For me, part of the attraction of Skyrim is that it it rooted in a fantasy based, historical environment. Think Lord of the Rings, Beowulf etc. If it was to be transposed into a more modern scenario - Fallout or GTA being the ones that spring to mind, then much of the attraction would be lost for me. I still play Skyrim (& I've had it since Day One) because it offers the chance to experience a fantasy world, far removed from Real Life, in which I can experience Elves, Giants & Dragons. I'm really not interested in introducing gunpowder, rifles, or modern tech. Plus, as has been said above, for the next instalment I would really like to see either the Empire / Aldmeri war, or it's immediate aftermath. I am quite happy for the TES series to remain within it's current time frame.

Derok, have you tried AMidianborn's high res armour textures - they are a great improvement on the default armours? There are also some Viking armours that look pretty good & may suit your needs. I usually stick with something like leather armour because I want it to look realistic, not fantasy. Personal preference, but Dragonplate armour etc. just don't work for me.

Don't think that this has been mentioned yet - try modifying your .ini to force the programme to use multi-threading for textures. It will help as it spreads the processing load more effectively. Can't recall ATM where I found the relevant info, but a search on here should bring it up. Good luck!!

I had this problem a while back - resolved it by uninstalling NMM, re-downloading & installing. Mods are not affected, so don't worry about losing them!

The Moonforge is on the path leading up to High Hrothgar - about 2/3 of the way up IIRC.

Don't know how I forgot to mention SkyRe - it's a major game overhaul that is well worth having.

As a "field" archer in my spare time I always enjoy using archery in the game - especially for hunting. IMO sneak is worth using due to the 2x damage benefit, also I think it's the Bosmer who get a significant racial archery benefit. There are several archery mods available, from making quivers sit closer to the back to realistic length arrows, to ones that affect the trajectory & gravity drop. Plus of course light armour - the aMidianborn mod is *very* good - I use his / her version of the leather armour. In terms of fighting, I try to use sneak for my first shot, pump in a couple more if necessary as the target closes on me, then switch to sword & board to finish off. As in real life, archery is the historical equivalent of artillery - very effective for taking out the enemy at a distance, but you need to switch to something else when up close & personal!!

You may want to look at "Skyrim Re-Done" - it is a modular overhaul of all aspects of game play which (IMHO) greatly improves the game. If you're after a Mod which incorporates hypothermia etc then there are a number of good ones out there - although I can't recall any names just now!!

Does anybody else kill this jerk every time during the escape? I do it as a matter of principal now - it really p*sses me off how he talks proudly about the Mage in the locked cell screaming for days before he died. It's just something that I feel I have to do to make Skyrim a cleaner place!!!

I'm so sick and tired of how unstable the game is
Beoroth replied to 1096bimu's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
You're right - 1.8 has done damage to what had become a "relatively" stable piece of software. Regular CTDs have returned, and there is now significant stuttering in first person view. I've tried turning down the graphics settings on my card but to no avail. Yes, I have >60 mods installed, but the game had been quite solid prior to 1.8. I hope that they fix it soon because it is virtually unplayable in it's current state. Intel i7/2600, 12 gig ram, o/c nVidia 560ti, Win 7/64. -
So, scratching around on the Web, it appears that the issue of NPC attacks is a bug in 1.8 - as is the severe stuttering & FPS drop in first person view. Plus, quite possibly, why I've started getting random CTDs again. Solution? Start another game ... ... ... :wallbash: There is a rare bug in vanilla Skyrim in Whiterun hold. If you kill anyone and kill all witnesses so the bounty never gets reported sometimes very rarely the game still thinks you have a bounty when you do not. This makes certain citizens that have certain guard like AI attack you (Elrindir, the people of Riverwood, everyone in Dragonsreach, and rarely random guards not inside Whiterun) and because you technically do not have a bounty you can not pay off anything to fix it. And because of this if you defend yourself you will get an assault bounty and then the guards will attack you as well. Now there are 2 ways to fix it. Either walk up to a guard that is non hostile and punch him to get a measly 40 gold bounty and pay it off. This fixes the bug. (can also work by getting an assault bounty by defending yourself from the glitched people) Or open the console and select any guard and type paycrimegold you will be teleported to Dragonsreach and have any stolen items taken as if you really payed for a crime. But no gold will have been removed since you were only paying off the phantom bounty the game forgot to properly clear from earlier. Hope this helps and sorry for that bug. I do not know what causes it. But I an assure you mods had nothing to do with it. I got it before in completely vanilla Skyrim before I even started using mods. It is a rare but annoying bug. thankfully most characters do not ever get it.

