I got a GTX 980 recently, for about $550. That and I ended up buying a used H100 for my I5 2500k, so I can OC it more. I had a cooler master hyper 212+ on it before. It was the only upgrade my PC really needed. Now I'm good for another 2-3 years. The 980 is a freaking BEAST. Modded skyrim all the way, stays pegged at 60fps like all the time. Its not even close to using all my GPU. A 970 would probably do the same thing, because a 980 just totally crushes modded skyrim, even at 1440p.
And FYI, I doubt you could get $700 for a 780TI, when the 980 is just a better card because its got more overclocking headroom, and can handily beat a 780TI when you start OCing GPUs. Also the 980 is a better card for 4k resolution. So its more future proof than the 780TI is.

You know when most of us think "rockets" we think BIG boom. Like high explosives kinda boom enough to completely obliterate a house or something.
But this is the damage those Hamas rockets do in reality:
http://joequinn.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/palestinian_rocket.jpg
This is barely a scratch on the pavement. I've seen fireworks mortar tubes get knocked over and leave damage similar to that on the pavement.....These are no more than glorified bottle rockets..... Is retaliating with 500 lb high explosive ordinance against schools, hospitals, refugee facilities and killing civilians really justified? Does anyone seriously wanna claim this is imminent danger? Its not like they're launching Tomahawk Cruise missiles.
As far as I'm concerned the Israeli government are just as big of terrorists as Hamas. They're isolating an entire people behind a wall, and engaging in retaliation against non combatants which is considered under the Geneva convention to be a war crime.
We shouldn't be giving any foreign aid to any of these countries in the middle east, including Israel. I don't even know why we're giving them weapons. What the hell do they give us in return? We got no obligation to help the Israelis. They're gonna end up picking a fight with Iran by doing something incredibly stupid like trying to bomb a nuclear reactor, and I say they should duke it out on their own.
-
I checked out the SCs, and the very first thing I see is a stereotypical "fetch quest" in progress. That will be a huge turn off for a lot of people.
-
I haven't seen one SINGLE shred of evidence from a neutral source that proves that Hamas has stored weapons in schools, hospitals, UN facilities. Israel's claims of weapons stored in UN facilities were vehemently denied by the UN. When there are dead children laying around blown to bits, they better well be able to prove their claims beyond a reasonable doubt. And that means no less than 100% irrefutable evidence to back up their claims. And even if there were, I don't think that is justification for them to murder civilians just because those civilians occupy a building that Hamas stored weapons in. Are they too chicken **** to actually sends some troops to procure the weapons rather than drop bombs? Or would they rather blow Palestinian kids to bits by the dozens to hundreds rather than risk the neck of one of their own? If anyone is overreacting here its the Israeli government. I'm not suggesting that they shouldn't fight back, or that its not within their rights to do so, but they're using extremely unnecessary force without any regards to civilian casualties. I'm sick of the neocons thinking Israel can't do anything wrong. And Fox News is partisan pro-Israel, so much for "fair and balanced" huh? Its nothing but total and complete sucking up. The Palestinian people have honestly been treated like garbage, 2nd class citizens by the Israeli government, and part of me can't really blame them for having a desire to fight back against their oppressors.

Justice is usually imposed by the legal system of society toward someone who breaks a law, and revenge is usually carried out by an individual as a way to cope with a personal grievance against another.

I got crossfire 7970s, both OC'd by about 15%, and they eat up skyrim and crap it out.
You could run the lighter versions of most of the ENB packs and get 60fps with just one 7970, but you'll get dips in the 40s-50s in spots.
I think the closest new GPU to a 7970 is an R9 280, with maybe the 280 being slightly better.
I used to have x2 6950s (unlocked to 6970s), and quite honestly I got nearly the same performance with a single 7970 as I did with crossfire 6970s. 2gbs of Vram can be a bottleneck depending on which mods you use. Normally 2 6970s are 30% better than a single 7970, just not in modded skyrim.
If you hit a Vram bottleneck, you'll know it. They're the biggest possible FPS tanks. Like dropping from 60fps down to 25-30 instantly. I ran into such spots in the swamp outside Solitude. With a 7970 that had 3gbs of Vram instead of 2 with the 6970s I didn't run into that. You could try scaling the textures back from 2k to 1k, or scaling back some of mods that improve effects like water, etc. There is a special set of circumstances going on in the swamp area with mods that makes the FPS tank there with 2gbs of Vram. A combination of the textures, water, water effects, and fog that make 2gbs of Vram cry.

