  1. When dragons take too much damage, they lose the ability to fly. From the pictures it looks like his health is well below the threshold. He would fly if he could, but now all he wants to do is turn you into a snack. Sometimes I'll hit a dragon in mid flight. If he takes enough damage, he'll come in for a crash landing which is a sight to see. The earth shakes, dust and debris fly in all directions as he gouges out a trench before coming to a stop. It's even more impressive to see this happen as he skids to a stop right on top of you.
  2. Why feel bad? It's your game, you can play it any way you want to. It's not like you're competing with anyone else. Some people use god mode, others use over powered weapons and spell mods. The most important question to ask is: Are you having fun? I'm not aware of any way to prevent using god mode. Maybe there is a mod to change that. I've never used god mode, so I don't know. In the meantime, if you're getting killed all the time, try a different tactic. Bring along a follower to watch your back. Or just put off that fight and buff up your skills with weaker opponents. Don't be afraid to take some hits. Find skill trainers. Apply perks to defense. Stock up on health potions. Enchant weapons and armor. Buy a horse. There's all kinds of ways to get around Skyrim and survive.
  3. OK, but I think that the OP meant MB. Not sure what is meant by mb. I've heard of Mb (Megabits), but that's typically used to measure data throughput, not storage. 20000 kb = +/- 20 MB. I'm currently at level 55 with Dawnguard and Hearthfire on a character I've had since version 1.6 and my saves are holding steady at around 11.5 MB. That's with 40+ mods, no HD textures. 20 MB is a bit bloaty from my perspective. It used to be the magic number where I start getting CTDs but official and unofficial patches helps to keep the file size down. Turning off autosaves also seems to help. Your system might be able to handle it. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're crashing all the time.
  4. I chuckled to myself for an hour after reading this post. Thinking what a fine way to ring in the new year... If I see the video you're thinking of, I'll let you know.
  5. I could have sworn there was already a recurring thread about this very topic. Can't seem to find it... Imagining things again, oh well. I'm a big fan of UNP. It closely resembles a statuesque and athletic body type that appeals to me most. The only thing that bugs me is the treatment of the hip bones while in a crouching position. Armor and clothing covers that up so it's not a big deal. I started with CBBE and still like it, but it seems to accentuate parts out of proportion. Judging by the number of downloads, it appears to be the most popular. And the body slide mod looks interesting enough to give CBBE another try in the future. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are plenty of skimpy or non-skimpy mods for each. It's just a matter of personal taste.
  6. No mention of Auto Unequip Ammo? All my characters are archers and AUA is the only archer mod I've ever needed. As far as tactics go, my characters are equally proficient with bow and blade and will switch to whatever is appropriate at the time. I rarely ever use the most powerful bow available and usually reserve enchantments and poisons for the really nasty opponents. And a lot of cat and mouse, shoot and scoot for anything else I don't want to get close to.
  7. I had a look in my extracted meshes folder. There are no bootsf files in the fineclothes02 folder. It only has the two bootsm and a boots_go file. But I do see bootsf_0.nif and bootsf_1.nif in ...\meshes\clothes\fineclothes01. That might work. For replacing armor and clothing, I recommend getting a bsa extractor (BSAopt or FOMM) and nifskope. To make the process easier, and more fun.
  8. I haven't seen anyone make custom armor for draugr, if that's what you had in mind. But I have seen draugr armor modified for human characters. I'm in the process of doing something similar.
  9. Maybe it's not skinned properly. Have you tried weight painting? Or are the vertices flying out in all directions? If that's the case, then adjust your weight slider in showracemenu to match the armor you're working on. So if it's armor_0.nif, set the slider to 0. If you haven't already, check out this site. Lot's of excellent tutorials.
  10. Checkout this thread. It happens sometimes after using the Aura Whisper shout.
  11. The guards say "Watch the skies, traveler." They're not kidding, eh? I was heading for the Rift when I noticed a couple shadows moving on the ground. I assumed it was birds and paid no heed until two Thalmor dropped dead right in front of me. Another thing I don't see everyday happened on the road south of Dragon Bridge when I was attacked by an invisible Khajit. The little red dot on the HUD was my only clue on where he was. Eventually I managed to beat him but it took a while.
  12. That's the astridbody.dds texture. If you open the body file in nifskope, you'll see it listed under BSLightingShaderProperty/BSShaderTextureSet/Textures. I don't know why it's there and it bugs me too. Something to do with the DB quest line, I suppose, I guess, maybe. The good news is that the game overrides that by using the textures from C:\...\textures\actors\character\female. The bad news is that it shows up in other apps like the Ck, nifskope etc. You can either ignore it with the knowledge that it won't look that way in game. Or you can edit it in nifskope to use femalebody_1.dds. Which is what I did without problems so far. However, that may or may not have consequences down the road.
