I've just joined this forum solely so I can say thank you for this fix. I've been having the same problem - constant CTD with no error messages. I found I could either unselect the hi-res texture data files and this would play ok for a few hours before starting to get occasional blank textures, or I could have the hi-res textures on and set all the graphic options to LOW (kind of defeating the objective there). This was running a GTX 570 so I was expecting it to cope no problem. Since following your instructions for Win7 I've been playing for several hours without a single crash or missing texture - everything happily running at ultra. Given how many threads I've read which have totally failed to come up with a solution to this issue I can't quite believe the fix is so easy to implement. Many many thanks.
