I guess I can't help but put my two cents in here. My stand on this;
A-I would love a system that could tell me what I did wrong.
B-I would love a system that would tell me what they did wrong.
I spent a career working in advanced electronics and computers. I operated Grumann and General Dynamics Systems that would make the computer in front of you look like a wrist watch compared to a NASA launch Simulator. One was called a H.A.T.S. (Hybrid Automatic Test Station). They are used to troubleshoot and anaylyze. Even with all of that power the best it can do is come up with a PCOF (probable cause of failure).
Each PC has a completely different hardware and BIOS setup even when running the exact version of software. Start throwing in third party software and it becomes a nightmare beyond description. Yes, there is information that can be obtained from a crash, but what it means is an entirely different matter. I was in a buddys car once that stopped running as it was going down the road. The on-board computer he had suddenly stated in its' computer voice that the car had stopped running. Seriously! I still to this day wonder how much money was spent on research and production of that system just so we could be told the obvious without any useful information.
Back to A and B above. I would love to have something like that, but at what costs? Keep in mind also that information is only useful to the user if it can be 'used' and understood.
Each PC is different. I currently have 105 Mods running in my game with almost 350hrs playing time. I have zero CTDs' and zero LAG. I run on Ultra High. I'm not bragging I'm just pointing out that you can run Mods in Skyrim without issues. I can list all of my procedures for Mod useage but they would apply to only a tiny (if that) percentage of players because each PC is different.
So here it is: The ultimate (not all, so don't frag me) responsibility belongs to the end user. That's you if you're reading this. Study everything available concerning any Mod you may install. Save, test, save, test, save, test. If it produces any error or issues, delete. Read all the forums you can. Ask questions, lots of them. And in the end you still won't have any guarantee. You can't just keep stacking Mods willy nilly on a software engine and then freak out when it S***s the bed!
To the OP: I can understand your frustration. IMHO the best resource for fixing your game is right here on the NEXUS. I am constantly impressed with the level of knowledge presented here and the willingness to help others. I gathered most of my Skyrim knowledge just by reading the forums here.
Now...let's all go play Skyrim!

Manual saves at doors, transactions and probable events is a great suggestion. I have practiced this on both playthroughs so far without any savegame issues. My current one is at 747 saves. All manual no quick or auto saves.
I would suggest using Savegame Scanner http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=15054
With this small but very useful utility you can rebuild your game from any save since each save contains a lot of data about modifications that most people don't even know is there. I know I didn't until I discovered this utility.
If your Hard Drive doesn't have enough space just use cd/dvds to store the saves. That way you create a permanent record of your playthrough.
p.s. I know this doesn't solve your current problem, sorry.

You didn't actually state which Horse Mods you use/have used.
I have http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10579 Better Horses installed and it is awesome! I can call my horse from anywhere, repeat, ANYWHERE in Skyrim. And my companions horse will follow. This has worked for hundreds of hours now under all conditions. I have been tempted to try some others out there but don't want to give up what works.
p.s. Mod has other features too.

I don't see why the trailer would 'impress' PC Skyrim players, at best im expecting the expansion/DLC to add new enemies/follower minions like seen in the gamer jam, a few new ruined buildings, fauna and flora, quests and gameplay features from the crossbow etc.
The Nexus holds loads more potential to some DLC which is probably going to be marketed towards the consoles so that players can get 'more cooler armour and stuff' rather then PC gamers who already have this and want a lot more for their £13.00/$20.00 such as the abilty to explore Cyrodill or something which hasnt been seen before. The trailer looks biased towards evil based characters as well, which means you would need to start a new save just for the DLC which isnt very logical because it just shows how restrictive the content is..
The trailer also seems to be overly cinematic to make it seem more exciting and doesn't explain what the DLC will contain and it includes mounted combat as a 'feature' even though its being released in patch 1.6! & i raged at MicroShaft's cheek to put in a lame kinect ad in at the end, im happy enough shouting aloud i don't need hardware to do it.. -_-
ummm..YEP! Modders Rule. Period.

I am looking froward to the DLC. If (big IF) Beth incorporates much of the Vampire lore that exists out there we could have some pretty cool powers to play with! If they just employ the ole "I vant to suck your blood" theme it might be pretty lame. I hope not. At least we aren't too far away from finding out. Count on me to wait and see what the bugginess factor is before I install it tho. Hopefull it von't suck too bad.

Don't be afraid to use console comamds. Just be careful. And yes you can do things to your game that could cause you to re-install. But as long as you're careful, read everything and ask question (like you are now ) you'll be ok.
I am by no means an expert on console command useage. I use it with caution and I haven't had a problem yet. The camera functions you are intrested in are pretty tame so I wouldn't freak out. I use them all the time. Go slowly and have some fun taking some great pics. Would love to see your work.
-
First a word of caution: Console commands are serious stuff...USE WITH CAUTION! They can break your game.
When you are using 'Toggle Commands' they 'toggle' settings on and off (or vice versa)
So use your above procedure then reverse order, enter commands again to revert back to normal op.