Personality isn't that crucial for me as long as they don't frequntly whine/complain and aren't the happy go lucky types.
Attractiveness to me seems to be based mostly on the face. A nice looking face with semetrical proportions, and nose/ears that aren't too big is preferable. If you got a nose that looks like the beak of a toucan, or a pig snout, then I don't really care about your personality. I admit to being shallow.
I don't care how rich someone is, so at least I'm not shallow in that sorta way.

The whole "everyone under one flag" and a "world with no borders" thing simply isn't gonna work. There are too many people with too many differences and too many problems for humanity to ever unilaterally co-exist with each other. We're a warlike species by nature. Because we evolved from apes who are violent, territorial, and greedy.
-
Too little - too late for the Xbone. They started off by initiating complete PR suicide. And everyone who is even somewhat familiar with the new systems knows the PS4 is more powerful, and was also $100 cheaper!! MS is gonna have to drop the Xbone to about $100 cheaper than the PS4 just due to the reputation of the PS4 being the superior system. Neither system really has exclusives that are all that impressive IMO. Most of the games people wanna play are the multiplat games.

You might not be able to ban lobbyists, but you can certainly limit their monetary influence on policy.
-
Thanks for the tips, although I already am trying to learn some stuff and make a prototype of the game. Just code some basic things. :smile:Also, I'm not asking for donations in money, I'm asking for donations in skill.
Not asking for monetary donations?
I'm thinking either kickstarter(unlikely), or donations. The most likely route is trying to use not that much money. I mean if we make our own game engine, we already don't need that much. What else to pay for? Does steam charge? I know I'm kind of an idiot on this subject. I would appreciate a few pointers, if you have time. Also do you have any freaking clue what all is involved in making a game engine? Do you know why most developers just reuse an existing engine for their games? Because its cheaper than making a new one.
If you're aiming for a graphics heavy game, then Cryengine 3 would be perfect. If you're aiming for an engine that a lot of people here might be familiar with then the Gamebyro engine would be perfect.
Here is an example of a small dev team that has their act together can accomplish:
http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1349036-kingdom-come-deliverance/
Kickstarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1294225970/kingdom-come-deliverance
Take note of how they're advertising their game, and what you're going to need to be able to have to show before people would even consider donating money. If you aren't prepared to do at least this much then you should drop the idea right now.
And you still haven't explained what your credentials are, how much experience & education, show some examples of mods/projects you worked on, etc. If you're still a kid in HS, then I'd take the idea and put it on a shelf somewhere until you've gotten your degree in Computer Science, and have worked a few years in the industry. None of those guys working on Kingdom Come Deliverance are scrubs, they're all highly skilled and experienced.
The proper way to advertise your credentials (if you got any):
My name is "Insert name" I got 10 years experience in C++, and I worked on "insert projects here":
"Post a link to your website and facebook"
"Post links to your work"
"Post references from other professionals"
"Post links to mods you've worked on"
So yeah, if all you got to contribute to a project is a vision, then you better be willing to pay money.

From what I understand, true backwards time travel is probably impossible. But it might be possible to travel to an alternate timeline which appears to be in less advanced technological state than your own. This would mean the grandfather paradox wouldn't matter, and no actions you make would alter your timeline. But things could be vastly different from what you might expect. Its probably just as much of a crapshoot as traveling to a few hundred years in the future.

@Beriallord Europe has a very dark history when it comes to minorities, they've always been welcomed but then turned on when things aren't going so good, there was a great article in the NYT that made this point and suggested minorities should be starting to get worried, especially Muslims. I wish I could find the link to it, it was quite insightful. There's more to it though, the E.U is stripping democracy away, many feel they no longer have any say in the way their country is run. They feel that all the mainstream parties are the same, which comes as no surprise as they're only managers for the real government which is made up of unelected bureaucrats in Brussels. There is an elected European parliament but it has no legislative power, it's just a rubber stamp for diktats from Brussels.
What you describe fits the definition of an Oligarchy, not a Democracy. The only difference between an Oligarchy and a Dictatorship is there are dozens to hundreds of tyrants instead of just one. That is basically what the EU is. All it would take to dismantle the EU would be for Germany, France, or Britain to leave.
It puzzles me why any country would want to open its doors to floods of immigrants from the 3rd world. Some immigration is fine, but from what I've seen and heard about places in Europe they've gone completely overboard with immigration policies. Many of these immigrants from the 3rd world have no marketable skills, and are being thrown in a totally different socio-economic environment. Its not a surprise to see why many of them aren't adapting as quick as some would like. But the fault lay on the ones pushing the immigration policies, not the immigrants themselves.
Reponsible immigration policy is allowing people in who have marketable skills, and someone who isn't likely to be a lifetime dependent on the Nation's welfare roster. Empying the slums of one Nation onto the streets of a developed Nation is only asking for trouble.

