Like most people I played Fallout 4 at first with the 4 Factions, and I could have quit there but I discovered mods.I was really nervous that I would mess up my game or worse my laptop.I made so many mistakes but through forums and you tube videos, I learned how to fix things. Since August of 2016, I have downloaded 1226 mods (Some are New Vegas). I just topped 3000 hours and that is because of all the wonderful mods available for not just Fallout 4 but many games. I wish to thank all the mod authors for the 6 years of fun. I'm still playing because I keep finding new mods to explore. You guys keep the game alive, Also a special thanks to Gopher and Oxhorn who taught and inspired me, and KINGGATH who has the most wonderful imagination. Thank You!

Ive been looking for components for a new build and when I search with "mods or can handle multiple mods" I don't get anything that can tell me how these components will perform with mods. I am considering a Ryzen 5 paired with a b450 tomahawk, with a Nvidia 1660.I will be playing Fallout 4 mostly with a minimum of 150 or so mods.I have also played F4California with my alienware 13 with a GTX 840m and it lagged a lot.Future plans include California,Miami,New York,Fusion city rising, war of the commonwealth, and Sim settlements.Has anyone played with these mods or with 150 mods with these components and if so,did they perform well? I was also thinking of going Linux now that steam supports it for some games but Ive never used linux. All the videos Ive watched say its easy especially Linux Mint Cinnamon which is close to how windows works. If not Linux, then windows 7 as I cant deal with 10.Anyone out there using these components for a lot of mods? Or for the bigger Mods like California?Id appreciate feedback on what your using and how it performs.I am also not a computer whiz, I have been modding for a while but have limited skills mostly just as it pertains to fallout 4 so I probably would be reluctant to overclock.Thank You.

Its a laptop so I dont think so, dell does make a dock for its alienware devices. I know you can run the alienware external graphics card with the dock, thats all I looked at as far as features of the dock though. But its like 200+ dollars and at that point, I might look into a desktop. Nowadays, even the less expensive ones(500$) are adequete for gaming. My laptop is an i5 with an nvidia 860m card and its not bad. I do have to choose between having a visually pretty game with enb and having the number of mods i like to use. If you try to do both, it has issues.

I did use a program that allows you to clean up your files .I think it was cc cleaner. The space issue is part of the problem, but Im getting some issues with ctds and the like and wanted to move F4 and mod organizer 2 somewhere away from my C drive altogether to isolate it so I could eliminate any potential issues with windows security. Both Gopher and gamer poets who I follow have said there are are potential issues there. But I thought an SSD would speed up the information access.

I have been using a alienware 13 for fallout 4 pretty much since it came out. Despite the fact it barely meets requirements for the game, it has performed beautifully I love to test mods and at any given time might have 150 mods. The problem is,Im running out of space quickly and want to get an external drive. I also installed it in program files(before I knew better) but it takes 12 hours to redownload the game to a different directory and I wanted to wait till I could afford an external drive, and put it on that. Im thinking an external SSD and need some advice about it. What kind of drives are people who mod heavily using? Its an i-5 running windows 7.Thank You in advance for any help.

I am running F4 version 1.10.50 {prevented Steam from updating by staying offline} with F4SE version 0.0.6.4. As I am playing, about every few hours, my game crashes. I figured it was due to having Sim Settlements with All Settlements Extended, and Settlement Limits Slashed {youre bound to have issues there}, so I save frequently and rarely lose much, but it is frustrating. Now Im wondering if its something to do with the version of the game and version of F4SE conflicting that is the problem. Id appreciate it if someone more knowledgable than myself could answer. Thank You.

Do I need to make a compatability patch between AWKCR and Armorsmith in FO4Edit? When I apply the conflict filter, there a lot of red records but In one of the tutorials, it was mentioned that some mods are supposed to be that way and you shouldnt mess with them. On a side note, My Dlc's are also conflicting each other, AWKCR and Armorsmith.I wondered if that was relevant. I was hoping to create a stable base in which to add Valdacils Item Sorting,DEF_UI,Gold Colored Kit and Iconlibs2. I did install those mods(The installation order I used was from Steam "Fallout 4 Mod List" by Lochstock)and for the most part I had the correct colored icons, but there were a few problems and I was wondering if conflicts In AWKCR or AE could be causing issues down the line. Also I ran Loot then corrected my load order manually as instructed in the various mod authors sticky posts, due to forums cautioning people about completely trusting LOOT to get your load order correct. I made an FO4 compatability patch but there is only a header, an armor file with two sub records.Do I need a specific compatability patch between AWKCR and AE? I dont know where to go from here.Any help would be appreciated.Thank You.

