  1. Mod authors have been banned in the past for trying to monetize their mods. I remember there was a case where a mod author demanded money so he could post his next update and he was banned for it. So how is this different?
  2. So I've had this problem for a while now and I'm trying to figure it out. Basically, when I search or attempt to open the magic menu or the inventory menu or attempt to trade with an NPC, I can get a CTD. This happens inconsistently, so it is hard to track, but it seems to happen after I've been playing for a while and have gone through different load screens. This isn't a corrupt save issue as this happens with new characters. Has anyone else encourntered this issue?
  3. Update: I've isolated the problem ESP: It's the STEP Extended Patch. It is probably having trouble with another ESP, so I'm going to try and see if I can isolate the conflict. Will update further if I find the problem.
  4. So right now I have an issue where when I run Skyrim using SKSE, Skyrim loads but doesn't show the main menu. I remember this was an issue with Dragon Combat Overhaul and The Dance of Death, but I no longer use The Dance of Death. Any other mods out there that conflict or cause this? I did recently add Warzones, Apocalypse Spells, and Jaxonz Utilities. But when I deactivated those mods, I have the same issue, so I don't believe it is any of those mods.
  5. The more I think about it, the more there is a huge plothole in the College of Winterhold main quest line. Once you have talked with the Auger of Dunlain, you tell Savos Aren about the Staff of Magnus. He seems to indicate that he knows nothing about it and you go an this quest to find a member of the Synod and learn its location. However, once you return and Ancano does his thing, Mirabelle sends you to Labyrinthian, giving you the key that Savos had in his possession. So either Savos was lying when he said he didn't know where the Staff of Magnus was or he was an incompetent Arch-Mage. Clearly, he knew where it was (or something like it) and he just allowed you to go on a wild goose chase all over Skyrim until he lost his own life.
  6. 1. An Era does not have a definite set of years. It usually ends when a significant event occurs. The Second Era ended once Tiber Septim united all of Tamriel under his banner, after thousands of years from the end of the First Era but the Third Era ended after the Septim Dynasty ended after about 700 years. 2. No, he has not. No idea what race he was. 3. Yes, all endings of Daggerfall occurred. Because of the nature of the Numidium and the influence of the Aedra, all endings occurred. 4. Mostly due to the Thalmor's war with the Empire. It diminished the Dark Brotherhood across the continent. This is explained in Cicero's journals. 5. Yes, he was killed and his soul probably has been taken by Mehrunes Dagon.
  7. I recently created a new Merge Patch after updating and adding some mods. Unfortunately, the merge patch is causing an immediate CTD once I load Skyrim. All masters are accounted for. Is there some way I could troubleshoot this? Note that I am not merging esp files together, I am creating a merge patch, similar to a bashed patch, using TES5Edit. It helps to clear up a lot of issues by merging together entries to ensure that some mods don't overwrite others but instead work together.
  8. Looks like the problem is with ASIS. For some reason, it doesn't like a mod I'm using or something. I'll have to remove it for now and keep playing until I can figure it out.
  9. Have you recently made any edits to your plugins? What was the last thing you did before this started happening? I did a fresh install and reapplied my mods. The only edit I made was to CCOR_SkyRe_Patch.esp because it had some bad field counts for the Stormcloak armor. Wyrmstooth.esp is now a fake esm like the unofficial patches. I tried reversing the load order of the IA7 like you said and that didn't fix the problem.
  10. This is baffling. I am starting up Skyrim and it crashes on load. Now, I have checked all my esm and esps for dependency issues and found none. I loaded all them successfully in TES5Edit and I've run SkyProc patchers without any trouble. I have also verified the integrity of the local game cache through Steam. Here's a pastebin to my current esm and esp load order: http://pastebin.com/BVDxSYmB
  11. I love how people always point to the treatment of the Dunmer and Argonians as evidence of Ulfric's racism, forgetting the recent history with both races (the Argonian war with Dunmer for example) and they forget about two significant citizens in the main shop areas: Niranye and Nurelion. Both are High Elves, who have every reason to be despised by the Nords of Windhelm being that the Thalmor are mostly high elves, and yet both own shops. While Niranye has a market stall, Nurelion has his own building. Neither of those two things would have occurred without the Jarl's approval. Secondly, recall this quote from Niranye: "It was difficult at first. The Nords of this city are, at best, suspicious of outsiders. But in time, I made the right friends and proved myself useful enough that they don't give me trouble anymore. The dark elves are too proud and naive to understand the way things truly are, and so they continue to dwell in that slum" The Dark Elves indeed are a proud race and more than likely are demanding equal treatment from a people whose land they did not settle in and have no real stake in. And the Argonians are dangerous. They were the only group to repel Dagan's invasion, even having their armies chase the Dremora into Oblivion itself, besides the Imperials of course and that was only through divine intervention. The Argonians only had the Hist and their own might. This does not justify their treatment, but when seen through the perspective of a leader, it becomes much more clear. You have a race of elves who are known Daedra worshippers and a race of reptiles who are know to have taken on Daedra and claim victory. The truth is, while Ulfric may be racist, in the literal definition of the term, he is not stupid enough to be intolerate of others. He clearly is willing to show favor to the right kinds of people, that is, the people who are willing to adapt to Nord culture rather than try and overtake it.
