  1. There is nothing wrong with mods for consoles. I think it's pretty cool they can enjoy them now too. I say that as a die-hard fan of pc gaming. If it was implemented correctly and mod authors were protected, this would be a very awesome addition to the community of modders/users, despite the modding learning curve ahead of them. It takes a lot of finesse to get your game working correctly with a lot of mods and console users are not used to that at all.

Unless Bethesda changes something drastically within their games that makes modding them less crashy, I don't see this as an easy transition and mod authors have the right to not want to deal with it.

Bethesda/Zenimax has gotten greedy though. I have always loved their games but the quality has gone downhill. Skyrim was a huge bugfest right out of the box. ESO is well... Okay, I'm not going there. Fallout 4 seems better to me so far but I only just started playing it this last month.

If you expected more from them with their own modding site, I'm shocked. They are going to drive away the best mod authors with practices like these but should any of us be surprised after the cash grab from last year?

The modding community, literally, made Bethesda games what they are today. I finished Skyrim back in Dec 2011 and I *only* play Skyrim now because of all the great mods made for it. I can go back and play Oblivion from 10 years ago and still enjoy it due entirely to mods. Same with the Fallout series. The only reason I continue to buy their games is because of how you can customize them with mods. Otherwise, there are game developers who put out far better quality games in their vanilla state. If it weren't for the modding potential, I probably would never have bought Skyrim.

It's sad that Bethesda either doesn't realize this or doesn't care about the impact modders have on their games.

It's the same trap Blizzard fell into. When you get wildly popular, you start letting what made you great slip for the sake of pulling in more money.

How about you make an great mod, and than look how your own thing will be taken away, but why should you care, everyon cans play it. The way you act, shows now respect towards the modders,...

We will see, if modders keep modding when people still keep thefting or if modders find a way so their Mods works only on PC. Than we will see if console-players will still be happy, however (and no i'm not against Console-Gaming, because i myself also own an X1, PS4 and WiiU and half of my childhood i grew up with console) if you ask me, with that attitude by console-players you guys not even deserved mod-support.

I don't understand how you not only missed the point entirely, but have such a backwards and stupid view on how modding works. Modders don't like their work being stolen. I don't like my work being stolen (although I use Steam Workshop mostly). We spend dozens of hours or more (depending on mod size) working on projects we think are cool and are interesting for the community without pay.

The LEAST we deserve is credit for the work we've done and where the content WE produce can be distributed. Having some brainless shitlord include my map or skin in some stupid, bloated "l337 pack" doesn't make me happy. It makes me outright furious if they attempt to claim it as their own.

Now, I don't know if you're simply stupid, or if you are simply a petulant child that doesn't know much effort goes into making a good mod (maybe you're both), but saying "just be happy people can enjoy the content your made, even if they deliberately stole it and didn't credit you" has GOT to be the most retarded thing written this year.

By that insipid logic, movie credits shouldn't be a thing. Authors, musicians, and game developers should all remove their names from their work. After all, it doesn't matter who steals or copies it since those original creators should be HAPPY that people can enjoy their content, regardless of if they're credited or not.

I for one would be overjoyed to spend 100 hours working on a CSGO level for the explicit purpose of letting some 12 year old steal it, and claim original ownership. In fact, I should probably thank them, right?

It's not a question about someone having too much "ego." It's about having respect for other people's effort to actually create content for everyone to enjoy.

The least you can do, if you reverse enigneer the mod, is credit the original maker.

If paid modding is to start on Bethesda's own site.. you have thiefs making a profit on somebody else's hard work.. that could open a whole sh*tload of complaints, and legal issues.

I understand Bethesda wanting their "own" mod site. Gives them great insight what the community wants in a new game.. but make sure the maker of the mod is the original maker. And not somebody that reversed engineered the mod from a pc version.

It's the same attitude you see on various forums where people are demanding, not asking, devs for this, that and the next thing. Claiming they know better than anyone else and basically being a selfish keyboard warrior. People who spend hours making content for others to enjoy at least deserve to be acknowledged and decide where, when and how their content is used.

Otherwise what I can see happening is people breaking off into smaller, closed modding guilds/groups and just producing content for a close knit community they know they can trust. I guess it's a case of "don't bite the hand that feeds you".
    jagdhundnull wrote: @arkancelo

In all honesty, I think it's really difficult for you to make that argument when you seemingly haven't contributed anything to the community in 3 years.

And before you write me off as just another egotistical mod author, I'm not -- I too have no mods uploaded like yourself, and in 7 years at that. But I do enjoy and support the efforts of the mod authors, especially given the fact some of them have to deal with seeming toddlers clamoring for updates/fixes/new features as if the mod author doesn't have their own life to attend to. And don't get me started on the people who actively subscribe to the Fallout 4 betas and then complain to mod authors when the voluntary and ever-changing beta patches break the mod...

