  1. Are the Quadro and Tesla series cards better than the Geforce GTX series? I see them listed as "professional" cards, but is that because they're better quality cards, or do they just serve a different purpose, like being more durable. I see a lot of them listed as for workstations, which makes me think quality isn't as big a deal as being durable and being able to run for a long time. For me personally, I don't always need the most high quality graphics (within reason) as much as I want my programs to run smoothly and quickly. A lot of the so called high quality mods don't do anything for me. I see direct comparisons to the stock graphics and yeah, the stock graphics look a bit stretched, by comparison, but they also BOTH look like textures I would see in real life when looking at things like the straw on a house roof or the wood on the side of a house. My last two cards were NVidia and I prefer them over the others. If I have one complaint from all the computer part manufacturers over the last decade it's the way they've gone away from having progressive model numbers. I realize there are a lot of cards that do a lot of different things, the same with processors, etc. but I feel like there ought to be a better hierarchy structure for consumers.
  2. I'm not familiar with the combat profiles, but typically whenever you duplicate something in the CK, the easiest way I've found is to locate it in the object window and then double click on it (as if you were going to rename something in windows.) Then rename it and instead of renaming the item it actually duplicates it. KingsGambit's post definitely has some good stuff as far as specifics on actually editing the combat fields and I'm sure you can find more help on this here.
  3. To distill down what KingGambit is saying, it sounds like you're changing the right fields, but the fields available won't do what you want and you need to look into either modifying the existing combat profiles or create a new one.
  4. Can someone tell me how to find the list of topics I'm watching? On the main forum page there's a small box, but it doesn't seem to have all my watched topics in it as near as I can tell.
  5. And I would argue that much like copyright laws, intent doesn't matter much. You were arguing the right to use these works because they fall under fair use. Someone with less common sense reading the thread might just take you up on it. I tend to err on the side of caution myself.
  6. I don't see any point in arguing the merits of what you're saying. I just wish you wouldn't try to parade your ideas for others to ignorantly follow. The law is always going to err on the side of those who created said properties. Since you quoted the first part, I might as well quote the last... From the US copyright web page: When it is impracticable to obtain permission, you should consider avoiding the use of copyrighted material unless you are confident that the doctrine of fair use would apply to the situation. The Copyright Office can neither determine whether a particular use may be considered fair nor advise on possible copyright violations. If there is any doubt, it is advisable to consult an attorney. http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html
  7. There's no gray area in the law. Intent of the framers, or the violator doesn't often matter either. Just because something seems too silly to convict doesn't mean it can't happen. If you're intent on pursuing something like this, you should do so going into it knowing it's a risk and you better have the common sense to pull the material if you DO get noticed. I already gave 3 examples of when this has happened, and it will happen again.
  8. A while back I worked out how to turn a two handed sword into a one hander, and vice versus when nobody wanted to answer me when I asked how to do it. I posted the steps in this thread: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/600056-using-two-handed-sword-as-one-handed/page__p__5478359__fromsearch__1#entry5478359 What I found was that it's basically a variable in the .nif that determines if it's a one or two handed mounting position. The CK allows you to designate whether or not a blade is two handed or not as well. Maybe there's a way you can use the information in that thread to alter the way your weapon works or not. I don't know. As you can see by reading the thread I tried to use a custom .nif to achieve this and ran into problems when I tried to do it halfway.
  9. I came across these tutorials, apparently from the creator of the Mechanical Dragon mod: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/24587 I haven't been able to make the process work for me, but maybe someone else can. I can create a new creature in the CK with no problem, but when I try to change the mesh I get bs lighting shader errors and complaints that there are too many bones. Still trying to work this thing out using what I learned from Nightasay's tutorials and these tutorials.
  10. Are you only trying to change the dimensions of certain bones or scale the whole thing? If you want to scale the whole thing, I'd shrink the model to fit the skeleton and then scale it back up in the CK. Would probably help if you mentioned if you're using 3ds max, Maya, or Blender, although that screenshot looks like 3ds max to me.
  11. Even if all your stuff is original, there's still the possibility of copyright infringement. Technically characters, etc. belong to the original authors. There is precedent for this from the authors of Harry Potter, The Pern series and if I'm not mistaken recently, Warner Bros. shut down a LotR Skyrim conversion just recently. Nexus will allow it if your meshes and textures are original as stated above, but real copyright issues are more complicated.
  12. Anything's possible if you're willing to manually merge them in the CK and you have permission of both authors. If you're looking for something automatic, I wouldn't know what might be able to do that. Presumably you're asking because there are conflicts between the two mods where they both replace the same items, otherwise it would work by load order I would guess.
