  1. 1. Possible, easy. Simply unpack the BSA files. 2. No. Uploading anything of this is aginst the EULA.
  2. It's not about liking or not liking. My point is simple: You don't go around and fling an AAA title as Syrim as bad because of "X" reason or "Only because of hype" or "WIll not buy before it is on sale". It is simply ignorant to talk about it like that. Most people like Skyrim. Yes, it could be better. But starting to say you will not buy it before it is on sale? That is an insult to the 90ish people working for it on 4-5 years. People expect WAY too much for what they pay. They even release a possibility to mod the game, JUST for us. People make their own problems, and it does not justify the work put down into the game. That said, I will not bother to argue. The fact stand: You get more than you paid for with this game, and yes it could be better. But saying you will not buy it before it is on sale is nothing but ignorant. Matth
  3. Oh god, people can be so.. petty. TES games are superb. You gain from 50-1000 houres with it. And you come and tell me you will not buy it before it is on sale? ... Give it a rest. Are you that spoiled?
  4. The reasoning the games are "small" is not because it is better, but because having an average of 90 man on a project for 4-5 years and spending almost a $100 million is a lot. Oh, and Daggerfall was overly huge. Going from 1 town to another took a few houres. Nobody enjoys that. That said, I would not mind some randomly generated dungeons within the game itself. It's one thing to have infinite quests, but they all send me through the same dungeons I have been to the last thousand times! I would welcome a mix. Keep the game as it is, but add a few randomly generated dungeons, a few random generated camps and a few random generated NPCs. It's not like you walk through the streets of London and yell "YOU ARE ALL MEMORABLE CHARACTERS!". Currently 90% of the NPC got a purpose -- it does not need to be like that. A few NPCs just being random would be nice. Alas, I will not complain. I love every TES. Well, not Morrowind. But that is because I've only got 3 houres into it :/
  5. It would be fun to have randomly generated dungeons again. That said, I still remember being stuck in a single dungeon in Daggerfall for 3 houres >.< Then I found the correct hidden path, and got the damn heart. I have never been as frustrated in my life :o Though it would be amusing to have a similiar design with todays technology. Perhaps done a little better.
  6. Good for us your opinion means nothing. 3.4 million sales the first 48 houres. The average score of the game is what, 96+/100? And Skyrim is suppose to be harsh and cold, not full of colors and being charismatic. Wait for the more southern countries for that. Then you get lush forest and crystal blue river, all filled with dangerous wood elves that snipes you.
  7. Matth, the old one. Race: High Elf Age: Unknown Power: Absolute. Fighting style: Destruction magic and sword. Battlemage. Aligment: Himself. Goal: Unknown. Matth is a character of power and of no aligment. He is a High Elf of extreme power, yet nobody have seen his full wrath. Matth started his journey in daggerfall. His last memory is of the dungeon he finds himself in. Though something happens, and he gains his freedom. Though his memory is lost. Throughout the game Daggerfall he looks for his identity, but to no avail. What he does find out, however, is his lust for power and his ease of learning the art of magic. Yet again he finds himself imprisoned, this time it was after a fight against the King of Worms. He is shipped towards Morrowind. His power sealed, yet is does not bother Matth one bit. It's like this was all part of his plan..... Matth searches the land of Vvardenfell for whatever clue there is, about his past. He knows something is wrong with him, yet can not explain it. His strength regains throughout his journey, and he finds out he is the Nerevarine. A hint at last! With knew knowledge, he keeps searching, manipulating and fighting. Always making deals with the daedra, always gaining more power. He gets in a fight with a small imperial camp, for unknown reasons. He is sent to the imperial prison. Though something is odd. He smiles yet again, knowing what is going on. Using his arcane arts, he changes his face. His cell is "luckily" the same cell the escape route goes for Uriel. He grins as he gets out of there, holding a very special amulet. He finds himself at the heart of Cyrodiil. He decides to play innocent -- weak. Nobody suspect his power at all. He search for knowledge, and end up getting a closer look with the daedric princes. In the end Martins sacrifice had a side effect; The manifistation of Akatosh loosened up Matths memory a slight bit. Showing him a little. Following the next period he goes underground, changing his appearance rather often. Not being fond of the Thalmor, yet never truly striking against them. Though every time the Thalmor was struck, Matth would have something to do with it -- indirectly. He cross the border, hoping to see who this "shouting king-killer!" were, and gather knowledge of this power. As he approach, he is captured together with Ulfric. As they move him towards Helgen, he looks toward the sky and says "*exhale* Today... today will be good." And there we go. As you see, I simply made my character out of 2 concepts: 1. To allow me to use all skills, without it feeling immersion breaking. 2. To have 1 character to use in all games. I must admit, I have not played him in Morrowind yet, and not enough in Oblivion. So that I must do. Though he got plenty of time in Daggerfall and Skyrim  His story isn't exactly "lore-friendly", in the fact he is such a powerfull creation. Though he is inspired by many of the elves that lived for thousand of years due to magic. The concept itself is something I got from Darksiders 1 and Darksiders 2. There is a demon called Samael there. Somebody who is most likely the most powerful demon of them all, yet never shows his power. Nor does he fight for anybody other than himself, and never gives a reason to why he does what he do. It's.. intriguing? Now, what does Matth gain in Skyrim, and what happens then? "The elder scrolls tells of timetravel. Hmm... Timetravel you say? That surely will yield some information about my past!" Matth
  8. That could be. I frankly got no idea about it. My knowledge of the lore is rather basic. Not going too much into depth. However, what I do: There will be TES games for years to go. If they want a game in all povinces of Tamriel, and then start delving into other continents, we are set for about 20+ more years of TES titles. A TES game takes an average of 4-5 years to complete. We are not running out of sweet, sweet TES games any time soon. For all we know it's the new Final Fantasy in terms of a series.