Endermod, maybe it would help if you show off some of your work so that people know you're actually serious and have the talent to back up your ideas. Share credentials, education, etc. If you are serious, then you got a lot of work that you personally need to do before you can even consider getting a team behind you. Ideas without the talent or knowledge to back them up is doing nothing but blowing out hot air. And not only that but one has to assume that everyone is trying to scam on the internet until proven otherwise.
Some ideas on ways to showcase your ideas:
Come up with some artwork depicting the game, this needs to be professionally done. Hire an artist unless you happen to be a pro.
Prove you are forking out money out of pocket to further your game. You can do this by hiring some modders to do work for you.
Serious people will get a business loan. And if you can convince a bank to give you a loan based on your vision for a company, then more people will take you seriously.
If you aren't prepared to at least do the above, then nobody is going to take you seriously, nor should they.
But instead you're coming here and:
Asking for help developing a complex game without sharing any credentials
Asking for donations.
So it seems to me like you either don't have your act together, which means nobody should take you seriously, or you're trying to scam for donations.

When the US economy finally goes completely FUBAR, which it will, the best people can hope for is a political party with a moderate political position who have solid economic ideas, and who are not extreme left or right wing. Communism or Fascism isn't the answer. All these laws, and amendments passed in the last 200+ years, at some point its going to have to be ripped to pieces and whoever the new government is will have to start from scratch and selectively pick which ideas were good or bad. There are simply too many bad decisions put into law to be able to undo them all on an individual basis.

A question is just who would rise to attack the corrupt power factions of the world? In the end would the military, and other forces, defend or attack the current balance of power? I think that the intelligent, skilled and cheated middle class may well be driven to rebel and will take the so called lower classes with them. In the past disaffected members of the upper classes have turned upon them; many famous revolutionaries came from such origins so it could happen again. If a war did start it would probably be a very messy, destructive event that would change the world no matter which side won or if the war ended in a stalemate.
You need look no further than Europe to see what is rising and it's not pretty. http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2014/04/golden-dawn-rise-far-right-euro-201441483840429923.html
Fascist groups like the Golden Dawn are going to start gaining in popularity the more dire the political/economic atmosphere in a country is. Ideologies like that thrive in those sorts of situations. Nazism rose up in Germany during hard economic times after the fall of the Weimar Republic. The same thing could happen anywhere, even the USA. Ideologies like those are too extreme for normal people during better economic times, but once things go downhill and you have a large population of youth who are unemployed, can't get jobs, and then people are going to look for someone to blame. And where there is blame, there is hate.

I don't like the idea of the USA transitioning into a service/consumer based economy. We used to generally make what we needed, and we used what we made. Once you start a globalized economy, its hard to undo it though. It could be done, but it would probably require 15-20 years to make the transition back. The USA would have to rebuilt its manufacturing industry. Import tariffs can be used to make products created in your own country more competitive than stuff that is imported. But that only works if we have the ability to fill the gaps with products made here. I think its more beneficial for countries that have a similar socio-economic level to trade with each other and compete. Any government should always put its own Nation's labor force first.
Capitalism on a local/regional/national level = good
Global Capitalism = bad.

Unlikely. Nintendo has maintained an anti-3rd party policy since the N64 era. And most people see the Wii-U as a flop, especially developers.
Also, developers aren't even sure what sort of games are even gonna sell on the Wii-U. Its a totally different target audience than the PS4/Xbone.
This explains why developers are uncertain about the Wii-U:
Call of Duty: Ghosts (Wii-U)
http://www.vgchartz.com/game/71505/call-of-duty-ghosts/
Only 150k copies.
Xbone:
http://www.vgchartz.com/game/72087/call-of-duty-ghosts/
1.7m copies sold, and a lower install base than on Wii-U.
If a main AAA game that sells well on other systems doesn't sell on the Wii-U then what the hell will? Nintendo 1st party games? That is awful disheartining to see the COD sales #s on Wii-U if you're a developer thinking about porting a game to Wii-U. Uncertainty is very high. You'll be asking questions like, "Will I even recover the cost to port the game?" And that is just sad. Lots of developers have gotten burned by releasing games on Wii-U. I don't know what makes people think a Fallout game would fair any better on Wii-U than COD: Ghosts did.

