The description of Morthar (sp?) in the in-game book I read sounds exactly like the other city in LOTR, The city built into the side of a mountain which tremendous walls where an epic battle occurred. Think it was the 3rd book... But yeah Whiterun definitely seems like Rohan, minus the horse culture. Minus Tirith i believe
