To me this sounds like the bone headed creation club updates that Bethesada would put out that would make out current copy of SKSE useless and make all of out save games useless crap unless we figured out how to undo the "improvements" Bethesda forced down our throats. Of course, if my interpretation is wrong here, I'll be the first, and the happiest to admit it. Of course, if I am right in my interpretation ( really hope that I am not) I'm not blaming anyone at Nexus for this, they didn't have anything to do with this, they're just the messengers here.

Also, you can continue to purchase these games through Steam et al., and avoid the modding headaches associated with an Xbox/Windows store purchase.
Pickysaurus wrote: I'm not really sure what you're upset about here? The games are already out on Game Pass and it does not have any kind of impact on Steam/GOG installs. It's just another option for people who want to play these games. If you're worried about game updates causing problems in your setup there are plenty of guides/tools around to prevent that or back up your current version.

Or can current version of Skyrim SE, be modded and played the old fashion way, that we do now?
If all futured copies sold, only are available with MS GamePass, (no new sales on Steam, etc) it will be a shot in front of the baug to the community, but I do belive old-fashioned Skyrim (and Oldrim) will survive.
Edit: Answered by others in thread. "My" Skyrim will not change. :) So moral is; Stay away from MS GamePass.
Fyrcynn wrote: Might be a naive question, but does this even impact that many people? I'd think Steam is by far the larger platform with Microsoft's barely being used. Anyone who'd experience the joys Windows Live would stay away from them as a rule.

What if Microsoft only allow the future of Bethesda games on Game Pass?
    Then..
What if Microsoft close the holes and disallow modding/manipulation of their content?
    Then...
What if Microsoft then provide a range of customisable features... for a price?

Oh hell, I'm glad I'm old and senile so's not to have to suffer 'naked' games for too long.

Honestly, I'm totally unfamiliar with console games or the mechanics of modding them on console; I've used PC based games mods forever, so to me it was an entirely new area for me. I have learned that if you don't know it's best to admit it and ask for some help. So thank you all for putting my mind at rest, it's most appreciated. :)
P.S. Sorry for the mini freak out there. I had a gut reaction to seeing all of my favorite games being added to a Microsoft service I was unfamiliar with and leaped before I looked.

PancakeGoon wrote: Well, Game Pass is on PC as well, and is probably the vast majority of those GamePass Reddit threads.

Unfortunately, gaming has come to the point where you almost need a dedicated Launcher Drive in order to play all the games you want on your PC. Because of this, and M$ offering that 3-Months of 'GamePass for PC' for only $0.99, I grabbed it as a way to play & try games that I never could have otherwise afforded, especially all together, essentially for "free" (or a measly entry fee, in the grand scheme) and for that I'm thankful.

Unfortunately, this is still Microsoft and it has been recently riddled with different issues and annoyances, like the topic of this post. Also, super inconsistent compatibility problems, like these new Bethesda games not being able to run in Fullscreen without being surrounded by a huge grey box. Or, for some reason, no native controller support (how friggin' hard is it to patch in support for YOUR OWN controllers, on a game that's been successfully ported ON YOUR OS for years, after you just BOUGHT THE ENTIRE DEVELOPER & THEIR PARENTR COMPANY!? Get it together for Talos' sake...). Or this god awful launcher we're forced to use with NO graphics settings (other than Resolution, generic Low-Ultra "Quality" presets, and 2 types of AA, and On/Off parameters for pretty important settings, etc.). On a PC game...through their PC App.

Actually, I want my dollar back, Bill.

It's free. What exactly do you have to lose? Even if Epic closes (they won't-Steam has pissed off way too many game designers) you haven't lost any money and you know whether or not you liked it enough to buy it on Steam.
  3. It has occurred to me many times that given his knowledge of the Voice and killing the High King with a Thu'um Ulric should have called himself the Dragonborn in an attempt to win more Nords to his cause. And why hasn't he (after discovering that you are the true Dragonborn) used you against the Empire by threatening to start a potential upheaval in Cyrodiil by naming you as the Dragonborn and true inheritor of the Empire? Also why haven't a few less than honorable individuals tried to make a profit using the Dragonborn title?

