  1. Well, every patch has caused issues for me. The main graphics settings (the one that comes up on the first Skyrim menu) also got reset for me on the patch. It toggled the FXAA to on, changed basic resolution, sliders, etc. The patch also caused my some parts of my .ini files to reset to default, and deleted lines I had added. If you are sure you have a proper install of your drivers, then it could be that the patch reset some values, and that is causing the issue. Have you checked your pref.ini and ini files to make sure they look how you want them? Also maybe check your driver settings through NVidia Inspector? (Just a reminder that if you go into te main settings area, it will reset some of your ini values, so you may want to do the Skyrim menu settings check first and then your ini files and driver card settings.) Other thoughts... Have you tried running something like Evga precision or Afterburner or CPU-Z to monitor how your drivers are running in game? Also, are you using any mods that affect lights/textures? You might try removing them completely to see if that makes any difference.
  2. When the 1.6 installed on me, it rewrote a good deal of my pref.ini and .ini files, both resetting values and deleting lines that I had added. This cause a number of issues for me, including load hangs. If you haven't already, you might carefully check those files to make sure they values are where you want them. I wouldn't recommend a simple copy-paste overwrite from a backup file, though, because I noticed the update added some new lines, as well.
  3. Thanks. I have found that sometimes to be an irritation, especially around water where there's a slaughterfish swimming around.
  4. Bben's troubleshooting guide is awesome. If you go to his link it will help.
  5. This thread might help you. The black face bug is a widespread issue.
  6. Steam tracks my gameplay? Omg. This is the state of gaming in the 21st century. If you don't like it, don't play it. Or bettter, learn how to create games and make free open-source, off-line playable games for everyone. Complaining does not change the world, only channeling that energy into positive action. I happen to like that quests take you across Skyrim for the following reasons: 1. It provides the opportunity to see all of the world, interact with the NPCs and run across other quests in a way that feels more natural. 2. Skyrim is beautiful and it is a pleasure to look at. That said, fast travel makes Skyrim very small, if your goal is just to finish quests ASAP. The first time through skyrim, I was still in FPS mode from months of killing zombies (LFD2), and I got through everything feeling super rushed. I found out it is much more fun to relax, catch the butterflies, talk to the barkeeps, and enjoy the trip.
  7. I don't use this mod, so I don't know if it matters, but you are getting this message and it looks like you have 3 cloaks.esp files installed? Back in the day, this is what I added to change the large address awareness issue. It is still in my .ini file. I don't know if it does anything any more, but it also doesn't seem to cause problems, so you might try it? Its at the end of the [papyrus] section iMinMemoryPageSize=100000 iMaxMemoryPageSize=5000000 iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=3000000000
  8. If you updated your driver the old fashioned way (through the Windows interface) then you probably do not have correctly installed drivers. This can cause all kinds of problems, including your drivers turning up to maximum clocks, incorrect temperature readings/settings things that can eventually kill your card. NVidia has changed the driver install procedure, but the bury this in the readme of the driver file, its hard to find even if you go to the NVidia website for your drivers. The first thing I would do it go here and read the whole thing through, then follow the instructions exactly. This takes a little time, but it can save you hundreds of dollars for a new card, and also hours of frustration from incorrect driver installation. Its from the EVGA website, but it is not specific to EVGA-manuafctured NVidia cards. Then, if the problem is not solved, I would follow bbens troubleshooting guide, here. Hope this helps, good luck.
  9. If you are using Realistic Wildlife or SkyMo, you might try compltely uininstalling them and then see if the problem goes away. For me, the newer versions of these (the file sizes of there are pretty big now) were just too much, and I had to return to earlier versions. I think they may have started conflicting with each other, but earlier versions are working fine for me. Also, all the ice in that area can push your Vcard's RAM up, so if you are using a lower end card, that might also be the problem. You can try lowering the reflectivity.
  10. Just a note that if you have an evga video card, the evga forum/community is super nice and there are threads all about overclocking, etc that might be useful to you. You can also read there about the warranty.
  11. I had a strange crash on 18.9 too--when trying to install it. In my case, the computer crashed completely, shut down. I had to restart the whole thing. Then when I tried again I got a message that the "file needs to be elevated" although Iwas already running it on administrative priveledges. And then it crashed again. What seems to have worked for me was completely uninstalling 18.8 separately, moving my mod files (the C;/games/skyrim one) to a different location, then installing 18.9 as a new file, rather than overwriting the old one, as I have always done in the past. I was then able to move my mods back into the folder that 18.9 has set up and reinstall them all. I still have skyUI running and it seems to be working fine. Not sure this will help, but I hope it does!
