  1. thanks for the warning :)
  2. ah, right... actually I am a little confused as to just which bit of Half life I am playing. It is called Half Life Two, but then there is an episode 1 and 2 as well, plus Portal, and a team game (which i am not interested in), so where does Chapter Five come in?? I feel a bit that way about Fallout. At first I hated it, then with some mods I got into it and have been playing it since quite happily, but there are things I might do differently, but the thought of having to go through the early stages all over again.... groo.
  3. ah, well I can't talk to the slaver guy 'cos Faulks shot them all, so I guess its the woolly mammoth. I thought I had to take a picture with a camera!! LOL Thanks for the help - appreciated
  4. hello, can someone please tell me how to use a camera to take a pic of the Lincoln Memorial - and am I to point the camera at the statue of himself or the pointy thing? And yes, I did do a search for the topic and came up blank :) Ta
  5. um, that's a shame, my brain isn't geared for constant frenetic activity - I doubt I will last the course! :) Love the 'pome' Iliad - great stuff, meter AND sense!

    Half-Life2

Hi folks. As I have recently put Windows 7 on a new computer I decided to get Half-Life so I can see what all the fuss is about - it has been running for so many years, it's got to have something special about it. OK it's on and running just fine, and I could get to enjoy it once I know what I am doing I expect - but I am not much good at it at present. Well, that made me think - I wasn't much good at Fallout when I first had that, but much better now ( having Fawkes around to fight my battles for me helps a lot mind), so I wondered, is that how it will be with Half-Life? At present it's all shooting to survive, and I haven't got time to look around. I hope there is more to the game than bang-bang your dead. Will it calm down once I get through the canal system? Will I get better as I get used to it same as in Fallout? You are certain to have played it - most every gamer in the world has this game it seems....
  7. Woogie, that is the answer I was hoping for ( the command, not the change of appearance), thank you for that - and thanks all for your other responses :)
  8. Hallo o wise wuns. I would like to get rid of the MS perk because although it can be useful for him to take care of enemies, he doesn't look like he belongs in Fall-out3 - more like a refugee gangster from a Hank Janson novel. Am I stuck with him now?
  9. Certain modifications can interfere with Broken Steel's activating at the end of the game. Post up a list of the mods you are using and we'll see if any of the known problem causers are on that list. Ok.. I have No More Gore ( I will not play the game without that)... - OH! WHO is a stoopid lady?! ME!! I just went into FMM to see the proper names of the other mods I have ( Summer and a couple of player houses) and what do I see? BOTH the add-on games are listed ( .esm's?) but I had forgotten to go in there and TICK ( usa check) them! They won't work if they ain't ticked. I shall now go and stand in the corner with the dunce cap on.... :stupid:
  10. Hello folks. My son bought me the Broken Steel and Point Lookout DVD for my recent birthday and I installed it, without any problems that I am aware of (64 bit Win 7). I understood from others comments that you had to complete the main quest first, so I have done that, but the game ends as normal. Is there something else I need to do please? Also, how can I check that the add-on has installed - what files or dates should I see in the games folder if the new material has been added? Thanks :)
  11. Hello folks. I have put a few mods on and have no problems with them, but have noticed that when I am out in the wastelands hunting for raiders, on several occasions a raider has shown up with the red and white exclamation mark on him, which I understand means the mesh for something is missing. I conclude that something I have put on has somehow overwritten a standard FO3 game file ( BSA is it?), though I thought these were safe because their date stamp would be older than any mod that was created later. Anyway, would like to know how I can identify and correct the problem , I assume it is for some weapon. The mods I have put on are mostly buildings, but the last was Commander Darwins house, which does have meshes for a variety of weapons I think. Forgive if I have got it all about-face. Help appreciated :)
  12. I did kill all the slavers, looted the camp, and set all the slaves free except for one old chap who was so deaf he couldn't hear me telling him to get out. If I can do it... you can do it - just save rather a lot!
