You might try in Steam to verify cache files. Maybe your download was corrupted in some way? Also, are you loading through NMM? Using Skse? If so, maybe try to load the old fashioned steam way just to see if that works.

I didn't know there was a difficulty setting to choose
Georgiegril replied to sinnerman69's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
My confession: after over 1000 hours of play, several play throughs, I'm killing spiders with my soul-eating dagger, lamenting as usual that their puny little souls are taking up the nice fat grand soul gems I just acquired. Then, it hits me....I can just change swords! Cause I have three I always carry with me..... No joke. Proof that attachment is the cause of suffering. Let the public ridicule begin. -
Well, personally this happens to me when my wireless mouse's battery is dying or the path to the receiver is blocked. Most gamers, I know, shun wireless mice for this exact reason, but the wires bug me... So assuming that your mouse is not wireless, it is possible, if you've had it a while, that it is just wearing out. (or the wires have become a bit damaged) But also, you might try to see if any driver updates exist for it. I have a mouse that had the old logitech setpoint software, and I read somewhere that actually slows them down, so I disabled it and did notice a difference. You can also see if disabling your mouse acceleration works for you. Go into your pref.ini file scroll down to [controls] and set bMouseAcceleration=0 Before doing that, though, make a copy to the who ini and put it in another folder your desktop so you can revert back if you ever need to. Hope something here helps!

[Advice Needed] Skyrim Game Somewhat Corrupted
Georgiegril replied to kevinno's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
If the problem is related to a mod conflict (as it seems) then repeating steps 1-6, then starting a new game (old savegames could also be corrupted) playing through the cave at Helgen in vanilla, and then adding mods one at a time,(exactly according to the mod author's instructions, reading the readme to check for known conflicts, prerequisites, etc. and running BOSS after each for optimal load order. After that playing a bitto make sure it works That should help you determine exactly what mod is involved. You can start with the mods you cant live without, and then add the others. When you find the problem, you can return to the author's web site, especially looking for known issues, and reading the discussion thread to see if others have had the same issue and maybe a work around. If not, you can go through again starting with that mod and adding the others to find where the conflict actually lies, and decide between those mods, or, you can just leave that mod out, depending on your preferences. -
I noticed that was listed on Elderscrolls Wiki... they have some possible workarounds here (check the bug section)

Frame rate capping caused problems from me, but I did not have to go all the way to 60. I had a 3-4 minute load time at 30 fps, but at 33, it reverted back to less than a minute load time. At 60 fps I find my game play is slower, so you might want to experiment. Depending on your video card, you may have a function for frame rate adjustment on your driver software utilities. I use EVGA Precision for my EVGA NVidia card. There are other programs like MSI afterburner (lots of people love that, it seems)...There is a frame rate cap mod on the nexus but I'm not sure if that is adjustable, I've never used it.

The way I deal with large mods is to manually download, then place the unzipped zip-file into the username/games/Skyrim folder (that's where NMM 's auto download places them) Then open the NMM interface, and it should load the game under the mods, and then you can activate it. It's kinda a half-auto update, because when I do it this way, I get the activation options (for example, with SMIM that lets you choose various textures) and it tends to then follow the versions correctly. Hope that helps!

It looks like a graphics card issue. I don't know Radeon cards or their particular issues with this patch, but you might try either updating or rolling back your drivers. Also, the patch overwrites potions of your skyrim graphics and pref.ini, so if you haven't already, you might try going through and checking the skyrim graphics options (for example my FXAA got toggled on for me), then your driver control settings and your pref.ini files to make sure they are they way you want them, both any changes you had made but also lines you had added or deleted. If you have a saved backup pref.ini file, though, you may not want to just copy/paste it because 1.6 added some lines, to, and I'm not sure how deleting them might affect your situation. Hope this helps!

Are you using Skyrim Flora Overhaul by Vurt? I notice the same thing, and I am using that mod. I assumed that it was a intentional change. However, I did not check. After reading your post, I went back and looked though the changelog, etc. and do not see any mention of removing the "picked" animation. Now I am wondering if it is an issue caused by the update not recognizing vurt's files, or perhaps another mod.... It didn't really bother me, cuz I like flowers, but it might be worth dropping a line to Vurt...if you also are using that mod....

