  1. Just to be clear, those lines don't fix memory in your computer so much as how much memory is allocated for the game cache.

    Sorry that didn't help, though.

    Sometimes the problem can be a simple save corruption--have you tried opening any earlier saves? Especially a complete save in an interior location.

  2. Sorry, I wont open random attachments for security reasons.

    However, I will say that the site you mention is a frequent crash site due to:

    1. Using and ugrids higher than the default 5

    2. Failure to use TES5Edit to clean DLCs and other mods that need it

    3. memory cache issues (possibly ameliorated by)

    [General]
    ClearInvalidRegistrations=1
    [Memory]
    DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=512
    ScrapHeapSizeMB=256

    in your skyrim\data\skse\skse.ini

  3. Freezing at loading screen can be a memory-related problem.

    Are you using skse 1.7? This should automatically install the following in your data\skse folder:

    skse.ini:

    [General]
    ClearInvalidRegistrations=1
    [Memory]
    DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=512
    ScrapHeapSizeMB=256

    If it is not there, or if you are not using 1.7, you can create that yourself on a notepad file, name it skse.ini, and save it in a folder named skse inside your data folder.

    That may help if the problem is related to memory allocation.

  4. One of the best strategies I have found for my lower-end GPU is to use a texture optimizer for dds. It improves performance and barely affects quality.

    You might look into SMCO or Texture Optimizer. (they are programs, not mods, even though you will find them with the mods.) Read all instructions carefully, of course.

  5. If you did not manually install texture files, then you would see any non-esp files in your NMM, on the Mod side.

    Assuming there are none, then that is not an issue.

    You definitely need to place all of those unsorted mods properly. Leaving them at the bottom could be the cause of your problem.

    Generally, mod authors will instruct you where to place their mods, especially if they are not recognized by BOSS.

    Or, you could open them up in TES5Edit and sort according to that.

    You could be crashing due to having all of the Cloaks active--that will cause random crashes which might manifest at the DG location, but in any case you need to fix it by choosing just one, then getting the correct WICC and Patch for the one you choose.

    If you are using anything other than the default 5 ugrids to load, that might also be your problem.

    Other than that, I think you will need to revisit all of the mod pages for mods that you have downloaded, to double-check for compatibility with Dawnguard. BOSS is a good tool, but it is not perfect--and less so since the creators have been working on their next-gen sorting tool.

    Edit--also you need to follow the instructions BOSS is giving yoru for AOS and Brawlbugs

  6. Well, it's off-topc but taking car of this can save you a bunch of crashes at some point.

    I understand why you are unenthusiastic about TES5Edit cleaning.

    It is my opinion, though, that at some point NOT cleaning is just as destructive to a game....at least cleaning the DLCs could make a huge difference. But it may not solve your current problem, so I'll move on.

    Your problem was not apparent to me, so I thought I'd have a look at Schlangster's page and discussion.

    It appears that people are having some issues similar to yours, the causes may be

    1) Using Mod Organizer--there is a detailed workaround in his discussion thread, if that is your situation (i.e. you use MO instead of NMM)

    Fix posted by RBenion on the MkyUI discussion page:

    SKYUI + Mod Organizer Users with missing MCM Menus - FIX!
    I spent days trying to figure out this problem looking everywhere on the Internet. I tried every suggested fix, nothing worked. Less hair...

    Mod Organizer (MO) (version 1.2) does not install SkyUI properly. You will see the SkyUI Interface, but the MCM (Mod Configuration Menu) will only show the MCM 3.0 logo but no Mod Config Options.

    So here is what I did to fix the issue:

    REMOVE FOMOD FROM SKYUI ARCHIVE

    1. Remove SKYUI from MO.
    2. Download the SkyUI 4.1 archive (7z file) manually to your downloads folder.
    3. Using 7z, unarchive the mod to a new directory.
    4. Delete the original archive.
    5. Delete the FOMOD folder from the new directory.
    6. Re-archive the folder.

    UPDATE MO SETTINGS

    7. Open MO
    8. Open up the Settings dialog (the Wrench and Screwdriver icon on the top of the interface).
    9. Click the Reset Dialogs button.
    10. Close the Settings dialog.

