  1. I thought I had posted this before but I can't find it so I'm posting it again. The Repairing the White Phial quest isn't starting for me so I researched it and downloaded the Unofficial Patch. I've installed it on my computer and it does show as a download in the Nexus Mod Manager but it isn't on the list of the mods that I can enable, nor do I know how to change its position in the mod list, as is recommended in the Unofficial Patch information (I tried installing the program recommended to put the Patch in a particular place on the list but when I try to install it my system asks which program to open it with). Could this non-computer savvy get some help on how to get the Patch where it belongs and get my game going? Thanks for your help! Desideria
  2. Let me start here: I'm not a computer geek. I'm a person who plays games and wants them to just work right. That said, I seem to have a glitch in the vanilla game and the "Repairing the Phial" quest isn't starting. I read that the Unofficial Skyrim patch can help with that, so I've spent the last few hours trying to download and install the patch--first I had to install a newer Nexus Mod Manager and then I could try installing the patch. The patch shows up as downloaded in my system and in the Mod Manager. I've unzipped it, and now what? It's not listed in my plugins in NMM and I can't find any way to get it listed there, nor do I know how to get it into the proper location among the list of mods. I've tried doubleclicking in the Unofficial Patch Data File and I get the "Unable to Load CTL file" error message. Thanks for any help you can give me!
  3. Thanks, Enthusiast! I just went up one point in Archery, and the problem went away. :-)
  4. Nevermind...I got the answer in the general discussion forum. Thanks anyway! :-)
  5. Not sure if this is the right place, but I've gotten no replies yet in the General forum. In the Skills menu, my Archery has a red 20 to the right of it even though 52 shows when I'm up in the 'constellation'. I checked the Active Effects menu, and there's nothing negative there. I also tried drinking a Cure Disease potion just in case, but it didn't do any good. Does anyone know what caused this and how I can get it fixed? I run a stealth character and rely strongly on my bow. Thanks for your help!
  6. Well, it's really up to how you want to play the game. I'm going the way of your first choice, as I'm a Khajit female character that joined the Dark Brotherhood, uses a lot of stealth and does archery (you'll see elsewhere that I've just had a mysterious sudden drop in my Archery skill, which is..inconvenient). As a stealth character, I have to rely on someone like Lydia who's a heavy armor wearer and a hard hitter, but she also messes with my stealth as enemies tend to spot her--but then, they tend to attack her and ignore me, also. As a stealth character I feel more vulnerable than I would as a fighter and I tend to use a lot of poison to increase my odds of killing quickly. I don't feel ready to kill a dragon solo so I can't really go far without a follower of some kind. I do think that no matter what a person chooses, there tends to be some melding. There are times when I've absolutely had to switch to one handed weapons over the bow, or die. A character who wants particular kinds of enchanted weapons will likely have to do enchanting, or may need to use magic against undead sometimes. Even the extra ability you gain as the main character involves something like magic--no matter what kind of character you're playing (and yes, I think you'll want to use that skill). And...to get all the options on that ability, a character needs to be pretty broad in what kind of things they try (being pretty general here to avoid spoilers as well as possible).
  7. Help! My Archery skill now has a red 20 next to it in the Skills Menu, even though the actual skill is 50 or so. I checked my Active Effects and there is nothing negative showing. I even tried drinking a Cure Disease potion and my Archery skill still has that red 20 in the Skills menu. Does anyone know what is wrong, or what I can do to fix it? I'm a stealth character, and I really rely on my Archery ability.
  8. Thanks, everyone! I heard from a mod and I think the problem has been resolved. I appreciate your time and trouble with this, and I would close the topic if I could find a way.
  9. Thanks for your suggestion, but it's a tad ironic. I just tried using that Contact page myself, and the text we need to duplicate to "prove our humanity" doesn't show up for me on either Firefox or IE. So I can't use that contact method. Desideria
  10. Hi! My fella got Skyrim Friday and just came to this site today. He tried to register under his usual email and it said that it's in use, but he has no idea of his login and can't get on. So he tried registering under another email address, but it keeps defaulting his login to his email addie and he still can't get on. Is there any way we can help him? He's *very* frustrated. Thanks, Desideria