  12. I think that people who give learn very quickly that there are massive and far-reaching rewards to doing so. Not only does it feel good in the moment, but it makes the world around the giver a little better, benefiting the giver, the recipient, and beyond. It directs the giver's focus outwards, rather than inwards, which decreases anxiety and depression. It increases the giver's sense of efficacy and connection with others, all of which lead to mental and physical health benefits for the giver, increasing their mental and physical reserves to support a greater ability to help others. In addition, the recipient experiences a larger sense of community, and may be relieved of their problems enough to direct their focus to others in need, widening the positive effect. Giving in this sense is the most practical solution for all involved, as we are all in this together.
  13. Just my opinion but you would probably spend less time going back to a previous working save and replaying some of Skyrim then you would trying to fix a corrupted save.
  14. Read this: Nexus wiki You must have a legal copy of Skyrim and register it through steam to use the nexus.
  15. Do you have any workshop mods? They might have updated without you noticing.
  16. Try a save before first getting the quest?
  17. click here for driver update info link Load order (what cyberlazy was asking) is how your mods are loading into the game. If you use NMM there are 2 tabbed pages--- Mods and Plugins. Plugind shows the load order. However, if you have never arranged your mods then that could be the problem. You can use BOSS to sort your mods so they will load optimally. Here is the link to BOSS It is not a mod, it is a stand-alone program you will need to load to a folder oor desktop manually. If you use the BOSS GUI option after you load. You can get a text file after you load them that you can copy/paste here. WHen you sort your mods, with BOSS, any that it does not recognise will be at the bottom. You will need to add them yourself by putting similar mods together (armor with armor, house mods with house mods, etc.) Have you checked outSTEP? You might find some useful info there. AlsoBBens blog is filled with fantastic troubleshooting, clear and concise. EDIT:
  18. Screenshots have to be from websites not your hard drive. I think if you go to the profiles or settings area on MSI you should see a place to adjust framerate. There should be an info or help button somewhere, too,,, I am sorry I have to go...if you dont get this figured out send me a note tomorrow.
  19. What is "it?" I am not sure why you were unable to download before, I thought it might have been a corrupt file. If you go to the site, try to download the program again. There is also a user manual on that same site, which you can read to learn how to use MSI...all you need to use it the fps limiter, nothing with overclocking. If you get an error message again copy it onto your post so I can see if it is something I can help you with.
  20. LOL there should be a prize for the most embarrassing Skyrim fail. Like we can all pitch in for a printed Skyrim manual...
  21. I think the main attraction of the workshop is how easy it is to use, not that the content is particularly different. The ease of use thing definitely comes at a tradeoff:significantly less control. I started there and then moved over here. I actually thought the mods were better here. Maybe its changed, but when the CK first came out a lot of people didn't know how to use it and would post half-finished mods thinking that was the only way to save them, frustrating to have to go through when mod-shopping. I don't want to trash the workshop, I think it has opened up modding to a lot of people who might not otherwise felt comfortable with it. As far as content, though, all the mods I was using through the workshop are also available here, and then some. (Having said that the next poster is sure to poster The.Most.Awesome.Mod.Ever that they can only get on steam.;))
  22. What are you using it for, and what do you expect to see?
  23. Oops...do not disable your antivirus/firewall! What Blitzen is talking about it disabling automatic scans/updates, not the whole thing. If you use Gamebooster this will also do this for you, along with other background processes
  24. @ Blitzen,,,,hi! :-) I think we could definitely use your help here....Fresh brain cells! regarding fps, kievkev discovered that for some people (me included) lowering fps to something just above 30 (like 35 or so) solved the long load problem. This worked perfectly for me, too, and my game runs more smoothly on that then on 60. Of course everyone will have different experiences. @1234: MSI Afterburner really should do the trick for you, then. Were you downloading from the MSI website?
  25. It could be a corrupted save...have you disabled the autosaves...they can cause havoc. It sometimes works to go back to an earlier (complete) save if this is the case. Although I'm not sure a save before the 1.6 patch would be at all useful. As for the mods, some of them have been affected by the 1.6 patch, so even if you haven' changed anything, the Skyrim patch changed the environment that they are in. It would be hard to tell which is was in this circumstance, without removing them all. Also if you are using any steam workshop mods, they are automatically updated, you may not have noticed the (often very quick) message on the load screen. That is one reason I prefer not using the workshop.
