[LE] ENB, why does it effects performance so much?
meh12345 replied to cryckan90's topic in Skyrim's Creation Kit and Modders
I personally find 40-60 to be very playable. That aside, though, there's something abnormal about your characteristics. A machine beefy enough to get 100+ should manage with maybe 30 FPS loss. Perhaps some more specs would help, if playing with NVidia Inspector (or CCC) doesn't help. Single biggest thing you can do will be turning AA down. Aside from that, try Realistic Lighting With Customization, maybe combined with FXAA PPI. -
That's impressive even for save game bloat :) I don't think I could imagine trying to play even at 50 megs, the 20 when I noticed was already really bad. So, go through your saves and find the point where they start increasing rapidly. It's obviously easier if you've got a lot of saves like I did, but the pattern I saw was that it was fluctuating between 10 and 11 megs (going like 10.3, 10.4, 10.2, 104, 10.5, 10.3, and so on) and then went 10.5 -> 11 -> 11.5 etc. Obviously your exact numbers will be different but hopefully you'll see something like that. If not, you'll have to guess more. When you've found it, play a little while (couple hours) with all mods still disabled, save often, and make sure it stays pretty stable and hopefully even goes up and down a bit. Then start re-enabling mods maybe a few at a time.

Check your save files, they'll almost certainly be bloated to tens of megs. The lag starts being noticeable around 20 megs and it's exactly like you describe your symptoms, starting at a few seconds and increasing the bigger the file gets. You can try disabling the offending mods (see below) and then waiting a few in-game days to see if the files go back down to normal size. If not, the only option is to go to a save file that's still in the normal range (look for when the increases were small) and restart from there, disabling the offending mods and/or keeping an eye on the size, reverting and trying different mods until it works normally. The two mods that I know of that cause save file bloat are Adventurers & Travelers, and the previous version of Dynavision (the new version has fixed it). There are surely others too, because Papyrus sucks and the save system sucks.

New video card- is this accurate observation?

I'm not sure why everyone's so down on placebos. If it works, just roll with it :) -
Yes, Cobwebmaster, you can find mods for that (even in this thread, but it's probably better to just search on Nexus).

It's quite possible increase your average FPS without increasing the maximum, or simply remove stuttering and so on. Video memory amount and speed probably help a lot. -
I believe this is a known ATI/AMD problem. Try searching threads about ATI cards.

Good thing I've got a backup copy of .21...
-
(Also, in interest of accuracy, the Witcher video guards weren't "heavily" armoured. They just had breastplates ;)
-
That's pretty much it. Your character was, I suppose, mostly meant to be played in first-person view and therefore lacks expressions. There are some mods that help a bit, but the options for altering/adding e.g. lip shapes even statically are pretty lacking.
-
"... you can see how a dagger wielding assassin could be capable of killing heavy armored enemies - well, it doesn't really show what we want to achieve, but you know... its a cool cinematic:D" As you know, I'm heavily in favour of dangerous daggers. I must point out, however, that referring to a movie (or nowadays a game) is never an acceptable argument when discussing realism :) (It's just a peeve of mine. You weren't particularly serious about it, I think, but I'm constantly amazed by the number of people who talk about a TV show or a movie as if it was real.)

@tomislawus: Good news! I've implemented the feature. It does require a small bit of effort on your part: stop saving your game. :)

Nope, sadly I'm seeing regression again. With 2 x GTX 560 using 295.51, I've an average of somewhere around 50 FPS (the range is something like 40 up to 80). The new driver drops me to 25-30, so rolling back once again. I should probably mention this on the NVidia forums...
-
Can you just tfc to wherever they are before getting too close?
-
Ah, let's give this a try… 295.73 was really, really bad for my system (295.51 works fine). Hopefully this'll end up better.

Creating a zone where AI don't react to you
meh12345 replied to ual002's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Wasn't there a prisoner/guard association type defined? Or maybe just use the Guard behaviour? -
I agree about not using "WIP", but for the opposite reason: nothing is ever finished. To think otherwise is to set yourself up for failure. Just get it in a workable shape ("minimum viable product"), and then keep adding/fixing/refining.
-
It'll be a matter of opinion, by and large. I've got DC now, and I mean to try Duke's but I haven't yet (I'm slightly concerned I'd end up with problems updating either way). The TRO project is also adding one, and it looks very promising.

Try recycleactor, resetai and/or resurrect.

Questions about character creation at beginning of game
meh12345 replied to Dubnoman's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
The Meshes and Textures category is a good one to start with. There's also a mod that adds tons of nord presets, I think from various NPCs, but can't remember what it's called. On the lady side I personally just use Navetsea textures and Younger Female Faces, but there're quite a few options. -
Random NPC Injury Exclamations in Karthwasten?
meh12345 replied to meh12345's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I think I've seen it as early as level 25, and I've never had that mod… so something else is at work :) I mean, it'd be cool if it were hagravens putting the hex to people but I doubt it; there'd be some dialogue (or actual NPC aggression) if so. -
Mm. I'd say the purpose of this thread wasn't really trying to find ways to work within the existing system. I mean, yeah, obviously you can just load up a different save. I don't think that requires a long discussion. I find it more interesting to explore the questions of whether it should be that way, and/or if there's something that can be done about it.

But you don't have that option. In that particular quest, you have no other options (none, zero), than kill or get killed. Even that could be acceptable in some cases, but not here. It is simply not logically sound that there would be no other options. It's lazy quest design. And, no, using save games is not a valid solution to getting through a quest. It's not in any way equivalent to tabbing out (which even interpreted at its worst is just walking away without saying a word, a perfectly justifiable in-character solution). If the world explicitly included time travel as an option, sure, that'd be valid. Saves aren't. I personally think that the few latest arguments are at best semantic BS. I'll allow that someone might genuinely not understand or care how in-character and out-of-character solutions are completely separate things, but I certainly can't make you understand and therefore won't pursue that line any further. Instead, I'll turn the question around: how would it worsen your playing experience if you could, for example, just bash the door and drag the vigilant out in the case of the haunted house (in addition to having the option of killing him, or letting him kill you)? Or banging on the door until people come and help? Or, let's say, use the Wobbajack and randomly get a get out of jail free card? Or negotiate with the daedra? Or anything else in addition to the given two options?
-
The examples here haven't been quite that ambiguous. I don't think good/bad is really relevant anyway, the point is the lack of choice. Using saves to change choices based on later information just isn't a valid argument in this case, in my opinion. You allowed yourself to be killed? Game over, all hail our reptilian overlords. Like I said earlier, I don't really have a problem with that particular quest's premise: I accept that sometimes you wander into bad situations. What is inexcusable is that I can't for example just knock the dumbass out and then bash the door to splinters, if need be, to get out. Or if there's some "super magic barrier", tie the sucker up and figure out another solution in the meanwhile, by negotiating if necessary.

I do hope you're not serious. Either way, "CB2 has taught itself how to walk with the aid of a human" tells you everything necessary about the story. It's a robot. A robot mimicing the human gait is no mean feat, but it's so far from being AI that I'm tempted to use the word ludicrous. ... And back on topic, I've been playing around with some voice software and you can actually get pretty close to the original voice actors...
