  1. So you may think this is off base, and it could be, but is there any chance that what you are seeing is the result of your drivers becoming overloaded, rather than the fog rendering? NVidia changed the way to properly install new driver updates, but they didn't really tell anyone, unless you read through the installation instructions, which practically no one does. If you update your drivers the old way, the way all of us had been doing, and the way Nvidia still lets you do at their site (even though their own instructions advise against it), or if you use the Windows control panel update system, or even the Steam driver update system, you can end up with incompletely overwritten/unremoved driver files from older updates, resulting in a variety of problems, including wild overclocking (which could result in visual problems like you are describing), fps being erratic (as you describe), temperature being incorrectly monitored (which you might not see till your card died), and other issues. SO unless you have used the new way of updating, it would be worth a try, in my opinion, just to make sure you don't have other problems down the road. You can read about it here. It's an EVGA site, but the info is good for any NVidia card. Other than that, I think you would have to go through basic mod troubleshooting to rule out a mod-related issue causing the problem (Bben's troubleshooting guide is fabulous). As far as I am aware, the only .ini settings that affect fog are the ones you are already trying. Also, just to be double-sure, you are making changes to the correct Prefs.ini file? The one that is Username/mydocuments/mygames/skyrim? Don't want to offend you, just trying to cover all the bases....
  2. Well, I know I can configure my video card tool (I use EVGA Precision) to take pics. I really don't think there is a auto screenshot in Skyrim, but maybe an inadvertent change to a different program? Just to be sure it's not you keyboard, have you tried remapping the screenshot function to a different key? Not sure about ENB...have you tried to ininstall it also, just to be sure? Finally in the event that it is hardware-related, have you tried a rollback from a backup (Computer, not game) Sorry I know that isn't much help, but its all I can think of at the moment.
  3. Not sure, but if it works, you wont be able to go backwards, without breaking your game. It could be that you are adding them to the wrong .ini file, there are 2. Are you using the one in Documents? Cause the one in the data file will not affect your game.
  4. It sounds like a problem with the graphics card? You may try updating your video card.
  5. Picture?
  6. Maybe post in the Mod detectives thread on the top on the forum page? Or search that thread to see if someone else already made that request?
  7. I have to say I disagree. My character is level 67 and I have had a hard time finding anything I can't 1-shot for at least 10 levels. Deadly dragons offers a few really decent fights. There are not a lot of mods out there that accommodate higher level games, and I think it is just fine, including the storm dragons. I agree with what Adrius2 says, if they are too hard, then lower the difficulty...not your game difficulty but the mod difficulty, which may require you to uninstall/reinstall the mod, I dunno.
  8. It changes fog, smoke, mist. I haven't noticed any changes to water. So if you tried it at zero, and you still have the fps problem, maybe it's not the fog that is causing it. Can you explain in more detail what you are seeing? Also what mods you are using (especially any lighting mods)? Is the fps drop only in dungeons, and in all dungeons? Is there any chance the issue is with shadows (also a lot of them in dungeons)?
  9. I'm nor sure how pets of skyrim works, but I use Brokunn's Mini Pet Maker without trouble--I have 2 pets and a follower and a horse. If you don't like your pets small, you can use the console setscale command to make them larger. If you don't want to try that, the only thing I can think is to make sure UFO is lower than the pet mod in your load order. Hope that helps!
  10. Any mods that affect hair?
  11. In prefs.ini, you can change the max particle size. mine is: [Particles] iMaxDesired=50 I read you can go all the way to zero, which will not totally remove it, but much less.
  12. The problem you describe can be related to problems from the driver install. When I updated my drivers, I had almost exactly those same issues--crazy overclocking I never crated, lags, spikes, all kinds of crazy stuff like my computer was possessed. NVidia changed the way to properly update the drivers, but they don't tell you unless you read their installation readme, which no one does. Check out this site and it will tell you how to fix it (even if you don't have EVGA-manufactured drivers). It is a bit of reading but totally worth it.
  13. No prob! Just to be clear, it is not the drivers themselves but the update procedure. You can still get your divers from NVidia, just follow the steps.
  14. Or your keyboard is sticking. Or you have a fat cat on your lap that is oozing onto the keyboard....one time my cat took over 800 screenshots that way.
  15. In case this isn't already a known issue. The top one works, but it can be confusing to new users. (link to thread)
  16. Actually, you are right! The button on the bottom of the page seems to be broken. Not a noob problem, more like beginner's mind seeing what the rest of us miss...:)
  17. Glad to help! My mom can't even read email, so give yourself credit!
  18. That is a message that you might get if trying to download a mod that the author is not wanting to share at the moment for various reasons. However. I don't know why you would get that for NMM. Go here and click on download, than follow the instructions. I just checked it, it's working for me.
