Whelp, finally got a solid update from YongYea about Dragonborn Act II
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTppXG1RnC0
So, the project is still a go. Guess he had to learn the hard way not to put release date promises of future releases in the first installment. Very, very glad to learn the project hasn't been dropped.
I know some people don't care about this film project, mostly because they don't like the fact that the film doesn't cover "their" paths through the game. But I like it, not because it resembles my play-through, but simply as it's own standalone tale. It's an excellent example of well made Machinima, and I hope he considers doing one for Fallout.

For those of you wondering why Windows Update did not automatically install .NET 4.5.2, it is in the Automatic Update, but it is not "checked" so would not have installed unless you went in and checked the box yourself. At least that was the case when I looked at my Windows Update.
For those of you who would rather use Windows Update to install .NET 4.5.2:
Start > Control Panel > Windows Update, then click Important Updates, then check-mark the appropriate box in front of the .NET 4.5.2 update. Click OK. Click Install Updates.
If it's any consolation, we all would have had to update our NET frameworks eventually. (Isn't there a Microsoft deadline about that around January 2016?) Better to get used to NMM working with it now than to wait until the last moment to update.

Also, the Forsworn attack everyone who isn't Forsworn. The only exception is if Madanach escapes Markarth alive and flees to his base at Druadach Redoubt after which the Forsworn in that area will be friendly to the Dragonborn.
The Forsworn are a series of tribes that are criminal to anyone not Forsworn. Unlike the Civil War questline, you don't have a choice of whether to join them in general or not (with the exception listed above.)
They are certainly "People of the Reach", but the title of "Forsworn" is a statement that they've become a group with an agenda. In this case, kill pretty much anyone not Forsworn. I remember stopping in at a mining community (Karthwasten, I believe) and listening to the miners chatter after their working shift at their barracks. One miner was considering joining the Forsworn while another warned him not to saying that they weren't just rebels, they were vicious killers. As most of the miners were Reachmen, I think that pretty well summed it up.
Which is really a pity. There was an opportunity in Skyrim to really develop the Forsworn into something more. The whole episode in Cidna Mine seemed to be pumping the player up to have to make a choice, join the Forsworn and basically be an outlaw anywhere near Markarth, or turn on Madanach at the last moment and help the Markarth guards defeat him and his fellow escapees. Instead, it doesn't matter what you do. If Madanach escapes, one tiny area of the Reach's Forsworn likes you. And whether you help, hinder or just let Madanach go, you still get out of frame-up that got you thrown in Cidna Mine in the first place. Rather disappointing. A real role-playing opportunity was lost here.

In addition to what notmyhome suggested, I would add getting better armor and weapons. I got my smithing and enchanting skills up to 90 each so that I could fashion ebony armor and enchant it with various combat buffs. I already had an ebony bow that I'd picked up in a dungeon after a boss fight and I enchanted a Blades' sword with a nasty "steal health" enchantment so that every time I hit an enemy, I transferred some of the damage I did to them as extra health for me.
In summary:
Better armor: Ebony or Dragon (If you get your smithing skill high enough to make them as opposed to trying to find them in dungeons, so much the better.)
Better weapons: Again, Ebony or Dragon.
Enchantments: Armor pieces should have heavy armor buffs. Weapons should have one-handed buff (sword), archery buff (bow).
If you're determined enough, you can get your enchanting skill up to 100 and put TWO enchantments on each piece of armor and each weapon. You can really drive up your armor rating and damage output then.

Whoops! Sorry. Didn't see that thread. Thanks for the answer.

I believe that Amazing Follower Tweaks (AFT) may be what you need. In my opinion it is better than UFO, mainly because it offers more options and does not seem to conflict with many other mods.
I play a goody-two-shoes character, but I once accidentally attacked a civilian during a bandit clash. The civ went hostile on me, but my two followers attacked him instantly rather than turned on me. (I was so embarrassed that I reloaded an earlier save to bring the poor sap back to life.)
EDIT: This video for AFT is hilarious.

