLAYER. Just like how Dremora that you kill won't allow their armor to be looted. Their armor isn't marked as playable, but it still shows up on the Dremora.

Sorry for the novel, but this is the best way, that I discovered, to allow you to avoid the crash bug by allowing only the HAIRS that YOU want. This isn't a bug on Apachii's end, it's just how fragile the game engine is. Hope this helps, this works for me 100% of the time.

  13. I am experiencing the same thing, and don't want to be overly negative, but thank GOD somebody else is experiencing this because I thought it was only me. I disabled every mod (mine included), verified cache, reinstalled, rolled back drivers, bought new ram, cleaned GPU, underclocked gpu, underclocked cpu, pretty much everything that I could do to fix this problem. I believe this is a Skyrim issue, because it doesn't happen when I play BF3, Withcher 2, DAO, or my other PC games. Ever since the 1.4.27 patch, this has been happening, mainly outside, and when using destruction magic spells. Even the new beta patch, 1.5, haven't fixed this for me. I have been slow on updates because I can't play long enough to test things. Skyrim, at the moment, is unplayable for me. Any solutions that's out there that could help me discover this issue, would be greatly appreciated.
