  1. I suggested this in a thread I started about a week ago, my idea was to focus on the north too, and place the setting during the War of Five Kings. World - from the wilderness north of the wall to just north of the Twins. 9 castles or cities not counting the wall, should be doable. Factions - Stark faction, Ironmen faction, Wildlings, Bandits, The Watch, Others, Sellswords and a certain house at a certain point in the story (wouldn't spoil it for those who haven't read that far) Quest - Defend the North and become a knight or lord in reward. Misc - Hire sellswords to keep you safe or get assigned a squire. Bards sing The Bear and the Maiden Fair or The Rains of Castamere. The war functions much like the Civil War in Skyrim (take this fort, etc). That's some of the ideas I had. It would be a big project, but not too extensive I think. Adding all of Westeros would be.
  2. I wouldn't say Skyrim is crap, I've had plenty of fun playing it and I still haven't stopped. But yeah, I'm a bit disappointed by the quests, dialogue choices and general immersion as well. In terms of appearance this is one of the best games I've seen. The combat and leveling system, although streamlined or simplified, I can live with. What bothers me is that the quest portion of the game seems so half finished. I started a character (the typical nord warrior) and went through the main quest attempting to role-play but found I didn't have that many options. When I defeated Alduin I figured I'd get some recognition from the Jarl of Whiterun, the Stormcloaks and the Imperials, but no, no one even seemed to notice I just saved the world. Except for some Dark Elf bard who sang a song about it. When I approach important NPCs there's no new dialogue options based on what just happened. The dragons kept attacking at an even higher rate than before. What exactly was the point of what I just did? Then I joined the Imperials in the civil war because of the Thalmor being a bigger threat etc., but after the war was over nothing changed. People still talked as if Ulfric was alive. A week after the battle his body was still lying in the throne room while people were having dinner at the table. I thought his head was supposed to decorate a spike in the Imperial City as the general said... Yet nobody seems to recognise the war is over. Maybe they're all in denial or something. At least I had hoped the end of the MQ would reward me some more. Make me Jarl or High King, hell, I should be Emperor. At least give me a free house or a good horse or something. But alas, I'm just loafing around killing bandits. Even though we shouldn't have to rely on DLCs, I'm hoping for a Broken Steel 2.0 as well, which makes the quests seem consequential somehow.
  3. Oh, of course I am. Try not to take me in a too serious tone, just because I don't spam smileys. I put little feelings into writings on a forum... about a game. My point being: There is currently about 50 different people who wants to do a huge project. They then fail to realize it takes about 12 times the time they estimate. It takes over 100 people 6 years to make Oblivion. You can then get perhaps 15 people, modders, who are most likely amateurs. So, about 25 years to get a quality cyrodiil out? You could, of course, re-use models and what not, saving perhaps 20% of time. My point being: People should stop getting huge ideas, if they are not experienced enough to know how long it takes. Nobody have ever gained a mod team by asking in 1 post, and that will not change. I used to not mind these topics, but I've had about one per hour since SKyrim was released. "Remake Morrowind!", "Remake Oblivion!", "New land!" and "Turn Skryim into *X fantasy themed thing*, I.E. Game of Thrones". If you are new to modding, you should not even look at a big project. If you are an advanced modder, you should know how long this takes and plan accordingly. You should also have an idea how everything look compared to lore. For instance, if you remake Cyrodiil as it was in Oblivion, it will both get banned and you failed horrible on the Lore. I'm one of those guys advocating large mods, for example, Game of Thrones as you mentioned. And I've been doing a lot of modding for Oblivion, I understand how it works even though modelling isn't exactly my specialty. But large-scale mods relying on entirely made-from-scratch content (although using its games' engine) have been highly successful in the past, even though there may be years from concept to final release. Look at Forgotten Hope II for Battlefield 2, or Third Age Total War for Medieval II Total War for some examples. It's all a matter of dedication really. And I think you're wrong about people being banned for making mods. If you re-create Cyrodill without stealing models or textures from Oblivion itself, they can't touch you. How could they?
  4. What TC mods would you want to see for TES V? MERP seems to be coming along nicely and is now being ported to Skyrim, which is good, as The Lord of the Rings licence seems to be wasted on most game developers. A TES-style game set in Middle Earth is something I and a lot of others have been wanting for ages. That's only an example though. What other settings or concepts do you think would be good inspirations for a total conversion? I think A Song of Ice and Fire could make an interesting setting for a Skyrim mod. The plots aren't even all that different, if you look at the beginning of A Clash of Kings (book 2 in the series). A fragile empire is falling apart with its leader recently dead, dragons are returning to the world, the north-most province is revolting and claiming its independence... Possible mild spoilers for ASoIaF ahead, if anyone cares. The mod as I envision it would focus on the northern half of Westeros during the War of the Five Kings. The player would be able to join the Stark faction or fight on the side of the Lannisters and their allies. You could join the Night's Watch (or be forced to do so as an alternative to prison), be a "sellsword" mercenary, a knight or eventually lord appointed by whichever major faction you aid, all the while the land is roamed by Ironmen raiders, brigands and wildling bands. Plenty of room for quests, lots of potential weapons and armour (Valyrian Steel, anyone?). Only downside I can think of is that you can't fight from horseback in Skyrim, and mounted combat plays a large part in ASoIaF. I guess spells would generally be unavailable... I imagine there are at least a few fans of the series on these boards (even though no-one ever did a ASoIaF mod for the earlier TES games), if there's any interest among the community I'd actually try to gather a mod team. So, you know, please post your own ideas, and/or comment on this one.