Thank you for this diagnostic tool.
When the CDN first started, my download speed were atrocious. I'm talking 3 to 8kbs. But, as you promised, the server system seemed to "learn" what worked for me and I'm now seeing speeds around 700 to 900kbs.
A question. Would you want some of us who are doing fine now, but had lots of trouble earlier, do a test and send the results to you? Or would you prefer just those who are having bad download speeds right now?

I was actually glad when Elenwen showed up. Not my character, he was P.O.ed. But I loved it! I got to talk briefly with everyone before Arngeir called the meeting to order. Loved Elenwen's faintly threatening "...And this time I know what you are..." response. Not surprising, really, since I annihilated her entire security force on duty between the party and her private house. Oh, and offed her chief torturer... er, I mean "assistant".
Throwing her out was great fun. +1 to Bethesda for setting that situation up.

Do you use LOOT?
If not, give it a try. Compare it to BOSS orders to see if you can hammer out a better load order.

I don't visit the ME forums, but I just tried the above links and got the same (bad) results.
I'm using Firefox on Win7. Never had any problems before. Still don't elsewhere. Just here (at those links.)
Sorry to say guys, but it might be possible that it is something at your end after all.
EDIT: And just to confirm, I also cannot see the ME1 forum when I am logged in. I can see and enter the ME2 and ME3 forums just fine.

I would like to suggest Stump the Dog in Riverwood. Have you seen how he looks at the Dragonborn. You just know he wants to help and so he relies on the Skyrim Courier Service.
Before Stump, I would say it is Barbas. Unless you put the Rueful Axe through his brain-pan, in which case, nevermind.

First, big "Thank You" for the replies. Much appreciated!
Believe it or not, npcs constantly performing scripts in a tight space will take a heavier toll than some random soldiers fighting. Still, this shouldn't happen with your specs. Did you install any 4k+ texture packs recently?
That's what I suspected. I noted that when I was sneaking around (and throat-slitting the Thalmor sentries) that the further I got away from the party, the more my FPS went back up. When I passed through the door into the rear courtyard's cell, my framerate returned to normal.
Texture packs: nope.
Do you use ELFX and SMIM?
SMIM: Nope.
ELFX: Yes! I'll reload the party with ELFX disabled and see if that makes any difference.
Thanks again for the assistance!
EDIT: Disabling ELFX did help a little. Party scene was an average of 15 FPS. But when I wasn't looking at more than two or three NPCs, the framerate rose to between 20 and 25. When I got into the back halls, the average FPS was 25, improving the further I got away from the party.
I'm beginning to think that I simply have too much bloated scripting in the background (from other mods, I have a lot of them) and the party scene simply taxes my CPU too much. I bet if I started a new game, the party scene wouldn't drag as much.
-
Yes, the newest version of SKSE allocates the additional memory that you used to need SSME (Skyrim Startup Memory Extender) for.
-
Don't know why I suddenly bogged down into the teens (about 8 to 12 FPS) during the party sequence and the hallways near the party. As soon as I got out into the back courtyard my framerate popped back up around 70. It wasn't unplayable, just annoying.
I'm not really looking for a solution so much as I'm curious as to whether anyone else has experienced this.
My rig:
CPU: i5-3570K @3.4GHz (no overclocking, though I do have a closed loop liquid cooler)
MOBO: ASUSTek P8Z77-V LX (Socket 1155 LGA)
RAM: Single channel 8GB stick (DDR3)
GPU: GTX 670 (2GB DDR5)
PSU: Coolermaster 1000 watt 80+ bronze rating (wanted headroom for more GPU)
OS: Win 7 64bit.
I do not have any mods that specifically affect the Thalmor Embassy or anything nearby. Indeed, I didn't have any problems in the area, except at the party (and the back halls) itself. I know that there are a lot of characters in that scene (a lot of models and scripts running, I'm sure) but I have mods that add dozens of NPCs to cities, towns and the road and they do not cause my framerate to plummet. I have one mod installed (Immersive Patrols, I believe) that spawns small to medium battles between Stormcloaks and Empire troops (usually around 30 vs. 30) and I can walk right through the middle of those fights and still keep my FPS above 60. So, why should the dozen odd models in the party scene cause my framerate to chug so bad?
-
I agree. Your rig, pardon, computer is just fine for Skyrim (which was released in an era when dual-cores still had parity in usage to quad-cores.)
I would NOT recommend ENBs. Also, do not add mods that add lots and lots of models (NPCs) as this can cause you to chug down into the teens or worse on your FPS.
Just limit your antialiasing (AA) and anisotropic filtering (AF) to 2 and 4 samples respectively (set in your "options") or lower if the framerate you get is unacceptable. Note that if you are using SKSE to launch your game, you will not be able to access your video options. To set your video options, use either the Steam launch button or Skyrim's own shortcut to the exe file. Go to options, see if your video card is shown and try the default options it offers. Close Skyrim and restart with SKSE. If you are getting excellent FPS (You can test with the free version of FRAPS) then back out of the game, go back into the start menu via the launch button and try manually moving up the detail and AA and AF up a notch each. Rinse and repeat until you get a good balance of playable framerate vs. detail.
Note: the size (and resolution) of your monitor will play a big part in what you can set your detail to.
-
There are good videos by Gopher and MXR on how to back up your game in case things go FUBAR on you whilst adding mods.
-
While I agree that the larger GPU is the better choice, you also need a half-decent processor.
Four cores operating at about 3.2GHz or better would be ideal. You can get by with a dual-core at 2.6 -but that would be the absolute minimum you should have. Anything that low means that your CPU will be the bottleneck in data throughput. Fortunately, quad-core chips (and their respective mobos) can be had at a reasonable price.

