So a bit of context - I'm using a Classic Combat Armour replacer mod and am looking to use Minutemen Aren't Gunners as an overhaul to my Minutemen's equipment. The latter mods adds combat armour to the Minutemen LL, but the former also adds a Minutemen paintjob mod to the Combat Armour - basically, what I want to do is switch the LL entry in Minutemen Aren't Gunners to be the painted Minutemen variant. I know this will basically mean manually editing the entry in xedit, but my question is essentially how do I find the name of the painted armour to substitute for ordinary combat armour? Sorry if my question is a little winding, I hope this makes sense.

I know this might seem very minor, but I am trying out a new mod setup and I noticed while playing that the roof of the room right across from where you find the magazine in Faneuil Hall doesn't seem to have a roof (I believe there is a cooler in that same room). I have tried without any mods enabled and this is still the case. If someone could confirm whether this is in the vanilla game I would really appreciate it.

I don't really know how to explain it, so I'll post a link to some screenshots below. I'm guessing it's something to do with lens/DOF, but having messed around in the settings I can't seem to get rid of the effect unless I turn all post-effects off. Is there a particular tweak I can do? link: https://imgur.com/a/18s8g2u (look around his fingers when in PipBoy and body when in dialogue) Thanks!

Very low FPS at seemingly random times
nocthesis replied to nocthesis's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
Seems as if I found a fix - I had installed MO2 on a separate drive to my Fallout 3 installation. -
Ok, I know I'm probably testing my luck here given the age of F3 and the fact a lot of folks have moved on to TTW, but I'm desperate. I have a GTX 970 which has no trouble running Fallout 4 at 60fps - heck, even NV runs fairly smoothly. Yet Fallout 3 plays.. horribly. I've played the game before and I can't remember it being this bad. Just look at certain buildings at certain times cuts my fps in half - and I can't get above 40fps during fight sequences. So far I've tried: - messing around with my ini's - installing on an ssd - decompressing BSA files - disabling mods - tweaking my NVIDIA settings - messing around with the stutter remover. I'm not sure if I've missed something - but has anybody else had any success getting this game to play without the horrible lagging and stuttering? Thanks, I'd really appreciate any help.

I think artifacting is the right word - essentially, if I move (look up/down..etc) rapidly, certain purple blotches will appear on textures for a split second. They will go almost immediately after, even without moving again. This is really annoying and is irritating my eyes quite a bit. Is it a game issue, a monitor issue, or a GPU issue? (I'm using an Nvidia 970) Any help would be very much appreciated  EDIT: This was most noticeable in a dark dungeon, but upon entering aboveground there's all sorts of weird colouration around the borders of objects. It's hard to screenshot because it's so brief. I'm really not sure what could be causing it? I've tried testing to see if it's ghosting, but I don't seem to be experiencing any other, similar problems and most tests show my monitor to be fine. I uploaded a short clip, sorry for the poor quality (there was a light in the background, the problem was on the textures themselves, a weird flickering):

So I started using TTW because I couldn't deal with all the bugs with rh_ironsights. But.. I've since found that while using the plasma rifle and "firing" it in ironsights, there is a small lag until the weapon goes back to hipfire. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling mods, not sure what's going on. Found a YT video that pretty much sums up my problem: Also took a screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/uNRwnHq

Having an issue with rh_ironsights and the laser rifle - after shooting whilst using the ironsights and trying to return to normal view the gun doesn't default back to the normal animations, and instead stays "fixed" where it is. I'm not using EVE or any mods like that. Screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/k8bRKLq

I mean I know it's a longshot, but hey, it's worth a try lol. I know a lot of people like the new feral ghouls, but personally I prefer the old textures - they look like they've been flayed alive by radiation, a la Martyrs. I'm guessing this would almost certainly require new meshes too, although I know there are some existent mods that make them more skeletal. I must admit I also prefer the necrosis-esque aesthetic of the nonferals rather then 4's burn-version appearance, but I think it would be really cool to relive that feel of having these creepy hunks of raw muscle charge at you.

