  1. It all depends on how/why you mod your game. I really enjoy setting Skyrim/Fallout up with a balance of exceptional graphic quality and game playability at 60 fps. I want to be able to take a screenshot in the middle of a playthrough without having to change a bunch of textures/settings. I've spent the weekend making my first attempt at modding SE. Most of the mods I find necessary been ported. Yes, the game (with several 2k/4k retextures) seems to run a bit smoother, however, I am struggling with the way the game looks. Skyrim SE looks blurry and cartoony to me. SE has quite a ways to go before it can compete graphically with a heavily modded LE setup. In my defense, I have the latest Nvidia drivers, several HD texture packs, tree/landscape overhauls, correct ini settings, Obsidian weather, etc installed. I have also tried a few ENB presets (Intrigued and Organic for Obsidian Weathers) but cannot get the same visual quality that I have achieved with my LE setup.

  2. I, too, would love to see a version of Jaxonz positioner for SE - it was a must-have for me in Skyrim classic. I know it required SKSE and so we will have to wait and see if those functions will be available in the SKSE64 version. Jaxonz is female . . .

  3. The GOTY edition only includes SI and NotN.

Thanks for letting us know!

Wizardmirth, you can buy Morrowind from GOG.com (which is DRM free). If you use Steam, try to have everything installed outside of your Program Files folder (for example - C:/Games/Steam).

  4. I actually went out of my way to have hard disc copies of Oblivion and Fallout 3. I think that some of these older games are more stable without Steam running in the background - when you heavily mod these 32bit games you need to dedicate as much of the 3.2 gb ram as you can to the game and not other useless processes like Steam. I would happily buy all of my games on disc to avoid having to use Steam and have been trying to buy more of my games through GOG.com (no third party DRM client). You will not find any of the more modern Bethesda games on GOG.com, though.

I did not buy the GOTY Edition of Oblivion because I, too, could not determine whether or not all of the various smaller DLCs were included on the discs (and they require you to use Steam). I purchased Oblivion and all of it's DLC in three separate disc packages:

Fallout 3 & Oblivion Double Pack - PC

The Elder Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine - PC (this disc also contains: Horse Armor, The Orrery, Wizard's Tower, Vile Lair, Thieve's Den, Mehrune's Razor, and Spell Tomes. NOTE: for some reason you cannot purchase Fighter's Stronghold anywhere that I've seen including Steam.)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles - PC

I think I paid around $20 total for the discs above - the prices fluctuate quite a bit, so you may get lucky and find them cheaper.

    I hope this helps.

  5. Hi,

I managed to get my ASUS Strix Nvidia 980 cards working pretty well in SLI mode by setting (with Nvidia Profile Inspector) SLI compatibility bits (DX10+DX11) to 0x080020F5. Feel free to test if that works also to others.

    -Xecco

Back to the original topic, thanks xecco77 for sharing this information with us. I'm looking forward to trying this out soon. I know that Nvidia released updated drivers on 10/28 that were supposedly for Skyrim SE - maybe there will be some updated SLI compatibility bits included in this update. Here's the link to the article where this was announced: http://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-releases-game-ready-37570-drivers-for-titanfall-2-skyrim-special-edition/

  6. I use SLI for the original Skyrim and for Fallout 4 (and will try in Skyrim SE).

In my original Skyrim I am able to keep a pretty constant 60 fps (with occasional drops into the high 40s) with Immersive Patrols, OBIS, RND, Wet and Cold, AFT, SFO, Enhanced Landscapes (with grass at max), Expanded Towns and Cities, Skyrim Immersive Creatures, Deadly Dragons, SMIM, several high resolution texture mods, several new locations/homes, and high end ENBs (K ENB, Grim and Somber series, etc) all at 1440p.

If I turn SLI off, I lose 20 - 30 fps and have horrible stuttering.

So yeah, SLI does matter and does make a huge difference depending on the game!

  7. I use CPUID Hardware Monitor when I want to see everything (temps, fan speeds, voltages, speeds, utilizations, etc) in one location. Hardware Monitor helped me verify that I had installed all of my AIO liquid cooling devices properly and that my over-clock settings were actually being applied. I also use TechPowerUp GPU-Z to monitor my graphics cards (displays for gpu load, memory used, temps, clocks, etc).

