  1. As you know, Bethesda releases games that are Beta version and unfinished, and we shell out good money, to unintentionally become their Beta-testers. They seem to have done it again with their Hearthfire add-on. It causes the "dirty disc" error, no matter how new and clean your disc is, and makes the game unplayable. I'd suggest *not* downloading the Hearthfire mod until this problem is fixed. Edit: In this case, Hearthfire, there is no error message until you try to "Load" a previous save, or "Continue" the most recent save, or until the game tries to create the first "auto-save" when starting a "New" game. The Nexus is a PC only mod site. As Hearthfire has not yet been released for PC the ONLY way you could have this for PC is by piracy. We do not support pirated games or pirates here. Banned bben46
  2. I downloaded the most recent version of ApachiiSkyHair v 1.4 mod, unpacked it, and after copying my current meshes and textures folders, inserted the Apachii data folder into the Skyrim folder, causing an overwrite. So far, all correct, I believe. But whenever I try to load my latest save, or start a new game, it crashes to desktop! Argh! What's going wrong?? The Apachii hairstyles are being used successfully by others, and other modders have been using it successfully in their mods, so I don't think it could possibly be the fault of the mod. I must be doing something wrong! Could anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?
  3. As you know, the little horse from the TV series "My Little Pony" has successfully been made into a mod. See: So I'm wondering if my favourite, Sailor Moon, could be made into a mod too. GoF
  4. Wow! All the other mod did was speed up levelling or slow it down by simply multiplying that stat. The LUL mod you mention, on the other hand, is a well-thought out many-faceted approach to making the game more realistic, less predictable and more fun. Thanks for the URL.
  5. My point of view FWIW is that achievements are semi-worthwhile in the Fallout games but completely inappropriate in the Elder Scrolls series. If you can open a page which tells you which rank you are in each guild, that is enough. I pray to the RNG that there will be no so-called "achievements" in "The Elder Scrolls Online" - that would be an utter distraction, a complete immersion-breaker.
  6. I wonder if anyone would like to do a mod to convert Karita into a possible follower companion. She's really pretty, and it would be nice to have her battling dragons and sneaking up to bandits at your side. (There's a mod that allows you to hire *any* NPC as a follower, but it's not complete enough, as her idle conversation becomes inappropriate away from Dawnstar. Also her skills need some adjusting to be a proper companion.) Many thanks in advance! GoF
  7. I dowloaded a mod called "Faster or Slower Skill Levelling" which worked fine for me. It used to be on http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13503 but seems to have disappeared! I can't find where it is now. Is it still on Nexus? Absorbed into another mod? Did somebody piss off the author? Or did he piss off a moderator?
  8. As you all know, you meet Anna Holt in Raven Rock during your escape, and find she has sided completely with the enclave. She has betrayed everything that Dr Li and your father were working for. Your father died rather than give them any information, and she goes and gives them all the information they could possibly want! So why is it negative karma to kill her? Surely it should be positive karma to apply a bullet to her head. Should we just walk away and let her continue helping the enclave??? Are there any future ramifications in the game for killing her, or for not killing her? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
  9. Two young girls named Lara and Taylor play themes from Skyrim and Morrowind (piano and violin). If you're interested, see: GoF
  10. Like a lot of other players on Nexus, I was originally using the CBBE Body Mod, which I really like, but then I found the UNP body mod by Dimon99 and I liked it even more, so I overwrote the female bodies with that. I think it's the best body mod of all. To go with it, I downloaded Nightasy's Ultra Skimpy Armor However, then I came across Obmit's YCTS Armor which is Nightasy's Ultra Skimpy Armor with the panties removed. (YCTS stands for "You Call *That* Skimpy?") That was a great improvement. But then I came across the skimpiest armor of all - CBBE Naked Armor It turns all armor and clothing invisible! The best thing about it is that you still get the full protection of whatever armor being worn, but there is nothing getting in the way of the beauty of the body mod. You can still see their boots and gauntlets and helmets, of course. As the name implies, I had to go back to the CBBE body, and overwrite my UNP body mod with that first. But that's a really nice body mod too. No loss.
  11. I don't either. Not one person that said they hated Steam actually gave a good reason as to why. Other than the inconvenience. Well, for example, one person was given Fallout New Vegas on 30th August 2011, and opened an account with Steam on that day. They wrote back saying that he had to prove he was who he said he was, and he offered them every proof they asked for, sometimes even photographing documents and attaching them to his emails. They kept writing back, mostly with a form letter with a standard reply that they needed more proof, over the next nine months, and on 27th May 2012, they finally apologized for their "misunderstanding" and let him have his account and play his game! If Steam was not involved, he would have been able to play Fallout New Vegas from 30th August 2011, and Skyrim from 11th November 2011, instead of getting stuffed around until 27th May 2012. It's sheer incompetence by the staff of Steam that they cause so much inconvenience. But that's just one bad example, there are thousands of lesser inconveniences caused by them every day. They really need some training in computers, *and* in diplomacy with customers as well!
  12. I love Skyrim. And if that means putting up with Steam's overbearing high-handed bullying and their destructive belligerent intransigent incompetence and stupidity, then that's what I have to do. I couldn't possibly delete Skyrim, no matter what. But I think everyone should urge Bethesda to sack Steam, and issue Elder Scrolls VI without Steam. And produce a copy of Skyrim without Steam as well. Doing that would eliminate a vast amount of unnecessary suffering in the gaming world.