 I have never had a problem with NMM. Steam workshop autoupdates, and determines your load order. NMM allows you to control these things. Some people use both. I came over to NMM from the workshop because I found that the environment was much more supportive, experienced and kinder. The only issue I have ever had with NMM for downloading mods is that it is unable to handle really large mods, but they can be added manually easily enough. Lots of people here are always happy to try to help. And especially if you are a modder and an Oblivion alum, my guess is that you would feel at home with the NMM setup.
-
This is from the Nexus Wiki. It explains the process. It is pretty simple. If you launch through NMM it will still load your workshop mods. You may find you prefer the NMM (at least I do) because you have greater control over when to update your mods and their load order. Good luck!

To be safe, you may want to back up your game and folders first, somewhere separate. Go to your steam interface, click on the "games" tab on the top menu. Find the game, right click on it, then cleft click on delete local content. Then go back into your own files and delete all Skyrim folders. (Save games are in user/documents/mygames or something similar unless you put them in a custom location. Data files are probably in Programs/Steam/Steamapps. Look for folders/files that say skyrim. If you want too remove everything, then remove the skse files. Removing the skyrim Data folder will remove installed mods, but the zip folders downloaded from NMM automatically are probably in username/games Unclick the cloud sync box. To be certain you have it all, you might want to completely shut down your computer or clear the cache. Then just go back to steam and reinstall. :-) You can verify your cache (click on the properties after the right click on the game in steam)to make sure it downloaded properly. If you are using Skse again, just double check that you have the correct version for your game. Good luck!

This quest's walkthough is available at UESP wiki. Sorry I can't think of another way to answer this without spoilers.

Skyrim Black Screen on Launch No Sound
Georgiegril replied to nonja121's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
This thread may have a few strategies you haven't tried, and Bben's blog also has some crash info that might be useful. -
@ Yafi...I am sorry you misunderstood my post as personal criticism. I was not replying to you at all but rather to the OP. Based on his statement "I installed NMM... and then the BOSS error, it seemed to me that he may have attempted to run BOSS as a mod, and had nothing at all to do with your comment or suggestion.
-
It could (but you can try, it might help.) You might want to look here at the info from GeForce on VSync. It might also be a problem with your drivers not installing properly, this might help.
-
BOSS is not a mod, it is a discrete program. The installation instructions are on their webpage.

I have occasionally noticed this to. My card is NVidia 9800GT, 512MB. I just figured it was a byproduct of a) my crappy card or b) all of the tweaks I have made to make the game run well enough for me with a crappy card. I have the latest driver update...I know I noticed the effect with the 290 drivers...I've bee noticing it for months, but now I can't recall if I've seen after the latest update. It only happens occasionally for me, I thin the light has to be just right and I have to be facing the correct direction, etc. I thought that it might be related to some of the shadow tweaks I have (like the shadowbiasscale), but I have never tested it. I did notice that the OP has Enhanced Night, which I also have...could be related or just a coincidence. I too notice the effect around dusk. No solutions, just maybe a little more info that might help someone.

I can't help but notice you have been posting a lot with a bunch of problems. You might try a clean /uninstall/reinstall from steam, (including uninstalling mods, delete local content, verify cache, and removal of old save games or other leftover files before installing again) and then play through on vanilla until you exit the cave at Helgen. It sucks to start over, but it seems like you aren't getting to play much, anyway....

Full disclosure, if there were levels to modding, I'd be on "milk-drinker." I have been thinking a bit about the increase of problems that seem to follow every new patch. Then I started to think about textures. Then I read this thread from back after in Feb, which basically says that .bsa files are attached to the file with the same name, and will follow that loading order, unless...(linked to original post) "In case of conflict, i.e. two BSAs that load the same objects, the bsa whose name is alphanumerically last will take precedence. This is true regardless of the load order of the associated ESPs". So am I understanding this right? since the update's bsa is "update.bsa", it would overwrite pretty much any other bsa file in case of a conflict? (at least those that start with a number or a-t) And if this is so, would that maybe mean that some of the issues that people are having with animations, textures, etc. post-update that appear to be related to a mod could be caused instead by that mod's .bsa being overwritten by the update? If this is a ridiculous thought, please forgive me. My Skyrim is like my Spanish--just enough to get me in trouble.