  12. One thing that has bothered me is how you cannot use many spells in Vampire Lord form. Given that the Vampire Lord is essentially just a higher form of vampire, you should be able to wield any number of one-handed spells in your left hand, with your right hand still used for the drain bomb. So, I'd like to see a mod that adds all the one-handed spells to the Vampire Lord so that you can use them. Even better would be one that is a Skyproc patcher so spells from other mods could be added in as well. It might also help with compatibility with other vampire mods like Better Vampires.
  13. I've been wondering if a more seasoned modder could explain the difference between a Bashed Patch created by Wyre Bash (Smash) and a Merge Patch created by TES5Edit. I'm also wondering if it is a good idea to have one or the other or both while playing. So any thoughts on this topic?
  14. Because it's an easy way to vilify Ulfric and his goal of liberating Skyrim from an Empire that capitulated to the Dominion, despite it being a boldfaced lie? There is alsoa book called the BEar of Markath that talks about Ulfric war crimes. So it's easy to vilify a villian. The Bear of Markarth was written by an Imperial Scholar and has obvious bias in the text. The author, Arrianus Arius, has an obvious bias against Nords over the Reachmen. Reading his writing was like reading Thomas Payne justify the beheadings of the French Revolution.
  15. Because it's an easy way to vilify Ulfric and his goal of liberating Skyrim from an Empire that capitulated to the Dominion, despite it being a boldfaced lie? And because nobody seems to understand the meaning of "Asset" in spy language. The Aldmeri Dominion considers Ulfric an asset because his war is essentially diverting resources in the Imperial empire. On top of that, the Empire loses valuable manpower during the war, further weakening their armed forces. It's brillant really. High elves are very patient people, given their long lifespans, and so they can stave off war a few decades and watch men kill off each other while they provide subtle manipulations that push them in that direction. The lie they planted in Ulfric's head to make him feel guilty in order nudge him in the direction of wanting to prove himself. The secret kidnapping and torture of Talos worshippers. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if the Thalmor pay people to spread rumors about it to get the Nords riled up. In the end, a Stormcloak victory is best as it allows a potential alliance of Nords and Redguards in the future, from my perspective. Redguards, having freed themselves from the Thalmor, will look at the Nords as kindred warriors as both races honor strength and prowess in battle. A nord-redguard alliance with great warriors and masters of the way of the Voice is the worst kind of army the Aldmeri Dominion would have to face. Couple that with the fact there are probably rebel groups within the Dominion itself (think of the Aldmeri Dominion as High Elf Nazis), primarily composed of Khajiit and Bosmer, who are essentially second-class citizens in the Dominion, and you have a perfect storm for the downfall of their Third Reich (ironically, it is the third Aldmeri Dominion in Tamriel's history).
  16. It's actually a pretty rare event in my experience. Like the Giant fighting the Dragon event or the Vampires fighting the Werewolf. I've only seen the former event once and the latter never, although it allegedly exists. But damned if I don't keep seeing Maiq the Liar at every damn turn.
  17. Interesting. Perhaps there should be a mod that changes the Thalmor Execution Order event to occur after Diplomatic Immunity. As for the Dark Brotherhood one, who knows. Maybe there should be certain quests that trigger that event like the one where you steal Frost. Maven Black-Briar claimed to have special connections with the Dark Brotherhood after all.
  18. What if Alduin attacked Helgen because he thought that Miraak was there? I mean, the only Dragonborn he ever could have encountered was Miraak since all subsequent ones (Ysmir, Talos) came after his Timebreak banishment. I know that he knew that Miraak was probably banished, but he probably also suspected that Miraak would escape at some point. He sensed a Dragonborn and believing it to be Miraak, immediately headed there. What he found probably shocked him. But in the introduction sequence, he clearly looks right at you and says, "Dovahkiin" before summoning a meteor storm and hitting the executioner with Unrelenting Force.
  19. First of all, make sure you have the latest version of DirectX Runtime installed: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 Otherwise, your game will crash at startup.