Bosses don't require "one hit roll" technique. That is only the safest possible way to play if you don't know the fight. You exploit the frame delays on their actions to get as many hits in as you can before backing away. And some of them have dead zones on their attacks that don't even require rolling or blocking to avoid at all. The best players will maximize the amount of hits they can get in, and pick apart every vulnerability the boss has. You shouldn't be asking "how do I avoid X attack" it should be about what is the most efficient way to avoid it. Stepping back or moving/circling around to avoid an attack is always the most efficient. Then rolling, then blocking. Knowing which attacks you can avoid by stepping back/circling without blocking or rolling is key here. You don't even have to figure this out yourself, you can just watch videos on youtube and see how some of the better players are fighting certain bosses.

This project looks good. As long as they try and stay true to the 15th century theme, I think it might set a new standard for open world games. People are tired of pointless fetch quests and repetitive tasks they reap little to no rewards.

I like the Vikings series on History Channel. Its the only newer series I've watched and liked in awhile.

Everyone seems to be fishing for information to use for advertising purposes. And then they can sell that data to people like google. I typically conduct my internet usage in a way that throws a wrench in them collecting any relevant or useful data with regards to me. I wouldn't go as far as saying its being used for evil purposes or anything, but it still doesn't sit well with me regardless. Someone using my internet habits as a way of targeting ads tailored accordingly isn't helping me in the slightest.

Look the strength of the electromagnetic field gets lower it doesnt stay the same i know the evolution theory tells us about a Magic Magnetic field that somehow goes skyrocket in terms of strength but then all of a sudden it magically drops... that isnt possible.
Earth's magnetic field is ever changing and fluxuating by small amounts. Also, its not magic. In the past there has also been what they call magnetic pole reversals, that can greatly weaken the Earth's magnetic field for a time:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomagnetic_reversal
But I disagree with some of the others, and Earth being bombarded by higher amounts of solar radiation for a period of time during a magnetic pole reserval could absolutely impact the evolution of some species.
This is what Earth's magnetic field looks like:
Each of those lines can fluctuate and move somewhat.
http://www.hpc-ch.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Earth_Magnetic_Field-300x225.png
What happens to Earth's magnetic field when it gets hammered by a solar flare:
http://sci.esa.int/science-e-media/img/1f/i_screenimage_32799.jpg
When the above happens, this happens in the sky:
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/11/18/article-2509068-15D11765000005DC-724_634x387.jpg
Why the Earth's magnetic field has something to do with evolution?
Weaker magnetic field = more UV rays get to the Earth, and over time it can mutate DNA. One variable out of many that can cause evolution. But it with UV rays, it could be devolution instead. Evolution implies improvement, but that isn't guaranteed.

Ebola Has the next scare began?
in Debates
Posted · Edited by Beriallord
They're out of their mind if they haven't placed a travel ban from these regions suffering from widespread Ebola. Meaning nobody from these regions enters the USA, period until the situation improves. As its already been proven, we can't stop somebody from lying to get into the USA. When it comes to the possibility of spreading a very deadly pandemic, we can't take your word at face value, so nobody from that region should be allowed into this country.
I think the media is lying out their teeth about the severity of how contageous Ebola is. Many healthcare workers not only in Africa, but in the USA have caught it even when going in with full hazmat suits. These people are not stupid, especially physicians. So that has to make one wonder if they truly know what they're dealing with here? Also, why was a healthcare worker who recently treated an Ebola patient allowed to get on an airplane within the US? If there was a case of someone being dumb, then this is it. Shouldn't people who recently treat ebola patients be put on a "no fly" list? For at least a couple weeks?
I don't think any healthcare worker should be forced to treat an ebola patient either, considering the recent track record, and how deadly this virus is. Nurses get paid good money, but they don't get paid well enough to risk catching Ebola. They should get hazard pay for like 3x their salary if they decide to treat an ebola patient. Its only fair.
Hospitals in the USA don't have enough isolation/hazmat rooms to treat a large number patients with contageous deadly viruses like ebola. So if things get out of hand, our medical system really isn't equipped to deal with it, and past that point things would be guaranteed to get worse. I heard a doctor on TV saying how he was surprised they haven't established a secure ebola treatment facility either on a military base, or setting up a government facility that isn't currently in use to handle this problem while mitigating the risk of it spreading in a hospital that treats a variety of patients. Why haven't they done this already?
If ebola spreads its purely based on the incompetence of governmnet regarding its immigration policies, and handling of the situation after it got to the USA.