I see this as something Bethesda should have addressed in the vanilla game and would like to see a mod that fixes these missed opportunities.

  4. It would be nice to be able to tell scribes or trainees to wait when you're not quite ready to take them to whatever location has been assigned to their radiant quests but also don't want to drag them around with you. For trainees this isn't so bad because as children they are unkillable. I find them to be extremely annoying though. It becomes more problematic with the scribes because they are marked as non-essential and you fail the quest if they get themselves killed out chasing a raider.

  5. Is it possible to modify the quest journal to put the quest with the most recently completed quest objective at the top of the list. This is the way Skyrim SE and FNV handle it. It's been awhile since I played FO3 so I don't remember if it does.

I know that it's not all that hard to scroll the list but it does get annoying if the quest you are working on was received earlier and haven't been able to work on. For example when Haylen's quartermaster quests, the scribe quests for Quinlan, and the trainee quests for Kells send you to Nuka World or Far Harbor when those DLCs haven't even started yet.

Skyrim is getting pretty boring after all these years. Still love it though but it's time. Which is the best to start with? Can I just skip FO4? I'm not a modder. Don't have the patients nor the skills. I can place stuff with Jaxonx but even that rattles me at times. Grrr...My hat is definitely off to ALL of you! Kudos for all you do! Thankfully I have a decent rig because I love mods..:) Godspeed...R/
KimJongUninstall wrote: Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4 don't have any connecting story, so you can play them in any order you'd like. However, I suggest starting with New Vegas or 3, then playing 4. If you've played 3 already, New Vegas will feel familiar to you in terms of gameplay, just much more polished. New Vegas is definitely the strongest of the three in terms of story, however Fallout 4 definitely benefits from the slightly updated engine to give the gunplay a much better feel. I still prefer New Vegas after all these years, and have replayed it numerous times. It is also wise to purchase the Ultimate Edition of New Vegas and the GOTY Edition of 4, just to save you the hassle of purchasing the DLC (they go on sale on steam fairly often). I do also suggest playing both games vanilla before attempting to install mods of any kind, outside maybe an unofficial patch mod. Good luck with the games, and hope you enjoy New Vegas as much as I have!

Fallout 3 then New Vegas just because FO3 starts in 2277 and FNV starts in 2281. FO3 is fairly linear but it does have some outstanding DLCs. FNV's story line is better, much more diverse and much more lore-friendly. And it has the best DLCs one of which helps explain where all of the guns and non-stale ammo (in the NCR and the Mojave any way) is coming from.

And I would recommend playing Fallout 4 at least once just for the DLC. You can quit anytime after you've played them and not really feel like you've missed something. I would wait until it goes on sale though.

Say what you like about Bethesda and Obsidian but they both do create awesome downloadable content. Better than the main games even. If Bethesda hasn't completely killed the franchise with FO76, they should consider writing the main story of the next game like it was a DLC for one of the prior stories and add back in consequences for antisocial behavior. What fun is playing an evil character if it doesn't make a single difference?
  7. i have some 5.25 floppy disks in a box in my attic. does vortex support that medium?

    No?

    worst. program. ever.

Does that mean I won't be able to use any of the code I've wriiten in COBOL and stored on reel-to-reel tape that I keep in the cold vault in my basement? Bummer days, man.

  8. what would you gain from drag/drop versus doing exactly the same thing by setting rules? you'll have to forgive me, but i don't see any benefit.

if you think that your load order is wrong - and mod x needs to load after mod y - and you want to do that with drag and drop - but you can do exactly the same by setting a rule or using a group - what is the difference?

well, for me the difference is this - with drag and drop you have no idea, at first glance, why mod x is loading after mod y - because drag and drop would not leave any trace. it's simply dragged mod x and mod y into a specific position with no documentation as to why.

if you have a rule that specifically says mod x needs to load after mod y - and then you find that this is in fact, incorrect - all you need to do is remove the rule, sort and redeploy. at that point, all the work is done for you. mod x and mod y will revert to their original position in the load order.

if you drag and drop - are you aware where you dragged your mod from if you come to put it back days/weeks/months later?

