  1. I have heard others mention a mod for Grimrock to to emulate or make an unofficial sequel to Stonekeep. Has anyone heard of it or is working on one?

I really wish they would make a real remake or sequel to Stonekeep. I know they made that crappy Wii game, but that was not really Stonekeep.

  2. In fact, I just turned it off. It makes textures blurry anyways and I'm using High res everywhere, so I don't really need AA

I turned off the AA in the skyrimprefs file, to no avail unless there is another value other than iMultiSample=0 I need to change.

This happens only in the water in first person, but it is highly annoying.

I have determined through reinstalling skyrim from scratch and installing the mods after testing the game it is not the mods. I do not think it is AA either. (sigh) I also tried turning graphics down to nil and got new drivers. That greyish stuff is so annoying in the water... I wish I knew what caused it so I could turn it off.

  4. The game looks amazing, but I get a wierd rippling line around my character when in first person in the water.

I am running several mods, but it does it without the mods on high and low settings.

notice at the bottom of the weapon and my arm have an annoying outline. How do I get rid of this?

  5. I know elder scrolls is a single player series, but if they made an MMO of the series they would have a lot of followers. Only downsides is that some people do not want to play MMO's and modding would be restricted to UI mods. Still it could be done.

  6. I have had a hard time figuring out a good combination, with both destruction/conjuration I find my self worrying too much about destroying the target and not enough to conjure anything. About the only use I get out of it would be to soul steal the target.

In this build I am using 4 skills for perks with Enchanting and light armor as backups. I was wondering what more skilled players think of this build, and if anyone has any suggestions for making a build.

  7. If he can... I cannot reload the game to before the patch, beucase I downloaded it from steam. Why is it this stupid patch makes performance better for some much worse for most?

Everyone has Skyrim on Steam, if not then that's a pirate copy.

The Steam version of Skyrim is almost exactly the same as it would be without Steam.

The 1.1 patch files I linked to are the original Skyrim files from Steam which were taken before the game was updated to 1.2.

And you only have to copy the 2 files to Skyrim's folder and another 2 files in Skyrim's "data" folder, that's it.

What i Meant by on steam everyone has to register with steam... if you bought it in a store, you have a disc and you can tell it not to update the game from version 1.0

IF you buy it online from steam it automatically updates the game when downloading. You can tell it not to update from there, but unless you have a disc you are SOL.

  8. The newest patch made the game much slower and laggy and practically unplayable unless you want to run it on minimal settings. Previously I could run the game with medium settings on a high resolution. I cannot get a vanilla version of the game to roll back to a working version, because I bought the game on steam. I e-mailed Bethesda like you did, but I received no response. I think they should give me a copy of the game one way or another that is uncorrupted by their horrid patches.
  9. I've been playing Skyrim for 150 hrs and I get to a point in the game where I have to go into Pinemoon cave to do a quest. Every time the loading screen comes up for this cave the game crashes back to windows. I've tried changing my sound setting, re-installing, uninstalling my mods, changing quality setting...... nothing works. I have some other bugs in the game like the book shelves still don't work properly ( I thought the patch was supposed to fix that ). And where i have picked up quest items early in the game and when i get to the quest i can get the items to their owner. ( The Bard Pentea's Flute)

Anyone got any ideas? I love this game but I'm at the point of just giving up on Bethesda and going back to my other games.

Agreed! This patch seriously messed the game up for me. IF they do not fix this and soon, this will be the last game I buy from Bethesda.

Sadly, I cannot reinstall Skyrim to vanilla mode, as I bought it online from steam.

  10. Its just the 6000 series AMD cards (and don't get me started on their 'crossfire' support update ) . I had it running perfectly with the original patch and a unofficial amd fix, but that doesn't work anymore (since patch 1.1). The recent 11.12 driver update helped a bit but I am still hurting in the FPS department. I was running it perfectly fluidly on ultra w/1920x1080p resolution with my laptop, but I have since toned it down a bit (ultra settings with no aa, x16 filtering and FXAA+medium shadows). I wouldn't get too stressed about it, just keep your fingers crossed that there is some better support for our cards. Oh, and apparently you are not supposed to disable v.sync with this game as it messes up the games clock or something. The recent update disabled the .ini edit from working anyways though.

