Fallout 4 Update 1.5 and Mods - How To?
CMoth replied to VladTheImpaler42's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Ever since the update, my game CTD on startup, doesn't even load up the menu. -
In response to post #36264185. #36272420, #36280400, #36281620, #36294745, #36295480, #36307360, #36313620, #36340025, #36344490, #36347635, #36348020, #36368590, #36372830, #36372990, #36373850, #36382245, #36384055, #36384285, #36385985, #36391440, #36414355 are all replies on the same post. Despite the comments on "voluntarily opting in" I had to go in and opt out of it. I made no "voluntary" step to do anything, I was automatically opted in, possibly due to my season's pass. But, it was simple enough to go in and correct the issue.

Ditto. I am literally posting a reply on every similar post on the forums. Equipable Cigars, a huge must.
-
I'm an avid cigar smoker and would love to have this feature return. I used the "Wearable Cigars" mod in Fallout 3 and FNV. Please, Oh PLEASE, somebody make this happen.
-
Had this in Fallout 3 and FNV, and it's awesome. I would love this feature. This needs to happen.

I know there are quite a few travel mods available that enhance fast travel and the like. Even a flyable Veribird. But, I think that a travel idea that is missed is a simple bicycle. Quicker travel obviously and I think it would be super-easy to develop without having to load up a bunch of files. A change of first person viewpoint (holding a set of handle bars that move similarly to an actual bike depending on amount of pedaling effort) and changing player speed. There would obviously be some issues with terrain but nothing too difficult. Mountain bikes seem to be able to go just about anywhere that a person could go on foot. There are also fold-able compact bikes available that are pack-able. Although, considering I can yank a huge missile launcher from out of nowhere it doesn't seem that far out of lore to be able to suddenly produce a mountain bike with small saddle bags. To keep it simple you could even make it first person only so that you didn't have to do a lot of work with a 3rd person view. I think that would be a decent compromise for the capability. So, what do you guys think? Quicker terrain navigation without having to replicate a fast travel or do anything with a large vehicle and lore friendly transportation.

11th birthday, 1 million NMM unique downloads, and a download overhaul
CMoth replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
I would like to personally thank the creators of this site for bringing me back to PC gaming. If it weren't for the Nexus and the Mod Manager spawned from it I would probably still be playing horribly castrated titles that have been downgraded for consoles without knowing exactly how much fun I was missing. It caused me to build my own computer, something I hadn't even considered until about a year ago. Because of this site I have never played a single second of un-modded / unimproved TESV: Skyrim. Thanks to this site, developers will be getting more of my money so that I can play other games I used to play on console before I found out how horribly I was getting fleeced. You have much to be proud of. I wish you success for whatever is to come. -
What might actually be conflicting with the beta patch (at least for me) is the Scriptdragon files. The author of the file hasn't updated it yet for the new patch.
-
I am having that issue as well. I uploaded the newer version of SKSE for the beta and installed manually as I have done in the past. Failure on start-up due to an incompatibility error.

There are some games that are perfectly viable, even "better" played on console if for nothing else but the very large multi-player base. But, I have re-learned that the PC is by far a better overall gaming machine if for no other reason that it can be far more powerful. I say re-learned because I started gaming back when you basically had a PC for serious gaming or you were a dolt. When I got back into gaming a few years ago I started with consoles, Play-Stations primarily until Halo 2 then I bought and Xbox 360. I was happy. Then I started playing Fallout 3 and my opinion changed. I still had a lot of fun and put several hundred hours into game-play. However, I felt limited. While looking into it I found out WHY I felt limited. I was limited, on purpose. As a lark I bought Fallout NV for PC and put it on my laptop, with obviously reduced graphics. I started playing around with mods and discovered that this really was the only way to truly get the most out of this style of gaming. So, I decided to build a PC for the specific purpose of playing Fallout 4 when it was released. I built my current desktop: Asus motherboard, Intel I5, 16 gig of ram, and an EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX460 gpu (Not extremely high end but within my budget and serving very well). Obviously that's not an in-depth list but enough to get an overall view of my system. Fallout NV became a completely different animal. Then of course, I bought Skyrim for PC. I literally have only turned on my consoles five times in the last 4 months. There are still games I will buy and play on consoles but the open sandbox stuff will be for PC only.

I had that happen to me as well while doing the Blades quest to find the Alduin Wall. She just disappeared. I tried the move to player commands and every other suggestion. It would take me back to the location that she was lost in. I feel that she may have fallen through the mapscape or something but nothing I did brought her back. I ended up using the base ID to summon another copy of her. Thankfully I hadn't stored a lot of gear on her.

All that does is make my physical size and age match the inability forced on me by the game designers. Besides, while it's believable that an adult can deal with the stresses of a massive ordeal and make complex moral / immoral decisions, playing as a child just screws it all up. How can I wield a large shield and swing a sword if everything I'm trying to use is bigger than I am? Unless there's an accelerated growth rate with skills bonuses that's not much of an incentive. And BtW, exactly WHY were the Imperials going to behead a child? Thanks for the suggestion but I think I'll stick with the original request.

