Eh, no, what you said there and what I said earlier got no connection at all -- not opposite. There is a very big different between: Having maxed out sneak. Having maxed out enchants. Having maxed out Alchemy. And: Using maxed out alchemy with maxed out enchanting, with maxed out sneak. Try to play Skyrim at 60+ where you use what is logical. I.E. A mage uses enchanting, yet does not enchant 100% less cost on 2 spell schools, and a warrior gets smithing, yets only upgrade gear he have allready found as loot. Neither is "self-nerfing" yourself, they are instead logical and not using everything you got aviliable. The end result is a game where you feel like a "demi god", yet get your ass handed when the revered dragons fly by. Damn sucker oneshot me with 350 health. I've tried multiple combat mods. And even if they put in some fun stuff like stances and what-not, the core is still there: Enemies either destroy you, or you destroy them. Either way you will click the same buttons. This is not a game with a in-depth combat system. The outcome of every combat mod is the same: You either get destroyed by a mudcrab, or you will whack on a dragon for half an hour. Wether I get the ability to do more damage, yet take more damage, is irrelevant. Now, I believe we are sidetracking a little, as this is outside the original threads intent. We both got our points across, and most likely agree on whatever we are talking about. I am not even sure by now. Hm... Matth

You do realize we have always had the ability to add crossbow, or any other kind of medieval weapon, into the game, right? It's just the matter of the animations. We don't got proffesional stunt artist and/or the equipment to do any good animations, thus not many took the time to try. With Dawnguard we got crossbow animations. That means you will most likely see a ton of crossbows models pumping out the coming months. For Rifles, we'd need a rifle animations and sound, something most of us won't bother with. Matth

I don't know, the word "selv-nerf" is a little weird, if you ask me. Because the only way you can "self-nerf", is if the game was planned to be a rushfest. It was not -- every TES game is about exploring. So instead of rushing, you loot. I.E. It's not really "self-nerfing" as you'd put it. And the other problem with combat mods for Skyrim, is that Skyrim isn't a combat game. As in, you can make monsters scale and/or make them twice as strong. In the end it does not matter: Either I get oneshot, I need to kite for half an hour, or I smack something on the head for 15 minutes. It isn't fun either way. Most combat improving mods simply scaled enemies, then give them more toys to play with. Perhaps even get some perks and use their abilities. Now, that does not make it more fun for anybody. Now you either get oneshot by a dragon, or any archer in general, or you need to wither down half a million hitpoints.

Early game? I'd take Vampire lord any day. Late game? As in 60+. It's about useless. The time it takes me to kill a skeleton, which takes 2 hit with my warhammer, is astoundingly long. I talk about 5 minute of spamming claws/Absorb health ability. That said, I believe mods will balance and tweak it to perfection in the coming months.

Get alteration up for 30% magic resistance and, I believe, 30% magic absorbtion. Next get the lord (?) stone for another boost. If you are also a breton, you get another boost. Oh, you are now about 80-85% magic resistance + 30% absobtion! That means: - Spell does 200 damage originally. - Spell does 30 damage before absorption. - Spell does under 20 damage, and you absorb a bit of it. Unless absorption counts before resist, at which you get more mana -- but you lose no more than 20 health either way. Frankly, I am not even a breton and I use Dragon Priests on master difficulty as mana batteries while I fire storm whatever there is in the dungeon. Also add on you can easily hit armor cap, which is late 500s I believe?, with no problems. Get full Ebony, upgrade it, and thanks to the same stone that gives you magic resist, you get a bonus to armor as well. A little pre-planning goes a long way!

I wouldn't even pay $10. Dawnguard, to me, just seems like an expansion that says "hey look, we have vampires!" Allthough I understand your way of thinking, that argument made me giggle a little. For you, Skyrim most likely was only a "Hey look, we have dragons!"? Most of us buy it for more than the content. Frankly, I can't wait to break Dawnguard apart and see what new options they have given us, as well as a chance to get some crossbow models done. I'd pay double for Dawnguard if it came to that. It contains both a good portion of houres of gameplay, new starsigns to play with, the vampire lord got some interesting things to it that can be further imporved and it gives us a solid crossbow animations.