    INSTALLING SKYUI AND UNPACKING BSA FILE

    11. Click the Install Mod Archive icon (top left of MO interface)
    12. Select your saved SkyUI modified archive.
    13. During the installation of the mod, you will be asked if you want to unpack the BSA file.
    14. Select YES!
    15. Re-enable SkyUI MOD in MO.
    16. Re-enable SkyUI Plugin in MO (might be done automatically in step 15.
    17. Run a BOSS Sort.

    Start Skyrim and cross fingers that you have MCM Config Menus!

    Optional - If you see mods in your MCM menu, but there are some missing, then you can run the following command from the console:

    setStage SKI_ConfigManagerInstance 1

    This would not of worked before as the Scripts were not available to the console until you installed SkyUI using the above method.

    I hope this helps out all those frustrated MO SkyUI users.

    Cheers,

    Rick

    2) The MCM taking longer than expected to add menus, for which the solution is to wait. Also, from the mod description page, there is posted a console command to repair the MCM list--"open the console and enter "setStage SKI_ConfigManagerInstance 1" (without the quotes)"

    The only other suggestion I have it that it might be possible the problem is with the alpha 1.7--I use that with SkyUI no problem, but it is an alpha, so...it might be worth trying to go back to the official release version (1.6.9whatever), if nothing else is working.

  7. Well, it is a common bug.

    Not saying you don't have a more annoying variant.

    Did you try opening the game using the default launcher first, and then starting up NMM?

  8. You don't need to have a monster computer to run Skyrim--it is limited by its 32-bit game engine. Look around in these forums and you will find plenty of people complaining that the game is lagging, or freezing, crashing at 3.1 GB memory, despite their massive rig.

    At the top of this board is a pinned thread about specs related to Skyrim which you may find useful.

    My own 2 cents-- since you have the cash, get at least an Intel Core i7 --you may not need it for Skyrim (though it helps), but down the line it will probably be the required CPU (see this article, about Bethesda's projected Specs for Wolfenstien) They come in various speeds, anything over 3.0 would be my suggestion. Also, the best GPU you can afford. Back in the day I got a 9800 GT, which was close to the top of the line. It is now old, and terribly outdated, but I can still run a pretty and smooth Skyrim (just not all the HD stuff.) GPUs are expensive, but if you can get a 780 with at least 4 GB VRAM now, it should carry you a good while. Having a good power supply and cooling system are also important. (I am referencing Geforce video cards because that is what I prefer, someone else may tell you passionately to get Radeon. It does seem to me that Skyrim likes Geforce cards a bit better, but ultimately this is a personal choice.) You definitely want to look into who manufactures your components, regardless. Some companies are known for having good customer service, others not so much. Checking out sites like Tom's Hardware or Anandtech or Techspot may help.

    Unless you are skilled in building computers (or want to jump in and learn) I would definitely recommend getting a "custom-built" computer-- you can get these from many quality manufacturers on their websites. This is a way to get the warranty and support of a retail machine but with the specific components that are right for what you will use your computer for. You will pay a bit more, but in return you will be paying for what you actually want and need.A retail computer at a big box store is created for the average user, not a gamer. I personally would not have a friend or local guy who works out of his house build a computer for me unless I was very familiar with his work and very impressed.

    Well, those are my thoughts at the moment. Congratulations on your graduation and new job!

  9. My first guess (this is also the easiest fix) would be that it is a load order or mod conflict issue. Please copy/paste the text file version of your BOSS log, enclose in spoiler tags.

    (you can get to the text file version by opening the BOSS GUI and selecting to have the log generated in text.).

    You can find the spoiler tags in the pull-down menu of the third icon to the left on the top toolbar.

    My second guess would be that you had installed another followers mod, like UFO. There is a very specific uninstall method for UFO, but even so, you may find leftover scripts from it that could prevent other follower mods from running (This is not the mod author's fault; it is a function of the game engine.) If this is the case, you could try reverting to a save from before you added the first follower mod, you could try a script cleaner (the only one I would risk trying is Hadoran's save game script cleaner, but even with that one you would need to accept the possibility that it could cause irreparable problems)

  10. Well, I also am female and prefer playing a female who is not a barbie.

    While I have never found changing animations to be worth the trouble, I have found Enhanced Character Edit to be invaluable for creating a character who is interesting, striking, but not glamazon.

    I also recommend looking at some of the non-glam face models, such as zzjay's Mature Skin New Lips and Navetsea's Body texture (the tase bain installer version) Also zzjays zero makeup version is nice. I tend to mix 'n' match.