  13. Never gonna happen. You just described a mod that allows all bits and pieces from various mods that were even created to replace one another (like mentioning UNP and CBBE) to all work together at the click of a button with no clipping. Even the stock armors can't all be mixed and matched without clipping. Don't believe me try putting the hide gauntlets on the daedric armor and watch your arms disappear, or try putting a redguard headwrap on any number of armors. Best you can hope for is pick the selection you want and maybe someone out there nice might be willing to tweak those mods to fit that one character you design. You'll never get point and click mesh compatibility like you're asking for. Far too much work and far too many variables.
  14. Puffy is easy for me. I have trouble making the stuff fit tightly. All I use is garment maker and the stuff generally comes out puffy already.
  15. I'm not the one who made a big stink about the UI. Read it again. All I said was, "I don't see a problem with the UI because I use a 360 controller like the game was developed for" That's it. And I stand by my response that Bethesda should not be held accountable for developing a system that isn't designed to cater to disabilities. That is a beyond unreasonable request. They don't design hardware, they write software. As for not being "nice" as you put it, I didn't start the nastiness either. That was already here in this thread, except it was directed at Bethesda. All I did was attempt to defend them for making a great game. Don't pretend that the responses to me weren't confrontational (and that's putting it politely) because I don't think a certain someone knows how to frame a response without being confrontational. That's what they've advised throughout the whole thread and its no coincidence they're most active in the debate forum. Here's how this is going to end. I'm going to make an addition to my ignore list, and I'm going to opt to not post anymore in this thread, because clearly nothing good can come of it. If anyone cares that much about anything I said here, that's what PM is for.
  16. As usual, it's all about you. YOU have a friend who works at a software store so everyone elses information is irrelevant. YOUR bugs aren't fixed, so Bethesda is incompetent. Etc. etc. Again. Not talking about the DLC. First off, Bethesda should not have to cater to disabilities, and the expectation that they should is utterly and completely ridiculous. Should they start making special copies for people who are color blind? How about special copies for people with only one hand? I can't believe you ever had the nerve to go there. Your arthritis is YOUR problem. You should be coming up with accomodations that suit you. Not blaming Bethesda. Personally I think a medical condition would trump me trying to play video games, but hey. They're not my priorities. I like playing basketball too, but I'm 50 lbs overweight and have bad feet. I think I'm gonna write a letter to Huffy and complain that they don't make their basketball hoops 5 feet off the ground so I can sit on my ass and shoot. As a matter of fact, the idea that someone has arthritis and they're complaining about the 360 is another absurdity to me. You're honestly telling me that cramping your left hand up to use the WASD setup is better for you than a gamepad? Really? I seriously can't believe you're making this argument.
  17. I don't know what to tell you. It took something like 9 months for them to iron out the stock game to the point where the majority of the stuff was fixed and they're still patching it. Dawnguard is going to take them longer. Especially since there's still a possibility they're trying to tweak the code to make it work on PS3. If that IS the case, and they are tweaking the code still, then you can bet Dawnguard fixes are going to be few and far between until its sorted. It just makes sense from a business standpoint not to release patches for code that's going to change. Particularly since it costs a ton of money to release patches on the consoles. I think it's about 40 grand per patch on XBox Live alone.
  18. No, I'm not a "chosen few." I'm just someone who happens to enjoy the stock game. You know why I don't bother with the troubleshooting forum? Because the majority of the time I see someone list a bug it almost always comes back to mods. They start out claiming they're basically running a stock setup, but then when you start pressing them, they admit that oh... well they are running this mod and that mod, but they never had a problem with them before, yadda yadda. It's also pretty well documented that you have to really know what you're doing to uninstall the software and start over because there's a lot of config files that get filed under windows UAC or Steam's backup files (something people are apparently offended by to begin with, because casual gamers are horrible people and Bethesda isn't allowed to be a real company and have to answer to copyrights or worry about the payroll it would require to develop two different versions of the game for their main audience and people who want to be able to adjust and customize everything  ) So maybe you aren't running mods now, but that doesn't mean you didn't at some point and something is still floating around. I'm not even willing to have this debate with you. We'll just have to agree to disagree, because I don't trust that anyone is actually running a stock setup on a modding forum to claim that they have a "stock" bug. And like I said above, I was not making any claims about Dawnguard. I was talking about the stock game. I also seem to have a great deal more patience than the average person. A little slow down now and then doesn't bother me. Stuff in my quest journal that shouldn't be doesn't bother me. Stuff that people claim "ruins immersion" (God I DESPISE that word) doesn't bother me. So what if I can't drop Gallus's journal, and I don't see a problem with the UI because I use a 360 controller like the game was developed for. I guess I'm just a lot more open minded than the average gamer.