  13. This morning I went into Bleak Falls Barrow with six companions, including Adrianne Avenicci from Whiterun and Nivenor from Riften, and I was really impressed with Avenicci as a companion. All six companions were whacking away at the draugrs, but Avenicci also let out a magical blast that killed the enemy and hurled him across the room! I thought "Wo! What a great fighter Avenicci is!" But then, Nivenor was standing too close to the enemy as she was whacking him with her war axe, and a blast from Avenicci hurled her across the room too. Down she went, and as soon as she recovered, she started whacking Avenicci, who went down on one knee. Then Avenicci ran off but was back soon enough, whacking Nivenor with her mace, those two kept fighting each other till one of them went down and the other stood over them, or paced back and forth, waiting for them to get up. I lo-o-o-ove this game! :)
  14. If there is still anyone on Nexus who doesn't know that Morrowind and Oblivion are also loaded whenever you load Skyrim, and you can walk to those huge land masses from Skyrim, then you'd better check this out. The unanswered question is "Why are those land masses there?" It's great to have them there, but why? Is it just for modders, to build mods that enable you to go back to Morrowind and Oblivion? Or are they for a future planned DLC? Or is it just so you can see them in the distance from Skyrim? You have to toggle clipping in order to walk past the barriers of Skyrim and back to Morrowind and Oblivion, for now, but of course you won't have to when someone builds mods and quests or DLC in those places. Anyone know why they are there? Whatever the reason, it's an exciting prospect, isn't it!
  15. If you want to read about the new "DawnGuard" DLC for Skyrim, there's an article about the Beta version here, but we haven't got much chance of being one of the testers - everyone and his dog want a copy. Most of us will have to be patient and wait till it's released.
  16. As you're developing your character right at the beginning, it's quite important to get the most-needed perks for your character first, isn't it. I've been thinking about the character I want, and I worked out this list. I work on the top ones on the list first, and go lower when I can't (or don't need to) stay with the higher ones on the list. Sneak Archery Alchemy for poison tipped weapons 1-hand Destruction Conjuration Then when I'm happy with those, I'll do Light armor Pickpocket Lockpick When I'm happy with all of those, I'll probably add smithing and enchanting. Do you get the perks in any specific order?
  17. While we're all waiting impatiently for Fallout 4 to be released, (and even more impatiently for The Elder Scrolls Multiplayer Online to be released) here's a link to an interesting article (with lots of pictures) entitled "What a real Fallout town would look like."
  18. I think that he won the battle against Mehrunes Dagon. So he didn't die. If he'd lost the battle, we could say he died. But the Amulet does not kill anyone. It transforms him into a legendary hero dragon! Just a thought.
  19. There's an Improved Alchemy mod here that I can't load! Whenever the .esp file is activated, I get the error message "Missing Masterfile PNO412Morrowind.esm - Continue running executable?" What the...? When the .esp is not loaded, everything works fine as usual. This game badly needs a mod that improves the alchemy. Oblivion's alchemy is good, and Skyrim's alchemy system is even better, but Morrowind's alchemy is difficult and gamer-unfriendly. I'm hoping for a mod that will make some improvement in the alchemy system and make it more user-friendly. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. GoF
  20. I've started quite a few games, so I've come across a number of mercenaries who had heard of "some trouble nearby" and were heading there to investigate. Sometimes they've said they marked it on my map, but so far I've never been able to see where. Was it this place or that? Is that a new place, or not? Or did he mark a place that's already marked? I met one near Whiterun and decided to follow him. I tracked him *all* the way across Skyrim and saved frequently in case I lost him while I was killing something or picking alchemy ingredients. Then he got killed by a giant. Every reload I did ended with him going back to the same giant and getting killed again. The spot that they mark on your map, or should mark, should have a quest arrow, and be clearly stated in the list of the other quests you've taken on. Otherwise you can never find the trouble nearby. GoF
  21. Personally, I just use the best armor, no matter which faction it is. When I'm being a Stormcloak in the beginning, I use Imperial light armor because it's stronger. It doesn't make any difference to the other NPCs or how they treat you. But if you find your immersion suffers from wearing the wrong armor for the quests you're doing, then it would be important to wear the faction armor even if it's not as good. Edit: Later on in the Dark Brotherhood they give you much better DB armor.
  22. Everybody, including me and my friends, finds Lydia lovable. What did Bethesda do to make us care? Why is she so different from other NPCs? If we knew what the magic ingredient is, we could put it into our own companion mods. What do you think the ingredients are, for making a companion so special?
  23. Well, not exactly. He was transformed into a dragon, then transformed into a statue, not a corpse. He didn't actually die. Perhaps the statue is a living statue. Ossified, unable to move, but still able to perceive his surroundings and nearby events.
  24. Others will be more experienced than I, but from what I've seen recently, I'd guess that the problem is caused by Steam. They force an upgrade of Skyrim on you (without your knowledge or permission) as soon as it's available, without allowing time for the authors of the mods to adjust their mods to the new upgrade. (Most players want to wait a while before they upgrade, then download the revised mods.) Someone called this behavior of Steam "belligerent incompetence".
  25. Well, there are quite a lot of things you can do, other than just killing him. You can talk to him and get lots of different options. Or you can talk to Swenk about him, or talk to Yes Man, and decide what to do. (Sorry, I had to mis-spell Swanc's name to get it past the automatic censor! His name ought to be allowed, since he's an NPC! ) Altogether there are about a dozen or so ways you can do the quest. See http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Ring-a-Ding-Ding! for some suggestions.
