  1. Nevermind, found out the answer: "You can also take screenshots and save them to your Steam screenshot manager by pressing the F12 button. This only works if you have the Steam community overlay enabled. When you take the picture, Steam will inform you with a small pop-up and sound, and you will be prompted to manage your sceenshots when you exit the game. You can share your sceenshots with other people in your Steam community." I had disabled the Steam community overlay. That was the problem.
  2. I updated Steam and Skyrim for the first time in several months last night. Everything seems to be working fine, EXCEPT that now I can't take screenies by hitting F12 key anymore. Have any of the updates changed the key to take screenshots with?
  3. Anybody know how to set Dual Wielding to a hot key? As far as I can tell, there is no way to do this, unless the 2 weapons being used are identical. One cannot do it for, say, a sword and dagger. At least, I don't know how to do it. Anybody know a way?
  4. I was on the internet -- OBVIOUSLY -- when I made the posts about not being able to play Skyrim yesterday. My internet connection therefore was obviously working. It is entirely possible that there is some change I could make in my computer settings on my end which would prevent this problem from happening again. But I am not a computer tech. I have no idea where such a problem might lie or how to correct it. When I purchase a computer game, it is for leisure time fun. It is not something I think I should have to be a friggin computer tech for in order to play a damned game. Bottom line, as was pointed out by another poster above, is that this problem would not be happening at all if not for Steam's "service" of inserting itself between me and playing my own game. I don't want this so-called "service." I want to just slip in a disc and play the game. Easy, simple, with no damned "Steam-- Error. The game is currently unavailable. Please try again at another time" nonsense.
  5. not particularly my place, but i have to ask a question, and make a statement. Q. are you sure you don't work for valve? because~> S. You fail to see that it doesn't matter who's fault it was that he couldn't play a game he paid money for, the fact that he couldn't is what's important. if skyrim never had steam>he could have played if pirated>he could play with steam>could not play doesn't matter if it's his connection, his isp's connection, steams servers/connection, or a monkey swinging from transmission lines screwing up the connection. he could not play because of steam. steam is what's at fault, nothing else. because no steam he would have never had that problem. Exactly. Steam isn't giving me any "service" I want at all. It is instead a barrier to me playing when I want to do so.
  6. Follow up to my above post: I was just able to log in, finally. Steam was "unavailable" to me for at least 7 hours earlier today. And some of you have the gall to ask why others don't like Steam!
  7. Okay, so the Boss shuts down the office early today and lets us all go home. I drive home looking forward to playing a bit of Skyrim. I try to log into the game but am greeted with: "Steam -- Error The game is currently unvailable. Please try again at another time." This is INFURIATING. How can people NOT understand how INFURIATING this is? Sure, I realize some people apparently never have this problem, but for those of us who do, surely you can see how much experiences like this make us HATE steam. Btw -- I am running in Offline mode. "Offline mode" is a lie. It isn't truly, completely offline at all.
  8. Reading this thread, it is apparent that some posters take the position of "steam has always worked fine for me, so therefore I think it is fine for everybody and I don't want to hear any more complaints about it." Their "reasoning" about the topic begins and ends with that, and they will not go any further.
  9. I was new to Steam until purchasing Skyrim recently. Never had a game that required it before. After spending hours and hours of NOT BEING ABLE TO f***ing PLAY AT ALL BECAUSE OF GODDAMNED EVIL STEAM , count me in with the steam HATERS. I simply cannot understand how anybody could like a system like steam, where what is supposed to be an OFFLINE SINGLE PLAYER GAME is required to contact internet servers before playing. I do not like not being able to play what is supposed to be an OFFLINE SINGLE PLAYER GAME because some damned internet server is down or I am unable to connect to the servers for whatever reason. STEAM IS EVIL.
  10. I know very little about modding, but I am curious as to why games like Skyrim never seem to have an option for long hair (the short hair in game which claims to be "long hair" is not actually "long" at all). Is it so difficult to provide long hair in game for some reason that I am unaware of? Seems to me that any game which puts so much detail into so many aspects of the game could offer friggin long hair as a character option. Anyway, I suppose I shall just have to wait until somebody provides an equivalent of Ren's Hair (hair mod for Oblivion) for Skyrim. *sigh*