  19. Ok. This is news to me. I was always under the impression you couldn't even start the quest until level 15. I never tried. My only suggestion would be to use the console to start the quest.
  20. And you're ignoring the fact that I said multiple times, the STOCK game is getting pretty bug free. I also mentioned at least once that they haven't addressed the DLC's much yet. Yeah, you've made it clear before that you feel that complaining is your duty. Unfortunately my counter argument hasn't changed. There's a difference between reporting a bug and complaining. There's a difference between riding a topic into the ground and discussing something. If I produced something for the general public and all they did was complain that would not motivate me to make it better, that would motivate me to stop wasting my time on people who clearly don't appreciate what I'm trying to do. Now if someone came to me and said, "I love your product, but I wish it could do this..." we might start getting on the same page. I have yet to see you say anything positive about Skyrim on these boards and I can't help but wonder why you bother to play at all. EDIT: And after coming home from work today and fussing with 3ds max for a while I decided to open the CK, and low and behold, an update. After launching I loaded up the Skyrim.esm, Dawnguard, update, and hearthfire along with the one single mod I use (self created) and it fired right up.
  21. Well maybe my words didn't pop out at you the way they were supposed to, but perhaps next time since you don't know me from sam you should ask for clarification instead of jumping to conclusions? For starters you seem to take my post out of context and assume it's entirely directed at you, when our discussion was to me, clearly based on the conversation that started with me addressing Janus, and then Ginny who decided to address what I said. If you're going to continue a conversation that someone else started, and defend some of what they said, then you can't assume everything is going to be directed at you. All that aside, what I was trying to say was just what you claimed you were doing in your next post: Taking the good with the bad. The problem with the people in this thread is if the bad outweighs the good, what are they doing here? Why are they playing the game hour after hour? It's kinda like the old saying, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Except we all know nobody wants to listen to a squeaking wheel, particularly if the car has run great for 100,000 miles. When I do the sums in my head, the good in Skyrim far outweighs the bad. I feel I can without becoming a "fanboy" discuss the bad in Skyrim and come to the conclusion that Bethesda did an overall good job (specifically in addressing bugs). I feel that a lot of people have cloudy judgement because they've made modifications to their versions and I don't see any reason why Bethesda should be held responsible for that. I don't know how anyone running a modded version of the game has any kind of credibility in calling the game buggy to begin with since they're not running the stock game. If you want to address what you see as problems with the game, all well and good, but some of these people seem to take it as their personal mission in life to put down Bethesda as much as they can every time they see something new come out, and I for one find it getting very old.
  22. Oh the irony of calling my post assuming and then labeling it rude and offensive.
  23. IMO, you also have an obligation as a human being to be realistic and in some regards, appreciative. Yes, Skyrim is buggy, but they've also been diligent since the get go to fix those issues and as I said in my post above, most of the stock bugs have been fixed. They haven't addressed much from the DLC's yet, true, but the stock game is in very good shape for those of us who don't use mods. And as you said, Bethesda IS a business. Right now they're selling more copies of Skyrim than a lot of other companies out there. That says their business is successful. It's successful for a reason. For the reason I tried to point out in my response to Janus. Nobody is doing it better, regardless of whether you guys think its mediocre. It IS a business and they DO have deadlines to meet, and monetary limits to what they can and can't do. You guys may think the game doesn't live up to your standards, but they have basically answered every single complaint that was made about Oblivion and tried to come up with new features to add to the game. Appreciate it for what it is. A fantastic game that the creators allowed you to build and expand on, or choose to dwell on the negatives, most of which will be fixed by Bethesda or a modder by the time the final copy is done anyways. It's your choice, but if you're going to choose to complain about it, don't expect me or anyone else to just fall in line and agree with you or even appreciate listening to all the negative complaints on a day to day basis from people who have probably spent more time playing this year than they probably have any other game in their collection.
  24. I've never gotten a letter on 5 or 6 different characters. Actually, IIRC doesn't he send you off on another quest the moment you give it to him?
  25. I highly doubt that a game created in 2006 meets Skyrim's level of entertainment, but having not played it, I can't really make that claim now can I? Maybe I'll get to check it out at some point.