I've always been annoyed by video games that start you out as a near middle-aged invalid with no skills or abilities. While I understand that increasing skills and leveling up perks is all a part of the fun I find it a little silly. What were you before the game started, a toddler? You've had to have learned something useful in the first half of your life. What I do is have bat files that I enter into console commands to upgrade perks and skills for the type of character I want to start as. While a decent enough fix it's a little immersion breaking to open up the console. I'd rather have a story based menu that allowed me to select a character type using something akin to a profession title. You can choose everything else about your character, why not a set of basic skills that meet specific character builds? You know, a blacksmith would have a decent start on being a good warrior. A medicinal alchemist with some minor magic ability. A former sneak thief to start down the road to super-sneaky assassin guy. I know that the races have certain "special attributes" but that does NOT equate to having a full adult life prior to the events of this game. Oh gee, as an Orc I can get really pissed... nice. So, I was thinking of having a scripted option in the character creation menu at the start of the game where you can choose an occupation title giving you a good head start down a specific character type. Have a set of unlocked perks for each occupation or whatever that had elevated skills for those perks. Not god-like but better than a goo-fingered idiot that's been dumped into the world. Fallout sort of had the right idea but didn't quite go far enough with it. So, that's my request. I'd do it but my modding skills are presently at "goo-fingered idiot". ;)

Finally got everything working properly with the mods I wanted installed. No lockups (not one) after a few hours of game-play .Awesome. Made the fresh re-install and added mods and adjusted the load order after the previous trial and error. So far, so good. The only major mod I didn't re-install was the Mission Mojave pack. Nothing wrong with it but I think it conflicts somehow with Project Nevada. Regardless, it's working nicely now. Thanks to everyone who replied with your suggestions.

I didn't have these problems prior to a few major mods used. I gave FNVEdit a try, followed all of the instructions (didn't do much really really but made a couple of patches for things that were obviously conflicted). However, the persistent issue has been the game locking up on me every single time I try to access the save menu. Quicksaving wasn't doing it anymore. Going through doors were fine. I was getting random CTD's at odd times but the one thing that ALWAYS caused a CTD was hitting Esc to go to the menu. I did an uninstall, deleted the Fallout New Vegas Folder from my Steam files on my desktop and am now doing a fresh install. I'll start playing the game to see if there are any issues. If none, I'll start reintroducing mods with teh ones I've learned I really want and throw out the "I'll try it" stuff. If THAT works then I'll reload my previous save and accept the fact that quite a bit of excessive stuff will be unavailable. ETA: Oh, I also plan on doing quite a bit of research into what mods actually help improve the game's efficiency and trying those out a bit at a time. The one thing that has really pissed me off is that on install it doesn't ask me WHERE I want to install the game, it just puts it where it wants.

Fairly certain since almost all of my crash to desktop are related in some way to saves (accessing the file locations in UAC protected drive) that I need to move FalloutNV to a different section of the drive not effected by uac. Unfortunately, whn I try to move it manually I don't even have it as an option. Also, uninstall / reinstall using the disc automatically starts the download into the exact same place it was before. Fail to see why I can't decide where it installs.

I would really like to see somebody do a weapon mod covering the Kel-Tec RFB (.308 Bullpup rifle) and their KSG (Dual-tubed bullpup shotgun). Link to KSG... http://www.keltecweapons.com/news/preview-kel-tec-shotgun-ksg/ Link to RFB... http://www.keltecweapons.com/our-guns/rifles/rfb/ There are copious amounts of pictures concerning both of these weapons from every conceivable angle, shouldn't be hard to get some textures and whatnot.

If you actually want to SEE what files are conflicting and how they're conflicting, I highly recommend the FNVEdit file (also download the training manual and READ it) available through the nexus. http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=34703 If you do a search for fnvedit it will show not only the above link but also the manual. A very useful tool and it explains a lot about what is a bad conflict and what is an expected conflict that's a normal mod change.

I've looked through both clothing and armor in the categories and the link posted is the closest I could find. It's probably a custom armor he made himself or... I just missed it. -

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=38050 The colors are different, perhaps he did a re-texture. But, this is REALLY close and the style is dead on. Still looking for the exact style that has the tactical rig instead of the gunslinger belt. -

NCR is randomly hostile
CMoth replied to theunderused's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
This may not be mod related. It used to happen to me all the time while playing Fallout 3 AND New Vegas on consoles. The solution on consoles was to escape, fast travel to another area past the barriers that triggered responses, and then return after about a full day on the game-clock using wait. It could be something to do with some kind of faction screw up. Maybe get one of the mods that includes an NPC called... believe it or not.. Testicle the De-Bug Centurion... I know, screwed up. Using him you can reset your standing with a faction. I think the cheat terminal mod can do this as well but I haven't tried it. You may be able to do it through console commands, again, haven't tried it. -
My game-saves are not corrupted, they load fine. The CTD occurs before a save can be created. I'm not getting corrupt auto saves like I did on the consoles. My GOD but that was irritating. At least wit ha desktop I have a chance of fixing the issues instead of being a freaking slave to them. To answer the other poster, yes, I'm using a couple of mods that effect NPC followers. I've checked the conflicts in them and moved their load orders to where it isn't a problem anymore (that actually improved the game performance considerably).
-
Actually, the only crashes I'm currently having are all related to quick-saves (fast travel or going through an access point for a loading area) or accessing the save menu. It doesn't happen all the time but regularly. After snooping around some more I've read some threads concerning the UAC settings in Windows 7 and it conflicting with game-saves if the main game files are in protected areas of the drive (which mine are). I've tried to reset the permission for access for the specific files (my Steam folder) but it hasn't cleared it up. I'll next try to uninstall and re-install to an unprotected drive space. I also came across the FNVEdit program and downloaded it and the training manual. It really is an interesting resource as it points out conflicting entries in mods and gives recommendations for solving those conflicts. Linky for FNVedit file... http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=34703 I'm learning all kinds of new s***... this would be awesome if the CTD wasn't so annoying.
