  1. Just about everyone here knows Gopher. And if you don't, watch some of his videos. Like THIS ONE.
  2. Since it doesn't seem to be mod related, let's explore hardware and software issues. GPU: What are the specs on your graphics card? If you only have 2GB of VRAM, this could be a symptom of running low on memory. If you have access to a GPU with a higher amount of VRAM (friend's, family member's) try installing it to see if the issue stops. If so, you need a beefier GPU. Monitor: Older monitors and TVs sometimes have issues running SSE correctly. Particularly if you're using a legacy cable like DVI or (shudder) VGA. If your GPU has a more modern connection port available (HDMI or DisplayPort) Try borrowing a more modern monitor/TV and connecting using the modern connectors. See if the issue persists. Sometimes it just requires a tweak of your monitor/TV's settings. (VSync, etc.) The settings aren't complex, so just experiment. PC Display Settings: It might be that you're running at a resolution that isn't working well. Or maybe something else (perhaps another game) has changed your monitor/TV's refresh rate from normal.
  3. Your Nexus installation may have lost track of your mod paths. Since you've already tried re-installing your mods and Skyrim, try re-installing Nexus Mod Manager THEN re-installing your mods. Also, be sure to clean your game's Steam cache before re-installing Skyrim SE.
  4. Yep. No more pre-loading of "content" onto your HD or SSD for PC users (thank goodness.) Bethesda patched that out of FO4 and Skyrim's CC launched with the "no pre-loading" already in place. However, console users may still have this issue. If so, I feel really sorry for them.
  5. I view posts when the title says something I think I might be able to help with. However, when I read the thread and see it's beyond my knowledge/skill level, - I don't reply. I can think of nothing more useless than replying to a plea for help with: "Nope, can't help. Good luck." Because when the poster sees a reply, they think: "Oooh, someone answered. I'm getting help!" Then they see the useless reply. That's got to be a let-down. So bear in mind that some (perhaps a significant amount) of viewers are people that checked to see if they could help, then did the polite thing and didn't reply when they saw it was beyond their ability.
  6. Like Roentgens says, if you do research and build your load order carefully, LE can look quite a bit better than SE. However, with SKSE being developed for SE, you can expect a LOT more mods to be ported and/or updated for SE. I believe the time that SE will equal LE in mod availability and appearance is rapidly approaching. Also, more current long-range mods are going to SE and will not be developed any further for LE. (Bruma is available for both LE and SE, but the rest of Cyrodil will only be released for SE.) So my advice is to go for SE. It's only going to improve with time and the stability is already there without having to spend tons of time to get it.
  7. Whatever GPU you end up getting (I recommend 1060 for budget, 1070 for enthusiast and 1080 for high-end) make sure it has 6GB of VRAM or better. Why? You can load up with hi-res texture mods and not have to worry about running out of VRAM. It used to be (not too long ago) that 4GB was the minimum. That's still acceptable for 1080p, but if you go for 1440 or better, 6GB is really the minimum your card should have.
  8. You're quite correct, from our (mortal) perpective. However, the Thalmor really believe they can all return to their original transcendent state as spirits out-of-time if they "cancel" time (thereby unmaking Nirn.) To them, this isn't an insane thing to do because (in their view) they aren't murdering anyone, they're just preventing mortal existence from ever coming to pass. Of course, that's all metaphysical bull**** from our point of view. They're wrong about what they think they'll get by achieving their goals. I can't go into THOSE details without getting too much into spoiler territory. Again, threads in the spoiler section can help you understand if you still want to pursue Thalmor objectives and what will probably actually happen to them. The Thalmor should really look to the example of the Dwemer for the fate of those who tamper with Things Men (and Mer) Were Not Meant To Know.
  9. Yeah, she's despised for many reasons. For example, many also thinks she is foolish for trying to resurrect an organization (The Blades) when its relevance in Tamriel (let alone the Empire) has long since died. BTW, are you aware of Arthrmoor's The Paarthurnax Dilemma? Fantastic mod that lets you tell Delphine (and Von Sydow... pardon, I meant Esbern) to shut the hell up about Paarthurnax because you're the Dragonborn and YOU said your decision is final. Ahh, now THAT was great when I got to do that to her.
