  1. They probably will, but I doubt they'd continue the MW campaign. Probably move to another one first.

But first, it's Treyarch's turn again. I'm expecting the announcement for the new CoD any day now.

  2. @Haloloror

I'm not against protecting property, I just get a bit worried at what this can lead. Because I fear Piracy is not the real target there.

But that was not my point. SOPA has nothing to do with DRM. The majority of publishers employ some form of DRM. The majority of publishers also took up a stance against SOPA. See where I'm going here?

Addendum: a bit of research is enough to show the corporations are not acting singly but under a broad orchestration with participation on several levels and overall integration. One the strongest groups being the TCG.

I'm sorry dude, but the level of ridiculousness in your posts really just doubles with every post you make. Now you're claiming all the major players in the gaming industry are working together to bring about a state where nobody has control over their PCs?

I'm sorry, but you really need to stop. Either start posting something that is backed by cold, hard evidence and solid logic, or stop posting in these kind of threads at all. I don't come to these forums to listen to children spout wild claims and wives tales as if they're fact, and then try to pass them off as if they're the most logical conclusions ever. Ever since I first took note of your posts, you've done nothing but think up conspiracy theories with absolutely no evidence to back them up.

  3. For now there are legal barriers for what can be censored and remotely controlled in your (the user) side. But like you must be aware, those legal barriers have been strongly tested too, just look up to the SOAP... sorry, I mean SOPA and PIPA threads and answer yourself what could be when these advances in "protection" of corporation's properties will not become controlling "what you can have in your machine".

You do realize that the majority of these publishers who use DRM actually stood up AGAINST Sopa, right? Very few of them actually advocated it.

  4. Makes little difference to me, I stopped buying Ubisoft games when they first insisted you needed to be constantly connected to play.

Ironically, it seems so did everyone else. Ever since uPlay came into being, Ubisoft's PC game sales have dropped an astonishing 90%.

Worst part? They're blaming it on piracy.

If you ask me, Ubisoft is looking for a cheap excuse to stop developing for the PC entirely.

  5. Meh, if anyone does buy them out, I'm betting it will be EA. They're known for gobbling up every studio they come across, and they're one of the few publishers with the type of cash to actually take a risk like this.

If they do, STALKER 2 will probably become a linear corridor shooter with it's entire focus on action and none of the atmosphere or survival horror parts of old. And it will probably only be 4 hours long.

  6. I would. Some times you just need to suck it up and do it any way.

I hate steam, i use it any way. No need to hate just because you dont like a certain group.

As for the whole 'EA IS SPYING ON US! OMG CONSPIRACY!' who the hell cares. Ive blocked Origin's outgoing connections and it hasnt affected me in any way.

Huh? I think you meant to post this in the "Mass Effect uses Origin" thread. :P

  7.

It only means that there is still hope for the project, but not that it is entirely in the clear. Seeing as STALKER is a high risk IP (the previous games were good, but sales weren't exactly stellar), it's entirely possible that no publisher is willing to take the risk and the project gets shelved for good.

Or EA can buy the IP, in which case I'll probably commit suicide.

  8. Heh, even as more of an action game it has its horror moments, but yeah, don't go in expecting a horror game. Although I have to admit, the hotel creeped me right the hell out. :O

But all in all, the combat system is why you should try it. I haven't seen another game manage melee combat quite so well yet. In my humble opinion, it's even better than the melee combat in Dark Messiah.

  9.

instead of just taking a sentence i wrote and picking at that, try reading the whole thing, everything that came after that sentence, then maybe youll understand. if you dont, then im sorry, i can do nothing to clarify it.

You know, you pretty much just threw your argument out the window, considering that you still haven't given me any solid reasons as to why they're the same type of game.

they are both shooters. both aimed at the same audience. both on all 3 consoles. both modern warfare shooters. both coming out at the same time. both created to compete with the other (and if they werent meant to be compared, that last statement wouldnt be true). both focus on online multiplater competitive game play.

Wait, so they're the same type of game because

    -Both are shooters

    -both are multiplatform

-both take place in the modern warfare scene

-they released close to each other

-They were in direct competition (something which EA did to try and cause a stir and get more people to buy their own game)

-both have a cooperative multiplayer game mode

    Yeeeeah, uhm no.

