I think they made the color of the environment that way so that all players can accommodate to it. To those advance players or looking for some more realism, the use of mods comes into play.

That was unfortunate, and yes, a mod that would revive/respawn NPCs every week/month would be good. Because sometimes I just wanna smash an NPCs face. :D
