Kinda old but found this really interesting!
http://kotaku.com/5897754/an-eloquent-rap-that-explains-why-downloadable-content-sucks
Edit: On a side note...I think this was made spec. in responce to the ME3 dlc. So in that sense its not against just on disk dlc I guess, but BS dlc as a whole.

Gotta agree on Vagrant on this. Seems to me that so far, not many game companies still can't understand the rules of supply and demand when it comes to digital goods because the normal rules of supply of demand do work - That is, for physical goods. See, there's a very high limit to supply for digital goods, the only limits being bandwidth, the number or media that can store and hold said content, and for some CD keys. Basically, if big-budget companies want to run in the green in the future, a good start is to promote digital distribution, which means not pricing digital copies of games at $60 and swapping out disc manufacturing costs for bandwidth costs (which should be much less expensive). Or, in other words, $40 for a brand-new AAA title would likely cause a crazy amount of sales compared to the $60 from others.
Also, if these companies are talking about budget problems... There's three things happening: Either a) purely bad bookkeeping, b) lack of employee motivation (which would not surprise me given the stagnancy of both series) or c) falsified and padded reports, in which MW3 and BF3 actually did not sell nearly as many copies as reported because let's be honest, how many of these big companies really want to admit that they are responsible for their own actions and eventual failure?
Also, if they really want to make money on expanding the game, there's this old thing called an "Expansion Pack", which is meant to be bigger than most DLC, and is much more accepted in the gaming realm - They should try this old practice more instead. if you put your effort and time into making $20-30 expansions instead of little $10 DLC, I guarantee that gamers will find the price and content more enticing than the current offers that are keep being given.
Yes, Yes...I totally agree with this post. Kudos to you friend! Expansion packs also tend to have much higher producion values too. I haven't ever minded buying one or two expansion packs every other year. From Total Annialation to today I have never, ever minded expansion packs. But these 15 dollar map packs couldn't piss me off more. Espessially because there is no user creation tools. (So companies have no competition, they can just make so-so to terribad dlc., and would get tons of sales because that is the only other option for consumers to get if they want more.) So if we want more content we have to buck out 15 bucks or deal with it...Not a way to play imo. Honestly, if CoD MW was a PC game MW2 and MW3 would have to be expansion packs...Let's be real here.
Sorry for bad typing if there is any, and I would say more...but this is from my phone. (Yea sad I know, but it means that much to me.)
EDIT: Also, I hate what the DLC represents. Lately developers have been taking away peices of the actual game and selling it back to the consumers. (Even putting the "DLC" on the very game disk!)
EDIT2: Kudos to everyone in this thread! (I just read through it all...on my phone...)

Hello and welcome. Amber...How did you come up/recieve that name? As I'm reading a book currently called The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelzanzy. Could there possibly be some kind of connection there?
Also, So it seems you are pretty good with technology? What kind of technology do you work with?
I build and repair whole computers, plus handle the order ins and occasional front desk duties if we are short staffed.
As for my name, it has no connection with those books. It is one i chose myself. The reasoning is an entirely different story.
Oh, then you should be just fine here. I'll see you around the forums!

I sense the force is strong with this one.
Edit:For some strange reason posts from my phone always double post

Well, here it is. My official intro.
So, im Phalanx, but feel free to call me Amber. Ive got no real career, but I currently have a pretty decent job working for ScorpTech. Love the job, and my fellow workers are pretty nice to be around too.
What else is there to say really?

Hello and welcome, people online call me blitz. So what's your story?
Also on a side note, I never met anyone named Dex, and I must say I think it's a pretty cool name. Does anyone ever compliment you on it?
Hey Blitz, the pleasure's all mine. Not much to tell about me. I'm 35, born and raised in Detroit, MI and thankfully soon to return but for now I'm living in Katy, TX. I'm a writer/entrepreneur by profession and like many in the starving artist field I am indeed on the path to publishing my first series of books of the sci-fi/fantasy genre.
Mainly I just keep to myself. My friends were the ones who gave me the nickname Dexterous as a sort of personal joke between us. When I asked them why the name Dexterous the explanation given was pretty spot on thus I kept the monicker.
What of yourself Blitz, what's your tale?
Not much to tell about me, either. I'm 15 and live in the sunshine state. (FL) I have three older brothers that are all in college. I have a dog, and I'm a year round runner. I'm interested in reading, writing (Hey we're similiar!), gaming, modding, and cars. I got this surname, Blitz, because for a while I went with a group of buddies and played paintball pretty often. We liked to rush early a lot so other common-goers started calling us the "Blitzkriegers." Burns is my nickname at school already. So I was "Blitzburns" for a while. (While others would similiarly be called "Blitznik, Blitzdawg, and Blitzman,")
Like you, my dream job is to be an author. If your books ever get published make a post, I'd gladly pick a copy up. Likewise, if you just feel like sharing your stories with someone I'm always open for more fantasy/Sci-Fi. As my sig shows, I just finished reading the Iliad, Odyssey, and Aeneid (Fagles translation ftw.) and loved it. Now I am reading the Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelanzy.
Also, Like you I recently joined this website a few weeks back after being a lurker for around six months. When I realized I was spending more and more time on these forums, I decided to make an account and get my face around. I plan on getting a gaming computer from my brother (He builds computers) and joining a mod team for New Vegas as a voice actor/ storywriter, and then learn how to script and model to help make new weapons.
Nice to meet you.