Both sides try to gain his loyalty, but if you side with the Empire it happens the other way around - Balgruuf sends Ulfric his axe as a gesture of peace, and Ulfric refuses it - ergo, he is the aggressor.
By that logic, if you were to extend an olive branch and it is refused, you're the aggressor. No, the aggressor is, and will always remain, the one who initiates conflict. Regardless of the side, Ulfric attacks Whiterun. He is the aggressor no matter what side you choose.
I'm not certain, but I think GetTheJojDone was actually referring to Ulfric as the aggressor with that sentence, therefore agreeing with you beforehand.
If I'm wrong... -whoops, never mind.

Me: (Looting Thalmor patrol)
Prisoner: "If you know any true..."
Me: "Yeah, yeah, I know. Like I haven't heard this line a hundred times before."
Prisoner: "...sons and daughters of Skyrim..."
Me: "Will you just shut up already?"
Prisoner: "...tell them to head to Windhelm, Jarl..."
Me: "Shut up, shut up, Shut Up!"
Prisoner: "...Ulfric Stromcloak wants..."
Me: "Arrrgh!" (STAB, STAB, STAB, STAB, STAB)
Prisoner: "OW, OW, OW, OW, OWIE!" (Thud)
Odahving: "You know, you're never gonna achieve CHIM with an attitude like that."

