  1. Hah! it works dammit how did i miss this, I remember this from training escaping alabastra using a staff lol wen't back to that dungeon in webwood to try this out and it actually works with my flaming chakram. now to figure out how to finish another mystery quest "secret of the fae pool" thanks...

You can't technically finish that quest, because it's a task. It's just there to spawn you a boggart companion which will follow you around and fight for you. If he dies you can just go back and do it again to get another.

  2. EVE seems interesting, but far too complex for my liking haha. My boyfriend started a trial again, he played it a few years ago. They've changed a lot and it looks quite nice, but it's still not worth shoveling out 14.95/month. He'll play it for the 2 weeks then probably go back to playing Diablo II or Terraria lol.

You could give Evochron Mercenary a try, it's like a free EVE. Has all the mining, exploring, trading, etc. but it seemed less complicated. There's a demo on their website :)

Also give Battlestar Galatica Online a try if you want. Free to play and lots of very friendly people to help you out. It actually looks pretty fracking (lol) good for a browser based game. You sort of have to know the remade series to understand some points of the game, but it's pretty fun. There isn't any trading so far from what I've seen, but you can mine asteroids and the combat is pretty decent. I like it, but I like the TV series a lot too.

I bought Evochron a while back when it was on sale on Steam, but I haven't played it yet. Not for lack of interest, but more due to lack of time. Looks pretty good, though. Especially like the idea of procedurally generated galaxies.

  3. But for me, there are two problems. Firstly, there is little to no skill element involved. Sure, a little savvy can go a long way, but once you're locked in combat you can do nothing except watch the maths do its work.

Yeah, most of the skill requirements for the game goes into knowing how to fit your ship, which is something I'm too lazy to sit and work out. :P

Secondly, I never managed to find a corp that was relaxed enough. I work long hours and have lots to do in my spare time, so when I do play a game I want to have fun. EVE can only be fun if its players recognise that it's just a game, and I could never find anybody who did.

I know exactly what you mean. I recently joined another industry focused corp, and then we got wardec'ed, so I got told I'm not allowed to leave the station (just like my old corp did) until the wardec was over. I said screw that and left. Not wanting to pay the overly high taxes of NPC corps, I then simply made my own corp. It's casual, but industry focused (mining, manufacturing, trade), but accepts any profession, with a very low tax rate. Haven't recruited anyone yet, but oh well, as long as I'm not paying high taxes. It has an awesome name, though. Zewp Industries. :D

Will probably start recruiting when I resub, which should be next month seeing as my subscription money went to a Collector's Edition of ME3.

Oh, and grinding. I cannot and will not grind in any game, ever. I'm glad it's there as an option for people who are into that, but I just can't do it without wanting to shoot myself.

I love doing monotonous tasks. I can spend hours mining, leaving my ship to mine away at the asteroids while I read a book or something.

  4. Meh, lots of people are saying that the reason the game is doing so well is because it borrows the best parts from a vast myriad of other games. I don't mind that at all.

Also, I think it's unfair to say it's a blatant rip-off of WoW. Aside from the art-style and area transitioning, it's nothing like WoW.

  5. i get thought the game easy pressing XXXXX. blocking is rarely needed im lvl 24 and overpowered. about 45% crit, 50% chance to bleed, 70% chance to poison plus the talents that will do more damage when the target is bleeding or poisoned. a power shot from my bow does 2000 damage. i dont know whats level cap but im sure be able to get 100% crit by level cap. maybe rogue tree is just overpowered.

I've heard one of the criticisms for the game being that it's easy to get overpowered and end up staying overpowered unless you move on to a new place with drastically tougher enemies. Might be that.

I'm a pure mage, and having a rather tough time of it. I'm not even the normal glass cannon type of mage, I just plain and simply do normal damage and die easily. :P Using staffs and chakrams, but I'm considering replacing the chakrams with daggers or faeblades.

  6. Love this game. Combat is really awesome. Characters are a bit vacant with long-winded stories about nothing in particular, but the side quests are fun.

Also, this game is not press x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x. Playing on medium, and pressing just a single attack button when fighting a group of enemies is the surest way for me to die. You have to know when to use power attacks, when to dodge and when to simply block an attack.

  7. I totally agree, I seriously dont see anything thats sexual in my screenies, is it the skin from the legs or what? the way she has her hands positioned? what! If this bothers you, please stay away from the beach or waterparks.

It's all about context. Nobody has an issue with showing some skin on the beach, but you don't run around in a mall or the countryside in a bikini.

  8. My issue is more that the way women are being depicted in many games does in some form perpetuate the sexist stereotype that women need to look pretty for men. Objectifying women is a big issue, and we can't complain about it being done in ads like this one;

but then simply ignore it when it's basically the same thing in games.

This video from The Escapist illustrates the issue rather nicely.

  9. It's a pity, because the actual game looks rather pretty. I'm just not buying into something that looks like it's a step away from being a soft porno. Sex does sell, but in an MMO does it have any staying power? I certainly don't think so. Sexual/sensual content can only carry a game so far.
  10. I have to admit, I don't care about the game much either. Played it for about 4 hours at a friend on his PC, but it just never had any staying power. I almost bought this for myself at Christmas, but decided to rather go for Saints Row The Third, and by the nine divines, I made the right choice. Story is absolutely boring and couldn't get me to care about the characters or their problems at all. Gunplay is utterly boring. It feels like I might as well be flapping toilet paper at my enemies for all the good it does me.

