Adding birthsigns to Oblivion successfully
kevin974 replied to Squeakurs's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
I know this thread is pretty old but I was wondering if you had any success with this. I bought Oblivion when it first came out(on dvd) and never had a problem adding a couple of birthsigns then. I bought Skyrim through Steam earlier this year(and got Morrowind & Oblivion GOTY editions with it) and now can't seem to get it to work. Actually I have had quite a few problems getting some mods to work with the Steam edition but usually find a workaround or accidentally got them to work. My dvd player wont load the Oblivion dvd otherwise I would just intall that way but, oh well. -
I voted for the 3rd option I don't really have a major problem with steam, but have had a few bad experiences, most came from when there were steam(not game) updates that ended up messing with options I had set(mostly allowing games to update automatically which, I abhor). Steam is not very helpful(at least in my experience) when having a problem running a game that my pc should have no problem running, they usually pass the buck to the developers. I have no problem buying a game through steam and with games you can't ALT-TAB out of while running, such as Fallout NV, it was actually handy because I could use the steam browser while playing. I think steam has it's advantages and disadvantages but I would like to see it made so that if I do purchase a game through them I don't have to play it through them.

Like Martian I skipped the 1.2 and then got 1.3. I havent any texture issues, loss of button functionality or fps loss(at least nothing noticeable anyways) and really like being able to use my mouse in menus, but in the 3 hours I have played I've had 3 ctds. With the initial 1.1 I had maybe 4 ctds in one complete playthrough and half another. Am goingn to keep playing for a few days to see if the ctds work themselves out, if not I will revert back to 1.1(fortunately I had the foresight to back up the whole game directory before patching ;) ) Edit: found out crashes may be due to enbseries mod, which has been updated. Will be applying update to see if it stops the ctds, and if not will remove it to see if it is really the culprit(would hate to have to remove it permanently since it really made my game 100% better in 1.1).

I don't want to work for Maven Black-Blair!

Well dang that kinda spoils it for me, too. Not that I'm a goody goody charachter, I did join the brotherhood after all and am enjoying my run in there, but I joined the thieves guild too with hopes of sabotaging their operations. Oh well, guess I'll just have to see their quest lines through to the end, even if I do think they are a bunch of unorganised rift raft ;) -
OK after quite a bit of searching the net and fiddling with the settings I have stumbled across something that worked for me. The beams still don't show up all that great but you can at least see them, at least enough so I could finish the quest anyways. There were a few different things I stumbled across from taking the easy way and console comanding(is that even a term, lol) in the next stage of the quest, to using TWF(toggle wire frames) in the console. The TWF was a bit confusing so I don't really recommend that. What I did was I went to the options from the loader and clicked advanced, in the detail tab I set everything to low or none and made sure nothing was checked. The beams showed up enough to see them when standing at the buttons, but were still a bit hard to see if standing underneath the focusing crystal. I couldn't hit the crystal from the buttons so I had to run back and forth, hit the crystal from underneath it, run back to the buttons to se the results. It's not a perfect solution or even a real good one, but it got me past it. All I can say for now is if you are having the same problem as me and the OP try it, it may work for you. I know once the CK is out this will be one thing I'll be looking for a fix for, even if I have to do it myself. :) EDIT: Check out this graphical fix if you are experiencing the beams not showing up. After installing it my default settings went from low to high and I could set my textures and shadows both to high and the beams showed up pretty brilliantly :) http://enbdev.com/download_en.htm (I believe there is one in the files section of the nexus site, but this page has the newest updates)

I'm not sure what the real issue is but I too am having the same problem. My guess is I have an older graphics(ATI Radeon HD 3600) card so it isn't rendering properly, I have messed with the options with the loader (low, medium, high, ultra) and if I set it to low I can just barely see where the lights shine when I place the crystal but it hasn't been enought to actually finish this part yet. I will continue to investigate and if I come up with a solution I will post it, if someone else doesn't get to it first. EDIT: Just found out my drivers for my graphics card had an update on 11-16-11, shortly after Skyrim was released, been too busy playing to notice that, lol. I am DL'ing them now afterwards I will update this with my results, good or nonexistent. Nope update didn't fix it although at least now when I put in the focusing crystal I can sort of see where the lights go to briefly, but still it's not enough to actually finish this quest up.