Thank You, Ive got a fence (Thanks Gopher for the idea) where im keeping the original mods so I can compare files Ive moddified to the original files, or reinstall when I mess up.

Thank you so much, my normal internet has been on/off lately and Verizon is now throttling my hotspot. Only 120kbs downloading.
-
Im not at all computer literate so please dont flame. My question is, For people who are on a limited internet plan or internet gets throttled at peak times, is there a difference between directly downloading a mod from Nexus and/or manually downloading big mods to say desktop and installing with NMM later? Some mods will say in thr description that manual download is not advised. Im just not sure how NMM works under the hood so If it makes any difference where the file is when you tell NMM to install it.

I was wondering about the files in the data folder and how they are overwritten. For example, I watched a youtube video on how to make your game look more like The Last of Us. I wanted to install some mods with texture files and some with sound files. Lets assume some of them are manual install. If I wanted to remove one of the texture or sound mods, how do i know which files in the data folder to remove without affecting the others. Ive read i can make a backup then just replace the original file, but what about the other 2 or 3 mods installed after the one i wanted to remove? Should i use F4edit or another mod which finds those specific mods files, is there a way to tag or mark files so i know which mod they belong to? Gopher said in one of his videos that he doent let anything go into his data file that isnt managed. I was wondering how he did this specifically. What about mod organizer? I dont know if I should stay with NMM since its so much easier to use or attempt to use MO.

There are a lot of mods and suggestions for fixing FPS loss in cities, (mine goes as low as 3 but usually hangs out around 17) I know turning off Godrays is supposed to help but what are the other ini's specifically that cause FPS issues? What are the first ones that experienced modders adjust? It seems diffrent people have different ideas about what is important (some based on your rig, some personal preference). Also, do I go into launcher first and set my preferences and then let mods change the ini's in custom ini as needed, As per the mod autors instructions? I have an Alienware 13 15, GTX 860m.Thank You in advance for assistance.

At one point i had 140 mods and 3/4 of them settlement mods. They worked fairly well, amazingly since I had no idea what I was doing. I made a 15 story glass pyramid that began just above the roofs of Santuary and covered the entire area.It had a grocery store, hardware store, electronics store, shoe store, cannabis store, pharmacy, all of the regular armor, clothing and weapons store (with a testing range),a clinic and hospital with research department, resteraunts including one with Takahashi, bars with different themes ,a lounge with a nightclub singer, a pool with waterfalls,a library,a church,an art gallery,a zoo with a radscorpion,a yao gui,a deathclaw and a goriila(who kept morphing through the floor,Id have to go looking for him on the building roofs),a fire department,a rescue squad, a police squad, recruitment centers for the brotherhood, and railroad,a school with its own gym, cafeteria and library,a landing pad for brotherhood vertibirds with a nearby hotel, housing for all the settlers with working showers(great mod),a synth replication building,a robotics construction and repair room, 20 milking brahman, scores of ragstads, rabbits and chickens, a mirelurk habitat, fish nets,a fishing boat that was just too big for a lake, an entire floor went to an elaborate run of machinery to sort almost everything i brought back into individually marked machines set into blocks so only the fronts showed(that took forever), i had a transporter but it went wonky, and i was able somewhat to assign my settlers to do tasks like buthcher fish and meat (i got tired of them banging on walls). i cant begin to descibe my bedroom which was in the center accessable by an insitute elevator( just think Aztec pyramid with "from dusk to dawn" overtones) and i was adding in a house of ill repute.(i may have missed one or two) I was around level 50-55 before i ever left Sanctuary. Every one of the took at least one mod and some several. They didnt always play nice and I crashed a few times but Id work on this or that to try and fix or tweak it.Untill I finally just got tired of building.I dont know how many hours I spent doing this but it was fun..So tell me what you want to do and i bet i can come up with some great mods that work well together.Sorry this was so long

Anyone else waiting for Vortex before they start a new game?
mrenfrew replied to mkr1977's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
I thought mod organizer 2 was suspended til vortex came out. I tried to install it but couldnt get it to work. -
Thats a relief actually. Only one kind of program that deals with them. I can do that. Thank You so much for your help, I really appreciate it.