Then again, iD games are usually nothing more than tech demos for their new engine.

  11. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you

    Let's Draw February 2012

    For those of you new to the competition, here's a rundown of the rules;

1- Contestants compete by submitting pictures related to the monthly theme

2- Each contestant may only submit one piece of art. If a better piece is to be presented, the artist is allowed to replace his previous submission

3- Art must be strictly SFW and should not contain content that can be considered offensive to any groups and/or individuals

4- Pictures can be drawn by hand, in MS paint, with mustard or just anything you feel like

5- Each piece of art must be the artist's own handiwork. Copy pasta will not be counted in the poll.

6- Anyone may enter, regardless of skill.

7- At the end of the set period submissions will close and a poll will go up so that artists and audience alike can vote for the contestant they feel most deserves to win.

8- The winner receives a special prize and his name up in lights!

So there you have it! It simply couldn't be any easier!

The prize for this month's competition is the Humble Indie Bundle 4! It contains not one, not two, not three or four, but FIVE amazing games, and they could all be yours!

So, are you ready to hear what this month's theme is? Weeeeell...

The cold war. Nazis. Dinosaurs. What more could you want? This competition honors the game we've all been secretly wanting for years, but never got around to developing. Competitors, let your imaginations run wild!

To start it off, I'll post a pic I drew earlier as an example of a valid entry.

Aaaaaand off we go! Have fun and good luck!

Blurb: The Humble Bundle is an extra I have left. A friend sent me a gift-code, but by then I had already bought the bundle myself. The code has not yet been redeemed.

Entries close next week this time, and the poll will run over the weekend.

  12. Yeah, you could use it strategically if the players are pretty good, but more often than not, they aren't. It's like everybody in Battlefield wanting to play as a sniper but not realizing that it's actually a rather tough job. :P

The biggest problem with so many snipers is that on the maps where objectives are situated in smaller areas with more corridors, they're basically spy bait, especially because of the fact that everyone is scoping and nobody is paying attention to what's going on around them.

I haven't played in a few months, though, so it might be that all the new players who started playing when the game went F2P have learned how to play properly or have moved on to other games already. I should give it a go again.

  13. And when you point out that maybe we're losing because we have 8 snipers on our time people often get angry. That drives me nuts, because there is absolutely nothing you can do unless they switch classes.
  14. Eh, I've always gotten an answer from Steam support. Usually a few days later, by which time I've probably solved the issue myself, but they've never ignored my issue. I also find Steam support actually understands what I write.

I hate when you write an elaborate support ticket giving all the details in order to help the consultant find a solution without having to ask 100s of questions first, and then they ask you those questions anyway. Having the exact issue with Gamersgate right now. Bought a game from them last week and upon download it gives me a 416 error, which indicates an issue with their server. I cannot for the life of me get them to understand that the issue is not on my PC, even after trying all their suggestions. I'm tempted to simply lodge a dispute with Paypal and go buy the game off the official site.

  15. As said, steam offline mode only works when you set if offline when online, not when you are already offline, It is a stupid system none favours and at moment is still acts buggy even if you follow their procedure.

Not for everyone. The issue only affects certain Steam users, it seems. My offline mode works flawlessly, as does it on my parents', brother's and a few friends' PCs.

Either way, OP, lots of people have this issue and Valve still hasn't done anything to fix it. When you regain internet connectivity for Steam, lodge a complaint with support. The more people who do this, the more Valve will be pressured to start looking for a solution.

  16. The Steam client uses Internet Explorer and its settings to browse. I used to get the 101 error and couldn't see anything from my PC except my library. Then someone told me to check whether the settings in IE is set correctly, and after fixing it, my Steam worked again. Can't remember what I did to fix it, though.
  17. Back to the original topic, though. It's something I feel rather strong about, but I've got quite a few concerns regarding the way moderating is handled on the Nexus forums. I've thought about voicing my concerns numerous times over the past few months, but due to the site's zero tolerance policy of questioning moderators' actions, I've refrained from risking my account in such a manner, even though I'm probably risking it with this post. I can also honestly say, giving the site's track record, I don't see it helping anything or encouraging change anywhere.

I've spoken to quite a few people (who I'm not going to name, to protect their privacy) on other forums, and quite a number of them share some, if not all, of my concerns. And most of them are people who still frequent these forums, so it's not people who got banned here and have vendettas. On one of the forums the thread I made actually got deleted after a bit of discussion, because members were scared what the repercussions for their accounts here might be if someone from these forums were to come across it.

Back when I started here in 2007, I loved this place. I considered it my 'primary' forum. I can't even count the number of times I almost got thrown from the IT class in tenth and eleventh grade for checking up on these forums when I should have been working on my abysmal programming. :P

That's why I hope the moderating team takes this post for what it is. Honest concerns from a member of five years. I don't have any reason to bear a grudge against the forum or its moderating team. If anything, I suspect I'm one of the members who has been giving quite a bit of leeway and second chances when it could have been just as easy to justify a strike or a ban for some of my actions. It wouldn't do me any good to raise concerns if they didn't genuinely feel strongly about them.