    My current character is a archer-mage. I am using Apocalypse Spells and Smart Cast for the first time--They make magic a lot more fun.

    Cheers, hope something here is helpful!

  11. If you are using skse 1.7, that file should be created for you. It would be in your skyrim\data\skse folder.

    If it is not there, you can create one. Just put those lines on a notepad file, and save it as skse.ini, and put it inside a skse-named folder inside your data folder.

    Glad you've got it working!

  12. The Geforce Tweak guide is actually made by Koroush Ghazi from New Zealand. Who has his own site called TweakGuides.com where he has been publishing tweak guides for many years. He just did the one for for Nvidia, then was dissatisfied with the way Nvidia did things ( delaying the guide for several months before finally releasing it) and went back to being independent.

    There are a lot of before and after pics side by side to show you just what happens when you apply a particular tweak.

    On the TweakGuides site he has several guides specifically for Nvidia cards, ATI Catalyst and a Gamers graphics and display settings guide that explains a lot of the video settings - some may only be available through 3rd party programs or through things like the Geforce forceware program

    Hi, Ben. I recall you making that point before, about the Tweak guides. However, when I go to your link and then choose the Skyrim tweak guide that is listed there, it just sends me back to the Geforce site I had originally linked. I would be very happy to provide the author with his due recognition, is there something I am missing? I would be really happy to find that he has been updating his guide somewhere, as it is extremely helpful.

  13. Sorry, but the papyrus log is giving you errors that show the remnants of mods you removed.

    When you reverted to vanilla, did you use the STEP Guide to do so? If not this could be the problem.

    If you did follow the STEP guide, did you follow it exactly? If not this could be the problem.

    Also, did you try to play any old saves on a game that you reverted to vanilla? If so, this could be the problem.

    In the past, when I was still trying to play with Steam's backup funtion, I found that steam would install an old backup rather than a clean game. So I would also recommend that when doing the STEP guide revert to vanilla, you make sure that there are no old backup files for steam to latch onto.

  14. The STEP Guide is extremely detailed and everything has been tested extensively. Definitely worth looking at.

    The Geforce Tweak Guide is old, and some information is out of date, but also worth looking at.

    I would counsel against adding any changes to your .ini files without making a backup first, then adding any change one at a time, and testing thoroughly before adding the next. What seems to work well for someone else may not have the same effect on your individual computer/game environment.

  15. Ok, so what you need to do is post your entire BOSS log.

    The spoiler tab is not in BOSS, it is on this board. Look at the top toolbar, go to the third icon to the left; it looks like a little white square with a couple of blue lines. Click on that, you will get a pull-down menu. See the one that says spoiler? It will hid long areas of text to save people from having to scroll. copy/paste the entire BOSS log to your post. Highlight the whole thing, then select the spoiler tag.

    What you gave was a list of plugins that BOSS does not recognize, and those need to be placed by hand.

    What I asked for was mods or utilities BOSS does not manage at all--those would be mods that don't have .esp suffixes--usually texture only mods, some effect/lighting mods or utilities like texture optimizers, etc.

    Being as you are new to all of this, I suspect that you need to do some basic things, like cleaning the DLCs and other mods that BOSS has flagged with TES5Edit, properly placing the mods that BOSS did not recognize, etc.

    I suggest before you bother to post what I am asking for, that you watch and follow the instructions in Gophers Beginning mod series. Doing as he instructs may solve your problem. If not, go ahead and provide the info I requested and I will try to help.

  16. It could be artifacting from your GPU, but it is really impossible to say from your description. A video clip, or even a screenshot, might help.

    Posting your BOSS log, computer information (like CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM and graphics driver version) game graphics settings and any graphical enhancers you are using (like enbs, gpu profile changes, etc.) may also help.

  17. Copy/paste the text file of your BOSS log, enclose in spoiler tags.

    List any mods or utilites that your are using that BOSS does not manage, and any mods you have removed.

    Also, if you have made any changes to your skyrim.ini or skyrimprefs.ini, post those as well.

  18. Sorry I wasn't clear. I will not download random files, due to security risks. Nothing personal, there has been a huge amount of security issues allover the web, as I imagine you know.

    So in order for me to look at your BOSS log, I need you to copy/paste it to the log and enclose in spoiler tags. Or if you'd rather not, maybe someone else will be willing to open that file for you.