I know just how you feel. Instead of telling you how to that do this instead:
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Console
I printed it out for easy reference, only 17pgs. It is not actually an exuastive/complete listing but it is very user friendly!

By the way NOESM, I should have noted that I never fast travel. I'm not claiming that it will cause problems with your save files but I have noticed that many problems reported have fast travel usage in common. That isn't saying much without real data to back it up, but my current playthrough has zero problems after over 300 hrs. and 95 Mods installed.
(Of course that isn't the only reason I am error free. That would require a whole new topic!)
@REDRAVYN
LMAO Yeah I know what ya mean, I'm 54.

First of all I want to be clear that I do not want to debate exactly what all the aforementioned percentages mean or don't mean. My two cents on the general subject of statistics;
When I took statistical math in college I came to the conclusion that:
A) You can take numbers and make them imply anything you want.
example-"one in four dentists recommend using this toothbrush" Does that mean they talked to every Dentist in the country or did they in fact only talk to four Dentists? (Yes there are rules that govern this type of statistical reporting but they rarely tell you or they hide it in very fine print or wording that mis-leads)
B) It is almost impossible to account for every variable thus making numerical statements vague at best.
(even when you account for a variable you just added a new set of variables attached to the accounting method :wallbash: )
C) Numerical ratings created from polling are always based on personal views/data/useage/etc.
"One mans trash is another mans treasure."
No matter how you judge the OP or posted comments to the OP it shows that we care about the work that Modders put into creating Mods for everyone. I can assure you that I do!

I am very much into immersion and have my timescales adjusted. I have played hundreds of hours with zero issues. As I understand it you just can't adjust it (well, you can) to reflect actual time passage...ie 1min.=1 min.
Other than that you should be OK
Now if I can just find a MOD to adjust real life timescale

Sergeant Rock, Fistbump right back at ya!

It's been my experience that most console and PC games are tame. It's the multiplayer online that I'd be careful of with minors. The language alone is enough to make even me blush and I was in the Army for 26 years. Vanilla Skyrim is very tame and there is no multiplay so it's all good. Something like the GTA series is a different story. ;)
Retired Navy for me. Yeah...she's not even allowed to go on the internet unsupervised. There are just too many predators out ther just prowling around.
I personally don't care for forums or chat sites. The Nexus seems to be a cut above what is out there. Sure they have some adult content but they strive to seperate it from the general material. Currently they are working to improve that even more. I find that appealing. Instead of just caving in to one groups view and squashing creativity they strive to make it work for all.
Censorship is the guardians' responsibility. No one can guide the child better. Censorship requires explanation and reasoning, otherwise it promotes mystery and desire to explore without your knowledge in a young mind. I think we can all admit we have discovery and exploration stories from our childhood. This is normal in a child. Our thinking is not to act like they won't explore if we just censor everything, but guide them instead. Otherwise what is wisdom for if not to guide and teach those in search of knowledge?
K still has many restrictions. You won't see her here on the Nexus. She wishes it were otherwise but understands she isn't ready yet. She is really enjoying the responses she has received to her interview that I relate to her. She finds the idea of Modding fascinating and the people authoring them incredible. She makes me read Mod descriptions to her over and over. Then says' "I'm gonna do that."
Again my thanks go out to your wonderful responses and to all the wonderful creators out there inspiring my granddaughter to think and believe in herself. Your work does more than just get used. It inspires the gift of creativity.

I hope she gets into modding herself! She seems super bright and I bet she'd have even more fun creating the mod she wishes existed.
For the record: she is studying the CK every day. To quote "I can probably write the MOD myself as soon as I have a little time to learn the CK. If someone beats me to it then I will just collaborate with them and make it even better...no big deal."

K is an extremely bright young lady. She gets straight A's in school, participates in atheletics, music, Girl Scouts and helps with the elderly at various centers. She currently tests three levels higher than her grade. She is well behaved, bright and well spoken. She excels in math and reading and plans to be a teacher some day.
She wishes that she was allowed to browse the Nexus (she only knows of it through her guardians) but unfortunately the Nexus is truly only Mature viewing. I am hoping this will change with the new Nexus. She thinks computer science and Modding is 'cool'. I wanted to share K's view with you out there because she is unique and the Skyrim Modders have inspired her in a very special way. She realizes in a very real way that computer programming is right at her fingertips today, not in the far flung future when she is 'grown' up.
As for the M rating. Skyrim is tame. And for those of you who are concerned, Thank you. We should all be diligent and concerned about the youth in our society. I personally am accused of being paranoid and over-protective every day.
@dubnoman
She told me to tell you 'Thank You'. But those dogs don't talk. But she really appreciates the suggestion. Oh and she knows about the talking dog in the game but that it's a quest not a mod. (can't fool this girl)

