  1. I'm not really sure. I've never actually played BF2, aside from a few rounds against the AI in the demo.

From what I've heard, though, it was pretty much the same as you described. One of my friends played it for a while, and he said the community was almost as elitist as the Counter-Strike community.

  2. Ah, I see. I thought there was some reason why I cancelled with Amazon and ordered from GOG. That must have been it.

Yeah, I should have gone GOG as well, instead of retail. On release day there were some issues with the DRM's authentication servers, and I couldn't start playing until they fixed it. Was really frustrating.

  3. To be honest, I find the BF3 community to be a definite step down from the BC2 community, even though it's pretty much the same people who just moved over. Noobtubers, spawnraping snipers and RPGs have pretty much been the order of the day most of the days I've been playing, and it's frustrating as hell. On top of that, not a game goes by where at least two players aren't fighting over something petty. The BF and CoD community can get equally bad. As Hoofhearted says, it just depends on the group you happen to play with.
  4. Halororor, HellsMaster, think there were a few crossed wires, I took what Halororor was saying to mean that it was ironic and a probably bit of a shame that people still pirate the game.

Yep, exactly what I meant. CDProjekt is one of the best developers out there, and they actually care for their customers, but people still steal from them. It really is a shame.

As for DRM, the retail version had Securom, I believe. CDPrjekt wanted to go without DRM entirely, but their retail publishers refused. Only the GoG version released without DRM.

  5. If you're not expressly asking her to do it, why is she doing it for you? That's the way I see it. If she didn't have a sexual attraction to other females, she wouldn't be doing something for 'your' enjoyment unless you asked, right? As far as I can tell, she's just using it as a very convenient excuse.

If it's really starting to affect your relationship (like I very well imagine it would), it might be time to sit her down and have a serious discussion with her about it, and failing that, go for marriage counselling. It's not just an issue of her kissing other women, it's an issue of her kissing people she isn't married to, period. Your partner is married to you and should not do something, even if it's just a light kiss, if it makes you uncomfortable.

  6. Not sure if trolling or stupid.

I never said it helped lower piracy. They help make there legit customer enjoy the game without the hassle of bulls*** software (skyrim *wink wink*)

You know, I only meant that as despite them being one of the most customer-centric developers out there, people still pirate their games like crazy. Why are you pissing your pants over that?

  7. No Steam bullcrap, DRM shnizle. Free DLC's, right to use models for mods... I mean.. do you see anyone else do this?

And yet, the game still has a piracy rate of 5 pirates for every 1 legitimate buyer.

I don't care what you people think of me but adding content that was suppose to be in the base game in the first place feels really cheap.

Not sure if trolling or just stupid.

  8. its not a military sim. plain and simple. idc how good the physics is, idc how good the graphics are. its not realistic. period. its not a sim. period....both are games, and as such neither are "close to realism". neither can teach you how to fire a weapon or how to handle it. how to reload it. how to react in situations. you dont simply turn on someone and lay down a health/ammo pack. you dont have a mini map. you cant spot ppl and have a little orange arrow over them...i know im being picky and whatnot in my examples, but its only to prove that its a game. do not compare it to real life.

Miss the point much? Of course a game will never come close to real life. You must be rather daft to think that was what I was implying. Weapons etc behaves realistically. I never said the game is Real LifeTM. Maybe learn2context?

Either way, I edited my previous post last night already, but seemingly not in time. Have a look at it again.

Edit: And yes, CoD is aimed at a more casual audience, and the BF series is aimed at a more serious gaming audience. That does not mean casual gamers can't enjoy it, just that the game isn't by its very nature a casual game. There is something called a middle ground.

Either way. Previous post. Not going to convince each other. Etc etc.

  9. edit: Or rather Let me just drop the entire argument. We've quite clearly reached an impasse. Let's just agree to disagree, because otherwise we're just going to keep debating without convincing each other of anything. It would be futile to continue a debate when it is clear that a resolution is nowhere in sight.
  10. The games can be compared, are in the same genre and are direct market competitors. I know why I have and what it is I have stated. And it doesn't even matter if I am right.

