  1. (Turns out my save was broken. So I'll need to be more careful about what saves I keep in the future.)

I found this bug after going to Vault 95 to do Cait's quest. These black spots started appearing on my character. I thought it was just the grass but no. They were on my character and obstructed my pipboy. They stopped appearing after I entered the vault, But after completing Cait's quest they came back on my power armor. And there are black lines all over the inventory while in the armor. And the spots seem to appear the farther away I get. The closer I get the less appear. I can't really show screenshots due to steam overlay not wanting to work for some reason. If anybody can help I'd be grateful.

(In case it helps I have power armor materials and paints installed. With the proper patches for it to work alongside Consistant Power Armor Overhaul.)

  2. I'm having a bit of an odd issue and I'm hoping someone can help. When ever I enter Fort Dawnguard the game goes tot he loading screen and crashes. I've disabled any Manaquin mods and nothing is messing with Vampires. This is happening after I did the quest to find the location of Auriel's Bow and did one quest for Gunmar and Sorine I was ready to hand those two quest in but I CTD every time I try and enter the fort. This did not happen before and it doesn't seem to affect Dragonborn or Hearthfire. (There also seems to be a crash in the valley before the fort but that happened once and I can't recreate it.) EDIT: Okay so i seems that eariler saves can enter the fort without issue. Meaning one of the quest I did caused the load door to bug. (I can only assume at this point. I'm gonna have to experiment.)

  3. I've been dealing with this thing for far too long. It happens at random after I complete a mission. I have a very light mod load out so what is going on here? (What happens is that after a mission completes at random I end up at the bottom of the avenger and am stuck there until I reboot steam thus rebooting the game.)

I have all the settings at their lowest and the game runs really well (100FPS Avg.) So it can't be a memory or preformance issue.

Mods: Evac all, Long War 2, Stop wasting my time, Free Camera Rotation, LW2 Playable aliens, Freeman's Mind Voice Pack, Pinkie Pie Voice Pack, Hack Plus, Squad Cohesion, The MOCX Initiatve, LW2 Teir III Grenades, Extract Corpses.

(In case I didn't make it clear enough what you are seeing is the bottom of the avenger. This appears instead of the overview screen and and due to scroling being locked I'm stuck there. The only way to fix it is to reboot steam. Like a full restart offline then go online so the mods can enable. And no playablr aliens isn't causing it. I got this before I installed it.)

  4. you can when you have "free time" read through some of my content here, links to places I have posted extensive instructions to modding fallout3's data base, it's structures and such.

It is a required taste or a wish to change things to a more grounded base set up. On some of these posts made to date are complete lists and links to current and past tools once used and forgotten. new does not mean good. it can mean very very bad.

But I have posted it ,as long as it sits there, it's available. My signature contains good reading too to other authors here I respect the most.

Oblivion was the grand father of Fo3...too me. And ya know, I got maybe 3 hours on it before I beamed quarterly bored.

I will always Love fallout 3. easy to work with, simple little game. just need to know what you can do with it, and that is that.

Been involved a lot, with many many mods and authors, both in public and private. War, war never changes, but people do.

That qouet fits perfectly. I'll read up on it and become better at modding fallout 3 until it's smellcrut 5. (Okay maybe not tha far but still.)

  5. here are some habits I have picked up and go by.

    • Keep all games installed to an external USB drive (1 -4 terabyte)
    • Keep all game tools in the same location.
    • Redirect all downloads from any thing that does this to a separate folder on same drive.
    • Use a mod manager that does "NOT" talk to the internet at all. Only one I know of currently.
    • integrate all tools into said manager and said manager being a tool is in the same place.
    • DO NOT install any games software period onto C: Root...ever.
    • DO NOT compromise your PC or system for the likes of any game, they should run out of the box.
    • Read, always read, and read some more, when in doubt? read again. Drink coffee Lots of coffee.
    • Categorize the mods, invest some time in them as a packege product, crack them open and see what's up.
    • install the mods as if you know the load order by heart in that order and always make sure noting gets installed into the data folder...ever. Mod Organizer By tannin42 correct version for use in Fo3 is not the latest version.
    • Use Fomm, The forked version ending in numeral 19 and only that one because it contains the DRM control files needed for THIS game. The other version do not have these files. There is only one available for Fo3 that works"right".
    • If, and only IF your PC can handle ENB's do that as a very very last edit "after all works great. "Back up" always back up ini packages.
    • Avoid all FOSE related mods until last install regardless of load order control, that eliminates doubt.

