A little explanation on how I added an exception to AVG to allow NMM to connect through it.
Open AVG, then click Firewall.
Then select "Tools/Firewall Settings".
On the right side of your screen, click "Add"
On the line that says "Path", click on the button with the "..." on it, this is the browse button.
A window will open, simply point it to the executable for Nexus Mod Manager.
Mine is "C:\Program Files\Nexus Mod Manager\NexusClient.exe" Yours will be wherever you installed it to.
Hope this helps!!!

As explained by Dark0ne, this is indeed a Firewall issue.
I had allowed NMM in my Wndows Firewall but had forgotten to allow it in AVG 2011.
I made an allowance in AVG 2011, applied it and BAM!
NMM instantly connected and now works correctly.
Moral of the story?
Check your Firewall Settings.
Thank you for your excellent software!!!!!!

NMM now connects correctly and just updated all my mods and BOSS masterlist.
WooHoo!
I'm a happy camper!!!!!

You were correct!
After much wailing, gnashing of teeth, and general bemoaning of fate, I finally figured out that I allowed NMM in Windows Firewall, but not in AVG 2012.
I feel like a complete and utter noob.
And I've been building computers as a hobby for about 20 years now.
Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa!!!!!

When attempting to connect to the Nexus Server with Mod Manager I receive the following Error Message:
"Cannot connect to the Nexus Server. Unable to connect to the remote server."
I use the basic Windows Firewall And I made an allowance for NMM in that.
I do not use a proxy.
I have a router.
I have 6 MB DSL from Windstream.
Please help me out on this. I just found your site and it's excellent mods, and installed your NMM software.
I bought a premium account right off the bat.
unfortunately, I have never been able to log into NMM.
Can someone help with this

Do you use a firewall? Are you behind a proxy? Do you use non standard internet like satellite or 3G?
Attached is a copy of the Trace File.

I just downloaded the mod manager and I went to try and start it up and it keeps giving me the error that it cannot login to the nexus servers even when I am online and even currently on the site. How do I fix this issue?
Cannot connect to the Nexus server: Unable to connect to the remote server
^That is the error, copied straight from the login.
I am receiving the exact same error message.
It's extremely frustrating.
Can we get some help with this?