Would be odd to be on 50% sale at release. Wait a few weeks, or untill a DLC pack arrives in a good while, and it most likely will be on sale.
-
Somwhat correct. However, "donations" are always allowed, and there is no way for anybody to check if money paid is a donation, or paid for a service. That said, one could also just pay for the 3d model/rig of the model, at which the person would put it into the CK himself. That way you never used any of Bethesdas asset or softwares, and can not get problems with it.

Non issues what-so-ever. Perhaps you got some corrupted files thanks to mods? Try not to be so quick at bashing Bethesda. You don't even know the problem of your crash. I'd wager it is your own fault, via installing too many mods and then removing them. Some files will be corrupt.
-
Both yes and no. The combat can be broken in your favour if you want too, but otherwise it's fine. I played 200 houres on my "adventurer spellsword" character. Currently level 68, explored about every part of the map I could before doing any quests. To make it more fun, I made a single rule: I am only able to craft gear I have previously found as loot, or bought. Now, I am level 68 and have only found 6 daedric items and 1 dragonscale item. I am still using Ebony boots! It makes exploring fun, the combat more balanced -- considering I was stuck with an ebony 1 handed before I got some Daedric artifacts and it gives you the awesome feeling when you find daedric items. My character also uses perfectly divided stats. Currently 350 magicka, 340 Health and 340 Stamina, or something close to that. Hosting about 85% less damage from spells, and absorbing 30% of it, with capped armor, makes me quite sturdy: Yet an ancient dragon have killed me in 2 bites. Now, playing like this magic becomes useless, since even using the master level spells, and wither 70% of my magicka, will not take more than 50% of a normal enemy and 5% of a dragon. As a warrior I got enough stuff enchanted to hit 202 damage on my daedric warhammer, together with 35 points of fire damage and 30 absorb health. Even then it takes me one hell of a time to take down any hard opponent. So, I am playing 200 houres in, can most likely do 200 more, I have barely touched quests, I am level 68 and maxed out most "hard" skills to level and the game is still quite hard -- even with double enchants on every piece of equipment. If people don't abuse a system, they won't get a problem. Most people seem to do the standard; - Get about 1k gold - Buy soul trap and tons of petty soul gems - Buy a weapon with soul trap, or banish, on - Gather soul gems with soul trap, mostly mud crabs and critters around Whiterun - Make iron daggers and enchant them, earning craptons of money and a quick 100 enchanting and smithing * Mages get 100% less destruction cost, and powerlevel destruction. * Warriors get 25% increase weapon damage on as many pieces as possible. ** alternate the player makes some weakish alchemy potions to loop for more power. That kills both the game and fun of exploring. Of course it is not fun to go to your first dungeon, finding maybe Orcish gear at best, when you got fully enchanted top end daedric gear. Now, to the OP: Warrior: Strongest end game ( 40+ ), usually packs a lot of armor and can survive easier, it's awesome to stab something with a sword finisher. Mage: Strongest mid game ( 20-40), got no prolems taking down packs of enemies, due to AOE abilities, if you don't got some health, ancient/elder dragons can, and will, oneshot finisher you, but nothing is more fun than blasting a room full of fireballs. Personally, I say play a spellsword. It's versitile, and you get the strength of both sides. You can blast your enemies far away with fireballs, then rush in and poke them to death. Matth

Did you not see the other thread about this on the front page? Or the fact about 50% of the threads on the front page got a post of that in it? Or the fact Steam have been advertising it hours before we could buy it? I am sorry, but this is more spam than anything.