  10. You are correct about them wanting to be "immortal" again. I recommend perusing the threads in the Spoiler section. Especially ones where Lachdonin has posted. They'll bring you up to speed on what the the Thalmor want. Some of them go into quite a bit of history of the Altmer (and how the Thalmor came to power.)
  11. There is little chance that LE will ever be offered as a single purchase again. And I wouldn't count on any sale. Remember, Steam has removed Oldrim from the normal search results. This is an indication that it will eventually be de-listed permanently. That's not guaranteed, of course. But it is highly probable. Bethesda WANTS us to move to SE. Because, of course, that's where the CC is. *K-ching, k-ching.*
  12. Mostly books. There are nearly a thousand books you can find and read in Skyrim (and that's not counting spell books.) Quite a few touch on the Merthic era and earlier. As you read, you start to understand WHY so many of the Altmer (especially the Thalmor) are so pissed off about being mortal. There's also a part of the main story line and several quests that gives you more info as you complete them. Of course if you can't wait, there's always the wiki.
  13. I agree. It's too bad that you have to buy the DLCs separately to get the "legendary" edition. Costs a lot more than when they had the whole kit-and-caboodle (yes, I say that. I'm old. Deal with it) for one low price. Man, we made out like bandits back in the day when we could buy LE for, what? About 25 bucks wasn't it? AND we got SE for free later. Whenever I wanna piss and moan about what Bethesda has been up to lately, I gotta remember THAT sweet deal...
  14. I'm also enjoying installing a lot of old games on my win10 rig and only having to run compatibility mode to get them working properly. My one gripe is that Win10 won't allow an old game that has a disc-check DRM to run. Microsoft considers those old DRMs to be security risks and your game simply won't run. Example, I can install my old Battlefield 1942 anthology, but it won't run because it wants the disc in the drive and Win10 says "nuh, uh". Most annoying. Yeah, I know there are workarounds, but it would be far more convenient if Microsoft simply had an option to allow disc-checking like they did in Win7 (and, I think, Win8) that you could simply toggle on when you wanted to play an old game. Still, gotta be grateful for what we're getting...
  15. Since this thread has touched on the subject of dead and/or abandoned mods, I'll mention that modders do have a tendency to notice when a popular mod has disappeared and try to create something similar to take it's place. For example: When CWO was taken down by its author (let's not get into why, please) -it wasn't long before an even better mod (IMO) came along. I'm referring to Open Civil War by simtam. Yeah, it functions a lot differently than CWO (and better IMO) but at it's base, it does nearly the same thing that CWO did. Which was to overhaul the Civil War to be something epic and fluid (which was what Bethesda programmers wanted, but had to cut out a lot to make that dorky 11-11-11 deadline.) To paraphrase someone else here at the forums: The CC is aimed primarily at the console users and is mostly a non-issue for us PC users. It took me awhile to calm down and see the "win-win" side of this. But hey, even us old farts can eventually settle down and see reason.
  16. Also, just to cover all bases, post your rig's stats. CPU, GPU (especially VRAM), etc. For example, if your GPU only has 2 or 3 GB of GDDR5, and you're running a heavy mod list (lots of texture overhauls, for example) you could simply be running out of memory. That's a sure-fire CTD right there.
  17. Also, (assuming you have Win 10) Microsoft is actually releasing incremental beta's of Win 10 with a DX9 fix. What that means (when it goes mainstream in an update) is that you will no longer be limited to only 4GB of memory usage in your DX 9, 32bit games (of which Skyrim LE is) for your graphics. This means less crashing due to memory running out due to a demanding mod load order in your game. So, as Kazuya482 says, if you have a beefy rig you'll get more out of the older Skyrim with less fussing over load order. OTOH, I've decided to move on over to SE myself for the following reasons: 1. SE is more stable. I know there are those who disagree, but the responses here on the forums indicate that the vast majority of players are experiencing more stability with SE over LE with similar mod load orders. 2. Creation Club WAS a huge issue for PC users when it first launched. (FO4 players got it up the rear big-time.) But Bethesda has rescinded some of the bad decisions they made. For example, mods are no longer pre-loaded onto your PC's drive, whether you want them or not. Console users are still stuck with this issue though. Also, additions to the CC will no longer always affect your update files (which is what can break some mods and script extenders.) This CAN sometimes still happen. But the recent work and quick responses by the SKSE team shows that these issues will often be fixed within a day. Remember, this is what also happened in the early days of Skyrim when the updates and bug fixes were coming several times a month. 3. Speaking of SKSE, it is now in Alpha for SE. Many modders of popular mods have already posted updates to work with the current Alpha (for those who want to experiment) so that you can start using MCMs and the like again. I've decided that I'll wait for the stable beta to come out and then build a new mod list. However, for the time-being, LE does offer you a LOT more mods currently. This will change eventually (and not to far in the future with SKSE being developed.) tl;dr: SE is more stable and will eventually surpass LE in number of useful mods that LE has. CC issues are no longer that bad since Bethesda back-pedaled concerning PC users. LE has more useful mods right now and may soon be as stable as SE even with a heavy mod order thanks so the upcoming DX9 fix. If you decide on LE, be sure to get Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn DLCs to get maximum access to available mods. Hope that helps with your decision. Edited because my grammar sucks worse than the last episode of Voyager. (Runs away yelling "Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!")