What about wrappers? What are they? How do they differ from other kinds of mods ?Do i do anything special to install these? Im sorry If these are stupid questions,I try googling these things and reading modding sites but it seems like a lot of people expect you to know thse things if youve been modding a while.

I realize the quote below is from Skyrim post but but it is the general thought that made me think i was missing something important here.In relation to ENBoost, Am I not supposed to unpack the files? I did install Enboost but had no way of knowing if it was functioning correctly. I do get the the ENB message for the binary download but didnt know if the stuttering patch worked .My FPS dropped to as low as 4 and not understanding how to remove loose files, I started over.I want to make sure I unpack the files correctly.I have been using 7z and winzip, unpacking the files to my fallout 4 folder (where my exe is) or unpacking to desktop then according to mod authors directions, moving the files to where he/she says to.I feel like im missing something. My f4 folder is packed with, I guess, loose files. When I watch tutorials (usually Gopher) thier game folders dont look as disorganize as mine. Here is what Chesko said : https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/4ds06c/is_it_okay_to_extract_the_bsas_of_every_mod/ "That said I have wasted quite enough brain cells and time troubleshooting mod issues that stemmed from people doing this: They download My Mod v1.0 and unpack it I update My Mod to v2.0 They update to v2.0 and never unpack it They angrily post that the update breaks everything"Because the loose files take load precedence. So, I advise users to simply not unpack my mods because this happens again. And again. And again. And again. By well-meaning users, I'm sure. I just don't want to deal with it anymore. I don't trust users to handle this correctly.

Ive been modding FO4 for a year now, just plug and play mods. Now I want to install some more complicated mods that require input and tweaking. I always read everything on the mod authors page including comments but sometimes people use unfamiliar abreviations and terms I have to look up individually which takes a long time and doesnt fully explain their function as it relates to modding. I don't know what I need to study to figure out how to work with, for example, wrappers and ba2 files, or loose files. I realize a lot of those who mod know this, I assume they have some computer language based background. So where do I go to learn basic file types, as they relate to modding and how they function without having to take a computer language course? Is it possible to use Complicated mods without knowing exactly how they work? I have done research about this but can't find an easy to understand tutorial or video.Does anyone know of such a tutorial?

I have about 30 mods for building. They seem to work well together and are not missing any items Im aware of. I dont have SKE but now want to install Cannabis Commonwealth which requires it.The issue is the installation. If I dont select Homemaker,Do It Yourshelf, OC Decorator,Better Stores, It wont mess with those right? The "do you want to replace a with b;,yes/ yes to all/No to all etc. is confusing because Im not sure if it is asking me if I want to replace the mod i already have with the one im currently installing or the other way around.Id rather not mess up what Ive got now.So I guess what Im asking is will SKE change any catagories in the workshop menu if I dont select them? Also, I had SKE very breiefly before my last game crashed and I had to start over. Loot had a "!" icon next to homemaker and was saying it wasnt compatable with SKE.

it was brought to my attention i may have posted in the wrong place. Is there a way to remove the post?

Ive been trying to use a mod here on Nexus (Fallout 4 Vanilla 99-Percent Completed Savegame) which advances you to the point of deciding which faction to go with. I tried to use NMM but it just sits there and when i go into the game, there is no sign it is working. Then I tried to manually download it and still I dont see anything. I went into my saved games folder and i think its there but how do i get the game to see it.This isnt the first one of these Ive tried. So Im thinking Im missing something.Any help would be appreciated greatly.

followed all the directions and cannot get mods to work.
mrenfrew replied to mrenfrew's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Thank you for your help, i went back and watched all of gophers instructional videos again and have a better idea of what Im doing than I did just a few weeks ago. I appreciate that you took the time to answer. I have a basic understanding now of nmm if i dont have to do anything manually.Im working on that today, hopefully I can figure out how to do that. -
i went into my fallout 4 folder and added the lines i was supposed to in the ini files.then i downloaded the nexus mod manager.. then i tried to download k-9 as a test. it seemed to have downloaded but will not install. what did i do wrong? Ive been modding on PC for two hours and have limited knowledge of computers so any help would be appreciated. Thank You.
