You can go to the mod author's profile page, and it will show the last time the Mod Author was active. If you're in luck, it will be a very recent date, like today or yesterday, otherwise, if it's like 2015, then... I left a message just in case. But yeah I wrote "a year ago" because I checked and the last time he was only was January. It's a real shame because I got it working in vr :sad:

So there is a mod I would like to port to SE/VR. But the author left about a year ago and left the following message: "I have decided to leave modding. That doesn't mean you can use my files as you see fit. If you want to make changes to my files and upload them somewhere for public scrutiny you have to have my EXPLICIT permission." Does this mean his mod is (probably) for ever lost?