So essentially I've switched over New Vegas from my SSD d:/ drive to my HDD drive using Steam. I made NMM rescan New Vegas, and all my mods appear installed just as they were - however opening up the game there's red arrows everywhere, and I get notifications saying "x mod is not present". I'm a bit lost and not sure what to do?
-
Guess the title says it all. I can't go thirty seconds without a CTD in the compound :/ really bizarre. I've checked FO4edit and I can't seem to find any conflicts in that cell.. any suggestions? I originally thought it must be Enhanced Lights FX, but I've since uninstalled that and it's made no difference  pls help my Load Order: GameMode=Fallout4

Thanks for the advice, I really do appreciate you guys trying to help me. I was doing a bit of research and you guys really are right about optimisation. I was watching someone with a 1080 play through downtown Boston and their frames were just about the same as mine. I must just have to live with framedrops. Quick question, I use "insignificant object remover", but I've heard that it actually damages performance via breaking precombines. Is this accurate?
-
Guys enboost has definitely made a difference - the most notable being textures are actually loading now properly. In terms of FPS it's still a bit of a mess - walking around the Boston Common it was at a solid 60fps, but then I turned down the street and it started stuttering and fell the 20s before picking back up at around 35. Thanks for the tip though, it has made a definite difference. If enboost utilises my full memory, wouldn't that invalidate the benefits of getting a new card? If that's so, are there any more practical ways I can reduce the choppiness? Yeah I've already came into problems with it being prebuilt. I had to disconnect my disk drive to connect my SSD because I didn't have enough ports.. Like I said my PC does get incredibly hot though.. when I went off game my cores were averaging around 50c, and that's after a while to settle down. I have all my windows open and I'm still sweating like mad. You said you reckon that can negatively affect performance?
-
Would I have to install that separately? I'm already using Subtle ENB, so can I go straight ahead and modify enblocal? My computer was prebuilt, but I bought the card and the SSD myself. The SSD has helped with loading screens - which used to be horrific, but I'm still noticing low-res textures. In conversation with Preston my characters armour looked really damn ugly and low-res. EDIT: oops, not sure what's happened there lol, seems to have reposted a few times. Sorry.

It is an improvment, 6gb, no slower ram and so on, but rly depends on your goal and future plans. Do you wanna play @ 1080p? Or do have plans to go wild with 1440p/144hz or 4k? Alternatively, 1070 / 1070 ti. You can get a evga sc black for ~ $450. Really I'd just like my setup now to play properly. I run it at a standard 1920 x 1080 resolution - my monitor isn't great, but I don't have massive sums of money rn. I do generally like how my game looks right now - I generlaly use a lot of 2k (and the occasional) 4k texture, and this really runs fine outside of the big cities. Just not having it dip below the 40s at the very least would be nice. Also honestly on the matter of coolers I'm completely clueless. I don't know what I have now but my computer gets ridiculously hot. How expensive are they? If you wanna stick to 1080p@ 60hz (60 fps) the 1060 is fine enough with 6gb and 192-bit. But you may still need some ini tweaks and via the nvidia control panel for a smooth/smoother gameplay. Beth's engine is sometimes a hit and miss in performance. Cooling, well check your temps while gaming, heat can/will throttle the performance. And you could open your case and take a look what u have inside. Since you have the i7 non-k, possible you have the intel stock cooler, basic, nothing special. A good one for example Cryorig H7 or be quiet pure rock~ $35 A case cooling setup with at least 1x intake and 1x exhaust would also help a lot. Most brands like corsair offering a fan pack with 2 or 3 Fans for ~ $25-$30 To make things a bit easier.. Is it a custom or pre-build pc? And what's your budget? Only running mods or stuff like enb and or reshade too? It was pre-built, but I bought the graphics card and the SSD myself. I'd say budget wise I don't want to really spend more then £200 in surplus (meaning I'd of course sell my 970, which should get me back at least 100 quid or so). The 1060 is within my budget, and if I can get a cooling system to stop my sweltering when I'm playing that would be a bonus. I do run an ENB, Subtle ENB. Turning it off really had no effect on my FPS, which wasn't surprising seeing as though it's only a (subtle, lol) change. I'm also noticing my textures don't seem to load sometimes. In conversation with Preston I noticed my armour was really, really low-res.