  9. Just a note: Converting without written permission from the mod author is illegal. Against the copyright law. Just an FYI.
  10. No big problems there. Hunting is a part of life in Tamriel.
  11. In Arena, the first TES; you visited all of Tamriel. So there will be as many TES games as there is lore to use. These games sell like nothing else, so why stop? It would be like Final Fantasy stopping at game 1, as they planned to. Why butcher a money cow? As long as EA doesn't show up, this is all good. Note, Breton hails from High Rock and is where Daggerfall took place mainly. Orcs hails from a small kingdom near High Rock as well. There are also other places than Tamriel: Yokuda, Atmora, Akavir, Pyandonea, Thras and Aldmeris. Tang Mo, Kamal, Ka Po'Tun, Tsaesci and Maormer are all races there. The Redguard also hails from Yokuda and the High elves from Aldmeris. So, there are a lot of content to take from, and that does not include the story with the Thalmor that needs unfolding. Matth
  12. He means that it makes very little sense for a random house to be "better" than what anybody else in Skyrim got. Think of it like this: You live in Skyrim. You get a shack outside Whiterun. What do you expect to find there? Well, the most basic of the basic. What do you usually get? You get a fully cluttered house with every craft-station aviliable, complete with a few guards. How come this random shack got more values than the High King had? Simply, a house out in nowhere either needs a good back story, or it needs to be cluttered and sized to make sense. You simply are not getting anything super huge and nice in Skyrim when there is a civil war and dragons flying around, at least not something better than everybody else in Skyrim.
  13. Then I apologize for saying that.
  14. Again, I never intent on discussing, so I will not. That said, yet gain, 3d is 3d. I never said not to look at Skyrim stuff, just do not limit yourself. I stand by it. You don't grow out of tutorials, you run out of them. A tip, nothing else. Yes, I did read your topic. Please, you should think better of people than that.
  15. It isn't different wether you want to mod for Skyrim, or make a self made game or simply do studies for yourself. 3d is 3d. If you go strictly via Skyrim related, you will be shorthanded. The tutorials will run out quickly. Why single through 5 Skyrim tutorials to learn the basic, when all you need is to type "3ds max basic" on youtube, and when you got that you can type "Skyrim 3ds max". I do talk in broader terms here. When you mention stuff as cloth modifiers and all that, then yes -- one should focus on Skyrim. But that is simply because of how the engine works. The best approach, and fastest, is to learn your software. You do that before you think about modelling anything for anything other than yourself. It is of little use to try and modify an armor when you do not know the different between edit poly and edit mesh, or how the symmetry modifier works. Perhaps you want to add a layer to the armor, but not knowing about the shell modifier. You see, and I do try not to disagree and say that this is the right way and anything else is wrong, you need to learn to stand before you learn to walk. It all comes down to what you want to do, yes. But if you start 3d for a game, and do it enough -- trust me, it does become a hobby. Then it is nice to have the basic set in stone for whatever new game you want to mod, or perhaps you want to make something just for yourself? To correct a previous statement of mine: You can learn via Skyrim, but I recommend against it. It might be faster, yes. But the experience and fun gained from learning it from the base is so much more valuable when a new TES game comes out. Especially if it's a new engine and all you've gotten used to is gone. This comes from experience. I first started as you describe. However, back then there were limited tutorials on certain stuff. What I mean to say is: Learning 3d for Skyrim is awesome! But do not limit yourself to SKyrim related tutorials. 3d is 3d no matter, and learning it is fun! Again, I try not to come off as saying it is wrong to only do it, but I recommend thinking a little bigger :) Just a friendly advice from somebody who is self-taught the last 3,5 years. Matth
  16. I must add one thing, as you seem to talk about this rather bakward. You should learn 3d not via Skyrim, but use Skyrim as an inspiration and motivation. If you only look for Skyrim-related tutorials, you get nowhere. However, if you learn to model, then how to convert to Skyrim, you are set in stone. You do not learn via Skyrim and grow out of Skyrim, you learn to model and grow in to Skyrim. Of course, this does not apply if it is editting already made meshes. Other than that, you should focus on the modelling before Skyrim. Start simple. Made a crate, or a sword -- that's how I started. In the end you learn to use the exporter, learn Nifskope and you are free to do whatever you want. You are not limited to Skyrim, Syrim is only the canvas you apply your already made painting -- or so to speak. Matth
  17. Frankly, I do not now. I never tried the student version. I recommend you read up on it. Simply go to http://students.autodesk.com/ And check it out. When it comes to versions, you need to consider plugin. What nif plugins version there is, and what it supports. I'd google it and check it out. Personally I use 2010 version, which is supported. Though back when I started with 2010 version I had to fight the internet untillI found a shabby link to a working version. So newest version is not the best to choose, generally.