    CoD:

    -Fast-paced, twitch shooter

    -Arcadish gunplay

-Rewards players who rack up the highest killcount

    -Focuses exclusively on gunplay

-All playable classes focus on gunplay. There are no support classes whatsoever.

-Teamwork is possible, but is entirely unnecessary to win the game, and it's odd to actually see a team working together in-game.

-Combat is entirely foot-combat. No vehicles as it would slow the pace of the game.

    -Guns do not behave realistically

    -Static terrain

-Small maps to promote faster gameplay

-The team with the itchiest trigger-fingers win

-Matches last between 5 and 15 minutes

-Multiplayer matches consist of between 8 - 32 players

Okay, so let's move on over to BF3:

    -Slow-paced, team focused strategic shooter

-Realistic gunplay, bullet drop is an example of this

-Rewards players who help team members

-Focuses on teamwork and strategic approaches to battles

-Has support classes with a strong focus on helping teammates out, like the medic who can revive fallen teammates

-Teamwork is almost always essential to winning a game. Teams that do not work together usually lose.

-Gameplay spans foot, ground vehicle, aerial and boat combat. Very strong emphasis on various types of vehicular combat

-Destructible terrain that ensures the battlefield changes over the course of a match

    -Maps are huge

-The average match should last more or less 30 minutes to an hour, but can be slightly longer or shorter depending on the teams' skill levels.

Multiplayer matches support up to 64 players

Yes. I can definitely see that they're the same type of game.

  10. Sigh. No more Dawn of War.

How can a company that makes Saints Row go out of business? Must be very poorly run.

Well, Relic is one of the development houses waiting to be bought up. All we can hope for is that they get a decent publisher to buy them.

I wonder what this does to other games slated for release this year, like Darksiders 2 and the new Metro. Considering THQ is basically bankrupt, they probably can't support any further development, so would that mean the projects are put on hold until someone buys them out and can give funding again?

I thought THQ were half decent. those UFC/WWE games and what not I always thought were relative cash cows, like Fifa or NFL games, where they can make one every year or 2 and the fanbase laps it up.

And they have a bunch of other popular franchises and titles going. I have no idea what the hell is going on there. Have they sunk a ton of money into some flops lately or what?

Personally I'm attributing it to poor sales in general and not enough focus on mainstream games. Their Dawn of War series, as an example, was rather good but catered to a very niche market. I remember them saying a few months back that Space Marine didn't sell near as well as they thought it would.

And then there was Saints Row The Third, which I found to be one of my favorite games of 2011, but it also didn't sell nearly as well as people thought. I think mostly due to the fact that a lot of people were put off by what they did with the DLC, like I originally was.

Overall, I think the revenue made from their cash cows like UFC and WWE couldn't cover support their other games. Having your stocks drop from $6 to $0.65 usually indicates that something is very wrong.

  11. if they werent aimed at the same target audience, ppl wouldnt be comparing them.

    Lolwut?

So the world is also going to end in 2012 because people wouldn't be saying it would if it wouldn't?

    Same silly reasoning.

but youre wrong. they are very similar games

But okay, humor me. What makes them so similar? You can point and shoot in both? You can say that of pretty much every shooter out there, so tell me, aside from that, what makes them so similar?

  12. Rumor spreading fast via Twitter on Sunday holds that THQ has canceled its entire 2014 slate of releases to position the company for sale.

Kevin Dent, a games industry veteran, tweeted late yesterday that THQ had canceled an MMO it was developing under license from The Games Workshop, meaning Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium Online (pictured above). Dent went on to say that the publisher had also canceled all projects due for release in 2014 and was in the process of returning intellectual property to their licensors.

The purpose, Dent alleges, is to ready THQ for sale. "I am hearing everything (in 2014 is canceled), they need to preserve cash," he said. Dent noted THQ's stock price is around 66 cents; it was about $6 this time last year.

Games THQ publishes under license include the Warhammer 40,000 series as well as the WWE and UFC lines, both of which are under exclusive license. Other games THQ publishes include the Red Faction and Saints Row series. In October 2010, it opened a studio in Montréal, luring away Patrice Désilets from Ubisoft, where he had been creative director of Assassin's Creed.