My granddaughter is an avid Skyrim player. She thinks Skyrim and talks Skyrim. I am constantly amazed with her ability in the game. I told her this and she replied, "Well then, perhaps you should interview me and put it on the Nexus." If you knew her you wouldn't be surprised by that statement. And so I decided to share an eight yr olds view of Skyrim.
G-Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
K-Umm..well, My name is K. I'm eight and I just graduated thrid grade and I play Skyrim. I have a family that I love very much.
G-So you play Skyrim, do you play on the PS3, X-box or the PC?
K-Actually I play on the PS3 and the PC.
G- Don't you find it difficult to switch between the controls?
K-Yes, sometimes up is down or down is up which is confusing when there is a Dragon above you. But that doesn't stop me!
G-How long have you been playing Skyrim?
K-About three months...ummm...about 250 hrs.
G-Do you prefer to play vanilla Skyrim or with MODS?
K-With MODS!
G-What is your favorite MOD?
K-The one that puts Malukahs' song "The Age of Aggression in the game". So that when you ask a bard to sing they sing her version of it. I just love it!
G-Do you have just one character?
K-Mmm...no I have two. One is female, her name is Alicea and she is a Dragonborn fighter! The other is male, his name is Aragon and he's also a Dragonborn fighter. They both have horses..well except that Aragon got his killed.
G-Do you prefer to use spells or weapons?
K-Both!
G-Which is your favorite?
K-Weapons! I like to dual wield Imperial swords. I really like that. It's so cool.
G-You have the whole summer in front of you. Are you going to play Skyrim?
K-Yes! A Lot! But I don't think my mom will let me play as much as I want to play.
G-If there was one MOD that you would want someone to create what would it be?
K-A talking dog! Dragons, Cat people, Lizard people, walking dead, werewolfs and vampires...why not a talking dog everywhere!
Well there you have it...a future Modder for sure

Polish! Without a doubt.
I study the MOD authors page in detail. Then I read every comment in detail. I do this before I install a MOD because I am looking for reported bugs, CTD's or anything else that will tell me how the MOD may possibly perform in-game. I currently have 89 MODS installed and no issues or CTD's.
I have tried more than 150 MODS. But any MOD that exhibits any probs get de-activated. Sometimes this is very sad as there are some great MODS I would love to be using. But how does it enhance my game if it breaks it?
Polish. I hope in the end your poll reflects that as the number one requirement.

Take a look at Game Booster 3. It is free and gives you the ability to record. I also have the paid version of FRAPS and I really like it as well.
Game Booster has the added advantage of setting your PC up as a game machine by shutting down processes running that you don't need when playing a game. I feel it is very user friendly as well.
I wish you success with your project.

@bben46
"Can only play games ( That is what it is intended to do so that may not be a con)"
Actually that isn't true! I bought the PS3 to play blu-ray and watch internet content. Does all of that in top notch HD (plus upscale if you need it). Which in regards to value makes it a pretty good investment.
Otherwise bben46's post is by far the best yet to the OP. Mine included

I got SkyRim for Christmas for the PS3. It nearly killed me to wait until Christmas to play it! I wouldn't have bought a console edition myself but it was a present. Did I enjoy it on the PS3? Hell yes I did! But as has been previously stated it is a very buggy game in vanilla. Be forewarned that the PS3 version actually had the potential to harm your console! (Unsure if that condition still exists since the patches came out)
At level 35 I had enough and decided to move to the PC version. I guess mostly because I was missing out on the MODs. They (MODS) make the game playable forever! Just the playthroughs I have lined up as different characters will last until the end of time! And then there are the speciality mods! But mostl of all are the MODS that make SkyRim and all the characters in it look totally AWESOME!
If money is your issue then you have a tough choice really. Since you can't do much about upgrades with a laptop you're stuck with pretty much what you have.:wallbash:
Still... if you can run it on your laptop I would recommend getting Skyrim for the PC. There are performance and improvement MODS that will make it run very nicely even on a low end PC.I constantly read posts here in the forums from players running Skyrim on some pretty low end machines and I am amazed with all the MODS they have installed and report good performance.

hmmm....
Cosidering past video game movie success beth would be better off if they avoided that pitfall. Odds are it would come up snake eyes :nuke:
Too bad tho', some good roles for female heroes. Ya gotta love those!

Skyrim save

Right you are! Clearly stated the scanner is just an observation tool. I wasn't that clear about that. My pre-emptive plan is to be able to go back to a previous save when things go south on my current save/saves. But if you're going to revert to a previous save with the need to re-install you better have a pretty good record of exactly how/what to rebuild so you can use that save. That's where the scanner comes in. All the info you need to do the build is stamped on the save itself.
It also gives you the ability to go back and examine what mod/mods, order, versions, script variables and papyrus were on your game from save to save and hopefully give you a clue as to what happened versus just observing the size of the saves. Not saying the save size isn't a good indicator...because it is!
So...to the OP: If you use the scanner at least you will know how to build your game if you wish to use someone elses save. I would offer you my savegame but I don't know if your system would run my game build. I run on Ultra with a lot of Mods. But you're welcome to it if you wish to try that method.