In the original post the OP stated, you should wait until you know more about both sides. It doesn't change facts, without the dragon attack you would be lying dead in Helgen.
While that is true, it does not (in my opinion) invalidate my advice. I wanted very badly to join the Stormcloaks right after escaping with Ralof. The only reasons I didn't was that I've greatly learned to distrust knee-jerk reactions (especially my own) and, well, because I was a lvl 1 noob that could be easily beaten up by any roving bandit (or a particularly tough Skeever.) I still believe that every player should play the main-quest through to completion (or at least near completion) and visit every city and town throughout Skyrim to "get the pulse" of the populace, and then make their decision to which side to join in the civil-war (or not to join at all.)
Everyone already knows my outlook. I sympathize with the Stormcloaks (and my character personally worships Talos) and I antagonize every roving band of Thalmor into attacking me (by simply standing my verbal ground when the Thalmor inevitably threaten me with that bullying sentence: "Perhaps you have something you wish to confess?") But, I will side with the Empire in the war because I believe that is not just Skyrim's best chance at remaining free when the Dominion attempts an invasion, but all of Tamriel's best chance at defense.
A lot of talk has been made on this thread (and I am so very grateful to everyone who has participated, whatever their outlooks) -especially about how we impose our own worldviews and personal desires on the world of Skyrim. I couldn't agree more. I am clearly imposing MY beliefs on top of this game. I have made up my mind what my character stands for, and why. I am literally writing my own adventure within this game. When the game ends (and with mods that is going to be a long, long time) I will append my own "epilogue" based on what I have done and what I believe should happen afterwards. In MY rendition, there will be an eventual conclusion to the civil war. I won't end up King (and really, who wants to sit in on meetings with advisers and important dignitaries all day. Sounds terribly dull to me.) Nor will I be a Jarl. I'll be loved and respected by many, resented by others and hated by a handful. Because that's human (and presumably Khajit, and Argonian and Elven, etc, etc) nature. In my game, Skyrim will (in some areas, sullenly) rejoin the empire. And I will fade into the outback to continue my war with the Thalmor. They will not be able to rail the empire about me, because I won't be anywhere they can "officially" find me. This will force the Thalmor to back off a bit (because, officially, the White-Gold treaty is once again being enforced) and Talos worship, though underground, will continue to flourish.
But I do not expect anyone else to share my views on the matter. Want to be a die-hard Stormcloak and purge Skyrim in steel and fire? That's perfectly valid as an ending as well. Whatever anyone thinks of Ulfric and Galmor, there's no reason why your game cannot end with you standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them as you first drive out the Empire, then the Dominion. You don't have to justify your view to anyone. And there is certainly historical precedent throughout our world to support either a Stormcloak or Empire victory.
In the end, it really doesn't matter what Bethesda says "officially" happens after Skyrim. This is your adventure. Make of it what you will.

Good point. Pity there isn't a scene at the Sleeping Giant inn early in the game where a Thalmor patrol walks in and starts harassing the barkeep for info about her whereabouts.
-
BTW, there is a mod you might find interesting in your style of play. It's called House of Horrors Alternate Ending.Do you mean THIS mod? If so, that's fantastic! Thanks for sharing that info.
-
My guess (and it's only a guess) is that as you pointed out, Delphine got out a lot during her attempts to find things (Esbern, dragons, other Blades survivors) -so it stands to reason that she must have visited Windhelm several (if not numerous) times. She probably introduced herself to Ulfric in a guise much the way she (apparently) interacted with Farengar.
So by the time of "Season Unending", Ulfric may have looked at her and said/thought "Oh, you. So that's what you were really about."
-
So sad that the good side has such pathetic rewards and quests though... They should have made it more like a detective quest where you spoil the assassination of the emperor or something.
What a fantastic idea! Someone please make a mod like that! I would do it if I knew how to use the CK and mod worth anything.
Don't tell me it can't be done. There's a quest in the vanilla game, I believe it's called "Blood on the Ice", where you investigate a slasher murder, track down the murderer (there's a red herring -you can get the wrong guy arrested) and, if you're quick enough, prevent another murder by taking out the murderer. Just apply that to tracking down DB members, foiling their assignments by either killing the assassin or taking them prisoner (beat them to the bleed-out state, then accept their surrender.)

Join Empire or Stormcloaks? My Thoughts
in Skyrim LE

Agreed. Although I think you're being too polite. I would use the term "Fugly" for the vanilla 'cloaks outfits. I mean, really... -the basic Stormcloak cuirass looks like it's spray-painted on.
You might remember that (as the OP) I mentioned that I had to remove Warzones from my first game at level 5 and restart. Well, MyGoodEye and Grand Bulwark completely overhauled the mod and now it works just fine. (I know, I beta tested it.) Anyway, the Armoury plug-in for the mod changes most of the 'nilla Stormcloak's outfits into much cooler looking armor (that actually looks like it's being worn as opposed to painted on them.) There's images (in the "User" section) that shows some of the new armor. But the best ones are what Raloff and Ulfric are wearing during the cart ride to Helgen. Raloff actually looks heroic now and Ulfric looks absolutely bad-ass. (Still a d**k though, IMO.)
Tell you what. I'll try to get some screen caps of the cart-ride intro with the mod added and come back here and paste them in.