Armor Tec: Hair or no hair where or what is the trigger?
kevin974 replied to Arkune's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
My game is unmodded as of yet, but just wanted to throw in my 2 cents on this since I just noticed that when I wear my Dragonplate Helmet my hair pokes through(in the front) but the ponytail doesn't. This is the first helmet I've seen that this happen on. This leads me to believe that there are two hair/head slots(or something equivalent) and the helms use the slot that the ponytails do. This could open up a slew of possibilities, or cause problems, for replacing or adding new hair and/or helmet meshes. Of course this is all speculation on my part right now and I prolly wont tinker with the game till after my initial run through, but it seems logical in my mind. ;) -
Well when I first booted it up(PC Version) the launcher went with low settings for the default! Now I admit my pc isn't top notch but I do have a quad core @ 2.4gh with 4 gb of ram and an older ati radeon HD 3600. Well when I started playing with the low settings the look was horrid. I exited and messed with the low, med, high & ultra settings and finally ended with a modified ultra setting that plays smooth and looks great. The UI bugs me to no end, I really hate not being able to click on stuff with my mouse but I have adapted. I havent remapped any keys or looked at my key bindings yet but I'm sure I will eventually. I think it's kinda weird that during the loading screens you can zoom in and rotate most of the objects they show but so far I can only do a quick zoom with no rotating of the things in my inventory. I've noticed that a lot of npcs walk around a little stiffly with their chest puffed up and that kinda bugs me, they should be more fluid IMO. The gameplay so far I really like although I think it's almost to easy to get too many quests. I guess maybe I have a little OCD when it comes to quests but I've done 12 so far(not including who knows how many miscellaneous quests) and still have 18 in my journal with 3 in the misc category. I do like that they have carts that will take you to a main city, even if you havent been there yet, if you don't feel like travelling on foot and it awesome the included duel wielding :) . A little disappointed that the CK is taking so long to come out but what can you do. All in all I've been playing for 5 days now with no crashes, a few glitches: npc getting spawned inside of rocks or buildings and a dungeon respawning critters and resetting a quest dialogue that was already completed(it was kinda funny though cause some of the npcs who were suppose to be working in the cave were running around scared to death and yelling for mercy and others were stalking and fighting the critters while spouting what sounded like bandit and marauder lines, lol), but nothing major to ruin it for me. For now I'll keep playing it as is and once I get that first run through, hopefully the CK will be out then the real fun of these kind of games can begin ;)

I have the pc version and have been playing for a few days now. I don't know if this will help but I have learned 3 different shouts so far, the force, fire and ice shouts but I have only killed the dragon in Whiterun(I believe). When prompted to select a shout for the dragon soul I recieved it would not let me pick any but the force shout. So I'm thinking that either you must pick the force shout first or the souls correspond with certain shouts. If this helps great, if not sorry for wasting your time and good luck.

Sounds like your looking for something like MTUI(which I use) or a mod that incorporated Darnified UI(I used this with FO3) I may be mistaken but FOOK may also do something with menus, I know they changed quite a few loading screens along with a whole bunch of other things. Good luck finding what you're looking for.

Just wanted to say I appreciate the direct link, I recently added the Honest Hearts DLC and it broke my GECK, I looked in my steam account and on the Fallout site but could't find the new version, so Thanks again all seems to be working properly now :)

I don't know about that...I admit I have absolutely no experience with GECK but have modded Oblivion enough to be comfortable with it. I tried to make a pair of uniqe glasses by opening the sunglasses in GECK changing the ID, name, AR, Health, Value and adding an object effect but in game the glasses ended up hanging verically from one ear, the original fit normally. there must be something more to it.........