They can be compared yes. Anything can be compared to anything.

They are in the same genre, different subgenres.

They do not need to be direct competitors, because they set out to do entirely different things. They are competitors only because EA wanted a part of of Activision's pie, and decided the best way of marketing it is to create unnecessary competition between their most prominent titles.

Was Morrowind in direct competition with Dungeon Siege 1? No. They were two games from different subgenres of the overall RPG genre. Cater to different needs and all that.

  11. So your argument is that I'm an idiot and child... Well I guess you win then.

No, I don't win. For me to 'win', you'd have to have a valid argument. Which you don't, considering you don't even understand why or what you're arguing about.

and again. no one is saying they are exactly the same. of course the gameplay is different. that just silly to bring that up. thats not an argument...BF3 is about as different from MW3 as it is from BC2...and yet you can compare BC2 ad BF3 no problem.

BC2 is a Battlefield game, so it would make sense that it and BF3 would be pretty similar. :|

Either way, have you not actively been listening to what I've been saying in my last few posts? Yes, you CAN compare them. Would you like me to run around naked screaming "YOU WERE RIGHT YOU CAN COMPARE THEM"? My point, which I should have phrased better right from the start, is that they cannot be accurately weighed by the same criteria, seeing as they both set out to do two entirely different shooters. They're both shooters but their similarities end there. Their gameplay (eg, their defining characteristics) differs wildly. One is an arcade shooter, the other a military sim. They're similar enough that they can be classed under the same genre, and different enough that they can be classed under separate subgenres.

  12. If all you can do is point out stuff that has nothing to do with the genre and are only individual gameplay differences..I rest my case.

Except, that's not what I'm doing. You're just selectively ignoring my other points and quoting single sentences to 'disprove' my entire argument, so you don't really have a case. I'm not sure if you're daft or just stubborn, but the key difference here is gameplay differences. You play a game, therefore the gameplay differs between games and is what sets them apart. Bullet drop is one gameplay difference out of dozens between CoD and BF3. What do you want? For me to tell you that they're different because their box art differs?

No offense, but come back in a few years when you understand the topic you're arguing about and can actually do so with a scrap of intelligence behind your posts. Right now all you're doing is spewing idiocy that doesn't even make sense.

As for the original question, after this weekend, I'm going to have go with BF3. I'll still end up playing MW3 more because I find it more casual and relaxing, but BF3 is still the more fun one to play for me.

  13. The games are comparable, are direct competitors and making a load of sub genre categorisations is just a futile attempt at making them appear so different that are not in the same genre, cannot be compared and are not direct market competitors.

So by your logic subgenres should be ignored entirely and there are no differences between them. They're so similar that it doesn't even matter?

They're two different subgenres of a single genre. They play absolutely nothing alike. I don't get what's so hard to understand about it. You can probably compare them, yes, but the only effective thing that's going to come out of comparing them is showing how much different they are. I mean, CoD doesn't even have bullet drop. It's so fundamental to BF that BF fans take it for granted.

The only reason why they're in direct competition is because EA would prefer to have the monopoly on the shooter market. They don't care for their fans. Not one bit. They only put up a facade of 'caring' to win fans over. Hell, they didn't even dare tell their fans they switch their lead platform to consoles halfway through because they knew they'd lose a lot of fans.

The games are nothing alike. They don't need to be in direct competition. The only reason they're in competition is because EA wants Activision's market share and decided the best way to go about it is to make a big stink.

Hell, if anyone tried to topple EA's hold on the racing market (where they ironically churn out crap NFS titles year after year, the exact same as Activision is doing with CoD), EA would be in pretty much the same boat as Activision was last year.

  14. Oh please. We've been like this all along in the thread, and we're still best of buddies. *hugs other forumites posting in this thread*

However, if you feel that strongly about it, then report it to a moderator. Essentially you're now attempting to do the moderators' jobs by telling us what we should or shouldn't do. Around these parts, that's called Forum Vigilantism. Last I saw, it's not condoned.