Now, some here...may have an Opinion about my preferences dealing with code..I don't care WHAT they think, they are not me.

I do in fact use "FOSE" fallout 3 script extender just like every one does, but when I use it, I use the proper-methods for it's use.

I do not Help or diagnose fose related issues due to how it works and can screw up data flow due to incorrect modding practices.

"Script kiddies" have too much fun watching people fail miserably. Get it now? I can't fix Fose saved games because each game is Unique to a system , version of the data, mods built with older code do not work the same as mods built with newer code. you can not go backwards, only forwards in all aspects of mod builds.

FWE (Fallout Wanderers Edition) requires it for only certain things, and can be installed with out fose being there.

Fancy scripts do not need it unless the author builds into a mods "Nag messages". there are many. It's not required.

Fose interferes with load order controllers like that of FOMM or even NMM..yeah that too. It's is not a mod, it is a software program period and overrides things in the games engine, things YOU need to work when building up a modded game.

It screws up NMM like no other thing including but not limited to windows 10.

All this is a habit formed over time, the things to keep in mind. The nay Sayers can go jump off a cliff for all I care.

A well built game can run circles around custom cheat mods. Proof is sitting in my signatures screen shots of what a Pure Vanilla software package can achieve and running at or above 60 FPS !

FOOK and FWE are NOT to be combined, they each are different paths to an end, a complete rebuild of this game and are not compatible with each other.

Different strokes, different source too. Version control is the most important aspect of any data used so read, and read some more, Find out what's in it.

And that's everything I need. I'll take your advice to heart and read the f*#@ out of everything. I'll also make sure to back up my ini's and use back up drives. Most of the other habits are things I do already. I'll also try to avoid FOSE mods. As for the mod manager I'll need to look into that. Also Nothing saved to the data folder. GOTCHA! Again I can't thank you enough.

  6.

But one more question. Why rename the game folder?

Because, doing so will Enhance an accurate install of the game and not have ANY software sitting in that data folder at all from the snafu from before.

Just don't patch the game or install mods that do things to the on screen menus, get it running and established first.

If it is the steam game, it will be all up to date already.

If it is a retail game, all software required for it...should already be installed into the OS, all you need are fresh data files. " No Junk" to mess up the works.

Again thank you. So it's just a matter of clearing out the old and reinstalling? If so then I'll do it! (Or I just need to rename the folder and reinstall. But the first seems more likely.)

  7.

After I installed this mod(ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated). My Fallout 3 will not stop crashing. All it does is go to the loading screen and crash. Can I fix this? If not what should I do? I even disabled every mod but it still crashes. (I'm new to modding so sorry of the solution is obvious. Also no hate to the mod creator just listing the mod for extra help.)

archive invalidated has no code with in it to cause a crash to desk top, all it does is tell the games engine to ignore default archive reinforcements. The bsa archives that come with the game, any data what's so ever sitting in the games Data folder will always load no matter what unless, archive invalidated is not active, then the game engine will ignore Loose files...to a point. some mods, xml types, UI mods will cause lots of problems, those are loose files that DO load no matter what...with or with out archiveinvalidated.

Now, if you have installed any mods at all that edit the ini files? then there is the issue, that's where it lays, because removing the mods and still have issues means a control file has been edited. INI files, xml files are control files.

On screen menus are xml types. IF you have used Nmm to install mods, I suspect you have installed a lot of junk into that data folder and it's a mess by now, so no matter what you choose to do, that mess will remain.

rename the current game folder and reinstall the game. This time, make sure the data is better controlled.

Thank you SO much! I think what screwed the pooch was all the cheat mods. I'll get to reinstalling and making sure that I control the data better.

But one more question. Why rename the game folder?