Well that doesn't make me very hopeful Dx With it like it is, I can't even play. I'm currently redownloading the game anyways >->

I had updated my drivers and it didn't fix the huge drops. :/

tree the 1.3.10 patch killed frame rates for a lot of people. It if highly possible that the problem is the game not your computer. The game is not even playable for me thanks to their new patch. The game worked better in vanilla mode, sadly I cannot go back to that because I downloaded the game from steam.

  11. this really started happening after the new patch

still hasnt been fixed tried everything. Im about to give up :(

I have had similar issues indoors even with shadows off my framerates were killed with the new patch. The game got good performance in most cases before the recent patches. Unfortunately because I bought it from steam, I cannot revert to vanilla as steam auto-patches when you download. This will be the last game I buy from Bethesda if they do not fix this soon.

  12. So, the problems began after Steam updated Skyrim?

It may be a problem with the new patch, even though it improved performance and stability for me.

Anyway, try rolling back to patch 1.1 and see if it works better:

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Rollback-Your-Skyrim-Steam-Version-to-Before-Patch-1-2-237801.shtml

Remember, SKSE and any other mods that use SKSE won't work if you do this.

Also try updating your GPU drivers. Maybe Windows broke some of the previous drivers?

If he can... I cannot reload the game to before the patch, beucase I downloaded it from steam. Why is it this stupid patch makes performance better for some much worse for most?

  13. Hello all.

Just installed Skyrim last week, and disappointed with the running. At first the game would not run at all. This was fixed by disabling SLI then starting up the game. Turning SLI back on now runs the game fine. Even on low settings, the game gets choppy at times. Oddly, on ultra high settings, it isn't much worse and still playable. I have tried disabling vsync, but not much of a difference.

    Any suggestions?

    2x 8800 GTX

    i7 950

    6 gig RAM

I think our problem is not our machines as much as it is the newest patch caused many people to get a performance hit. In our cases we cannot afford a performance hit. Bethesda obviously does not code patches well or test them well.

  14. Yes it very wall could be the cpu getting hot and the system cutting the cpu speed to help control the temp, if you are going to cut all that stuff of you need to find some app that will turn your fans on to full when gaming just to be safe. On my old Dell I use i8kfangui to do this, I don't know if it will work for the new cpu's or not but worth a try. Some Info on my system so you can compare.

    Dell XPS M1710

    Core 2 duo @ 2.01 ghz

    2g of ram

    Nvidia 7900 GTX

CPU temp in game around 145F

GPU temp in game max 185F

    Game speed on medium settings

    in towns 18-25

    in caves 25-30

    in open area 30+

    Game v 1.3

    Game play time over 250hrs

hope you get it work out.

possible, but the game ran fine before the patch... I read a tone of people have had performance issues since hte patch.

  15. Toast, I reinstalled windows... I think I do not need that program or something. The gadget you mentioned shows it boosting anyways up to 2.66. Anyhow I do not think that is the problem. I think it is the patch, and the fact that My machine could not afford the FPS loss. Hopefully they fix it. If not, like I said I will save my money next time Bethesda makes a game. Too bad, their games are fun when they work.
  16. Looking up your cpu, it comes with turbo boost. It should be there in the settings menu. Not being activated could be a problem.

IF by chance its there but listed as something else, or operates differently on non sandy bridge cpu's, you could install this utility to see if it is operational.

    http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031038.htm

I have been confused about all of this... on HP's site there is a driver for the Intel Turbo Boost, but like you said it might be on the firmware. I could not find anything about the multiple cores in BIOS. I only saw the processor type and in device manager it shows 8 processors. I tried installing the Turbo Boost driver HP recommended for my computer, but when installing it said my computer "does not meet minimum requirements", which makes no sense.

I did download the program last night. It shows my processor going up to at one point 7gigaherts. I am not sure how accurate it is, the max my turbo boost is supposed to be around 3 gigahertz. Intel does make the gadget however. I am confused... (shrugs)

  17. This is what was advertised that the 1.3 patch did.

    General stability improvements

Optimize performance for Core 2 Duo CPUs (PC)

Fixed Radiant Story incorrectly filling certain roles

Fixed magic resistances not calculating properly

Fixed issue with placing books on bookshelves inside player purchased homes

Fixed dragon animation issues with saving and loading

Fixed Y-look input to scale correctly with framerate

I honestly cant tell you what in there would cause a drop in framerate.