Well, stutter (almost always) means you run to a limit while transferring stuff - some data is not getting through fast enough. In your case I think it's the Nvidia 970, which is actually using only 3.5GB and some weird memory mapping on the last 500MB. Your CPU seems sufficient, als well as RAM. Bethesda games like a lot of VRAM, especially when modded - and *especially* with different texture sets, as you mentioned. So back to the topic - I personally think in your case: - get an Nvidia 1080x with at least 8GB or more. But quite expensive with all that crypto mining crazyness going on right now.... - replace HDDs with SSDs where possible - never ever raise 'uGridsToLoad' *g* Do you use LOOT to avoid other corruption? You didn't mention resolution combined with settings - running 4K with this rig won't work well  Thanks for the advice. I do use LOOT. Damn though the 1080 is hella expensive. Would a 6gb 1060 be any improvement? It isn't much more expensive then the 970, and obviously that's another 2gb of vram. Is there anything less than a 1080 that will let me go through Boston without 25fps with mods? lol
-
Thank you for the reply, but I've already tried the Boston Fix. Unfortunately it seems to conflict with a great deal of mods that break precombines, and I haven't really been able to get it to work. Just as a quick update, I've been reading that the 970 is notorious for slowing down when exceeding 3.5gb of VRAM. If I'm using lots of texture mods, could this be the answer to why my frames die in cities? If so what should I upgrade to? (bearing in mind I don't have all the money in the world lol), is a 1060 worth it?

(I hope I posted this in the right thread!) So I ran a little reddit thread today to ask what was common for people with the same graphics card as me - a Nvidia 970, to experience in terms of FPS in Downtown Boston. Most of them were experiencing at the very least 40, whilst mine can quite suddenly half from 60 to 30, sometimes dropping into the twenties. The stutter is absolutely horrible and ruins immersion in the cities. I've tried lowering shadows to medium, turning Godrays off (no effect - I currently run them on Ultra with the performance fix on the nexus, but even with with them turned completely off I hardly gained any real FPS). I do use quite a few texture mods, but I recall this being just as much a problem before as now, and outside of Boston I usually sit on a reliable 60fps. tl;dr I'm not the most technically minded person and I'd really appreciate some advice on how I can upgrade my PC to run better in cities. Or any other fixes in general people might have. My specs are: Processor Intel® Core i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3601 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s), Nvidia 970 and 16GB RAMI run Fallout 4 on an SSD too. Am I missing something here? I really am not sure why my gameplay experience is so vastly different to people with the exact same card as me :/

More for the sentient ghouls rather then the ferals, but am I the only one that misses the necrosis-style Ghouls of 3/NV? It would be really cool if there was a retexture out there that replaced the burned aesthetic with the old rotting flesh version.

Mod suggestions for "classic" Fallout 4 playthrough?
nocthesis replied to nocthesis's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Thanks - really helpful. As to the first two comments I do understand it is impossible to make Fallout 4 any more then superficially like the older games - I do play FNV and F3 regularly, it's more just I want a new aesthetic for a new F4 playthrough. -
With the suspension of the Fallout Capital Wasteland project, what mods would you suggest to create a more Fallout 3/NVish 'feel' within Fallout 4? Could be anything - weapons, ENB, environments, gameplay changes..etc I think in particular I'm looking for a more Fallout 3-esque playthrough, hopefully with a recreation of 3's gloomy and desolate atmosphere. I know a good starting point would be "Be Exceptional", but I was wondering what other mods you guys would suggest.

I'm a bit amiss as to what could have caused this - the structures in question were just simple, vanilla wooden structures. But my Red Rocket settlement has virtually been ruined, and a lot of effort went into it. I simply verified my game cache to try and solve a different issue and this seems to have caused it. pictures: https://imgur.com/a/Lri4m I'm using Scrap Everything and Place Everywhere, but I haven't had issues before doing this cache verification.