Kotaku has contacted THQ representatives for comment. Any they make will be updated here.

This is really big. Basically THQ doesn't exist any longer, they're just waiting to be bought out.

I really just hope EA doesn't buy them out. If that happens, I might stop gaming altogether.

  13. Well, I can't say I had any issues with the neighbors while living in my parents' house, but I've had some dodgy neighbors while living in my student flat over the last two years. Seeing as I live in a town which is mostly inhabited by students, people generally come and go on a yearly basis, so there's a few new people around every year.

The first year I lived there, a Zimbabwean man lived next to me, and would spend lots of time at my flat. When I brought anyone over (especially girls), he'd come over. What's worse, when I brought a girl over he'd lay moves on her, while I'm sitting right there. :O I eventually got fed up with this about halfway through the year and told him that if he keeps doing this I'll start calling the cops and report him for trespassing. He spent the rest of the year giving me death stares every time he saw me.

Then last year the Zimbabwean moved out, and in moves two young guys who have a morbid love of rap. And not even good rap (as if there is such a thing), but the real garbage like Soulja Boy. They'd play it all day long, every day and until late into the nights. Numerous complaints later, both to them and the body corporate and even the police (who never came out), they still wouldn't stop, so I started waiting until I was certain they were asleep, then I'd start blasting the most offensive, noisy death metal I could find.

That is, until the upstairs neighbor started complaining about me putting up a racket, but you have to understand that at this point I was tired. I was already spending most of my nights sleeping in the living room (my room was right next to theirs, so their music was loudest there) and I was willing to to do just about anything to get them to stop, so I wrote a nice, sarcastic letter asking them to stop playing their music so loud and so late into the nights. Then I pinned it to their door using an old pocket knife.

Aside from two minor incidents, never really had issues with them after that. :P

  14.

and my previous post works for this too: "So? who cares if he doesn't hate it. He is entitled to his opinion on what he hates or likes. Let me know when the statement MGS is a better game than big rigs is not true..."

I dunno, does it even matter? How does Big Rigs and MGS cater to the same audience? Still doesn't make the statement that MGS is a better game than Big Rigs not true.

    Sigh. I've pretty much answered this question in the following post;

But that's because there are fundamental issues with Big Rigs that lead to it generally being considered a rubbish game. There are no fundamental issues with CoD, only issues with people's opinions on it. It's nearly impossible to like Big Rigs due to a myriad of technical and other issues. It is still entirely possible for someone to like CoD, and there are a lot of people who do.

If person 1 plays Big Rigs, without having played any other games before, he likely won't enjoy it because the game is broken, buggy and fundamentally flawed.

If that same person were to play MW3 without having played any games previously, chances are he'll probably enjoy it because there is nothing fundamentally flawed with the game, only people's perceptions on it. The game isn't broken and is entirely playable and enjoyable

Therefore, the BF3 cannot be considered a better game, because by what criteria would it be measured? MW3 isn't buggy or broken (BF3 released with more bugs), the general opinion isn't that it's rubbish (it way outsold BF3). So I ask again, by what criteria are you stating that BF3 is the better game?

The only people who believe that BF3 is the better game are BF3 fanboys.

It seems to have gone way over your head. If you don't understand the point I was making, I don't think you ever will, because I'm not really sure how to state it any simpler.

  15. It's a lot more fun if you find some friends to play it with.

I agree with this, but on the other hand it's a lot more challenging, scary and suspenseful if you play alone. :P

The moment I had a friend with me, the scare factor disappeared entirely. Not even the sewers were scary with a friend, despite people calling it the scariest part of the game.

  16. I actually made a mistake in my previous post, I meant to say

If person 1 plays Big Rigs, without having played any other games before, he likely won't enjoy it because the game is broken, buggy and fundamentally flawed.

My post should have pretty much answered your question.

    Also,

    CoD - Arcadish twitch shooter

    BF3 - Team-oriented military simulator

How does that cater to the same audience?

  17. But that's because there are fundamental issues with Big Rigs that lead to it generally being considered a rubbish game.