But 15-30 is about right for that cpu and gpu set. Skyrim is very CPU core clock speed dependent. Take a look at the cpu benchmarks and their core clock speed on skyrim: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/skyrim-performance-benchmark,3074-9.html

Your CPU is operating at 1.6 ghz which is why you are barely getting 15-30 fps. If your turbo boost technology is on, your cpu shoud jump to 2.8 ghz and deliver more tolerable levels for playing.

To determine if your turbo boost is still working, go to your start menu and type - msconfig - and hit enter.

Click on the third tab which says - services

Click the check box in the bottom left corner that says - hide all microsoft services

You will see displayed all programs currently running in the background on your pc that are not related to your operating system.

You should have one that says - intel turbo boost technology. If it is labeled - running - then we can eliminate that as a cause for your fps drop. If it says - stopped - then that may be why your so slow.

Also, laptops can get very warm and will encounter problems if the gpu gets too warm. Download and install GPU-z. (its free) http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

Click the "sensors" tab and check the box in the bottom corner to continue refreshing...

Start the game and play for a few minutes. Then pause and hit alt+tab and go to the desktop. View your gpu temp on the sensor log. If it is above 80 then that can be a cause of the fps slowdown. This is not likely, but its worthy of checking. Normally you'll see screen issues first.

Powdered I run it on the same settings as before the patch... I got decent framerates in 1.1.0 or whatever the first version. 1.03 killed it for me, and many others have said so as well. Unless they changed something it should be turbo boosting as it did before. Before 1.03 it used all cores. I am not unrealistic I do not expect to run Skyrim on high or ultra. but with the same settings with no shadows, the game has Horrid FPS with the newest patch.

are you sure it is not called something else? I do not see that program.

I do appreciate you mentioning that this could be the cause all along.

  18. I used to have problems with companions disappearing or not porting with me when porting. Sometimes they would stop moving. I do know sometimes Items would not show on companions when given to them. With 1.3.10 the game is so laggy it is unfixable. I cannot even play it from vanilla mode becuase steam auto updates when it installs the game (sigh.)
  19. I have 170 hours on Skyrim. Played flawlessly until now. Ever since I got the quest "Totems of Hircine" I havnt been able to go into Movarth's Lair. When I try to go in, It just crashes to the desktop with no error. I would just skip the quest, but i want to know why it crashes if possible. My drivers are all up to date.

Yeah I'm having problems with it crashing to desktop upon entering the Animonculory within Alftand. Unfortunately this is part of the main Dragonborn quest, so I can't even complete the game. Needless to say I'm pretty furious about that

As with yourself, the game went fine without a hitch until the 160-hour mark. Since then it started to crash to desktop at least once every hour, so I'd say it's a memory leak / restriction that's causing it as a reload of a previous saved-game file worked fine when I entered the same area. Changing the graphic settings made no impact.

I'm going to try out the 4GB thing. Makes sense that if crashing is memory-related increasing the buffer by 2GB will certainly help.

In the new version the game supposedly plays with 4GB of RAM... The perforamnce in this 1.3.10 patch or whatever is horrible it took a playable game on decent settings to unplayable on my computer. I hear the next patch (which may or may not fix my problem) will not be out until the end of January. If this is how Bethesda makes games this will be the last game I play of thiers. Sad thing is i cannot even go back to the vanilla version becuase steam forces us to use the 1.3.10 patch everytime it is reinstalled.

  20. You say "choppy frame rate."

What exactly is your frames per second? Are you using fraps or just guessing because it looks choppy?

I can help determine if this is a natural result of the mods or there is something actually wrong but you gotta post your actual pc specs.

    I-7-xxx

    Radeon-57xx

also, are you on a laptop?

Mine is choppy with no mods and I am getting around 15-30 FPS in areas pre patch I would get 30-50 with the same settings....

yes I use a laptop.... but the specs are listed below and as I said the machine ran the game great prior to 1.03