  18. It's known to many of the "movers-and-shakers" (Jarls, Kings, etc.) or at least suspected, -but not so much to the general populace. YOU figure it out quick because of all the info and events your character is exposed to. But for much of the common folk, simply living life precludes much of the time and activities necessary for them to start understanding what the Thalmor are truly trying achieve. To the average Nord, the only thing they absolutely know is that the Thalmor are forbidding them to worship as they please and therefore threatening their freedom. They're not really able to see the "big picture" that you can. I wish Lachdonin was still active around here. He could explain it in much better detail.
  19. I haven't tried this, but I wonder if it's possible to use Arthmoor's Live Another Life - Alternate Start in conjunction with the race and clothing menu mods to choose the clothing BEFORE the Helgen scene (assuming you pick the vanilla start.) Would the vanilla start then override you and put the beggar's clothes back on you? I'm curious to know if anyone else has tried this. Because some of the posters above are right. It doesn't make sense for you to be in beggar's clothes while the Stormcloaks maintain their armor. If anything, the Imperials would strip THEM down and force them to dress in rags before they would Lokir.
  20. It's funny to drop stuff in a crowded market square. You'll get everything from some well-mannered townie chasing you down to hand the item back to you, to guards fining you for littering, to knock-down, drag-out fights between two (or more) townies. To me, the funniest fights are when two kids go hammer-and-tongs at each other for whatever I dropped.
  21. Thanks! I knew there had to be a reason. Just didn't know what it was. Small wonder that CD Projekt Red is so well thought of.
  22. 40k (and Warhammer Fantasy) are copyrighted material that GW is very sensitive about protecting. Yes, I know that Gary's Mod is chock-full of copyrighted models from other games, especially GW stuff. But that doesn't necessarily follow here at the Nexus. The TOS is very clear about not allowing porting of models from other games. (Which is what I presume you mean by "import some of the warhammer 40k stuff".) Making new mods BASED on GW stuff is still not probably going to happen. For example, using named characters from 40K or Warhammer Fantasy would still be a copyright issue. "Wood Elf" is generic, true. But saying "Wood Elf War Dancer" would definitely be encroaching on GW's copyright. Having said all that, if you type "The Witcher" into the search box in the Nexus mods section, you'll get a LOT of mods of costumes, weapons and armor that are clearly identical to those in The Witcher games. Yet if you type "40k" or "Warhammer Fantasy" you'll get nothing. So why can some games have ported (or rather "re-modelled") material and others not? Damifino. Maybe one of the moderators can explain it better for you. But here's something you might find interesting: Warhammer Gameroom by Gutmaw. Oh, also, be sure to put mod requests in the mod request sub-forum. You'll get more responses.
  23. Some mice (like my Logitech G403) have a quick-setting button (usually located just behind the scroll-wheel) for adjusting your mouse speed. In the case of my mouse, it has four settings. The lowest one is obnoxiously slow. I clicked it once by accident and was promptly eaten by a troll because I couldn't turn around and didn't understand what happened to me. Something similar happened to one of my friends. Only he says that Skyrim had automatically set the mouse's quick setting to the lowest one. Once he figured it out, he set it back to normal with a few clicks of that button. Maybe this is the issue the OP is having?
  24. Thanks! While 250 odd mods is plenty enough for me currently, it's nice to have options if I ever get ambitious. Yeah, I hear you. It's way, WAY above my skills. (Which, to be honest, ends at a simple bashed patch.) Your English is just fine.
