  1. finally solved it for the time being. defragmented again, got the latest c++ redist, deleted EVERYTHING vortex related, reinstalled vortex with the default install location. everything seems to be working at a reasonable speed. thanks for all the advice.
  2. my machine has an intel i7 7700k, 16gb ram, geforce 1060, has windows 10 running off the internal hdd and all the gaming/vortex related things running off the ssd the only things that run on startup are expressvpn, my pc's audiomanager, and the microsoft rundll thing. I regularly turn my pc off when i am done using it and restart it at least once weekly i actually defragged a few days ago since this was becoming an issue and i wanted to rule out everything that i could think of before coming here. There was one other issue i was having but since the slowdown it fell to the wayside, for whatever reason i couldn't get vortex to get permissions to modify files on the ssd for skyrim only. it would spam 6 identical messages about "vortex_canary" not having permissions and how i could press a button to give it said permissions. this would fail every time and it would end up spamming said messages about 5 minutes later regardless of if i gave permissions or not. fallout 4 did not do this despite being in the exact same location with the exact same setup.
  3. im trying to run them from an internal SSD. strange thing is how it wasnt an issue a few months ago when i was using it to play fallout 4, but for whatever reason now it just chugs. And i did check the processes but nothing stood out as being responsible. I closed most things to try and speed things along but all i can really say at this point is that vortex does not like my hardware.
  4. sure its gotta be something else despite the fact that it only happens with vortex and nothing else and immediately stops upon uninstalling it.
  5. the drive isnt getting full and no it doesnt run at startup. it shouldnt affect anything while not running but for whatever reason it does. Ive tried using MO2 and that works (even though i hate it) without slowing my computer. Once i open vortex, it doesnt matter if i close it or not, the whole pc just slows to a crawl. I've even tried restarting after the slowdowns but it persists even through a full shutdown. I have 0 idea as to how or why it happens but after i uninstall vortex and restart things return to normal speed.
  6. I have an HDD but the game and vortex are not on it, 16gb ram, and unfortunately still a 1060. It was working fine for a long time but for whatever reason vortex has decided to slow everything to a crawl now. Strange thing is that nothing is really being used when everything slows down. At most i was seeing 10% cpu usage and nothing else.
  7. For whatever reason whenever I install vortex it lags everything even when not running. I've done several uninstalls and reinstalls of it and can say with certainty that it is vortex doing it. I have no idea what it could possibly be doing or how it is doing so but every single time i have vortex on my computer, everything grinds to a halt. Webpages take minutes to open, Steam takes years to launch, the desktop and file explorer crash constantly. It doesn't make any sense and only happens with vortex so im hoping someone could tell me what it could be doing to my comp. to cause that. It did not do this previously and i have no idea what might have changed.