All that said, yeah, there are douchey mod authors here and there. Happens everywhere. But, while not having published any mods myself, I have made several personal ones, and can attest to the days, sometimes even weeks that can be spent on testing what you're trying to do to get it right. And that's just some simple stuff. Some of these mod authors have been working on their mods here and there since last November.

In the end, remember one thing about all this: the modding community is just that -- a community. It's voluntary. People donate time from their lives to provide this for the enjoyment of others. For them it's an achievement and also a bit fun. But if they become burnt out on the community, if it's no longer fun nor a positive thing for them, why should they even bother sharing mods?

When all the great mod authors on this website decide to pack up and move on with their lives, can we depend on you to give us the game-changing masterpieces?

I've tried to use some of these programs, and just could not get it. Yeah, you have some modders with ego trips. But you know what? It's deserved. Time, effort and a lot of patience. I've been a gamer since the Atari era. Blocks for graphics and paddles the size of tennis rackets. Well maybe a little exaggerated . I too owned many consoles and enjoyed them very much. And still own a ps4, and maybe the ps4.5 in the future. When I heard that they where going to suped up the ps4 or even Xbox1, first thing that came to my mind ,they're going to be able to run the more powerful mods. If feel even though mods are free, I still should contribute something. If not financially, how about endorsements. I'am baffled by how many downloads and so little endorsements. And the sad thing is many of the authors only as for endorsements. Hence "please endorse". One thing both the pc and console people have in common, we enjoy playing video games. WE'RE GAMERS. But when I download a mod, I don't take it for granted. And am very thankful to the modding community for the work they've done, free of charge. Even this site is free. Thank you modders for your free stuff. And I will continue to at the very least endorse your stuff. Again, thank you...

Come on. Even if a mod author is a total shitface, you have absolutely no right to demand anything.

Your role is simple. In this particular case you are only a consumer. Your only power lies in either using a mod, or not using it. Yet you for some reason seem to think that you enjoying someones content gives you a say in what they should or shouldn't do with it. Almost like the author should be thanking you for your "gracious consumption".

NO! THATS NOT HOW AUTHORSHIP WORKS!

  3. i have the same damn problem nobody knows a way to fix this issue?

I am also having this issue. I deactivated all mods and dlc's- still crashing. It's the entire cell as I keep getting "Skyrim has stopped working" error throughout it.

I don't have this issue outside of it- possibly it is quest related? I've tried just about everything to get it to work but can't.

  4. You need more ram. If you are running script heavy mods (like Cerwiden) you're really taxing your system. The longer you play, the more memory your save is going to take as well. Add all that to horse mods, follower mods and the regular game scripts running... You definitely need more memory. The same thing is going to happen again as you level higher in a new game.

    UNLESS:

You might want to check your save sizes too and make sure there isn't any bloating going on. That can cause major lag.

  5. Funny, I was just about to post the same thing. I'm going to try your suggestion regarding the ENB and see if it works.

EDIT- It does work. Thank you so much. I switch between The Wilds and Winterheart ENB and both of them seem to cause this issue with the creation kit.

  6. EDIT- Fixed my issue. Re-reading through the troubleshooting section of BOSS helped. Should have done that to begin with. Fail on my part.

Anyway, in case anyone else has the issue- if you upgrade Skyrim you need to run the original launcher for the registry to take effect again. I was launching via SKSE and it didn't work. Once it verified my registry, it ran fine.

  7. I inadvertently posted this is the wrong forum so I'm switching here. >.<

Maybe this has been posted somewhere but I've been looking through the forums and haven't found anything. That said, I still could have missed something. If so, I'll be happy to click a link and read if you can provide one.

Anyway, I've been trying to get BOSS to run and I keep getting an option to upgrade, I tell it yes and it fails. I try upgrading from the GUI, samething. Matter of fact, it's not even detecting Skyrim anymore. I'm assuming this has something to do with the new update? Or... maybe I screwed something up (haven't touched any files or messed witth BOSS but I'm still willing to take the blame). I've also tried downloading from Nexus but there is no file there.

If it's being worked on, cool. I don't mind waiting... but it won't even sort my load order at all now. I know enough how load order works to do it myself but I've really come to appreciate the helpfulness of BOSS since I have a large mod set up.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks! :)

EDIT - I'm really sorry. I just posted this in the wrong section. I meant to put this under troubleshooting. >.<

  9. Most mods crash my game, it gets to right after the Bethesda logo and just crashed. Also The sky UI works but gives me a message that it's not working right due to an update I might have done which I have not. Any idea what I can do, I can provide any information necessary.

In order for SkyUI to work properly, you need the Skyrim Script extender- also referred to as SKSE. That's why you're getting that message. You can download it here:SKSE . Simple to install.

You also may have more mods that require it and will not work without it.

The troubleshooting guide listed above is invaluable. I run 120 mods and do not have crashing issues.