These monitoring programs do use system resources and can impact your game performance. I wouldn't recommend running them full time.

  8. Adding new mods to a play-through (unless explicitly stated by the mod author that the mod requires a new/fresh game) should work without problems. I've added several mods mid play-through throughout my several years of modding without any problems (to include User Interface, MCM, and heavily scripted SKSE, OBSE, FOSE, NVSE mods).

You should also be careful when a mod gets updated by the author - sometimes even these require a new game or a "clean" save. ALWAYS read the mod authors instructions and stickies.

  9. Have you checked out Weaponsmith Extended? Link here: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10737/?

It's the largest weapon collection available for Fallout 4. It includes several of the most popular/best quality weapon mods all integrated into the Leveled lists (with crafting recipes, etc). Most of the weapon mods listed in onelinglee's post above are included. It's a bit of a slog to install, but totally worth it!

  10. This is just a hunch, but do you know how to use FO4Edit? If so, run your load order and then search "60002147" in the FormID box located in the upper left hand corner. You might get lucky and find the mod causing the error. The eight digit number most likely references a specific FormID entry to one of your mods - whichever one that is located in the number "60" slot in your load order (the first two digits correspond with the mod's location in your load order). The number "60" isn't actually the 60th mod in your load order. You will need FO4Edit to display what each of your mods' actually number assignment is.

The error appears to have something to do with a Legendary Leveled List - maybe one of your mods is having scripting problems while trying to inject an item into the game's leveled items list?

  11. I'm pretty sure that the official number is 255 plugins - .esms and .esps to include the Fallout4.esm and all dlcs. You can have as many texture/mesh mods as your computer can handle. I've read (in Skyrim) that some people were experiencing instability the closer they got to having 255 plug-ins. My rule of thumb is to keep my plug-in list under 225. I usually try to combine some of the smaller mods/patches into a single plug-in to reduce my load order.

  12. I don't have workshop, .ba2 files were corrected along with 1.6.9 exe's and dll's.

Not using f4se has made no improvement.

Thanks for the update. Now I know that I don't need to mess around with unloading my F4SE mods.

  13. I'm like Jimmy, I first noticed the lag when I entered the North church, fps dropped to 3! I was like wtf?

I disabled my most recently added mods, I had 48 plugins at that point. I got back up to 25-30 fps but I have run at 60 fps since the game came out. I only get 60 fps on load screens now. I jacked with the ini a bit, the usual changes everyone makes, no help.

Nvidia Inspector helped some, triple buffer, speed limiter, vsync off...

I went back to 1.6.9 before this started just a few days ago so I can't blame it on 1.7.

Next I am going to bypass f4se to launch and see what effect, if any, that has.

I am puzzled by this sudden hit in fps.

When you reverted to 1.6.9, did you also replace the Fallout4.esm, DLCWorkshop.esm, and the various .ba2 files that were also updated with the 1.7 fallout4.exes?

  14. For some reason, the frame rate drops are very noticeable to me (even just from 60 to 55 fps). This game has caused some serious motion sickness for me in the past, but I have turned off the motion blur and a few other visual settings that seemed to cause it. I think the odd fps drops weren't helping, either.

One of the main reasons I have two monster graphics cards is to be able to play newer games at a high and steady frame rate at 1440p (and maybe 4k later on). Ironically, I can play a very heavily modded Skyrim (towns, trees, grass, npcs, retextures) with the most demanding ENBs and stay close to 60 fps most of the time. I was expecting the Fallout 4 64 bit engine to run even better with my hardware.

I'm also going to try playing without F4SE - although this seems counterintuitive to me because SKSE actually has fixes in it which, when enabled correctly, INCREASE performance. I highly doubt that F4SE is the cause.

  15. Apparently you only need the "bUseCombinedObjects=0 " line if you are using any mods that allow you to create settlements in new areas - not the vanilla locations. I'm going to start another new playthrough (ugh!) since bUseCombinedObjects=0 has ruined my current settlements. I'd rather have the game run smoothly.