  18. - It needs to make sense. That's pretty much it for me. If something is out of place, my eyes might not see it -- but my brain does. It ruins it rather quickly. - Less is more. A fully cluttered house might be nice, it is often unnecessary. I clutter some myself when I venture into the world to collect and try and put them onto shelves myself. - Some nice functions. A hidden room perhaps? A secret passageway out of the house? A secret room where a script will auto-sort all my named unique onto display if I so choose? - Simple. Not having to patch the mod because it got a hundred script that ruins every other mod out there. - Planned. So that whatever NPC is there will not get stuck randomly, or that the house layout makes no sense. - The ouside must match the inside. Yeah, no huge interior, but a little shack exterior. It kind of needs to make sense. - Enough containers to have stuff in, and keep them sorted. If I want to sort my stuff into groups, I need more than 1 safe (!) container. I am not putting my 2 handed collection into the wardrobe! That's all I can think off! Matth
  19. I'd agree that 3ds max is the tool to use, however: To get the student version you need to be a student or educator. So, that might pose a problem there.
  20. Intriguing.... I will have to research that. Perhaps it is due time for me to learn some scripting. There is just that much fun you can do with only modelling! Thanks myztikrice! Matth
  21. I'll try to bump this again, and see if any of you godlike scripters can give me some insight :)
  22. As described, it is quite doable. It will require a ton of scripting, but nothing impossible. Though something pops up. You want to take the whole map, clear out cities, and then use it? Well, it's still simple enough to do, but you will have to remove a lot of work to clean this alternate Skyrim. But it's all doable from what you want.
  23. Well, good luck I hope he replies to you as well...but there are quite a few rude mod authors who won't even read your messages...hopefully Chesko isn't like that. They are not rude. Well, in most cases not. The biggest mod authors don't answer because: 1. They so many messages, and they don't feel like going through them all. 2. They don't mod any more. 3. They mod other games, so these forums are a no-go. Simply branding them "rude" is rather ignorant. Just saying. That said, his mod is being updated often. So nr. 2 and 3 is gone. Then it all depends on if he really likes to spend time reading messages. Best of luck!
  24. Ideas: Staff: - Charge staff via soul gems. - Staff damage depends on your skills. In such a way that it does more damage than using the spell. - Make them boost certain spell/spell schools. So having a staff on you while casting with the other hand. - With use of some more advanced features, allow to actually bash peoples head in with the staff, then click a button and start casting. - Alternative have certain staffs not cast spell, but rather have a "gives destruction X% damage boost" Personally I'd love to wear a staff in one hand a spell in the other, and have the staff boost the damage. Just imagine at higher level and you get a certain, "legendary" staff that boost your damage over the roof. Seems nice. Scrolls: - Made via paper, a certain item similiar to the spell and a soul gem. You need to know the spell to make it. - Or Make it so you need paper and a soul gem, and you need to cast the spell on an activator. - Up the damage/usefullness. They should be a "last resort" thing and it should be more effective than what you can conjure yourself. - Perhaps mixing spells together somehow and forming unique scrolls? Fireball and some kind of necromancy spell = flaming undead. Just to pop some ideas up. Personally, I am not a scripter :p So this is out of my league. Though if somebody wants to do something with the staff part of this, I can always help making some new staffs. Cheers, Matth
  25. I could easily make a few whip models, but I got no idea how to overcome the animation and physics problem o it. It all seem like quite a lot. Though, find one who does, and I can supplement with whatever whip concept you can think off ;) Matth