  10. Been reading the wiki the last few days messing with my Hroki companion mod making her more advanced and deadly, then I got the thought i really want my own custom companion just like I had in Oblivion. So first I made a new Save game after downloading some female hair packs and made the Gal i wanted. I took some screenshots and went straight to the construction set spent 6 and half hours on just her face and getting the modded hair to work properly in CS. then to my dismay I try the mod and her face is a defualt nord face with defualt everything T_T , lucky i had not closed the Constrution kit yet so i returned did some tweaking to try and get it to work nothing tried the ctrl+ f4 thing to try and export the race and it crashed my construction set , i opened it back up to find i had lost the face forever. damn wiki and its last minute info.

So my question is and my help is need in the : IS There anway to either save a proper face in the contruction set or export one from a save and import it into the construction kit ? any help would be greatly appreciated and a new mod will be on its way! please help T_T

NPC Editing happens to be my area of expertise atm. Working on an overhaul, heh. I hope I'm understanding your post correctly... If not, just ignore what I wrote below. :)

Anyway, this is what has worked for me when creating companions:

    1. If you want a custom companion based off of Hroki, go to the CK, and get to Hroki (I'm assuming you already know how to find her based on your above post.) Then click duplicate.

    2. Rename the duplicate to whatever your follower's name will be.

    3. Edit her looks the way you want based off your screen shots. This is the screen where you want to import your saved face. If it doesn't work, you will have to start from scratch.

    4. Make sure you wipe out any Hroki specific AI info (can't remember at the moment if it copies over too... if not, then you're good) and a defaulteditorlocationsandbox (it will be something similar) package.

    5. Add the proper follower factions. I'm assuming you already know how to do all this- so I'm not being too detailed.

    6. Place them in a world space. I usually pick an inn. Easy to find.

    7. Once you're done. Highlight your new companions name in the actors list and hit Ctrl+ F4 to export the facegen data.

    8. Save your new character to your Data folder. (Ex: Mynewcompanion.esp) All the textures and meshes will automatically be copied in upon the save.

    9. Activate the esp, go to wherever you placed them and you should have a new companion with your custom looks.

I hope this helped. If this is not what you were asking. Sorry! >.<

  11. I have tried to install one mod one Skyrim. Data files is lit on launcher menu. I tried using NMM for this but it didn't work, for it crashed to desktop as soon as the Skyrim Main Screen turned on. I tried manually installing, but that didn't work either. So, If someone could please help me with this problem it would be much appreciated.

I might be able to help, but you need to be more specific.

    1. What mod are you trying to install?

    2. Did you thoroughly read the "read me" by the mod author? In other words, is it dependent on another mod? If it is, you will crash unless you install that "parent" mod.

    3. Is this the only mod you have? Or do you have others? If so, it might be a mod conflict.

  12. I'm having a bit of an issue. Not really sure where to begin as I'm completely puzzled as to why this is happening. I have always used Bella's Better Females, Coverwomen or others with no issues. Matter of fact, I've often mixed and matched the tint masks or specular maps to get a more "custom" look for my characters. It wasn't until the past couple of days where I noticed large black areas of pixelated dirt on my characters face. Screen shot attached for reference (had to resize for upload, hope you can see it). I don't have any dirt on my character or any dirt related mods. Nothing. I notice it most during the day- during bright sunny mornings/afternoons. It looks *awful*. It's not so bad with ambient lighting at night or fire light. I've tried playing with my ENB settings to no avail- thought that might be it. I've toggled it off completely and it looks just as bad, tbh. I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with the specular maps...? but as I'm not a skin texturer, I can't be certain.

I upgraded my video card to a gtx560 and my monitor to a 24"- that's when I noticed the changes. Maybe my settings are off...? I'm sort of a noob in the area of optimum game settings but.... I looked up the nvidia recommended settings for Skyrim online and this is what I get. If anyone has *any* idea what could be causing this or has any sort of solution, I'd be so grateful. I'm decent with gimp/photoshop- kind of a noob to Nifskope yet but I have a very basic understanding. If there is a way to fix it with these tools, I would love to try. I just don't even know where to begin, so I'm asking here. :)

BTW- as an aside, I'm not having this issue with the body texture. UNP high res body looks as perfect as ever. This applies only to the face textures- I've tested it with 4-5 different ones. Some look worse than others but they all suffer from this "dirty face" issue.

  13. [url=http://www.google.com]Link to Google[/url]

The trick is to not use "quote" marks around the URL.

Ahh... thank you. That's what cutting and pasting gets me. Knew I was missing something simple. Appreciate the help. :)

  14. Sigh... I didn't want to ask this question at the risk of sounding like a complete noob. I hope I don't get flamed. >.<

I can figure most things out on my own pretty easily but I'm having trouble with this... and I don't know why. How do I make it so url links to other mods actually come up as actual links on my mod page? I've tried using the bbcode- not working. I checked the wiki and tried the suggestion there- not working. It just keeps coming up as text. Am I missing a step?

    Thanks in advance.
