Update, clothes, and clothes-equivalents like robes do not have the same effect: IE a character can wear a cloak and a set of common clothes at the same time with no consequence. -

Yes I did try it, sorry, I shoulda included that in the original statement. I'm not a super experienced modder, but as far as I understand it, it's not a texture issue. The textures of the capes can be rendered, but only when a chest armor is not equipped. I sort of guessed the might be the situation. I've tried using TESedit before in the past, but I've found it's a little too complicated for my inexperienced self. I can try again though. -

Ideally, I'd be able to keep the cloaks on my NPCs. And it also doesn't fix the fact that I can't keep cloaks on my player character. -
Exactly what it says on the tin: on both the player character and NPCs, whenever a cloak is equipped, an armor cuirass cannot be equipped... and vice versa, Forcing half the population of Skyrim to run around in their skivvies. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both of my cloak mods and the chesko camping mod (which includes a few cloaks). It does not matter the mod that the cloak comes from or what kind of armor is being equipped. In addition, I know for sure that the armor does not just cease to exist, because it's still in their inventory, just sitting there cuz the capes have priority. This makes for some really awkward encounters. This is my total load order, please halp:

Exactly what it says on the tin, My game crashes every time I get near to the imperial camp in the province of Windhelm. This is what feels like my hundredth restart due to mod frustration, so it'd be wonderful if I could get this resolved without having to abandon this saved game file. My mod list is as follows: its a little rediculously long, but I hope you can still help. I have used loot to organize it all, but I dont feel confident enough in TSEdit to clean the files up. thanks a ton for any help you can provide.

So I did instal ENBoost, and I have about the same performance. I'm still crashing, but I can usually make it inside the city and walk around a bit before it happens. Also, I Realized, two mods didn't show up on my load order initially. Those were Jk's Skyrim-lite and realistic water 2. I think this was because they were improperly installed at the time, but I've since reinstalled them and am still experiencing crashes.

So I've been having trouble with CTDs a lot lately, and I have no idea what to do about it. It only seems to happen when I come into proximity of a large city. Rarely around villages does it happen, but always when I'm getting near a hold capital. Please help. Specs, Usage and LO I was going to include a txt doc with the papyrus log from the last crash, (a game session that lasted about 20 seconds, I might add), but the file was too big to upload.

Thank you for the advice and the tips PeterMartyr!! Do you suggest i uninstall all of my mods before watching the intro to Skyrim modding videos, as it seems he'll be going mod by mod from scratch? I was thinking about doing it anyway, just so i have a baseline for all of this stuff and its been crashing for so long, from so many little things that i feel like it might be nessisary.

There is a bug in my intro sequence so my carriage rattles violently into Helgen, sometimes so strangely that the horse dies or I end up in a different part of Helgen by the end, clipping through a wall or something (I put this in only because I feel like it might be pertinent, not because it is the direct cause of the crashes.) If I make it to character customization, I am aways able to make it through the intro-mission as well. I can travel in the forest all I want after, hunting deer or rabbits or people as I please, outfitting myself, experiencing some of my awesome mods. But bar none, when I get near a population center of any size, be it a major walled city or little village, anything short of a cottage in the middle of the woods, I crash to the desktop without a warning or notification or sound of any kind. I have tried many experiments: Starting a new game (many times), using introduction replacers like LAL, uninstalling and reinstalling both the game and all mods, even going through each mod individually and testing loading near a population center to see if it will work. The only thing that consistently keeps me from crashing is if I have no mods installed (not activated, installed, It still crashes if they're just deactivated.) I tried learning Papyrus script a bit to understand what the logs were telling me, but it was miles and miles of information. At this point, I don't mind losing my Game info if I can just make it to the Riften gates without a crash for once. Here are the specs for my Computer (laptop): Model: Acer Aspire E5-573G Processor: intel Core i5-5200 CPU @2.20 Ghz Installed Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB System Type: 64 bit Operating System, x64-based processor Game is stored in normal steam location (that is to say C:/program files(x86)/steam/steamapps/common/skyrim) It is the current, fully updated version of the game, as of 9/13/2016, with all available official DLCs installed I use NMM to install my mods and LOOT to organize my load order. I don't know how to check on my installation of SKSE, but it was within the last year I believe, so I suspect it's up to date. My load order is as follows: Any Help would be a Godsend