  15. this debate isnt getting anywhere. your too set in the fact you think these games are worlds apart...they arent. its as simple as that.

Says the one who hasn't even bought either yet. Yep.

Okay. HEY GAIS THEY'RE BOTH SHOOTERS SO THEY'RE THE SAME OKY?

Sure. Let's be technical about it. They can be compared, yes, but they cannot be assessed by the same criteria, because their similarities are too minimal. You cannot say one is better than the other as if it is fact, because they both set out to do entirely different things, and they do them right, and people like them for it. You can say it is better based on your opinion and personal preference, but that doesn't actually make it better. Only more in line with your own taste.

if the games werent so similar, people wouldnt debate between the two. people wouldnt compare them. this argument wouldnt even be here....i dont see a thread comparing Brink to StarCraft.

Just one last jab, but no. Take your logical fallacies with you when you leave the thread, please.

  16. I wrote a long-winded reply a a while back, but it got lost as the server went down while I was typed it, and then didn't save when I clicked the post button. But here goes. This is my last post on this thread, having just come back from a hectic game of BF3.

These are the same "type" of game. They both online mulitplayer first person shooters. They are targeted at the EXACT same demographic. DICE even said that their goal is to unseat COD as the reigning champion. Because, on a large scale, their gameplay is slightly different makes it a stretch to claim that they are different genre's which is what you are trying to do.

Slightly different? Seriously? They are worlds apart in gameplay. Have you even played either of the two? Aside from being able to shoot people, they are nothing alike.

When in reality these two games are as different as skyrim and dragon age.

    Which is entirely different...

Skyrim and Dragon Age are from two different subgenres in the overall RPG genre. Skyrim is an Action RPG, and DA is a CRPG. Once again, nothing alike.

Both games use players shooting at each other to complete an objective or kill the remaining enemy team, therefore they are the same type of game and can be compared on merit. Instead of pointing out that these two games are a different genre, you have successfully pointed out the merits of what make the two games unique within the same genre. But trying to claim that, for example, one has vehicles and one doesnt seperates them by classification, is a stretch.

Vehicles isn't the only thing that separates them by classification. Once again, read my bulleted list you so kindly laugh at. Or play the games and see for yourself.

It's like comparing motorbikes and cars. Both are meant to get you to your destination, but they're still entirely different in concept and classification.

  17. ooo ok. i do think that...kinda. a lot of immature kiddies do play CoD. its undeniable. but then again, they also play BF3 and BC2 and all those other games. they just seem to be more prevalent in CoD then any other game, whether thats true or not.....i dont however think that a "Real Gamer" wouldnt play it. my best friend plays them and hes as much of a gamer as i am.....for me personally, i couldnt see myself playing the game. campaign or online....the only thing that would interest me is the coop play, so i could play with said friend. that i could see myself having a blast with.

Indeed. It's not an inherently bad game. A lot of people are just tired of it. The important thing is also that the fanbase of CoD is about double the size, at the least, of other games like BF3. It's only natural that with more people, the chances for more ignorant, immature trolls playing the game are going to increase.

Either way. Still haven't bought MW3, and I don't intend to until it goes on 50% off, at least. Picked up BF3 today, though. One of the local gaming stores had a limited sale and they were going for the equivalent of $25 a piece. Managed to snatch one just before they ran out. Fastest 30 kilometres I've ever driven. :P

  18. And why is this under "PC gaming?" COD focusses around the Console more than the PC, as do all FPS.

It has a simultaneous PC release, so there is no reason why this doesn't belong here.

    how am i an elitist?

I never said you were. I was referring to those people who are of the opinion that only idiots play CoD and that RealGamerTM wouldn't play it. That's a pretty elitist point of view, considering that it consists only of "why do people enjoy something I don't". Unless you subscribe to that point of view, it wasn't aimed at you.

  19. idk, but CoD will still have games coming out for awhile, cause for some reason, ppl keep buying them.

Because they're still pretty good. Not everyone needs elitists to prescribe what they can or cannot enjoy.