Skyrim Black Screen on Launch No Sound
Georgiegril replied to nonja121's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Are you loading from the NMM? Do you use skse? If so are you using the "launch skse" button to start? (you can find it on the pull down menu from the upper left tab on the NMM interface.) Alternately, if you are using skse, you might have a skse icon on your desktop you can launch from. Otherwise, it is possible that you do not have sufficent available memory for the game to load...have you tried clearing your cache, running basic cleanup utilities (like CC cleaner, gralry utils, etc.) and then using something like GBoost to close out background processes? (I use Firefox and that can use huge amounts of RAM, it's a known bug, so I have to make sure to close out my browser, for example) Also maybe try verifying your cache and rewriting your pref.ini and ini files to default...it could be locking up because the launcher is not seeing the files it expects.... Just a few suggestions hope something helps! -
No offense, but if your copy of steam isn't legal, NMM wont work. Assuming it is legal, how are you loading the game? Does the game start and work fine, you just cant see the mods effects or does the game not load? If you are looking for some kind of rolling script on load like you see with the steam workshop, there isn't one. Which mods? Which version of NMM? After activating the files, do you see the esp files on the plugins tab, and are they checked?
-
@ blacklamb: I have had that issue to occasionally. It usually goes away on it's own after I close/reopen NMM. I recall someone mentioning it went away for them after they used the reset UI, but I haven't tried that. In any case, it is only temporary....
-
Please take a look at Bben's blog post...check to make sure your .ini files are the same. (Though Yafi is right, if your game is not legit, none of this will help you, you need to buy the game...not to accuse you of anything, just saying)

Who makes your Nvidia? I have an EVGA card, and I use EVGA precision...it has a very easy fps control that is free. MSI's Afterburner is based on the EVGA one, but it works with MSI cards, and others. I think the Precision might work with others too, but my guess is that the specific software for your specific card will be best. I tried Afterburner but had some issues with it. In any case seems strange to have to pay for something that the card manufacturers provide for free...there is also a free fps limiter mod on the nexus (i assume yours isn't from the nexus? I believe it is against Nexus use policies to require payment for a mod) Another question, you have 301.24? If you did not update using the new procedure NVidia requires, your old versions are still on your computer and could be causing problems, including strange clocking, temps, ability to properly be controlled with driver tools, even the official NVidia one, all of which might end up with your noticing lower fps. Check out this linkto properly update your cards and remove old drivers. Also you might want to try rolling back to see if an earlier card works better, but you are no longer able to do this properly through the device manager function of windows. The link I gave you also covers proper rollback. If you lower your graphics settings, do you still experience the problem? Also, have you checked to see what your GPU running temp is during the game, but especially when the fps drops? (you can see this with either of the programs I mentioned above, or with NVidia's own monitoring tool, or with something like CPU-Z) If your card is overheating (might be due to the update issue) then it could be shutting down to the 2D clock specs, and your fps would drop. Not sure about "this NPC editor" not enough info, but if you think it might be the issue, you could try a complete uninstall and then run the steam verify cache after that. If it still is giving you trouble (assuming the mod is completely correctly removed) then the mod install might be incidental to the issue. However a lot of high texture mods could cause a slowdown. If you download a driver monitor tool, then you can see the effects of uninstalling various mods to see if they have any effect on your fps. Another thought, just to be sure...if another program on your computer has priority (for example an auto-update or virus scan) it can take up your RAM, which can also lead to slowdown, although often its more of a stutter than a steady fps drop. Still, have you tried using something like GameBooster or GBoost to turn off background processes? Or manually done this? Also your anti-virus program may have a gaming mode, which stops it from scheduled scans and updated if you are in game. EDIT: You might also want to check out this post in Bben's blog: it has more strategies to address a slow computer. Hope something here helps, let me know!