  13. now there's a thought... thank you overload, plan B  Sorted, deepside has clued me up - would NEVER have found it on me own. Thanks again overload :)
  14. OK csb, I shall hang around by the house and if I see a suspicious-looking cove, sneaky sorta key-pinching, trouble-making, poo-stirring type of person, I shall know its YOU and I will come and GET ya. So, THERE! >:(
  15. ....commander darwins house key? I understood from the mod description that there would be a key outside and easily available, but can I find it? No I cannot Grrr >:(
  16. thankyou Bran. Should I take them out of the data subfolder (path is FO3-Data-Data) and put them in the games Data folder? The game wont load at all now - I rolled back the graphics driver thinking it might be that, then re-installed but still wont play. Tomorrow i will uninstall the g-driver fully and then put it on again, and hopefully, with meshes where they belong.....
  17. hello, down-in-dumps gracie here. I have a shiny new computer, with 64 bit processor, and Windows seven just out of the box. Fallout loads and plays just fine in vanilla, but when I enter a mod-building such as mini hideout or sanctuary, there are big red and white blocks of colour where an artifact ( such as the aquarium of fridge) should be. In the Sanctum one resolves to be a big white exclamation mark on a red background. I did not have this problem when I ran it on the 32bit OS of Windows Seven, and of course it is the same graphics card - though I have updated it to the latest. Does anyone know why I am getting this effect? I have tried fiddling with the display options and tweaking the graphics in nhancer, disabling HDR and things like that but it hasn't helped. I am thinking to go back to the earlier graphics driver, but I don't understand why most everything else is ok, and that it seems only to be in the mods ( haven't been into Megaton yet to see if anything looks odd there) Ho-hum, sulk... :verymad:
  18. Ah right - I have his Fallout tweak guide on the screen behind this one right now, and just downloaded the get-rid-of-Live mod he advocates. I said 'tickety-boo' too quickly as I have a graphics problem now, with blocks of red and white where the fridge should be and the waterfall and the aquarium when in the mini hideout mod. Ho-hum. Just put nHancer on to see if I can fiddle the graphics options on that as there does not seem to be a graphics option in the menu settings in the game now that I have put the upgrade on... :thanks:
  19. Anyone know what nHancer settings optimise with Fallout3 please?
  20. Hello folks, I have just re-installed FO3 onto Windows 7 and on a computer with a 64 bit capable processor. Fallout runs as well as ever AND it sees the two mods I have installed, which is more than I can say for Oblivion. One of the mods is 'mini hideout' which I really like as it is small, secure and its creator has thought of everything. It is ideal for me as a safe haven. BUT, when I go in there now, the waterfall and the pristine coke dispenser both have see-through chunks of white and red blocky shapes coming out from them. I am going to poke around in options and see if turning off HDR ( or something) might fix it, but if I cannot do that, I will have to uninstall this mod and look for somewhere else to live. Trouble is, having looked at a fair few alternatives, I haven't found any other mods that I like as much - there are some grand ones available, but either they are not secure enough for me ( I object to mirelurks attacking me once the front door is closed), or they are huge vault-type dwellings, which are not cosy enough for me, or they are in creepy settings like sewers. Can you recommend somewhere small safe and snug, please? Fank you :)
  21. Thanks for that. I have reinstalled W7 using the 64 bit option ( I had not realised my new processor was 64 bit capable ), and I have downloaded the 191.07 nVidia driver. I did actually get the game to run on the 32 bit system, and the only problem I had was that it said certain colours were incompatible. No idea what that meant, but it loaded anyway. Now it is on the 64 bit system and it still complains of the colour incompatibility, but has loaded fine. I have not (yet) put any patches or mods on - this is 100% vanilla. I will probably put another thread on the forum asking about that to see if there are any problems I need to be aware of. Otherwise; tickety-boo! :thanks:
  22. OK Rhiana, I will give that a go - I think I did look in there and saw something about that before I knew I had the problem - thank you for reminding me :) If I can't fix it then I shall put the game back on XP for now ( I have both machines on a KVM switch) and wait for Windows seven glitches to sort out. :) No joy. I made sure the .exe's were on full priveleges ( useful tip that) and got to the place where no conflicts were found, but the two remaining mods ( OOO and Archfall House) remain unparented, so I do not know what else I can do (sigh). As BBen says, the basic game runs well on W7... disappointed I am.
  23. it is getting worse by the moment. The game runs fine, but all of the mods in the OBMM list are 'Unknown', not active. The Elven Map works, but that is not a mod as such - and nothing else. Oh help. The game is not installed in Programs, and I have turned UAC off. I am sure these issues will eventually be addressed if it is a W7 thing - but I don't really want to wait months.... :(