It's 10-20 hour. Also, if you are in such an hard economic time, I suggest not playing games. At least not complain to Bethesda after they spend months on a DLC, and actually wants a little money for it.
-
Well, it's on steam now. Can we all calm down with future doomsday theories? Please?
-
Like their terrorist plan to blow up the world? Seriously, perhaps they are improving a bugfull DLC? Did that ever cross your mind? Since you do realize the PC version requires a lot more work than the Xbox versions, and last time they released something to PS3 it was a bugfest. Perhaps they want to avoid another PR shitstorm? Is it that hard to be optimistic?
-
Which is exactly what I have said all along. You are not allowed to port anything. However, the theory in question is not a port, it's a script. It's the same kind of mod that they made for Fallout 3 and new vegas -- the games are linekd together by a script, but it does not port anything. It simply starts up the second game when you trigger certain conditions, and use a script to make the character similar in each game. That is in the greyzone. It is not a port, and you need both games installed. You also do not tamper with any files, only look and play certain music files when certain conditions is met. It does not break the copyright, but it does use a cheesy piece of code. I am simply not familar with how Bethesda, or the nexus, looks at these cheesy loopholes. I'd take a bet they are allowed by Bethesda, allthough disliked, and most likely banned on the nexus. That is, however, only a guess on my part and I do not wish to speak too much of what I do not know. Giving wrong information is a lot worse than giving none. Matth
-
That is in a greyzone. In theory you don't port anything, since you only set a script to find the original file from the original game and use the asset. However, it is disliked by Bethesda, and at worse could be banned from being up on the nexus. More than that I am not sure, since that topic is in the greyzone. I guess you'd have to talk to the moderators here about what they allow to be uploaded to the nexus, and perhaps ask Bethesda/somebody who have asked Bethesda about it. Matth
-
Don't worry about it. No harm done :) It's a common thing for non-modders not to know it. We modders, or modeller in my case, live and breath by the copyright law everytime we do any work. So we are familiar with it -- or atleast we should be. Again I suggest you do some basic reading, and perhaps ask the community how to change/add sound files. This would require that you had both Skyrim and Morrowind installed, and most likely got the .BSA files unpacked for Morrowind. Other than that, I do not know how to do it. Not many people will do requests, but if you ask specific and good questions, you get an answer in no time! Matth

There are multiple reasons why. Let me start with the glaring obvious ones: A) Bethesda got the source code, we do not. Hence they can edit stuff we dream we can edit, and do changes that we all want. I.E. New starsign to be used for perks. B) Bethesda got proffesional artists and coders working for them. Meaning the models, and new animation, are all at the same level as the rest of Skyrim. Not below, or sicly above -- as it will be in the future, which is common for modders. C) The DLC gives us a lot more to play with. It gives rossbow animations, meaning we don't need to look for any decent animators like Saidenstorm for stuff like that. It also gives 2 new perk trees, independant of the oriignal ones. If they play this clever, they give us the option to do the same. Can you imagine the mods that can be made with all new perk trees, not stealing from the original ones? And frankly, I have yet to see a mod from Bethesda that really dissapointed me. Some of them, like a good portion of the Oblivion DLCs, were surpased by mods long before they were released. However, by themself they were good enough for the small cost, and we then got even better stuff. Shivering Isles, for instance, was a ton of fun. So I say: People should stop doomsday marking Bethesda and the Microsoft deal, and instead give them some faith. Then they should get the DLC when it comes out, if they actually enjoy the theme of it, and be happy. And frankly, I will not be dissapointed with crossbow animations. It simlply motivates me more to start modelling crossbow and Demon Hunter-ish kind of character for Skyrim. Perhaps it is just me, but is everybody pessimistic these days? Where is the optimism? Matth

We are not allowed to make mods that takes asset from previous, or future, TES game into another installement of a TES game. It's no different if it is a piece of code, a model or the soundfiles. It all goes under the copyright law, and rule given to us by Bethesda. The reason are multiple, and there are billions of threads about it. In short, it's because the asset you want might not be made by Bethesda or any sister company, and is bought. Hence they are prohibited by law to not allow their playerbase to do what they want with the files. That includes porting from Game X to Y, even if the games are part of a serie by the same developer and publisher. If you really want the music, you must do it yourself. You are within legal ground if you do it yourself and never release the mod on the internet, or give it away to friends for that matter. For that, you should do some research and ask the right questions. Matth

Both yes and no. Generally if you mess up, it can be fixed by getting the right files back from Skyrimnexus.com. Even then most mistakes are fixed by removing your mod of conflict. If that fails, you simply reinstall Skyrim. It will not affect your saves, which is located in a different location. If you are a little paranoid about it, take a backup of your save folder. Not many mistakes can break your game more than that, exept save game corruption and too big file size. At which your best bet is to start over, and rather use the console to give you the same levels/items you had on previous gameplay. Matth

Don't put words into my mouth. I am neither a fanboy, nor angry. Did It come over as angry? Would it lighten the mood if I added unnecessary smileys? You seem like an angry person, dismissing my post as a rant right of the bat. I was merely getting my point over by knocking your point out. If anything, it was meant humorous. I'd trust you on that, if you got some proof on "The goverment(Game developer) is holding alien secrets(DLCs) away from us!". I will TL;DR it simply: Assuming is never good. Your post was a negative comment about how game developer is holding stuff from you. Stuff you are not entitled to get. While the fact is we do not know, and using common sense itself I'd wager they they are fixing the DLC for us, not keeping it from us. As you said yourself, nobody earns on that. If you feel like this is another rant, then I am sorry. I will try to add more smileys, to express how this is all more humorous than anything. You simply show a very human way of thinking, which I find very amusing. :teehee: Matth