Will I remember where I dragged it from? Almost certainly not. But if I set the rule correctly I won't have to. But just in case I might need to know at a later date, I can write a note in the mod info pane.

I would be only be using the drag-and-drop to get close enough to where it should be to help me figure out what the rule should be without having to test each mod/plugin until I find what I need. Once the rule is set, I can deploy it and resort so that Vortex places it where it needs to be.

I am not trying to subvert the developers intended usage (though I am sure others would but I really don't give a flying fig what they do). I just want to narrow down potential conflicts until I can find the rule I need to make for my particular needs.

I don't want to try and drag everything to the bottom of my load order. It is lazy and inefficient. And impossible. Not everything can be the last plugin loaded. If you can tell me a better way to locate the conflicts that LOOT seems to be unable to find sometimes, I would be happy to use it.

I am not trying to argue with you. I just want to clarify my position and seem to be doing a horrible job. If there is a more recent tutorial video than Gopher's I will be happy to watch it because I am obviously missing something and would like to rectify that.

  9. As stated above I am perfectly happy to admit it may be a lack of understanding on my part. I am pretty sure that I've read those pages back in March or April when Vortex was in alpha and therefore not quite feature complete.

I will verify when I am able to replace my PC--lightning strike blew out four computers, five monitors, one tv and their associated surge protectors and backup power supplies. I am only holding on to my sanity by using a crappy little tablet that I was only using for my ebooks.

  10. that topic has been beaten to death.

if you want to override the loot api use groups or specific load before/load after rules and hey presto - you can manipulate your load order any way you like. i do this with a couple of mods that i want in a particular point in my load order - its easy.

Being beaten to death does not make it an invalid topic. Setting rules alone is sometimes just not quite good enough. I realize that some of my problems may just be my not quite understanding how this system works. Don't get me wrong, I actually like this mod manager. I like how it lets me know exactly which mods are in conflict. I don't particularly mind setting the rules. What I do mind is the process of trying to find out HOW to set the rules for your particular set-up in the first place. There are conflicts that LOOT sorting alone will not catch. For example what if it is not a case of one file directly overwriting another file of the same name? What if it is a single rule within a file that overwrites a rule in a theoretically unrelated file. It has been my experience that some body mods make changes both male and female bodies when it is only related to male or female body type but not both. This in and of itself is not beyond being able to correct through the use of rules but you still need to find this conflict. Not too long ago I had to spend the equivalent of a full day trying to locate such an error in a very long list of mods. (Please don't ask me what the mods were. I don't remember right off the top of my head and can't go through the mod list right this second just to find them. The game was Skyrim.)

Even the LOOT page says that it doesn't always give the best load order

  11. I love zzjay's mods and I can't play without some of them. In fact, I like to use so many of the forge-able ones that my forged item list is too long. I actually need a mod that will allow me to remove some of the vanilla items that I will never make. I will probably end up learning to mod myself just to make that mod.
  12. This would be my first mod so please bear with me.

How do I overhaul the amounts of bottle caps available as loot? I would like to have LESS bottle caps available at all. I would also like to have less available ammo to loot. (The raiders have to use their ammo... why would they have so much on hand?) This would have the net effect IMHO of making the choices about how you spend your caps more important. Weapons/ammo or the luxury accommodations of beautiful downtown Diamond City?

  13. I would prefer an option to get a cup with the nexus logo having a game name overlaid in some sort of script. My personal favorites would be any of the Fallout or Elder Scrolls games. I would also consider offering a t-shirt of one of the stores added by mods (I mean that's what you come to the Nexus for right?) with the Nexus logo in place of the store name and an author credit under the picture.