  20. Paarthurnax's own role in Alduin's banishment may not have been known. As far as we know, Alduin never knew about Paarthurnax's betrayal since he fought only mortals who learned how to shout. I'm sure he at least suspected that a dragon had aided men in learning to hone their voices but may very not have known it was Paarthurnax. That being said, I am sure that Paarthurnax was present when Alduin returned. It is odd, though, that the writers for Skyrim didn't address this. Paarthurnax clearly states that he stayed at the Time Break in order to await Alduin's return (and to avoid unwanted contact with mortals). But they never addressed what exactly happened, which is a huge plothole in the story. I personally think that they encountered each other and had an "argument." Alduin probably then was able to collect as much information as he could from Paarthurnax about the current state of the world and then spared Paarthurnax's life since he was short on dragons. Or perhaps Alduin felt that no dragon should take another dragon's life and soul without a direct challenge and I doubt Paarthurnax directly challenged Alduin. Maybe Paarthurnax believed that the end times were upon them and simply acknowledged Alduin's authority until the Dovahkiin was revealed to him. Paarthurnax definitely indicated that he was content to have events play out either way.
  21. I will say that a Dwemer invasion would be more akin to what was done in Oblivion, so it's not the best of ideas. As far as their disapperance, they may simply have ceased to exist. Because officially Kagrenac was trying to make all Dwemer gods, thereby targeting all Dwemer, he may have caused a kind of reality paradox. In order to resolve it, whatever forces behind creation basically forced them all out of existence entirely. Yagrum Bagarn basically confirms this by stating that no piece of them exists in any plane of known existence. This is similar to the Warp in the West where all seven outcomes of Daggerfall, all contradictory, basically occurred through divine interference in order to resolve. And this may be just a coincidence, but both incidents involved the Numidium in some fashion. So whatever this golem was, besides being a powerful weapon, it appears to have charactoristics similar to Elder Scroll. Perhaps understanding how it was going to make all of the Dwemer into gods might provide clues as to what actually happened. This is all speculation, of course. In reality, I doubt the writers of the lore really have a concrete idea for what happened.
  22. Make sure you get the Mods to close down your other account, as having more than one account is frowned upon round these parts. As for the inconsistencies... A brief overview is that in Morrowind, the 'experts' paint the image that the Dwemer were an intellectual, relatively tolerant people more than willing to accept others into their fold, so long as their philosophies were compatible. Divayth Fyr goes so far as to declare them a 7th Great House and likens them more to an organization like the Mages Guild or the Psijic Monks rather than a separate race of Mer. In Skyrim, however, they are sadistic, manipulative and deceptive, brutally enslaving the Falmer and creating rather nefarious torture devices. Somewhere there's been a disconnect between what we see in Skyrim, and what the experts have told us in the past. I think it is implied that the Dwemer were just another race like all the others. Each one has their own inherit flaws that seem to perpetuate throughout the entire timeline. They had a unique culture, but so do a lot of the other races of Tamriel, many of which are foreign to each other. If anything, this is one of the reasons I like the Elder Scrolls universe so much as it demonstrates an imperfect world with heroes and villains of all kinds. There is nothing inconsistent about it really. What we see in Skyrim is really just their greatest sin, although I question the logic of blinding a race you wish to enslave, assuming that was the intention. When you look at them as a whole, you get a full range of actions and intentions that are good, evil, or neutral. You have to look at them on an individual basis. For all we know, there were Dwemer who opposed the blinding of the Falmer but whose concerns were overriden by ruling authorities or radical factions within their own society. More than likely, the Betrayed were created due to the Dwemer's understanding of what the Night of Tears was really about (the Eye of Magnus) and their own fear that the Falmer would one day attempt to take control of one of their own major projects. The Falmer did kill off an entire Nedic settlement in the name of capturing what is essentially an infinite magical battery. This doesn't make what the Dwemer did any less evil, but it certainly demonstrates the possibility that they feared the Falmer and fear makes people do cruel and destructive things. As for their disappearance, who can say? All theories seem valid, even the ones that are unsubstantiated. But the ultimate reason is probably something that no one ever considered and it is something that I think will be revealed in a future Elder Scrolls game. I can definitely see the Dwemer's return as one of conquest and a great war.
  23. All right, I've figured out my problem. I had to install the DirectX Runtime https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=35 Everything works great now.
  24. I did that and now when I run it I get a message saying that d3dx9_43.dll is missing. Do I need to reinstall my drivers or is this file there and I just need to copy it to the skyrim directory?
  25. I checked the enboost.exe and it is still crashing at startup. I just checked Boris' website and this was posted on the TES Skyrim download: I'm not sure, but I think he's saying that the current ENB doesn't work for Skyrim? Anyway, I didn't see a link to dowload it on his site, so I'll wait for an update. Maybe that one will work.