I still believe that the recent 1.7 updates have caused performance issues for me and other people - the game was a lot more stable for me prior to the changes. I also haven't made any edits to my load order (I always start a new game if I need to remove a mod), either.

Well if I didn't also use the LooksMenu mod, I might consider ditching F4SE until Bethesda is done with all of the DLC/updates/patching. But, Place Everywhere is just so necessary when fixing up the settlements . . . I guess I'm stuck. :)

  16. Just curious, are the F4SE dependent plug-ins like Place Everywhere safe to add/remove? I wasn't sure if there was any information baked into the game save which could cause problems later.

Also, I've discovered this Fallout4.ini edit was causing a huge amount of lag: bUseCombinedObjects=0 Once I switched it back to "1" my fps improved greatly. I'm still getting drops down into the mid 40's, but it's better than 30! I don't recommend changing this until a new/fresh play-through as it borked my Sanctuary settlement (caused all of the old buildings and plants to reappear in an unscrappable form).

  17. I, too, have been getting less than stellar fps since the update to 1.7.9 (and up). The drops seem to occur in specific locations around Concord (the first road to the left as you approach from the Red Rocket), Lexington (Corvega Assembly Plant), East Boston (East City Downs), and as I get closer to downtown Boston. I usually have 60 fps but will occasionally dip down to the low 30s. The fps drops seem to be when looking in certain directions - usually where there are a lot of buildings layered behind one another. I used to be able to play with all of the game settings on Ultra (except godrays and blur turned off - I don't care for those visual effects while playing) and only have a few dips into the mid 40s.

Considering I am running two Superclocked Titan X cards in SLI, you could say that I am extremely disappointed and frustrated. I have tried switching to one card with no improvement. I am playing at 1440p resolution with an ENB. The framerate only differs by about 4 fps when I turn the ENB off. I've run my HW Monitor program while playing and know that I do not have any bottlenecking occurring between my processor (i7-5930k overclocked to 4.5 GHz) and graphics cards.

I've gained a small amount of improvement by changing my fallout4prefs.ini entries:

    fDirShadowDistance=6000.0000

    fShadowDistance=6000.0000

    iShadowMapResolution=2048

I've also updated my nvidia drivers to the 362.00 release and I refuse to go any newer based on the complaints from other 900 series customers.

  18. In response to post #41275520. #41291170 is also a reply to the same post.

Faelrin wrote: I guess its okay. Though I hardly spend much time on the homepage to begin with, so even with this new one, I doubt it will be much different for me. I also already check and read the news, so that's really not going to change for me either. I do think it is nice the favorites are returning. I currently use it for Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind, because I switch between playing all three and modding them.

I'll be more interested in seeing what the mod pages and mod search will get redesigned to look like. I do hope there will be a list view option for when searching for mods at least. That's much easier for me to find what I'm looking for (like the flat option that's here for mod searches now). I suppose the profiles are another thing I'm curious about, and the tracking center, downloaded mods, etc, but obviously I'm going to have to wait until something is ready to show.

Wish to see what individual game's pages will look like, I usually go directly to those. Also, I visit more than eight different games, so eight favourites on the home page will not make me want to use that more, to be honest.

Want to know if I can still view those in list format rather than the awkward spread of a column/row presentation. List view with summary information just like it is now, without a mouse-over event, it really helps me as opposed to a thumbnail with - to me - irrelevant information such as how many liked and downloaded it.

I think, overall, it looks really nice. I am in agreement with The Girl Next Door on having a list format when viewing mod catalogs. I am hoping that there will still be the option switch between the "flat" view and "block" views like we currently have.
  19. Here are a few things that came to my mind after reading your post:

I don't know what Mod Manager (if any) you may be using - you may be missing some random .net files. I have had this happen after a fresh install of Windows 7. I don't know if Windows 10 is any better with updating . . .

I've found that setting every single .exe associated with the modded game to "Run as Administrator" has helped me with launching issues. This includes: Fallout4.exe, Fallout4Launcher.exe, f4se_loader.exe, ModOrganizer.exe, Steam.exe, etc. I even had to set it on Skyrim's enbhost.exe (I actually cannot launch Skyrim without this set to run as administrator).

You also may need to set your .ini files to read only after making the desired changes.
