  1. Has anyone checked to see how many MAs are intending to leave Nexus? Personally, I hope that not may of you make the decision to leave - for purely selfish reasons, which I will explain. Although I am 71, I am not dead (yet :) ). I first became acquainted with computers in the early 1980s, when I was put in charge of a Data General Nova minicomputer at the typesetting firm I worked at. It was flying by seat-of-the-pants stuff back then. That initial experience piqued my interest in computing, and over the years I have had, roughly in order, Sinclair ZX81, BBC Micro, Commodore Amiga, and then PCs, starting with Windows 3.0 to my present PC running Windows 11 (I'm in the Windows Insider Programme). So, for well over two decades I've been using PCs running Windows, because early on I saw that the final contenders in the personal computer "wars" would be (what were then called) IBM-PC "clones" and Apple's various PCs, which culminated in a long line of Macintoshes. I'm definitely a creature of habit! And for all of the time that I've had a personal computer of one sort or another, I've also been a gamer, beginning with typing the code (usually Basic) for a game into a machine, to loading games from floppy disks to DVD ROMS, to downloading games via the internet. The latter almost exclusively from Steam, where I've been a member for longer than I care to remember. Steam is my "home" for games, and through Steam I discovered the joys of adding mods to games, and hence, Nexus became my "home" for mods. In both places, I feel comfortable; I am very familiar with them, and feel welcomed. It pains me not a little to see what is happening here. I do agree that matters could have been handled much more judiciously, and perhaps still could be. I certainly hope so. I think that what many if not most MAs do is nothing short of remarkable, and deserving of respect, at the very least. Whatever transpires in the coming weeks and months, my hope is that there will be an amicable resolution that is to everyone's satisfaction, realizing that this can only happen if we work together in good faith. Best regards to all. Thank you for reading.
  2. In a now-locked topic I wrote this: "Hello mod authors, I am a 71-year-old sometime gamer who loves mods and what they bring to my enjoyment of the games I play, although I have only added mods to Fallout 3 and 4, Fallout New Vegas, and a couple of Elder Scrolls games (thank you for those!). My reason for writing is this: adding mods to any game can be a messy and harrowing experience, and one I don't relish, and is the reason I often leave a broken game alone for months at a time before mustering my declining mental faculties to start all over again, by reinstalling my game, etc. So, I think collections would be a godsend for folks like me, and something I would be willing to pay for in cold hard cash. So, please consider this when deciding whether to opt in to collections or not. Thank you for all that you do." From the comments that followed I realise that I didn't express myself very well. By saying I would be (and am) willing to pay for the convenience of collections, I meant that to imply that I would be willing to pay the authors of the mods in that collection, as well as those who are curating and maintaining those collections. Here's why: Some time ago I downloaded a mod pack via Wabbajack for Fallout 4. The result was such a bad experience that after playing FO4 for a few months I just gave up and deleted the mod pack, reinstalled FO4, and haven't played it since. Instead, I've been playing a modded version of FONV and thoroughly enjoying it, but only after spending innumerable hours downloading each mod and reading each mod's instructions, arranging and rearranging things and getting them to play nice with each other and the base game - hours I won't bother wasting again. Creating mod packs seems a logical next step for a site like this and I'd like to see it succeed, but only if the authors of the mods being considered for a pack are brought along with the creation and maintenance of the pack and adequately remunerated for their work. Thank you for reading.
  3. I apologise if this has been covered elsewhere, or if it doesn't make sense... In Vortex, one of my mods is flagged as missing a Master. I looked for the master on the Nexus and found a mod that contains the Master I need, among other items. I installed the mod, but found that the part (Master) I need was not installed. I don't actually need or want all of this mod, but only one part of it. How can I achieve this in Vortex? P.S. I'm running the very latest Vortex, running on a PC on which all software, including Windows 10 Professional, is kept up-to-date. Any help very much appreciated. Michieux
  4. Exceedingly sorry for this late reply. Yes, I'm the only user of the PC and have all rights. That wasn't the problem. It turned out to be my antivirus software, in my case, Kaspersky, but I remember having had the same issue crop up often with ZoneAlarm before I switched to Kaspersky. In fact, just about every time I've had a software problem it's been the AV causing it. But you wouldn't know it from the Windows 10 error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Always the same message, always the same cause. So if anyone experiences this problem and gets a similar Win 10 error message, it's probably a good idea to check if your AV software is blocking the program you've just installed and are running for the first time. Do this before anything else -- it can save a lot of head and heartaches. Thanks for reading. Michieux
  5. When I try to run Updated_Unofficial_Fallout3_Patch-19122-2-1, I get a Windows (10) error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I have no problem running/installing other programs from this folder, so I don't know why I'm getting this error. Also, the file size shown on Nexus is 214,741kb, but on my disk it is 214,742kb. When I check 'properties' for the file, it gives the size as: 209 MB (219,895,012 bytes) and the size on disk as: 209 MB (219,897,856 bytes). Any ideas? Any help appreciated. M.