Port Oblivion Armor Mod Into Skyrim, POSSIBLE?
Matth85 replied to Eil17's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
It is quite possible to port it over, yes. However, you are asking the wrong people. Ask the author of the mod to port it, or at least give permission for others to port it over. Otherwise we are bound by law, yes law -- not just rules, to not port it over. So here are your options: A) PM the author and ask if s/he can be so kindly to port the asset over to Skyrim and release it. B) PM the author and get permission to port it. Take a picture of it, or copy/paste the message, and show it to a willing modder- C) Get somebody to model the model from scratch. D) Do it yourself, after doing B). E) Play Oblivion :whistling: Matth -
And the playerbase is assuming more and more :turned: You got no proof thay this is a "delayed release for no reason". Assuming wildy is never, NEVER, a good thing. So, since you assume, may I assume as well? I will let you hear my wild theory, which I made up right now: Dawnguard was rushed for the Xbox, so they could get their 30 days early release. This gave Bethesda Beta testers -- Testers that paid them for testing it. Then they started cleaning up, and in 30 days they were close to it. However, they also had another problem to fight, beside breaking half the game as they do every patch: Make it as mod-friendly as possible. To not ruin half the mods out there. This made them focus a lot of energy on that, delaying the release date. Now, that is just as likely as they are delaying for no reason, or terrorists have stolen the Dawnguard source code, or UFOs got Todd and is blackmailing Bethesda to not release Dawnguard to PC and PS3, or else they will take him away to the core of Jupiter, where they plan a "mass destruction of PC and PS3 Expansions/DLCs" nuke, and turn him into a zomie. Yeah, can we stop this now and just wait? And stop the assuming that game developers are evil people that does not release stuff because they personally hate you? *sigh* Matth
-
Partly wrong. If a lore/story developer says it is correct, and is backed up by their own lore, then it most likely is. If a 3d modeller comes in and tells you "Yo brah! Alduin is my *censored*!", you would do bad listening to him over the given lore/common sense/story developers. When a fantasy universe grows big enough, developers lose controll over what is "right" and "wrong" themself, and is in theory limited to the lore they build. Of course, some games have shown to crash that, but the same games also got burned for it.

Which could be true: If we got paid to mod, and didn't need to take time from other things to do it. Frankly, your comment is rather out of place and can be quite provocative. You should think before you post, it will ensure the forum is a cleaner place, and it will keep the community solid. Now, for the topic. Modding is a weird thing in itself. At least modding with 3d modelling. One might have a million ideas, but you are then limited by your own skill level and free time. You also are limited by the game engine, and script language. Lastly you are limited by your own motivation. As a 3d modeller I can tell you one thing, which is true for every 3d artist and probably most modders: We got more unfinished/Half done mods/models than finished one. Why? If you start to lose motivation, and you only hit a single roadbump, you most likely leave the project. Modders who quit, quit because they either: A) Realize this hobby will not help their future, or help them today, in any way. It takes time. Just like gaming in general does. B) Works kill their motvation, a demanding community kills the rest. C) The project takes too long, and they now have 40 new projects that looks more fun to them. Frankly, modders are not the problem here. It's the users who demand, the people who feel entitled to everything -- yes, the, and I quote, "Stuck up children of the privileged" people. The people who will be negative to a new modders new mod, who will crush perfectly doable ideas by being very pesimistic and short sighted and finally the people who feel entitled to getting stuff done. You know, the people who demand a mod/model from someone. The ones that thinks "Yeah, he agreed to help us out on our mod. Of course he is going to make us X stuff in Y time!". Can you really blame modders quitting? If you hit a roadbump hard enough, and get nothing but pessimistic negativity your way, of course you won't go on. You will give up. It's how the world works. TL;DR: Blame the users, not the modders. We got a life outside modding too, and we do not get paid to spend our time doing this. As long as we do it for free, we make the decisions wether to keep going or not, not "you". Cheers, Matth