  13. Every armor mod I've ever installed only required a forge and resources like leather, iron or steel etc to make them. It would be worth a visit to the local blacksmith to check that out. Otherwise, the mod authors readme would be your best bet.
  14. Audacity is a good open source, general purpose, audio recorder/editor.
  15. Middle age is 25 - 35?. Now I feel old. Anyway, I found that Proporsia has some good tips for facegen. The examples shown are female but the basics will work for male as well. I start with the eyes, then nose and mouth. Then I tweak the remaining sliders and attempt to add some character to the face. As far as hair is concerned, the character should look good in any style. Mine start off bald or very short haired until I'm satisfied with the face and then the hair is just whatever I think suits the character. Don't expect it to be perfect after one sitting. You may need to go back into showracemenu a few more times under different lighting conditions. As long as you're only changing body weight or facial appearance, showracemenu shouldn't cause any problems.
  16. I bought it from Nurelion at the White Phial in Windhelm. Ah, so you're the "someone" who's stealing all the sweetrolls! Check with innkeepers, that's where I usually get mine.
  17. I haven't seen this behavior...yet. It seems they made some additions with version 0.34.0. Click on Settings, General tab and uncheck "Check for new Mod versions..." and see if that helps.
  18. I had a follower fixate on some slaughterfish the other day. Wasted a lot of time trying to draw them closer to shore so I could use a weapon. Can't I just jump in with a dagger and be done with it already? I miss underwater combat. I miss the acrobatic perks like forward and side rolls. In skyrim there's only forward roll in sneak mode. Then there's magic casting. In skyrim it bugs me a little when I have to pull a weapon or go into combat mode to cast a healing spell. I miss not being able to bait bad guys and draw them outside of their caves and dungeons so I can ambush them. In oblivion, I once led a merry chase with 5 goblins, a bear and a couple of wolves from IC to Skingrad. Hilarious. The 360 degree camera view was nice to have in or out of combat mode. Player head tracking and facial expressions were also missed but we have a mod for that now, thankfully. I prefer Oblivion facegen and took a while to get accustomed to Skyrims simplified version. But at least the npcs don't look like cartoon characters. Attribute and skill management was also fun for me, I got right into it. Even used console commands and analyzed the crap out of my characters progress. So I miss that a little bit. Good times, good times. But Skyrim has its charms and I have no plans on revisiting Oblivion any time soon.
  19. Nicely written. I didn't see any problems on my first scan but then I channeled my grade 12 english teacher and switched to nitpicky mode. The first paragraph is a bit awkward and can be broken into maybe two sentences. You can also combine the first two paragraphs into one since they both describe "who". The transition from "who" to "But the Thu'um is a language..." is a wee bit jarring. It almost begs a transitional paragraph to flow from one to the other. Perhaps something along the lines of "what" to introduce what the Thu'um is and its relationship to the Dovah. Something like... And then continue on with the remainder of the narrative.
  20. That looks like typical nifskope quirkiness. Every time I copy a skirt bone, for example, it tries to rename it clavicle or pelvis or whatever. So then I have to correct it. But I've never seen it mess up the names for a whole branch. Copy the correct name from the first window Block Details name string, (click on the little Txt). And paste to the second window Block Details name string. You'll have to do the same for each item.
  21. The easiest way is to just rename the Doom Heavy files to cuirass_0.nif and cuirass_1.nif and drop them into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Data\meshes\armor\steel\f, overwrite if necessary. The drawback to this method is that, as a replacer, it will take on the name and stats of the original steel armor. There's also cuirasslight_0.nif and cuirasslight_1.nif, the only difference I can see is that these don't have pauldrons. So you can replace one or the other or both versions.
  22. I also prefer the classic cavalry charge. Hold M1 or M2 and release when you're upon them, sprint to get some distance and turn for another run. I took out a vampire mistwalker outside Whiterun that way, wouldn't have been able to do that on foot.
  23. I'm using Pretty Face with enhanced character edit. I had to fudge around with it a bit to get it to work at first, but I'm happy with it. Also have a look at Proporsia-How to fix your ugly face, it has some good tips on face gen.
  24. Editing armor rating is done in the CK. I have no experience with that yet, so someone else will have to jump in. Or there's the "quick and dirty" way. Rename it after an existing light armor like dragon scale and copy it into the appropriate Data\meshes\armor folder. If you have a 3d modelling app and know your way around it, I guess it would be relatively easy to convert. The 0 weight UNP main body is, more or less, the same size as the UNP skinny body at 100 weight. You could probably get away with just moving the vertices and not having to bother with reskinning or weight painting. If all goes well and the weight slider works, all that's left is fixing the textures in nifskope.
  25. I actually find those comments amusing. Especially from the hunters hanging around the hot springs. Then there's this. No Naked Comments