You had such a great introduction I couldn't help but stop by and say hello.
So hello and welcome. You and I have similiar backgrounds. I too have lurked the forums for around six months, and over time I realized I'm spending more and more time on this site so I said what the heck and made an account a few weeks back. I have, like you originally come to this site to check out the New Vegas mods I have been hearing so many rumours about, and discovered so much more.
I, like you also, have only played bethesda games vinilla on my PS3, but I plan on changing that in (hopefully) the near future. I have not played Morrowind though. I have only really played Oblivion and Fallout NV with a bit of Fallout 3 on the side.
I can't wait to download some new lands though. I was somewhat dissapointed with all the DLC packs for New Vegas except Old World Blues. Coming from Oblivion, I was also dissapointed with the size of New Vegasʻ world. Even if there is more meat on it and I prefer sci fi over fantasy it feels like a third of the size compared to Oblivion and its dlc.
Anyways nice to meet ya and I'll hopefully see you around the forums!

Hello and welcome.
A note about what you said, there mods up the wazoo on this site. They range from average joe mods to better than production value for free. Least to say, if you spend time looking you will always find something. I can't even download (Going to get a gaming computer) mods yet and my mouth drops over some of these.
So have fun, and I'll see you around the forums. Also, your english is better than most peopleʻs on the internet, so donʻt worry too much about it.

I have been following it for a while. I am already registered and have the '3 recruits' thing  . I have been waiting for a good mech game for a while now (just not enough of them anymore) and when I say this I was very pleased. The league of legends team gave them 10 million or something to further their development so I am hoping you can buy skins for the mechs instead of the horrible pay-to-win scheme many mmo games are using today. I would play it and even probably buy a few skins if that is what they offer but if it has an item shop and limited use things I wont even touch it.
Eh. Don't get your hopes too high. Personally, I'd rather just pay 15-30 dollars on steam and have the entire game with none of the bull. Even LoL has some pay-to-win. There are IP boost (which can be used to get runes faster) and they release op champions pretty consistently. (Which they of course nerf later.) Though lately they've been doing pretty good.
Anyways yeah. I have been looking for a game for quite some time now that has extended skirmishes such as that of Halo 3's. I think this could be it. Though I didn't know about the 10 million dollar sponsorship. That is pretty interesting imo.
-
Haha I get it. Even so it is supposed to be free to play so make sure to check it out.
-
*Note* Turn it in HD it looks much better!
Also here is another video if you liked the first one.
Hello community! I'm not sure if this was mentioned already, so I decided to make a quick post on it.
This game's official release date is 12/12/12 and is Free to Play. (Which is sort of a gift and a curse imo.)
Being a fan of Halo 3's combat system (I was somewhat dissapointed in Reach.) and the fact I missed the mecha age during the PS2 days... This game is a welcome sight. I don't know about you guys, but I'm really excited about this game. The graphics look great, the gameplay fun, and the maps awesome. It is being made by a small team of nine. Pretty impressive.

And thus my friend
let worlds flow between me and you
Your words touch my heart
and make my eyes flutter across the screen too
Your words are epic
Of Virgil's scale
Of Frost's hand
Of Homer's stories
and Beowulf's glories
but Never let the words stop flowing
between your mind and ours
Those who read your words are touched too much
To leave and tell the tale
So lets us be friends
with common ends
and from morning til noon
I think of your tune
So.
Here is a ku-dos
As a thank you
for your cool notes.
---------------------------------------------
Was never the best at poems. : / So I kept it short. (Bad and abrupt ending I know.) Seriously though, very nice peom it was thought provoking. Had a good flow imo. Thank you for your time, and good day to you good sir.