  19. I have the same card as you, and I am able to get it running Skyrim smoothly with decent graphics, after some tweaking. Here are some things that you may want to consider. Depending on other variables (your processor, RAM, etc. these may or may not have the same effect). 1. Go to this site and make sure you have correctly updated your drivers. The standard way no longer works, but NVidia didn't really tell people. (It's in their readme, but we all know how that goes...) Incorrectly installed drivers can cause problems ranging from slower performance and poor 3D graphics to card-killing loss of temperature and clock control. 2. I disabled Bethesda's hi-res textures, and then improved visuals with the following mods: WATER Static Mesh Improvement Mod Skyrim Flora Overhaul Some people swear by STEP, although I was pretty well set up before I saw it, and so I don't use it. I do know it has it's own website/forum, so it seems well supported. If given the option with these or any other mod, I choose medium texture if possible, or the lower of two options. I also use a lot of mods that improve textures of roads, rocks, clothing/armor/ appearance and weapons. There are so many out there I 'm sure it's just a matter of preference. 3. I read the following guides, which provide detailed explanations of how various changes to settings and prefs can affect both quality and performance. GeForce Tweak Guide RookieNoob's tweak guide 4. Settings adjustments I made (most of which came from what I learned at the above sites). I have FXAA and AO disabled. I have textures on high, everything else on medium or low. I have most sliders on the medium/high range. 5. Some of the prefs.ini settings I use (DO NOT JUST CUT AND PASTE) this is only for your reference. Cut and pasting could result in your game being ruined, which would be sad. You need to make any changes like this one at a time, with incremental changes and checking in game to see how it affects your system. Again, many of these are based on what I read in the tweak guides. Also they are a matter of taste. For example, I am fine with sparse grass, less dense mist and less reflectivity, because they make my game smoother in places like Whiterun and around glaciers. I used my memory for other things, like increasing gridstoload and FOV (if you want to make changes to these read the Geforce guide carefully before attempting. I wouldn't recommend changing gridsloload unless you are willing to abandon your game and start over.) 6. If you are not doing so already, use something like EVGA precision or Riva Tuner to monitor your card's performance in game. I use Precision because I have an EVGA card. I'm not sure if it works with other manufacturer's Nvidia cards. I tried using NVidia Inspector, but I found the interface awkward. Our cards tend to run hot, so keeping the temperature as low as possible is important. I keep mine dust-free, and set my fan curve so that my fan runs more at lower temps. Also because my case sucks, I take the side off and use an auxiliary fan. (You may not need to do that.) If you find that you card's temps are high, even at idle, you may need to reapply the thermal paste. I also overclock my card just slightly, but if you are interested in doing something like that, do a lot of reading before attempting. 7. I find the best fps rate for me is 33. At 60 I had lags, but at 30 I had weird endless loading screens (thats to Kievkev for figuring this out!). I adjust this with precision, but there are also programs like Fraps that can do that for you. 8. There are some things you can change on the card driver software, as well, using NVidia's Control panel or NVidia Inspector. (Also covered some in the tweak guide links) Using NVidia Inspector for this increases your number of options for tweaking things like AA and AF. I read a lot about what worked for other people, but ultimately found it best to play around with the values until I found what that worked for me. 9. Finally, of course, make sure to close all background programs, disable auto updates and other unnecessary services/processes, defrag and clean out your cache. Well I know that's a ton of stuff, I hope at least some of it helps!
  20. Try this: let him walk out. Exit the game entirely then re-enter, and find your man (or whatever) where they usually hang. At that point, see if you can get the dialogue about where you should live. I have never had a satisfying wedding in Skyrim, but this works for me. Not that actually being married (in Skyrim) is any better. Except, of course for the perks you mentioned. My guess is there is someone with just a little bitterness writing this part of the Skyrim story!
  21. I have no insight into Bethesda, but it seems that with resources focused on the MMO project, and with Skyrim appearing to favor console systems, it is probably up to the modders/programmers. Just my opinion.
  22. So, last night I had a dream I was trail running with a friend of mine. In the dream I jumped over a plant and said "Wait! Canis root!" Then I said to her, "Ha, you know you've been playing Skyrim too much when you think you see Canis root..." I really need to get out.:ermm:

    Kudos

I agree with Stemin that it is strange to notice that I've gotten a kudo, and have no idea where it came from or why. On the other hand, seeing them makes me feel appreciated and makes my day a little nicer, and probably makes me more patient when I am posting, so I am glad they are there! I wonder, though, if there is a way (someday in the far future when all the pressing matters are solved!) to get a message that the kudo received was linked to "X" thread or post, just so I have an idea what I am being kudo'd for, even if it remains anonymous? Just a thought, for when you guys have nothing else to do...:whistling:
  24. I don't know the answer, but I do know the mannequin thing is a pretty widespread issue. I use SLuckyD's Vanilla Mannequin fix. You might contact the mod author to see how they did it.