So, I've just retrieved the "Horn of Jurgen Windcaller" note for the umpteenth time, & I return to Riverwood as requested. However, as soon as I enter Alvor & his wife lay into me, then the guards join in. If I fight my way as far as the inn, Delphine comes out & joins in the fun. If I try going to Whiterun instead, everything is fine until I enter the Bannered Mare, at which point Uthgerd attacks me. I have Lydia & General Caius with me & am running the "Ultimate Follower Overhaul" mod. However the same thing happens even when I de-activate the mod. Interesting that the guards don't attack until after the NPCs ... ... ... Anybody got any clues as to what might be going on? Thanks,

Very impressive video - you've clearly spent a great deal of time on it. However I have to agree with the previous poster that the film "300" was so bad it should never have been released - over stylised, historically inaccurate - it was made to appeal to the game-console generation. Also - to be pedantic - it wasn't known as the "Hot Gates" but the "Gates of Fire", something lost in translation maybe? Looking forward to seeing more of your Skyrim based work.

Started up Steam, noticed it doing a download of something - didn't see what. Now every time that I try to start Skyrim, either through NMM or directly through the opening screen it's immediate CTD on the Bethesda logo screen. Not installed any new mods since last time that I ran it, so my suspicions are on whatever the sneaky download was. Anybody else with similar probs?!? :wallbash:

I had a similar problem with Jordis - disabling UFO let her follow me again.
-
Thanks for that - I disabled UFO & everything is back to normal!!

I left Jordis waiting in Solitude whilst I went off to fight in the Civil War. The war is now over, & I've returned to Solitude. However, I can't get Jordis to follow me again - she obeys every other command, but when I say "follow me" I get the usual spoken response, but she stays where she is. I've tried "parting our ways" first, but it makes no difference. Anybody know how to get round this? Thanks.

I had exactly the same issue on my first play through & couldn't find any way around it. Later play throughs it all worked just fine ... ... ...

I was hoping to find the 4gb patch - but this one is certainly better than nothing - if it will work with Win 7/64. Will give it a try later. Many thanks!!!

Trying to get Oblivion MERP running on my Win 64 set-up, & from browsing lots of different forums it seems that having the LAA patch might help. However, I've followed a large number of Google links for it - & they're all 404s! Does anybody know where (or even if) this patch is still available? Thanks.
-
I've just downloaded MERP & the 2.65 final update. However, whaen I start it, I get various screens for several minutes then I get an "Oblivion has crashed" message & that's it! I'm running the "5th Anniversary Edition" of Oblivion - anybody got any ideas? Thanks!!

Cut him to ribbons in the market place - apart from the guards, nobody cared. Which says a lot for his popularity in Whiterun!!!

So last night I was attacked by a giant bear - only this bear wasn't an animation, it was like a giant cardboard cut-out. A couple of minutes later I came across a woman standing on a rock dressed in her underwear - without a head! When I finally arrived at Windhelm it was to discover huge sections of the Palace of Kings missing, leaving torches & icicles hanging in mid-air & doors going nowhere. Also, much of the ground was missing, so that it was possible to see through to the terrain underneath. I've also had this problem with one of the buildings in Winterhold, down in the village. Not saying that these errors are down to the latest patch - but I didn't see them before!!
